Stopping Zoonotic Diseases: The Vegan Lifestyle Matters, Part 1 of 2

This two-part series focuses on certain epidemics and pandemics from the past two decades that have killed many, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS), Ebola, swine flu, avian flu, and coronavirus and their roots in meat consumption or animal livestock raising, or both. We also cover how a plant-based diet is the best way to minimize zoonotic diseases or infectious diseases caused by the transmission of germs between animals and humans. “Scientists estimate that more than 6 out of every 10 known infectious diseases in people can be spread from animals, and 3 out of every 4 new or emerging infectious diseases in people come from animals.” This is known as zoonotic disease transmission. The CDC defines an epidemic as the number of cases of a transmittable disease arising suddenly above the expected level in a given population within a short period of time. A pandemic is “an epidemic that has spread over several countries or continents, usually affecting a large number of people.” It turns out that Mother Nature has already warned humanity about the meat-eating habit. The simple solution of adopting a vegan lifestyle to prevent zoonotic epidemics has been known for a long time. However, this obvious answer has been ignored….

Stopping Zoonotic Diseases: The Vegan Lifestyle Matters, Part 2 of 2

Today, we will talk about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and provide some tips from experts to help lessen the risk of infection. Like other coronaviruses, SARS-CoV-2 jumped from animals to humans. Some scientists theorize the pathogen started in bats, jumped to pangolins, and then to humans. The data and research findings from previous zoonotic disease epidemic and pandemic events and the current situation with COVID-19, clearly demonstrate that emergency action is needed and governments worldwide should now immediately ban all animal livestock raising and the sale of meat whether from domestic or wild animals to not only to protect global public health and save lives but also to show kindness and respect to our animal friends. Currently, the best way to protect yourself from getting infected by the novel coronavirus is to avoid being exposed to it. Regular hand washing is strongly recommended to help prevent infection. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers (at least 60% concentration). To avoid crowds and large gatherings, skipping non-essential trips outside the home and avoiding close contact with others by foregoing greetings like handshakes and hugging. A surgical mask is designed to guard against splashes and droplets and also wall off the droplets from the wearer.

Supreme Master Ching Hai (Vegan) on the Harmful Effects of Meat, Part 5 - Cruelty to Our Animals

00:16:49

Supreme Master Ching Hai (Vegan) on the Harmful Effects of Meat, Part 5 - Cruelty to Our Animals

In grocery stores and on restaurant tables, meat products are often well presented and nicely packaged, making people easily forget how they are produced. In our show today, we will take a closer look at the real picture of animal factories, as revealed in many of Supreme Master Ching Hai’s lectures. “We respect all lives in the creative plan of God. We can see ourselves, that all life resists suffering, resists death. Therefore, when we kill or see the animals killed, they are suffering and they try to run away. That means God empowers them with the instinct to want to live. So if we interfere and force their life away, we interfere with God's will. We should treat every being as we like to be treated. Then our life will be blessed with grace, with longevity, with wisdom.” “Nowadays they put them all in a factory, and force all kinds of medicine, sometimes poison, or antibiotics, etc., etc., or whatever they can do to force the cows to produce more milk than they should do. Sometimes they produce too much milk that they could not stand anymore. Their bones are rotten and brittle and broken. This is beyond cruelty. Just for the greed.” “When we think about how the animals suffer in such a situation, cramped factory, get kicked and electrically prodded, so that they stand up again so that they can be qualified for slaughter... And some veal (calves) just stand, weak, deprived of light and everything just so that their meat is tender and white, all their life like that, and they get slaughtered all the time. How do we have the heart to continue to support this kind of cruelty?” “Even if we do not directly partake in this killing, we are still responsible if we eat the meat or dairy products or even fish for that matter. Even eggs are being bred very cruelly. Milk, eggs, they’re all very cruelly bred. We cannot imagine what cruelty we humans inflict upon the innocent harmless animals. Even just a little chick like this, so puffy, so cute, so sweet. We have all this information on Supreme Master Television, if you care to look at how humans treat innocent, harmless and helpless animals. Even fish, since they are produced with the similar cruel practices as meat, we should not consume fish. If we engage on any level in the unspeakably inhumane practices of the animal industry, we also carry the burden of the animals’ murder – I’m sorry to say – indirectly. We carry the murders, the effect.”

Altruistic Animals

Today we would like to share with you some amazing stories of animals who turned their selfless concern into loving action for the benefit of others. Let’s start with a cat named Kuu. Cat Assists Dog with Dementia. Cat Saves Baby from Danger. Dog Keeps Lost Child Safe and Warm. Cat Saves Caregiver from Fire. Dog Saves Family from Fire. Let’s now meet a bull calf named Oliver. Bull Calf gives Love to Blind Bison. Just like humans, we animals are beings that have feelings. There are times when each of us needs some support, and these are the opportunities for those close to us to let their nobility shine and give selflessly. I trust you have enjoyed today’s stories and are perhaps even inspired to lend a softer heart and a more generous hand to all of Earth’s inhabitants.

How Farmers in Taiwan (Formosa) Transitioned from Raising Livestock Animals to Growing Food Crops, Part 1 of 2

00:16:03

How Farmers in Taiwan (Formosa) Transitioned from Raising Livestock Animals to Growing Food Crops, Part 1 of 2

A renowned Hakka cultural area, Meinong is located in northeast of Kaohsiung City and north of the Pingtung Plain. With 4,000 hectares of fertile land, it plays an important agricultural role in Taiwan (Formosa). In the early 1990’s, thousands of hogs were being raised annually in this densely populated area. Consequently, the water supply in the District became severely polluted, and the foul smell of the pigs’ excrement lingered heavily in the air. Today, however, the pig farms have all disappeared, and farmers are growing food crops instead. Recognizing that pig farming was the primary cause of the water pollution, the government developed a policy to stop all hog raising in the area. After the Meinong District hog farmers agreed to stop raising pigs, the government helped them find alternative sources of income. Since then, the farmers have met with great success with many of their food crops. “So, the local government simply guided these farmers to grow the famous Meinong cherry tomatoes as well as white jade radish, red beans, papaya, and recently, the guava. There has been a substantial growth in Meinong agriculture. In particular, the quality of our Meinong rice has won great esteem, always sold out.” One of the most successful recently introduced crops is the white-water snowflake, a delicious and nutritious plant that is native to this area. Now frequently grown in abandoned shrimp ponds, the white-water snowflake has become widely cultivated in the district. “Later, we found that white-water snowflake has considerable economic value, especially since the growing of it would not be affected by the climate. Even when a typhoon hits, it can be harvested as usual, which is helpful to the farmers.” Not only have the farmers enjoyed good profits since transitioning from raising pigs to growing food crops, but all the citizens of Meinong District are also benefitting. “What can be witnessed straightaway is the improvement of the water quality in both the gutters and irrigation canals, which in turn contributes to the recovery and clean-up of the originally lucid streams and rivers. There is no more foul odor. Furthermore, a normal ecology is starting to revive with fish and shrimps beginning to reappear in places that used to be stinky gutters.” “When Meinong was raising pigs, there were very few tourists. With the transformation to green agriculture, the pollution of water, air and environment has been stopped. The number of tourists has thus increased.”

Prison Animal Programs: Transforming Lives through Love

Some correctional facilities offer animal-assisted therapy as a form of treatment to selected inmates who demonstrate good behavior. Today, we find out about the benefits of these programs, how they work, and why they have been proven effective. In Australia, the Queensland Corrective Services runs the minimum-security Palen Creek Correctional Centre. The Centre works with a program that finds homes for greyhounds. Liam the greyhound was fostered by an inmate so he would become accustomed to life as an animal companion. Let’s now hear from Liam’s foster father at the Centre regarding his experiences as a program participant. “He’s also never judgmental; he’s happy no matter what your mood is and what you’re doing. So he’s happy to cruise around and smile and be with you. I think also having an animal involved in this program helps with the communication between officers and inmates.” Animals love us for who we are. Some animals even can touch individuals who do not show emotion, including the inmates sometimes referred to as the “tough guys” in incarceration facilities. Dogs and cats can help to teach prisoners about care and gentleness. Correctional facility-based animal programs save the lives of animals and aid inmates in growing in humanity and expanding their personal development.

Replacing Live Animal Testing with 3D-printing Technology

00:15:29

Replacing Live Animal Testing with 3D-printing Technology

3D-printing is an emerging revolutionary technology that could completely change the current approach to design and manufacturing, with profound geopolitical, economic, social, demographic, environmental, and security implications. 3D-printing technology is not only altering human life but is also significantly impacting the lives of animals. On today’s program, we happily share some of these great technological advances with our noble viewers. We’ll start off with a group of English scientists who have figured out a way to 3D-print cells grown in a laboratory to create living structures. This approach could revolutionize regenerative medicine, enabling the production of complex tissues and cartilage that could potentially support, repair or augment diseased and damaged areas of the body. “We were aiming to fabricate three-dimensional living tissues that could display the basic behaviors and physiology found in natural organisms.” In the United States, Harvard University researchers have also developed 3D-printed organs as an alternative to animal experimentation, having successfully made the first 3D- printed organs-on-chips. This new technology should help to reduce the rate of drug testing on animals by pharmaceutical companies and academic labs, as the organs-on-chips provide a groundbreaking substitute for traditional ways of testing. Supporting the use of technology to replace animal testing, Dr. Warren Casey, director of the U.S. National Toxicology Program’s Interagency Center for the Evaluation of Alternative Toxicological Methods, which studies alternatives to animal use in chemical-safety testing, says, “In theory, non-animal tests could be much cheaper and much faster.” Testing on these simplified, miniaturized versions of our physiology could deliver more human-relevant results than animal experiments.

One Planet Pizza - Good for You, Good for the Animals, Good for the Planet, Part 1 of 2

One Planet Pizza - Good for You, Good for the Animals, Good for the Planet, Part 1 of 2

Today, we are excited to bring you the story of the UK’s first, multi-award winning frozen vegan pizza company, One Planet Pizza, proudly co-founded by a father-and-son team, Mike and Joe Hill. Being a pioneer on many fronts, One Planet Pizza is the UK’s first ever crowd-funded 100% vegan food company. "Well, pizza, as they say, is one of the world’s most favorite foods! In the U.K. alone, it’s worth £480 million, and our aim is just to get perhaps one percent of that market, so that would be tens of thousands of people eating vegan pizza, rather than pizzas with meat and dairy." Mike not only saw the opportunity to introduce great pizzas to the market, but he also realized that people desperately needed better vegan alternatives, to assist them to step forward and bravely make a positive switch in their diet. "One of the phrases we use all the time is something called 'Pizza with Purpose.' So the idea is that we use pizza as an agent of change and it’s a way of encouraging people to eat less dairy, less meat." Mike’s son, Joe Hill, calls himself the “Chief Pizza Distributor.”Together with their like-minded shareholders, they are leading the company to be even more sustainable on many levels. Packaging is one of their outstanding achievements. Their ‘Zero to landfill packaging’ means all their pizza boxes are 100% compostable and all other packaging is fully recyclable. All the company’s recyclable wastes are shredded on site, given another life through composting and other eco-friendly processes. Bravo, One Planet Pizza, for leading by example, using innovative community supported fund-raising strategies, and putting so much hard work into developing such a successful product for the growing healthy vegan food market. You have made clear that every slice that your customers eat is a statement that they care for the environment and the lives of all animals.

How Farmers in Taiwan (Formosa) Transitioned from Raising Livestock Animals to Growing Food Crops, Part 2 of 2

How Farmers in Taiwan (Formosa) Transitioned from Raising Livestock Animals to Growing Food Crops, Part 2 of 2

This remarkable change occurred thanks to the wise Taiwanese (Formosan) government. To improve water quality, the government passed legislation, forbidding farmers to raise livestock animals in water conservation areas. First, we’ll speak with Mr Lee Huan-Sheng, a former tobacco farmer, who now makes his living growing delicious white-water snowflake. “Later I quit growing tobacco because the government ceased awarding tobacco planting contracts. When the contract was cancelled, we became jobless. So, we switched to planting white water snowflake.” Ms. Peng Yu-Wen was formerly a pig farmer in Meinong District. “In 1998, the government promoted a policy called the ‘Livestock Animals-Free Farming Policy,’ which was a nationwide policy. After leveling the land, we dug a pool and began to try planting white water snowflakes.” Although the transition was not easy, Ms. Peng is now grateful for the change. She notices many advantages. “In the past, when you just came close to Meinong Town, you could smell the pigpens from miles away because the density of pig farms was very high in Meinong at that time. But now there is none. Now when you’re in Meinong, the air quality is very fresh and comfortable.” Let’s now visit with Mr. Li Sheng-Hsiung, who formerly earned his income by leasing his farmland for tobacco cultivation but has now transitioned into growing many delicious food crops. “My income is no less than that from leasing out my lands to tobacco farmers. After switching to growing fruits and other sub-staples, it has improved our living quality and benefitted our family.” Ms. Peng also feels happier with her new way of farming. She shares some advice with other livestock animals-raising farmers who want to change from raising livestock animals to growing food crops. “Yes, being a plant-growing farmer is much happier than being a pig-raising farmer since there are many kinds of contagious diseases with pigs. Especially the disposal of dead pigs died of illness; it’s really heartbreaking and sad. I hope everyone will join our farming, grow diversified crops, and thus make the world a better place.”

A Golden Age of Animals

00:13:50

A Golden Age of Animals

Gold-colored animals are relatively rarer, so they are admired by humans, just like the precious metal! Regarded by some as the world’s most beautiful equine, our breed is famed for our toughness, resilience, and endurance, in addition to our legendary speed and intelligence. Some of our breed looks as if they had been dipped in gold! Another animal with a radiant, golden coat is the Golden Retriever, which is one of America’s most popular dog breeds. A domestic cat known for having a golden coat is the ginger cat or tabby. The golden jewel scarab beetle of Central America is one of the world’s most brightly colored insects. The goldenrod crab spiders, native to North America, make flowers such as goldenrod and daisies their home. The Panamanian golden frog is a type of toad. This species is cherished by Panamanians and is the national animal. Banana slugs are often bright golden yellow and sometimes spotted with brown blotches, thus resembling a ripe banana.

The End of Animal Husbandry, Part 1 of 2

00:22:00

The End of Animal Husbandry, Part 1 of 2

Welcome to Part 1 of our 2-Part series, “The End of Animal Husbandry” where we’ll examine the frightening relationship between animal livestock raising and global pandemics. Since early 2020, much of the world has been on “lockdown” in a valiant effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus, COVID-19, one of the worst pandemics in recent history. By the end of April, 2020, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union reported that at least 20 meatpacking workers had died, 6,500 others had tested positive or been quarantined, and 22 major meat and poultry processing plants had temporarily closed their doors. In a Facebook Live interview, Dr. Gary Anthone, Nebraska's Chief Medical Officer, said, “If there's one thing that might keep me up at night, it's the meat processing plants." According to the US trade association Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc., one factory farm recently euthanized two-million chickens deemed to be in excess. Political leaders from Iowa warned that if the state’s slaughterhouses remained closed, producers could be forced to euthanize as many as 700,000 pigs a week. COVID-19 has shaken our world. But, in fact, humans are not the only ones suffering from a pandemic. Recently, millions of domestic animals have also died from global virus-induced illnesses. Although these recent diseases are not transferrable to humans, they have been highly lethal for factory-farmed animals. In August 2018, the first case of African Swine Flu was discovered on a farm in China’s northeastern province of Liaoning. Over the next year, the disease spread quickly across much of the county, killing as many as 220 million pigs. What is all this death and destruction trying to tell us? Supreme Master Ching Hai has warned us many times that when we kill others, either animals or humans, we create immensely bad karma for ourselves. “The current COVID-19 pandemic is a direct karmic consequence of our actions. So this karma cannot be escaped. You can change it by taking dramatic counter-reaction. (Yes. What’s this counter-reaction?) It’s GO TOTAL VEGAN!”

Better Understanding Animals: Marie-Noëlle Baroni and Telepathic Animal Communicator Laila del Monte (vegetarian), Part 1 of 3

It will feature excerpts from our interview with the gifted American communicator Ms. del Monte and Ms. Baroni, who rescues animals and coaches some of them for filmmakers who wish to feature them in their movies. Laila del Monte has been communicating with animals since she was a child. At first, she thought it was something everyone could do. When she realized that her ability was a unique talent, she cultivated it and chose to dedicate her life to helping animals of all kinds. Marie-Noëlle Baroni, from France turned a natural affinity with animals into a special service for the motion-picture industry. The makers of “The Fox and the Child” as well as “Seasons” enlisted her to train the starring animals. She lives on her own educational farm, where visitors can meet some non-human movie stars and learn about caring for animals. “My name is Laila del Monte, and I communicate with animals. And so it’s a long journey of 25 years to transmit information about animal consciousness to people through teachings, seminars all over the world. There are people like Marie-Noëlle who work daily with animals. They establish a kind of silence-connection – I don’t really know what to call it. There is an internal silence and a connection that is established with the animal from day to day.” “But the extraordinary thing is that everybody has this ability. Everybody, from the youngest to the oldest, everybody has this. It’s like all learning.” “They teach us all the time, but we are the ones who have to learn. We have a responsibility to know them, to know their minds and to know how they work. They exist, they are there, and it is we who destroy their environment, and we are the ones who make all the mistakes. So our responsibility is to approach and understand them. And by understanding their consciousness, that’s how we can transform a little bit the things that are happening on our planet.”

Emma Hurst – Unequivocal Voice for the Animals, Part 1 of 2

The Honorable Emma Hurst is a member of the Australian state of New South Wales’ Legislative Council where she uses this platform to tirelessly campaign for animal protection reform and animal rights. Ms. Hurst is also a long time vegan, plant-based bodybuilder and a registered psychologist. “I didn’t want to kill animals. I had no idea that even eating organic or free-range eggs, meant that all day-old male chicks in the egg industry would be macerated. And that in the dairy industry, that calves will be torn away from their mothers and taken to slaughterhouses. When I read all this information, it was just like the lights switched on, and I just went vegan overnight. I worked for Animal Liberation for over a decade. I’ve also worked for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). And I decided that it was really people that needed to change, not animals.” Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Joyfully present The Honorable Emma Hurst the Shining World Leadership Award for Compassion, with all love, a big hug and best wishes, in Heaven’s grace. May you and all your supporters forever be in God’s favor.”

Quokka – The World’s Happiest Animal

Quokka – The World’s Happiest Animal

With our round cheeks and wide smiles, we quokkas have been dubbed one of the cutest animals on our planet. We are covered with short, very course and thick, grizzled brown fur with lighter parts underneath. Our relatively short tail has very little hair, but our feet are very hairy! On our cute and lovely face are a big, black nose, a pleasing mouth, and a pair of charming black eyes. In 2013, quokkas were given the title of “The Happiest Animal in the World” by American news website HuffPost.Com, because to humans, we always seem to be smiling. Our cutest chubby-cheeked smile can range from a tiny beam to a toothy grin. It is not that the structure of our mouth or jaw makes us have to smile. It is our cheerful nature. Our biggest threat is deforestation, which reduces our habitat ranges and food sources. Climate change, which affects the vegetation and rainfall, is also a threat to us. We urgently call for global action to stop the destruction of natural habitats and the adoption by humans of the sustainable vegan lifestyle.
