A study by UnitedStates-based nonprofit Animal Charity Evaluators assessed that on average, aperson adopting a vegan diet saves the lives of nearly 105 animals each year.Of the lives spared, approximately 92.5 are wild and farmed fish, 11.6 arefarmed birds including chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys, and 0.6 are farmedmammals such as pigs, rabbits, sheep, goats and cows.Entitled “The Effects ofDiet Choices,” the analysis estimated that over 772 billion animals wereslaughtered in 2018 for human consumption, basing the calculation primarily ondata from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.The authorsnoted that if adding the animals who died due to the indirect causes of meatproduction such as deforestation, the number of lives saved by a vegan isactually higher.Our earnest appreciation, Animal Charity Evaluators. Bill Gates, a Shining World Compassion Award recipient, says wealthy nations should eat plant-based beef to stop climate change.In a recent interview with MIT Technology Review belonging to the United States’ Massachusetts Institute of Technology, American philanthropist Bill Gates outlined that the world’s wealthiest countries “should move to 100% synthetic beef” to stop climate change.He also suggested the implementation of bonuses and strong government regulations to totally change consumer demand to plant-based alternatives. The Polish Interior Ministry has proposed legislation to provide dogs and horses that have served the police, fire department and border guard with government-paid, lifetime living costs, including food and veterinary care, upon their retirement.Interior Minister, the Honorable Mariusz Kaminski, stated, “They are extraordinary animals. Thanks to them, many human lives have been saved and many dangerous criminals have been caught. Caring for them is our ethical duty.”Presently, over 1,200 dogs and 62 horses are working within Poland’s Interior Ministry. Once their retirement comes, their human partner would be given the choice to adopt them, or they could live at an animal care facility.Thank you, Poland, for your kind consideration.
