Shining World Invention Award Recipient: Solubag, Earth-saving Plastic Alternative

Shining World Invention Award Recipient: Solubag, Earth-saving Plastic Alternative

People produce about 311 million tons of plastics every year. We use so many different types of disposable plastics, which mostly find their way into the oceans. This ends up as tons of pollution which stays in our oceans and will be consumed by sea animals and other living creatures. Fortunately, there have been individuals and organizations who work tirelessly to help ameliorate this increasingly serious environmental problem. A company from Chile has developed Solubag, which works just as well as the traditional plastic bag, but does not contain any harmful chemicals. We are lucky to have an exclusive interview with Mr. Roberto Astete and Mr. Cristian Oilivares, the two co-founders of the company. “SoluBag started from a detergent we started to develop, and through time we realized that the detergent was not the best idea and we changed into developing a bag.” “However, our material is not plastic, we do not have any plastic traceability within the process. It's a material that simulates plastic and that has led to be a very easy replacement to use. The other thing that stands out as a product is that there is no technology in which anyone could destroy the plastic bag directly in their house.”During the interview, they showed us some of their products that are available in markets: t-shirt bags, sheet detergent and cloth bags. All are made from their eco-friendly materials. Upon learning of this amazing innovation, our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai joyfully presented the Shining World Invention Award to Solubag, “plus US$10,000 toward this environment-protecting project. May Heavens bless you.”“We want to thank you for looking at our invention and for the support that we as a start-up are so in need, that people like Her notice us and can support us to continue growing and to develop this type of technology. That is to say, it was a blessing for us to have received these funds because we were just at a stage where we needed the funds very urgently to be able to patent this worldwide.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Saving Animals From Euthanasia, Part 1 of 2

00:14:44

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Saving Animals From Euthanasia, Part 1 of 2

Our precious animal companions are often our best friends and beloved family members. As much as they depend on us for care and protection, they also fill our hearts and homes with abundant joy, love, and blessings. Yet sadly, not all dogs and cats find themselves in loving forever families. In Australia, approximately 211,000 animal companions end up in shelters annually with nearly 44,000 euthanized. Founded in 2003 by Sue Hedley, Western Australian group Saving Animals from Euthanasia (SAFE) is an animal welfare organization dedicated to ending animal euthanasia through rehoming solutions for crowded shelters. "SAFE’s mission is to ensure that no companion animal succumbs to euthanasia purely through lack of somewhere to stay and that the optimum quality of life is achieved for all companion animals." Ms. Sue Hedley believes that finding loving homes to foster our animal friends is a more practical, cost-efficient, and humane alternative to isolation in shelter cages. "When I started SAFE and realized what the need was, I never thought for a moment of building a big shelter and putting animals in cages. It was just autopilot for me to go straight into the foster care way of operation. I knew there was endless homes. Anyone can foster. It doesn’t have to be a lifelong commitment. In fact, we encouraged people just to give it a go, just a one-off time can save a life. So no cages, no buildings, no cost of staff, cleaning, food. Our foster carers generally are happy providing food. So, it’s a really low-cost model and so humane. An animal can be in care with SAFE for a year and it’s no different to whether they’re in a permanent home. They just end up with a family as they would be. So it’s just a win-win for everybody really. SAFE focuses on matching pets with people. Due to the possibilities of foster care, there’s no urgency to adopt pets, but rather it allows time for the right match to be made. When pets can be viewed or discussed at length by phone or photos or even videos, potential owners can get to know the pet’s personality, rather than visiting an institution to view animals in cages, where their future is uncertain. How better the choice the adopters are likely to make, knowing that any pet they view or inquire about is going to stay in a loved home until a well-matched permanent home is found. No more pity or guilt-based decisions."

Acts of Compassion Beget Acts of Heroic Love, Part 2 of 2

One day in 2016, rescuers found a severely wounded 2-year-old Golden Retriever in a garbage bag. Members of Nabiya Irion Hope Project rescued her and gave her urgent medical treatment. "Chi Chi" had lost all her legs, but not her strong will to live. The joint mission to give Chi Chi a new life brought these two noble organizations together, Nabiya-Irion Hope Project and ARME. Shannon Keith and her team at ARME found Chi Chi a loving home with Richard and Elizabeth Howell in Arizona, USA. After being fitted with special prostheses, Chi Chi trained to become a certified therapy dog. She then spent her life serving and comforting people in hospitals and social care centers until she passed away in 2019. She brought so much joy and happiness to people she was named the 2018 American Hero Dog. Touched by the love shared between Chi Chi and her rescuers, beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai tearfully sent, "a heartfelt thanks to all involved and a big hug to Chi Chi! You'll go to a forever Heaven and your benevolent adopted family be blessed forever." Master also presented the Shining World Compassion Award to both noble organizations, Nabiya-Irion Hope Project and ARME, and a US$10,000 contribution to each "with high salute and thankfulness. May all involved be immensely blessed."

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Al Larson – The Bluebird Man

Bluebirds symbolize wealth and prosperity and are also seen as spiritual messengers that herald joy and prosperity. If a bluebird appears in your life, it is believed that you will be successful, happy, and your family will enjoy good health. In North America, due in part to increasing nesting competition from other species, these little birds declined in population between the 1950s and 1970s. Fortunately, there have been some people who worked tirelessly to help bluebird populations recover. In southwest Idaho, United States, lives 96-years-young A Larson, lovingly known as the “Bluebird Man.” Al was one of the first citizen scientists to dedicate time and effort to preserving these precious birds. He now travels more than 5,000 miles each summer to monitor bluebird nest boxes he built and installed across five counties in the state. Here is our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai’s response upon learning of his amazing life-work. “From Supreme Master Ching Hai for Al Larson. Bluebird Protector, Wildlife Photographer. In Recognition of Life dedicated to the Protection and Conservation of Bluebirds, Inspiring Kindness, Nobility, and Nurturing the Community Spirit. With Compliments and Gratitude for Your Compassionate and Benevolent Commitment to Saving Precious Animal Lives.” She cheerfully presents Al Larson with the “Shining World Compassion Award” as we mentioned, plus US$15,000 for his love filled noble work in God's mercy. “I just want to thank the Supreme Master for the attention that She has given to my endeavors. " " I guess all I can say is thank you, again! It’s something that I had never ever dreamed of."

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue

Fifty miles (80 km) northwest of New York City, USA, lie the 230-acre (93 hectare) lush and charming Skylands Animal Sanctuary & Rescue, home to more than a hundred farm animal friends. The sanctuary founder, Mike Stura, used to be a truck driver and found new meaning in life by providing rescued animals a loving home. Over a year ago, Brianna, a pregnant cow courageously kicked down the door of a moving truck to escape a cruel fate. A call from the police at the scene woke up Mike and he immediately rushed to collect her. At the safety of the sanctuary two days later, Brianna gave birth to a healthy baby girl calf, Winter. Upon learning of this news, our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai tearfully offered the Shining World Compassion Award to Mike Stura and Skylands Sanctuary, “plus a humble US$15,000 contribution, with all love and gratitude in God’s mercy.” “Dear Mike, It is with great admiration and gratitude that we present to you the “Shining World Compassion Award” for the love and dedication shown towards animals, providing ‘a place for them, a place for hope’. You are nurturing kindness within the community and creating a brighter future for all of Earth’s co-inhabitants. We humbly present this Award in recognition of the haven you have provided, rescuing, sheltering and ensuring our precious animal friends have a forever home.” “For benevolently striving for a loving world for all beings, and for your gentleness and untiring kindness, we hereby applaud and celebrate the great compassionate deeds of Mike Stura. May God bless and protect you and Brianna’s family, as well as the kind police involved. With Great Honor, Love and Blessings in God’s Grace Supreme Master Ching Hai” “This is very, very nice. It's very cool. Thank you, Supreme Master. I don't know what to say. I'm touched. I’m moved. I'll try to do my best. Thank you for choosing us to support. I appreciate it tremendously and I appreciate the work that you do, to spread compassion and the word of a vegan lifestyle to the world. It's fantastic! I really thank you very much. Thank you.”

Shining World Protection Award: Emirates Environmental Group

Today, we travel to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to meet Mrs. Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), a non-governmental organization working on environmental issues over the pass three decades. Developing educational programs for grade school students up to college level, EEG is able to turn environmental challenges into action programs, while teaching participants the importance of protecting our environment. The EEG Action program ‘Plant UAE’ was first introduced in 2007 as a way to repopulate the United Arab Emirates with native trees and the program has increased understanding of the local environment. As a way to encourage recycling and tree planting, Mrs. Al Mar’ ashi would ask participants to collect recyclable items such as cans and exchange them for saplings to plant. For more than a decade, their annual planting event has seen growing participation from the government, private sector and academia. Our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai, upon learning of Mrs. Al Mar’ ashi’s noble efforts, “cheerfully present the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) the Shining World Protection Award, with high praises and big salute in Allah’s Love and Grace.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient-Dr. Jay Grossman of Homeless Not Toothless, Part 1 of 2

Homeless Not Toothless is a non-profit charitable organization. Dr. Grossman and his team of volunteer dental providers have given away free dental care to homeless veterans and civilians alike as well as foster children for nearly three decades. Our Association members in Los Angeles, USA had honor of interviewing Dr. Jay Grossman. “I didn’t want to take care of today, I wanted to take care of tomorrow. So by giving them teeth and getting them out of pain and having them look good so they could interview for a job, and being able to eat and properly nourish themselves, they can now sustain themselves for a lifetime. That’s how Homeless Not Toothless got started.” Through this connection, Dr. Grossman’s Homeless Not Toothless expanded their free dental care services to foster children in the Los Angeles area. “The last 3 years, they've treated over 15,000 kids for free.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Mrs. Gia Trần – Spreading Happiness Through Benevolent Deeds

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Mrs. Gia Trần – Spreading Happiness Through Benevolent Deeds

We are in the presence of an extraordinary person who braved all the weather conditions there are to devote part of her day to doing a task that is pure devotion for others. Immigrating to Vancouver, Canada in 1980 from Âu Lạc (Vietnam) as a single mother of four young children, Mrs. Trần spent a decade supporting her children by cleaning apartments and motels. Wanting also to help the needy and contribute to her community, she started collecting cans and bottles as a way to raise funds. Every day for over 21 years, Mrs. Gia Trần, has dedicated herself to scouring the streets of Canada, collecting bottles and cans for up to ten hours a day. These are then cashed in for as low as five cents a bottle. Rather than keeping her earnings herself, she donates most of it to the needy and various charities. Over the decades it is estimated that Mrs. Trần has contributed more than $15,000 to the B.C. Cancer Foundation alone, where she visits daily. Known as the angel of East Hastings, Mrs. Trần brings a smile to everyone’s face with her pure-hearted cheerfulness. “I want to help people. I love people. I have money; I help cancer [patients]; I help big hospitals; I help the children’s hospital. I want to help [homeless] people.” Deeply touched by her altruistic deeds, Supreme Master Ching Hai presented Mrs. Gia Trần the Shining World Compassion Award, and a loving contribution of USD $20,000. “Dear Ms. Trần, It is with much admiration and gratitude that we present to you the Shining World Compassion Award for your timeless devotion to help cancer victims. This Award is presented in recognition of your outstanding humanitarian efforts to simultaneously help clean our environment and provide assistance to patients in need."

Founded by vegan animal lovers, Mr. David Walker and Ms. Dwynwen Jones or DJ, the Goodheart Animal Sanctuaries consist of the Goodheart Farm Animal Sanctuary in Worcestershire and their sister sanctuary, Wiccaweys Rescued Border Collies and Working Sheepdogs in Laughton, UK. They also provide free advice and lifetime support to new human caretakers. Once a dog enters Wiccaweys, they become a permanent family member whether they stay or go to a new home. Wiccaweys has found forever homes for thousands of rescues. Upon learning of this beautiful organization, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai lovingly offered Goodheart Animal Sanctuaries the Shining World Compassion Award and “a humble US$15,000 gift towards this humane endeavor in Heavens’ mercy.” “May you, all involved and under your care enjoy happiness and safety in God’s love.” “Thank you! Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Action for a Cause Now - Candice Payne

Today, we are going to travel to Chicago, United States of America, to meet the founder of Action for a Cause Now, Candice Payne. Action for a Cause Now is a charitable organization, through which Candice, and a team of volunteers, provide housing for homeless people. “Sitting at home looking at the TV, the news really kind of scared me actually, cause it was everywhere that we were having a polar vortex in this deadly weather, so I just knew I needed to do something, and the 30 hotel rooms was a start. That was a start of what I can do. I had no idea that reaching out to my social media network and people coming together was going to be able to help us to provide housing for over a hundred and twenty-two people for five nights. So, I just knew that I needed to do something, and you know, we saved lives that day!” “Dear Candice, It is with great admiration and gratitude that we present to you the ‘Shining World Compassion Award’ for ‘helping our neighborhood friends.’ This Award is presented in recognition of your untiring efforts to alleviate homelessness by building shelters to provide a dignified life for our less-fortunate displaced citizens. Your devotion combined with magical entrepreneurial flair is making a difference in the world – bringing joy and hope, heralding a new era of community empathy.” “May all involved and those you care for be blessed with all necessities and Love. Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: StreetVet and Street Paws

Today we travel to England, United Kingdom, to learn about Street Paws and StreetVet. Street Paws was established in 2013 and StreetVet was founded in 2016. Both organizations work together to provide free fundamental veterinary care for animal companions of homeless people. Besides offering checkups, vaccinations and life-saving operations, they also provide free warm clothing for furry friends, bowls, beds, collars, food and other necessities. Our Association members had exclusive interviews with Jade Statt, Co-founder and Director of StreetVet, and Michelle Southern, Founder and Director of Street Paws. These two remarkable organizations have been doing extraordinary work to help the animal companions of displaced individuals. Eight cities in the south of England are served by 300 volunteer vets and nurses of StreetVet, while 175 Street Paws volunteers work in 18 locations in the north. Upon learning of the dedication of Jade, Michelle and their teams, our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai “gratefully present StreetVet and Street Paws the Shining World Compassion Award, plus US$15,000 each for extra support toward their noble endeavor. May God forever bless and protect you and all involved, as well as all under your care.” Ms. Jade Statt kindly accepted the award and shared with us what they plan to use the fund for. “Thank you so much. When we received an acknowledgement that we've got this and it's been... Yeah, an amazing contribution, to help us with the work that we're doing and help us expand into more locations across the UK. We are so, so grateful that there are people and organizations like yourself, that believe in the service that we're providing and want to support us 'cause it means that it's validating our work and allows us to help more and more animals.”

Shining World Protection Award Recipient: Redefine Meat – Advancing Vegan Food Technology, Part 2 of 2

Today, we continue our interview with Mr. Eshchar Ben-Shitrit, its founder and CEO. Mr. Ben-Shitrit talks about what motivated him to work towards a vegan world. “So, here is a famous writing about the vision of vegetarianism and peace. Essentially what he says is that, all human beings are morally corrupt; and because we are morally corrupt, we eat animals. But the first stage for peace in the world for the Messiah to come back, it was to stop being morally corrupt. And the first step is to be vegetarian. This is something I really have passion for. We’re, doing amazing technology, very complicated with many challenges. But we're doing it in a place that has an impact on the planet, on the future, on possibly what world I’m leaving for my son. But it’s also fun and tasty.” After hearing of their amazing work to encourage the planet-saving, plant-based diet, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Joyfully present the Shining World Protection Award to Jet-Eat, (now known as Redefine Meat) with a humble contribution of US$20,000 towards this fantastic project. With big, happy praises, and best wishes for success in Heaven’s abundant blessing.” “And accompanying the Award is this crystal plaque. I’ll take a moment to read it. For Redefine Meat, formerly known as Jet-Eat. In Recognition of Ingenious Eco-Friendly 3D Printing of Vegan Nourishment Brilliantly Creating a Solution for Instant, Tasty & Nutritious Food Reducing Carbon Footprint and Saving Our Planet With Compliments and Gratitude For Outstanding Environmental Protection Efforts Presented by Supreme Master Ching Hai” “How nice is that? Right? So it’s really exciting. So it was very emotional, and really... To think that there’s somebody sitting literally in the other side of the world, as I said, that thinks about how they can support, how they can tell people, ‘Well done! Keep up what you are doing!’ It’s really nice. And then we learned a little bit about the Supreme Master and all the work, and looking at how you promote an idea through food. Food is very intimate, you put it in your body. So promoting an idea through food is very powerful.” Congratulations, Redefine Meat! We are excited about your work and wish you continual success in God’s protection.

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Dog Assistance in Disability

Dog A.I.D. is a non-profit organization with volunteer trainers who teach canine companions of people with disabilities to perform helpful day-to-day tasks. Today, we are travelling to Shrewsbury, Shropshire, United Kingdom, to meet the Chair of the Trustees of Dog A.I.D., Sandra Fraser. We also hear from Mike McDonald, who serves as Chief Executive Officer, in an interview conducted by our Association members from the UK. "Our mission is to help as many people as possible through the training of their own pet dogs to become assistance dogs, so that's all done with the help of volunteers. Dog A.I.D. works through the recruitment of volunteer trainers. The trainers are all professional dog trainers that we recruit. We then pair them with a disabled person who's got their own dog, the trainer goes to the home of that person and helps them train their own pet dog to become an assistance dog. It can take between six months to two years. And the trainer is in constant contact with that person, but that person learns how to train the dog themselves, so it gives them a great deal of self-satisfaction and also empowers them to carry on with their life in as much of a normal way as they possibly can." Touched by their volunteer work and selfless sacrifice in helping to transform companion dogs into disability assistants, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai gratefully presented Dog A.I.D with the Shining World Compassion Award. Our Association members from the United Kingdom organized an award presentation ceremony to honor Sandra Fraser and Mike McDonald of Dog A.I.D. “For providing canine warmth and loving care for those in need, and for developing the special gifts that animals bring humans, we hereby applaud and celebrate the great compassionate deeds of Dog A.I.D. May you and your loved ones be blessed with good health and continue to comfort humans and dogs in your loving way. With great honor, love and blessings in God's grace, Supreme Master Ching Hai.” In addition to the Award Letter, we also presented Dog A.I.D. with a crystalline plaque and loving contribution of US$15,000 from Master to support their compassionate work. "Thank You, Supreme Master Ching Hai, we are honored and delighted to receive this award on behalf of our supporters, our volunteers, our volunteer trainers, our clients and of course our wonderful dogs."

Shining World Award Laureates – Honorable Deeds for an Illuminated World, Part 2 of 2

Let's continue Part 2 of the series by meeting Steve Greig, an accountant and animal advocate, from the United States. Seeing that senior canines have a much lower chance of being adopted into permanent families, this kind man decided to step in and offer a home to as many as he could manage. Supreme Master Ching Hai: "Joyfully present Steve Greig the Shining World Compassion Award, with all love, high praises and gratitude, in God's mercy and USD$10,000 for his loved animals' vegan treats." Odin, a Great Pyrenees dog, risked his life and was injured while protecting his herd of goats from the California wildfires. Supreme Master Ching Hai: "Tearfully present the Shining World Hero Award to Odin the Great Pyrenees, plus US$2,000 for vegan goodies, with a big hug and lots of kisses."

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Faithful Friends Animal Society

Today, our spotlight is on Faithful Friends Animal Society, a private, non-profit animal welfare organization with a no-kill shelter in Delaware, USA. Founded 20 years ago, the organization has saved countless dogs, cats and other animals. Founder and executive director, Ms. Jane Pierantozzi, shared some of their goals and achievements in an exclusive interview with us. “We’ve dramatically reduced the killing. We provide medical care. We also have a foster care system. If there are special needs and they don’t get adopted, they go into foster homes. And we also have ways to help people keep their pets in their homes. We also have a pet lifeline to help give people advice when they’re looking for resources for strays that they found. We have over 400 volunteers working side by side with about 70 employees.” Following a “No Kill” philosophy, the organization believes in treating every animal as an individual with dignity and respect. Hearing of their noble work in helping our precious co-inhabitants, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “thankfully present Faithful Friends Animal Society the Shining World Compassion Award plus a humble contribution of US$15,000 towards this noble society.” On June 12, 2019, our Association members joyfully presented the award and gifts to Ms. Jane Pierantozzi and her team at Faithful Friends Animal Society. “Dear Ms. Pierantozzi, It is with great admiration and gratitude that we present to Faithful Friends Animal Society the ‘Shining World Compassion Award’ for nurturing kindness towards and protecting animals. This Award is presented in recognition of the shelter’s noble advocacy to end euthanasia, its commitment to shelter and lovingly care for animals. Your exemplary efforts herald a new era of empathy and harmonious co-existence with our precious animal friends.” Ms. Jane shared with us these final thoughts before we parted ways. “I just want to thank You again, the Supreme Master and Your organization for Your love of animals and for Your gracious award today and the grant award that will help us with our mission to care for the animals. Also we’d just encourage other animal shelters across the world that care for dogs and cats to also open their heart to care for all animals and to embrace the plant-based diet, which we are promoting here.”
