Enhancing Agriculture, Soil and Forest Management Across the Globe, Part 2 of 3

The Middle East, during the past few decades, soil erosion, deforestation and clime change have threatened both the natural resources and agriculture. But the good news is that many projects are underway; the SFP scheme of providing food, fresh water and clean energy to the people of Jordan. And another exciting development is the SOILS Permaculture Association Lebanon. The permaculture ethics of ‘People care, Earth care and Fair care’ serves as guiding principles to work towards a better, improved future.

The Adventurous Mr. Rob Greenfield - Living Earth-Friendly, Part 1 of 3

My name is Rob Greenfield, and I’m an adventurer and an activist. Normally I live a near zero-waste life. But lately people have been calling me “The Trash Man”. I have been living just like the average American for the last month in New York City, wearing every single piece of trash that I create everywhere I go. In 2011, I was living a fairly normal American lifestyle. But then I started to watch a lot of documentaries, read a lot of books, realized that everything that I was doing was causing destruction to the world. At that point I decided to change my life.

TreePeople: Let’s plant the future together! Part 2 of 3

TreePeople is a US-based organization teach about the context of the whole ecosystem, the role the trees play and people play. And then they have different stations. The kids learn about healthy soils and they learn about trees, and water and they do it in a way where it’s super fun. It’s all science based, it all matches the state curriculum. However, in more recent times, TreePeople has expanded their focus. Tree People now also provides education on how to conserve water and harvest rain. It [all] started with tree plantings. The whole cycle that supports that tree and that supports us, people living here.

TreePeople: Let’s plant the future together! Part 3 of 3

“My heart is filled, time and time again, when I see people in their community, wherever it is, smiling because they've planted a tree.” “Trees bring greenery, peace and beauty to our lives!” Jim Hardie, Director of Operations of TreePeople, recalls some. TreePeople is a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles, California, whose mission is to inspire and support people to plant and care for trees in their own communities, with the goal of growing a more beautiful, greener, shadier and more water-secure city.

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs): A Health and Environmental Hazard, Part 1 of 2

With enormous influence from the biotech and the agribusiness companies, the administration at that time approved GMOs, even though they had very little evidence to determine whether they were safe or unsafe. And now there is accumulating evidence about possible health impacts of GMOs. I think some of the concerns that are being raised are essentially the way that the microbiota in the gut interacts with genetically engineered foods, and the possible allergic reactions of people who might be allergic to the thing, which is the gene that's introduced from one organism into another.

Global Sustainability: The Future of Earth Rests in Our Hands, Part 2 of 2

Over the last 50 years, we've actually exponentially moved in the wrong direction, for the last ten thousand years. But equally, that what we do over the next 50 years will determine our outcome for the next ten thousand years. As Dr.Rockstrom shares his insights on how we can restore the health of our precious planet. That we need to peak emissions of greenhouse gases no later than 2020. Must take us to a net zero carbon economy by mid-century. Let's hope we do so.

Indigenous Peoples: Guardians of Mother Earth, Part 1 of 2

How can you buy or sell the sky, the warmth of the land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them? Every part of the Earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every clear and humming insect is holy in the memory and experience of my people. The perfumed flowers are our sisters, the deer, the horse, the great eagle, these are our brothers. The rocky crests, the juices in the meadows, the body heat of the pony, and the man, all belong to the same family.

The Ethics and Climate Change Relationship: An Interview with Dr. Jeff Sebo, Part 1 of 2

Historically, we have dominated and exploited other animals and nature for our own benefit, and that has come from a sense that we are more important than anything else on this planet. We belong here and everything else belongs here for our benefit. That ideology, that narrative does have to change. We have to learn how to gracefully coexist with other animals and with natural systems in a sustainable way, and that will have to involve pretty dramatic changes to the way that we live.

The Adventurous Mr. Rob Greenfield - Living Earth-Friendly, Part 3 of 3

The first step that someone can take to living a simpler life. I think the first step is a step that feels right to you. Something that you feel like you can do right now. And for each person that could be totally different. For some people, maybe they feel like they could move to a more plant-based diet tomorrow and it would feel great and it would feel right. For some people maybe they feel like they could start their bike more. Some people feel like, they could fund a local organization. Maybe they have a lot of extra money and they could fund a local organization that can feed tens of thousands of people.

Creating a Brighter Future for Solar Energy: 13-year old Georgia Hutchinson

Creating a Brighter Future for Solar Energy: 13-year old Georgia Hutchinson

Georgia Hutchinson, a grade 8 student from Woodside Elementary School, in Woodside, California, USA, has earned great admiration for her inventive talents. Georgia learned that it is the angle at which the sun’s rays meet the surface of the solar panel, which determines how much energy the panel can produce. She then learned that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has a mathematical equation, which determines the position of the sun in the sky. Georgia wrote a computer program, which drives the motors, ensuring that the panels are always perpendicular to the sun. Her solar panels can generate twice more energy than fixed panels.

The Adventurous Mr. Rob Greenfield - Living Earth-Friendly, Part 2 of 3

Rob Greenfield is an American adventurer, environmental activist, and humanitarian. In 2014, Mr. Greenfield decided to step out of the consumer-orientated world most of us in, and live in a tiny 4.6 sq. m. home, where he was mostly self-sustaining. Living in the service of others is living in the service of yourself. Because talk to anybody who lives in the service of others and you will see they are a lot of the healthiest, happiest people on earth. So if your goal in life is to be happy and healthy, live in service of others.
