I wanted to run, run towards them, and then something stopped me. And something said, “No, you’ve come this far already. You’ve learned so many lessons already. You have made a contract to do this.” Basically, “You have a mission to do. It’s time to go back.” Canadian hypnotherapist Pia recounts her near-death experience the night she drove off a cliff— and how her father’s spirit intervened to save her life.
Pia, formerly homeless and a recovering addict, had spent her life “going through everything you can think of.” While driving one winter night, Pia’s truck hit black ice and began to roll. She experienced time slowing dramatically, as well as a mysterious protective force. All of a sudden, everything went into slow motion, the whole truck. I stopped being panicky, and it was almost like I went into a very peaceful, Zen-like feeling. And what should have lasted seconds for the car to just roll, roll, roll right down the hill seemed to last 10 or 15 minutes. I could see cups and saucers and cutlery and everything just flying around in my car, and I could see the windshield break in half and come forward. But where I was sitting in the driver’s side didn’t move, and I felt like I was in a cage. And I remember as well looking down by my feet and there was a yellow light, almost like an orb. And I remember being very warm. It’s almost like I was just hovering there in the car and something was wrapped around me, and I knew that I was being downloaded with something.
Although the snow buried her car and hid it from passing headlights, Pia miraculously survived. I don’t know how I was able to climb up that mountain with six broken ribs and blood pouring out of my head. I was in shock, and the adrenaline I guess kicked in for me to save myself because nobody would have found me down there.
Later that night, as she lay in bed, Pia found herself journeying somewhere beyond. I saw trees ahead of me, and I was walking along a riverbed and it was all kinds of rocks. But it was hazy, like I saw a bunch of people up ahead in the tree line. It was almost like fog and people ahead, like lights. I wanted to run, run towards them, and then something stopped me. I didn’t see what stopped me, but I heard a voice. And I couldn’t go any further. And something said, “No, you’ve come this far already. You’ve learned so many lessons already. You have made a contract to do this. You’re almost there.” Basically, “You have a mission to do. It’s time to go back. And you’ll know what to do.” And that’s it. So I was sent back.
When Pia awoke, everything had shifted. I was a completely different person. I suffered from depression for so many years— the depression was gone. It was gone! My whole personality was different. Nothing mattered. I was so positive, and it was just like everything’s going to be fine. But the changes were overwhelming. Flooded with intuition, strange urgings, and a new identity, she eventually asked her angels to “slow things down.” She began to connect with spiritual churches, returned to school for hypnotherapy, and discovered her ability to channel messages, identify clients’ blocks, and facilitate healing— gifts that finally made sense of her hard life.
Pia later learned through spirit communication that her deceased father had intervened during the crash. My dad had died over 20 years ago, and that was my dad sitting behind me. He told me if he wasn’t sitting there, I would have broken my back. And that makes sense, because if I broke all my ribs, why wouldn’t I have broken my back? He sat there and saved me from that, because I would have been in a wheelchair or something. And he said he knows me, and he said I wouldn’t have done good in a wheelchair, and I would have given up, and I wouldn’t have done what I’m doing. Because I’m the kind of girl— if you know me, I wouldn’t do good in a wheelchair!
Emerging from the experience, Pia found meaning in her suffering, which she now recognizes as training for the soul. Where we are, this is a school, you know. We’re not from here, we’re from the other side. And our soul is here to grow. These are all lessons— these are all just lessons— and to just hold on and get through this. It makes you grow so much stronger. We’ve come here to experience these things. People get really stuck on that, and if they can learn to forgive and let go and accept so they can free themselves from that. And there’s always going to be more lessons, and then you just grow stronger and forward. (NDE Diary)
