Selected Poems from Gitanjali by Rabindranath Tagore, Part 2 of 2

Selected Poems from Gitanjali by Rabindranath Tagore, Part 2 of 2

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; Where words come out from the depth of truth; Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection; Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit; Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action – Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake. This is my prayer to thee, my lord – strike, strike at the root of penury in my heart. Give me the strength lightly to bear my joys and sorrows. Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service. Give me the strength never to disown the poor or bend my knees before insolent might. Give me the strength to raise my mind high above daily trifles. And give me the strength to surrender my strength to thy will with love.

Selection from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Book “Nature”: Essays “Discipline” and “Spirit,” Part 1 of 2

Selection from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Book “Nature”: Essays “Discipline” and “Spirit,” Part 1 of 2

In view of the significance of nature, we arrive at once at a new fact, that nature is a discipline. This use of the world includes the preceding uses, as parts of itself. Space, time, society, labor, climate, food, locomotion, the animals, the mechanical forces, give us sincerest lessons, day by day, whose meaning is unlimited. They educate both the Understanding and the Reason. Every property of matter is a school for the understanding, - its solidity or resistance, its inertia, its extension, its figure, its divisibility.

Global Spiritual Movement towards a Vegan Era of Peace and Collaboration: Interview with Rabbi David Rosen, Part 3 of 3

As our interview continues, Rabbi David Rosen speaks about how he approaches the Jewish community to encourage its members to rethink their diet. And then if they can understand, especially with regards to the animals specifically, but also with regards to environmental issues and the consequences of this, it’s possible to influence people to see this as wrong. And everybody can do something. And one doesn’t have to depend upon politicians to be able to make decisions. Everyone can contribute to making their environment a better place, above all, through serving others, especially the vulnerable and the needy; orphans, widows, homeless, people who need attention.

The Baha’i Faith’s ”Gems of Divine Mysteries”: Paragraphs 25-33

The Baha’i Faith’s ”Gems of Divine Mysteries”: Paragraphs 25-33

The essence of the divine mysteries in the journeys of ascent set forth for those who long to draw nigh unto God, the Almighty, the Ever-Forgiving – blessed be the righteous that drink from these crystal streams! HE IS THE EXALTED, THE MOST HIGH! Veiled as they remain within their own selves, the generality of the people have failed to perceive the sweet accents of holiness, inhale the fragrance of mercy, or seek guidance, as bidden by God, from those who are the custodians of the Scriptures. He proclaims, and His word, verily, is the truth: “Ask ye, therefore, of them that have custody of the Scriptures, if ye know it not.” Nay rather, they have turned aside from them and followed instead the Sámirí of their own idle fancies.

Teachings of Chuang Tzu: Chapter 13, The Heaven’s Tao, Part 2 of 4

Teachings of Chuang Tzu: Chapter 13, The Heaven’s Tao, Part 2 of 4

Today, we present to you an excerpt from Chapter 13, “Heavenly Tao” from the teachings Chuang Tzu. "The virtue of emperors and kings is to take the Heavens and the Earth as their Lord, to take Tao (the Way) and Te (morals) as their guiding principles, and to take non-action as their norm." "Those above must be without actions in order to use the world. Those below must take actions in order to be used by the world. This is the unchangeable principle." "'The virtue of emperors and kings corresponds with the Heavens and the Earth. 'This is the way to jump on the chariot of the Heavens and the Earth, harness all living things to it, and make use of the joint efforts of everyone." "In the transformations and growth of all things, every bud and feature has its proper form; and in this we have their gradual maturing and decay, the constant flow of transformation and change. Thus, since Heavens and Earth, which are most spirit-like, are distinguished as more honorable and less, and by precedence and sequence, how much more must we look for this in the way of men!

Fill Life with Love and Wonder, Part 1 of 3 May 18 , 1999, Bulgaria

And after contacting God, we find our lives full of miracles, and everything will happen like wonder; everything will be taken care of; everything will be so much in love, so much in harmony; and our souls will find such a peace that we have never known exists up to that moment. For that reason, since ancient times, many of our Saints and Sages have forsaken the whole world because the bliss inside of finding God satisfies Him or Her so much that They feel almost They don’t need anything else in this world. But that doesn’t mean that they cannot function in this world.

Poetic Essays from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran: ”The Coming of the Ship” and ”On Giving,” Part 2 of 2

Poetic Essays from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran: ”The Coming of the Ship” and ”On Giving,” Part 2 of 2

You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. For what are your possessions but things you keep and guard for fear you may need them tomorrow? And tomorrow, what shall tomorrow bring to the over prudent dog burying bones in the trackless sand as he follows the pilgrims to the holy city? And what is fear of need but need itself? Is not dread of thirst when your well is full, the thirst that is unquenchable?

Selection from “The Practice of the Presence of God: The Best Rule of Holy Life” by Brother Lawrence, Part 2 of 2

I believe you have taken such effectual measures, that you will not be surprised. I commend you for it, it is the one thing necessary: we must, nevertheless, always work at it, because not to advance, in the spiritual life, is to go back. But those who have the gale of the HOLY SPIRIT go forward even in sleep. If the vessel of our soul is still tossed with winds and storms, let us awake the LORD, who reposes in it, and He will quickly calm the sea.

From Buddhism’s Sacred Scripture: The Sutra of the Lotus of the Wonderful Dharma, Chapter 3, Part 7 of 8

If you and the others are capable of believing and accepting my words, then all of you are certain to attain the Buddha way. This vehicle is subtle, wonderful, foremost in purity; throughout all worlds it stands unsurpassed. “I tell you, Sariputra, you and the others are all my children, and I am a father to you. For repeated kalpas you have burned in the flames of manifold sufferings, but I will save you all and cause you to escape from the threefold world.” This Lotus Sutra is preached for those with profound wisdom.

From the Holy Bible: The Book of Isaiah, Excerpts from Chapters 60-66, Part 1 of 2

From the Holy Bible: The Book of Isaiah, Excerpts from Chapters 60-66, Part 1 of 2

Isaiah, son of Amoz, is one of the most celebrated ancient Jewish prophets, believed by scholars to have been a vegetarian. The book of Isaiah tells us that God will restore justice and righteousness to the people of Israel. The day of that judgment is called “the day of the Lord,” as God’s compassion will take the form of a new Messianic King. Christians believe that this refers to the coming of The Worshipped Lord Jesus Christ, and that through Christ’s suffering, humankind will fully receive salvation. Thus, the Lord’s new and righteous kingdom on Earth is the glorious ideal depicted in the book of Prophet Isaiah.

Fill Life with Love and Wonder: Questions and Answers, Part 3 of 3 May 18 , 1999, Bulgaria

There are two ways to avoid unpleasant outcomes: first, keep the Ten Commandments for the physical, and know God for the spiritual. If you know that God inside. Then, of course, Hes takes care of everything. And even if you have to go through some compensation, it will be minimized to the almost non-existent extent, or it might be like in a dream. There are dangers on the spiritual road as well as our worldly road. Therefore, we need a guide who has been traveling this road to lead us and to tell us where to avoid problems. If you follow all the instructions prescribed, we guarantee your safety back to the house of our Father.

From the Rosicrucian Order’s The Sanctuary of Self: on Mastership, Perfection, and Spirituality, Part 1 of 2

The Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, also known as the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC, is a worldwide cultural, educational, and philosophical organization that is perpetuating the profound and practical teachings of the Rosicrucians. Today, in honor of the birthday of the esteemed Harvey Spencer Lewis, who founded the Rosicrucian Order in 1915, we will present excerpts on “Mastership and Perfection” from the book “The Sanctuary of Self,” written by his son, Ralph M. Lewis. "Mastership is not only the ability to advocate a way or procedure by which something is to be done. It also consists of the personal power of accomplishment. …Mystic mastership or mastery of mysticism is therefore the finding of the God Power within oneself. Its practical application consists of learning the usage, to the fullest extent, of these powers and forces with which the Cosmic has endowed us."

Selection from Theosophy’s Sacred Teachings: “The Voice of the Silence,” Fragment II - The Two Paths, Part 2 of 2

Selection from Theosophy’s Sacred Teachings: “The Voice of the Silence,” Fragment II - The Two Paths, Part 2 of 2

Be humble, if thou would attain to Wisdom. Be humbler still, when Wisdom thou have mastered. Be like the Ocean which receives all streams and rivers. The Ocean’s might calm remains unmoved; it feels them not. Restrain by thy Divine thy lower Self. Restrain by the Eternal the Divine. Aye, great is he, who is the slayer of desire. Still greater he, in whom the Self Divine has slain the very knowledge of desire. Guard thou the Lower lest it soil the Higher. The way to final freedom is within thy “Self.” That way begins and ends outside of Self. Unpraised by men and humble is the mother of all Rivers, in Tirthika’s (Brahman ascetics) proud sight; empty the human form though filled with Amrita’s (immortality) sweet waters, in the sight of fools. In addition, the birth-place of the sacred rivers is the sacred land, and he who Wisdom has, is honored by all men.

Prayers and Meditations by Bahá’u’lláh: Sections VIII to XV, Part 1 of 2

Prayers and Meditations by Bahá’u’lláh: Sections VIII to XV, Part 1 of 2

The Bahá’i Faith rests on three core principles: unity of God, unity of religion, and unity of humankind. Prayers and Meditations by Bahá’u’lláh. "Magnified be Thy name, O Lord my God! I know not what the water is with which Thou hast created me, or what the fire Thou hast kindled within me, or the clay by which Thou hast kneaded me. The restlessness of every sea hath been stilled, but not the restlessness of this Ocean which moves at the bidding of the winds of Thy will. The flame of every fire hath been extinguished except the Flame which the hands of Thine omnipotence have kindled, and whose radiance Thou hast, by the power of Thy name, shed abroad before all that are in Thy heaven and all that are on Thy earth. As the tribulations deepen, it waxes hotter and hotter. Behold, then, O my God, how Thy Light hath been compassed with the onrushing winds of Thy decree, how the tempests that blow and beat upon it from every side have added to its brightness and increased its splendor. For all this let Thee be praised."

Love of Eternal Summer: Exploring the Spiritual Treasures in Shakespeare’s Works, Part 1 of 2

Known as Bard of Avon, William Shakespeare was one of the world’s greatest poets, playwrights, actors, and directors in the Renaissance era. Shakespeare’s lines have the magical effect of enlightening our minds to the truth that we know in our hearts. His beautiful and imaginative expressions give us insights into human life and its ephemeral nature. “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages. …Last scene of all, That ends this strange eventful history, Is second childishness and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.” More crucially, he shows us how with love, wisdom,, and humility, these obstacles can be prevailed over.

From Sikhism’s Holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib: Selection from Pages 69-72, Part 2 of 2

You may possess empires, vast estates, authority over others, and the enjoyment of myriads of pleasures; you may have delightful and beautiful gardens, and issue unquestioned commands; you may have enjoyments and entertainments of all sorts and kinds, and continue to enjoy exciting pleasures – and yet, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, you shall be reincarnated as a snake. You may possess vast riches, maintain virtuous conduct, have a spotless reputation and observe religious customs; you may have the loving affections of mother, father, children, siblings and friends; you may have armies well-equipped with weapons, and all may salute you with respect; but still, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, then you shall be taken and consigned to hell! You may have a body free of disease and deformity, and have no worries or grief at all; you may be unmindful of death, and night and day revel in pleasures; you may take everything as your own, and have no fear in your mind at all; but still, if you do not come to remember the Supreme Lord God, you shall fall under the power of the Messenger of Death.

Tao Te Ching – The Enlightened Way of Lao Tzu, Part 1 of 2

00:15:58

Tao Te Ching – The Enlightened Way of Lao Tzu, Part 1 of 2

Lao Tzu said that, “this kind of person will constantly retain the excellence of his nature all the time. He became the child again; free from all flaws, from all stains. This is a man, a woman, who has attained the Tao.” Yes, who has been enlightened. So with this essay, Lao Tzu wanted to tell His disciples how to act, how to behave, how to distinguish a person who has attained the Tao. He will look like this; very strong, very powerful, very wise, yet very simple, very humble, very ordinary. You don’t boast about it, because the man, after he attains enlightenment, for him, it’s simple like breathing. It’s very simple and natural to them anyway.

Prayers and Meditations by Bahá’u’lláh: Sections VIII to XV, Part 2 of 2

All praise be to Thee, O my God! Thou behold my helplessness and poverty, and bear witness unto my woes and trials. How long wilt Thou abandon me among Thy servants? Suffer me to ascend into Thy presence. The power of Thy might bears me witness! …I beseech Thee, O Thou Who art my Companion in my lowliness, to rain down upon Thy loved ones from the clouds of Thy mercy that which will cause them to be satisfied with Thy pleasure, and will enable them to turn unto Thee and to be detached from all else except Thee. …From everlasting Thou hast been clothed with transcendent greatness and power, with unspeakable majesty and glory. There is no God beside Thee, the Almighty, the All-Glorious, the Ever-Forgiving.

Perceive the Truth by Inner Wisdom: Questions and Answers, Part 4 of 5 April 21, 1993, Geneva, Switzerland

How can we use the knowledge that we have learned in the past life in this life? Well, the present time is more important than the past. If in the present life, we are enlightened, by a Master, the future is no more problem. And the past is also disconnected. Otherwise, we’d have so many lives on Earth, and so many past records, we can’t correct them all. What is Tao? “Tao” is like you say, the Kingdom of God, the Buddha nature, the great Self, the Wisdom.

The Six Enneads by Plotinus: The First Ennead, First Tractate - The Animate and the Man, Sections 1-5, Part 2 of 2

Now if there is a coalescence, the lower is ennobled, the nobler degraded; the body is raised in the scale of being as made participant in life; the Soul, as associated with death and unreason, is brought lower. All this is rather in the province of something which we may call the Animate. Now this Animate might be merely the body as having life: it might be the Union of Soul and body: it might be a third and different entity formed from both.
