An Experience in Cosmic Consciousness: Selections from Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda, Part 1 of 2

An Experience in Cosmic Consciousness: Selections from Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda, Part 1 of 2

Since its first publication in 1944, the book “Autobiography of a Yogi” has inspired countless Truth seekers around the world. In particular, it was through this book, originally written in English, that many Westerners were introduced to the teachings of meditation and Kriya Yoga. The autobiography contains the exceptional life story of the renowned Indian yogi and enlightened Master Paramahansa Yogananda, who was born in 1893. “What one does not trouble to find within will not be discovered by transporting the body hither and yon. As soon as the devotee is willing to go even to the ends of the earth for spiritual enlightenment, his guru appears nearby.” “An oceanic joy broke upon calm endless shores of my soul. The Spirit of God, I realized, is exhaustless Bliss; His body is countless tissues of light.”

It’s Not Too Late to Get Enlightenment, Questions and Answers, Part 4 of 5 Nov 26, 1994, Thailand

Because the real transmission doesn’t need language - and then you will be awakened. Your spiritual wisdom opens and you might see the (inner Heavenly) Light and hear the Self-Nature. Like the Buddha said, “Listen inward, listen to your Self-Nature.” Or, like in the Bible, it says, “the Word of God.” These Lights from Heaven or from Buddha’s Land and the melodious teaching from Heaven or from Buddha’s Land, it is our own Self-Nature, and that will make us wiser and freer each day. And then, more and more we will rely on our Self-Nature and our Self Master inside, and the outside Master is only standing by and helping.

An Experience in Cosmic Consciousness: Selections from Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda, Part 2 of 2

"The cosmic vision left many permanent lessons. By daily stilling my thoughts, I could win release from the delusive conviction that my body was a mass of flesh and bones, traversing the hard soil of matter. The breath and the restless mind, I saw, were like storms which lashed the ocean of light into waves of material forms - earth, sky, human beings, animals, birds, trees. No perception of the Infinite as One Light could be had except by calming those storms. As often as I silenced the two natural tumults, I beheld the multitudinous waves of creation melt into one lucent sea, even as the waves of the ocean, their tempests subsiding, serenely dissolve into unity." "For months I entered the ecstatic union, comprehending why the Upanishads (Vedic scriptures) say 'God is rasa,' 'the most relishable.'"

Selection from the Holy Kitab-I-Aqdas of the Baha’i Faith: Paragraphs 112-150, Part 2 of 2

Let none, in this Day, hold fast to anything save that which hath been manifested in this Revelation. Such is the admonition of the Lord, before and hereafter—an admonition. Naught shall avail you in this Day but God, nor is there any refuge to flee to save Him. Wish not for others what ye wish not for yourselves. “Lay not upon your souls that which will weary them and weigh them down, but rather what will lighten and uplift them, so that they may soar on the wings on the Divine verses towards the Dawning-place of His manifest signs; this will draw you nearer to God, did ye but comprehend.”

Selection from the Holy Kitab-I-Aqdas of the Baha’i Faith: Paragraphs 112-150, Part 1 of 2

Say: Blessed is he who, at the hour of dawn, centering his thoughts on God, occupied with His remembrance, and supplicating His forgiveness, directeth his steps to the Mashriqu’l-Adhkár, and entering therein, seateth himself silence to listen to the verses of God, the Sovereign, the Mighty, the All-Praised. These verses draw hearts that are pure unto those spiritual worlds that can neither be expressed in words nor intimated by allusion. The liberty that profiteth you is to be found nowhere except in complete servitude unto God, the Eternal Truth.

“The Three Questions” - An Inspirational Short Story by Leo Tolstoy, Part 2 of 2

The king was happy to be so easily reconciled with his enemy, and he not only forgave him but promised to return his property and send his own physician and servants to attend him. “Remember then: there is only one important time – now. And it is important because it is the only time we have dominion over ourselves; and the most important man is he with whom you are, for no one can know whether or not he will ever have dealings with any other man; and the most important pursuit is to do good to him, since it is for that purpose alone that man was sent into this life.”

Song of Realization by Tsongkhapa, Part 1 of 2

Song of Realization by Tsongkhapa, Part 1 of 2

The venerated enlightened Master Tsongkhapa was a religious philosopher and the founder of the Gelug School, meaning the Virtuous Order. Master Tsongkhapa studied the scriptures very thoroughly. After a long period of diligent learning, He wrote many famous works and was determined to revive the original goals and disciplines of Tibetan Buddhism. Strictly emphasizing a pure moral conduct for His disciples, Master Tsongkhapa stated that monks should refrain from killing life and drinking wine. Today we would like to share with you excerpts from "Song of Realization," an autobiography by the Venerated Master Tsongkhapa describing His own spiritual studies and practice. "When one's efforts still are slight, It is said to be best to congratulate others' virtues. In order to gather the momentous stores (of merit and wisdom). And one feels an even greater joy, especially, When free of claims to one's own past virtues, Thinking ‘increase past virtues ever more,’ In order to live up to the impact of the Victor's teaching, Also seeing many other dire necessities - It is excellent, O my mind, When you feel such joy!"

As long as we’re in the material world, every material thing affects us. That’s why we must take care to eat pure foods, foods that have less karmic burden, that have less suffering for our own sake. There are differences between people, not only between Master and disciples. Therefore, I’ve taught you to be frugal, not to be greedy and exceed your share. Do not spend more than you have. When it’s necessary, you can take and use. When it’s not, try not to. Otherwise we might get in trouble. Sometimes we might get sick, or get an incurable disease.

Always try to stay positive. Say positive things and do positive things as much as you can. Protect yourself, and then you create a wonderful house, a movable house, so that everywhere you go, you take Light, good energy, good vibrations. When we’re in the “winter of spiritual cultivation,” even if we make mistakes, regress in our practice, or lose faith, we should just forgive ourselves. If possible, we should quickly get some “tonics”! For example, we can attend retreats, go to see Master and meet initiates more often, go to group meditation more, read more of Master’s books or listen to Her tapes and so on.

Create a Permanent Heaven for Yourself and Later Generations , Part 1 of 4 March 3, 1992 , Singapore

We should generate always goodness, in thoughts, in deeds, and in speech in order to derive the goodness that we have sown. And the more we step into goodness, the nearer to goodness, the more we are merged into this Heavenly quality, the more we are near to Heaven. I think we can take the opportunity of our civilized communication system to broadcast what we know, to each other, in order to profit each other, in order to elevate our Earth’s mental consciousness into a higher level of understanding, in order to make our Earth into a Heaven. We have no need to immigrate into another planet or to Nirvana (the highest paradise) if we make our world become a paradise.

Poems by Rumi: ”Here I Am” and ”Tales of the Reed Pipe”

Poems by Rumi: ”Here I Am” and ”Tales of the Reed Pipe”

The lament of the reed-flute is a symbol of the soul’s sorrow at being parted from the Diving Beloved. Listen to this reed, how it makes complaint, telling a tale of separation; I want a breast torn asunder by severance, so that I may fully declare the agony of yearning. Everyone who is sundered far from his origin longs to recapture the time when he was reunited with it. In every company I have poured forth my lament, I have consorted alike with the miserable and the happy. My secret indeed is not remote from my lament, but eye and ear lack the light to perceive it. Only the senseless is intimate with the mysteries of this Sense.

Perceive the Truth by Inner Wisdom, Part 1 of 5 April 21, 1993, Geneva, Switzerland

After we reach the Truth inside, we have both virtues and beauty. All that we like to cultivate for a great gentleman, we will find after we realize the Truth. And it’s nothing that we could describe about the Truth, except when we perceive it, we will be changed into oneness with this Truth. And then we will be living a life of Truth, beauty and virtue. The life of Jesus, the life of Buddha, the life of Lao Tzu and all the other great Masters since ancient times. Because within us, there is the Kingdom of God, there is God Hirmself, because God has made man in Hiers own image. Therefore, we have the almighty power.

The Only Criminal is Ignorance: Questions and Answers, Part 3 of 3 May 28, 1999, Prague, Czech Republic

The purpose of life is to know God. Ignorance is the only thing to be blamed for all these bad things that happen to us. Ignorance, not knowing God, that’s the only criminal in this world and any other world. Because if we are enlightened, if we know God, we will be so happy, so blissful that we could never do anything wrong, or very less likely to do things wrong because we are enlightened, we are wise, we know what’s right and what’s wrong. So the best thing I can offer you is enlightenment, more than gold, more than diamonds, more than anything that is so-called best in this world.

The Universal Prayer – A Poem by Victor Hugo

The Universal Prayer – A Poem by Victor Hugo

Oh, day! with toil, with wrong, with hatred rife; Oh, blessed night! with sober calmness sweet, The sad winds moaning through the ruined tower, The age-worn peasant, the sheep’s sad broken bleat – All nature groans oppressed with toil and care, And wearied craves for rest, and love, and prayer. At eve the babes with angels converse hold, While we to our strange pleasures make our way, Each with its little face upraised to heaven, With folded hands, barefoot kneels down to pray, At selfsame hour with selfsame words they call On God, the common Father of them all.

It’s Not Too Late to Get Enlightenment, Part 2 of 5 Nov 26, 1994, Thailand

Spiritual practice concerns the mind, not the body. After the mind is controlled, the body is controlled. That’s why we do not emphasize to people that they have to practice the position first, but we emphasize that we will give you the extra controlling power, so that at the beginning of your practice you can immediately calm your mind and have an immediate result of enlightenment. We help you to unlock your controlling power from the highest source of the Buddha Nature, or what we call the Kingdom of God in different religions. The secret is we know the way. If we don’t know the secret, it doesn’t matter how hard we try, how sincere we are, we will not have results, as we wanted.

The Nearness of the Kingdom: Selections from Meister Eckhart’s Sermons, Part 1 of 2

The Nearness of the Kingdom: Selections from Meister Eckhart’s Sermons, Part 1 of 2

Eckhart von Hochheim, widely known as Meister Eckhart, was a German theologian, philosopher, and mystic who lived in the late 13th and early 14th centuries. Today we present selections from the venerated Meister Eckhart’s sermons, through which we will realize how precious it is to find God within us. "I have a capacity in my soul for taking in God entirely. I am as sure as I live that nothing is so near to me as God. God is nearer to me than I am to myself; my existence depends on the nearness and presence of God. He is also near things of wood and stone, but they know it not.…For this reason man is happier than the inanimate wood, because he knows and understands how God is near him. His happiness increases and diminishes in proportion to the increase and diminution in his knowledge of this. His happiness does not arise from this that God is near him, and in him, and that he possesses God; but from this, that he knows the nearness of God, and loves Him, and is aware that 'the Kingdom of God is near.'"

Where Does the Inner Peace Come From? Part 1 of 3 (Reair WOW 174 1217-1219) November 11, 1989, Brazil

Whether we are Buddhist or Christian, we could find the higher power, within ourselves. When we sit quietly in silence, there will be a lot of information, blessing, love, energies, pouring into our being. We will feel different after meditation. And the longer the period, and the longer we meditate, the wiser, the more peaceful we become. This is how the world will become peaceful, because peace begins with each and every individual. If everyone is peaceful, the world has no war, no conflict. Peace will be made when we are peaceful inside.

Song of Realization by Tsongkhapa, Part 2 of 2

The teachings of Tibetan Buddhism focus on an awareness of death and the ephemeral nature of life, leading to diligence in meditation and spiritual practice. We now continue with excerpts from “Song of Realization,” an autobiography by the Venerated Master Tsongkhapa describing His own spiritual studies and practice. “With a firm, intense, and enduring faith in Manjusri, Best at banishing the darkness from the disciple’s mind, I prayed that all the teachings might dawn as training, And I applied myself to all the requisite conditions. Thinking this over, how well my destiny was fulfilled! Thank you so much, O Holy Wisdom Treasure! Working in that way, I found a special certainty In the stages of the path of enlightenment, The tradition descended from Nagarjuna and Asanga, And the Transcendent Wisdom, best book on the profound, Dawned as a practical training. …In order to extend enormously my own virtue, And to show the entrance without error in a way appropriate To the many fortunate persons of clear discernment, I wrote this record of my education. By the mass of virtues thus attained, May all beings, through this same procedure, Maintain the unexcelled discipline of the Buddha, And enter the path that pleases all the Victors!”

Where Does the Inner Peace Come From? Part 2 of 3 November 11, 1989, Brazil

If you want peace and love and Heaven within, you should devote your time one or two hours every day, so that you know the Heaven inside. You stay at your house and meditate – enjoy the peace and bliss within yourself. The same as we have to save some time, reserve some time to enjoy the food and enjoy the drink. We must save some time to enjoy the bread and water of life – heavenly bread. So, meditation is just to reserve some time to enjoy God’s blessing. The more we enjoy God’s blessing, the smoother our lives, the more healthy our mentality, the more intelligent we become.

From the Nag Hammadi Holy Scriptures: Selection from the Gospel of Truth, Part 1 of 2

So that whoever has acquaintance is from Above: and if called, hears, replies, and turns to the One who is calling; and goes to Him. And he knows how that One is called. Having acquaintance, that person does the will of the One who has called; wishes to please Him; and gains repose. One’s name becomes one’s own. Those who gain acquaintance in this way know from where they have come and to where they will go; they know in the manner of man who, after having been intoxicated, has recovered from his intoxication, having returned into Himself.
