Living in a Mindful Universe: Interview with Dr. Eben Alexander & Ms. Karen Newell, Part 2 of 4

Living in a Mindful Universe: Interview with Dr. Eben Alexander & Ms. Karen Newell, Part 2 of 4

And the best analogy I can use is like on the oscillating edge of a black hole, where you oscillate between just the pure oneness of the divine, infinite loving force of the core of the universe, and the first separation from that oneness into the many different layers all the way down into the material world. What they really come back telling us is that we are here to love each other. We are here to take care of the least, the last, and the lost, and not to compete of resources, but in fact to manifest that love for others, showing kindness and compassion.

The Way of the White Clouds: A Devout Monk’s Amazing Spiritual Journey, Part 2 of 2

Published in 1966, “The Way of the White Clouds” was written by Lama Anagarika Govinda, a German wisdom seeker. In his book, Lama Govinda documents his pilgrimage through the remotest parts of Tibet 1930s and 40s, taking photographs and creating drawings. He beautifully recounts the Tibetan scenery and describes local communities as they had existed for hundreds of years. With a travel, adventure dialogue, Lama Govinda also contemplates some of life’s greatest questions, discussing, in a very enlightened way, some very complex Tibetan Buddhist practices. Lama Anagarika Govinda met many teachers and finally found his Guru Domo Geshe Rinpoche.

The Way of the White Clouds: A Devout Monk’s Amazing Spiritual Journey, Part 1 of 2

When Lama Govinda met Domo Geshe Rinpoche, the lightest touch of Guru’s hands on his head, sent a stream of bliss through his whole being. Simply to be in His presence, was enough to solve all problems, just as darkness disappears in the presence of light. The Guru told him: “If you wish me to be your Guru, do not look upon my person as the Guru, because every human personality has its shortcomings, and so long as we are engaged in observing the imperfections of others, we deprive ourselves of the opportunities of learning from them.”

Discover “Inside of a Dog”: From a Dog’s Point of View

While humans tend to perceive the world through our eyes, dogs rely on their extraordinaty sense of smell. Dr. Horowitz writes: "As we see the world, a dog smells it. The dog's universe is a fascinating place of odors, one on top of the other. The world of scents is as rich a place as the world of sights. "Dogs don't act on the world by handling objects or by eyeballing them, as people might, or by pointing and asking others to act on the object (as the timid might); instead, they bravely stride right up to a new, unknown object, stretch their magnificent snouts within millimeters of it, and take a nice deep sniff."

Interview with Brian Richter, Author of ”Chasing Water: A Guide for Moving from Scarcity to Sustainability,” Part 3 of 3

In parts 1 and 2 of our program, Brian Richter explained the urgency of the world’s water shortages, and shared some tips. The production of food is the most water-intensive water use on the planet. Vegetables and fruits and that sort of thing, generally they require a lot less water than other food choices. In answer to a question at the “Save Our Earth Conference 2009” in Korea, Supreme Master Ching Hai highlighted that the adoption of a vegan diet would not only ensure the conservation of water within a nation, but also allow countries to share resources with one another.

Interview with Brian Richter, Author of ”Chasing Water: A Guide for Moving from Scarcity to Sustainability,” Part 2 of 3

What most people don’t think about is our indirect needs for water. For instance, for our food that we consume, it requires water to produce that food. Even though our food may not be produced locally, it is requiring water somewhere. So, when you add up all of the different parts of our personal water footprints, our daily water requirements, it turns out that food is at least two-thirds of our overall water footprints, we call it virtual water, and we’re not directly using it, so we don’t think about it as much. Each of us in our daily lives needs to become very water aware, and really understand how much water we’re using for different things, where that water comes from, so that we can all become better informed citizens about that.

Interview with Clare Mann, Author of “Vystopia: The Anguish of Being Vegan in a Non-Vegan World,” Part 2 of 2

Some of the biggest challenges for a vegan is when their partners or their family won’t become vegan. It’s ofen very difficult to communicate these issues with your family. It’s taken within a context, a social context. And so when you start turning down traditional meals or things that have bound the family together, there’s a resistance, often, to that. And so, choose your battles. We’re selling a solution to people that don’t even know that they’ve got a problem. It’s going to solve our major ills of the world. Our social, our economic, our enviromental, our spiritual issues.
