Buddhist Stories: The Merit of Charity and Keeping The Five Precepts & Brahma Asks for Dharma, Part 2 of 10, Aug. 03, 2015

“And after that, after taking refuge in the Three Jewels, he took out one golden coin and gave it to the Buddha, offered it to the Buddha. Because of that, so life after life, his merit is immeasurable. In this world not many people can compare to him, in richness and merit and health and all the good things as he has. Ananda, that rich person at that time, now is Trùng Tín, monk, Bhiksu.” Bhiksu means a high monk already. Sramanera means lower monk, just novice. So, he’s already Bhiksu, meaning high monk, high priest. “From then on, from that time until now Trùng Tín has enjoyed richness and honor for ninety-one eons.”

Buddhist Stories: The Merit of Charity and Keeping The Five Precepts & Brahma Asks for Dharma, Part 3 of 10, Aug. 03, 2015

“I prostrate to You, World Honored One, just now I received Your thought that all beings on this planet are so difficult to teach, and then You want to enter Nirvana. Because of that, I came here and beg You to stay on this planet to give the teaching to all beings.” “So that the light of the Truth will spread all over the world as well as in Heaven, so all beings will bathe in Your merit and Your blessing and then they will be liberated from life and death, and from the lower birth of animals, or devils, ghosts, hungry ghosts and in hell, etc. etc. And they will be peaceful in Buddha’s Land. Please be compassionate and open Your mercy to accept my request.”

Buddhist Stories: The Merit of Charity and Keeping The Five Precepts & Brahma Asks for Dharma, Part 4 of 10, Aug. 03, 2015

Brahma god, the god of the Third World, the highest level in the Third, in our physical spiritual dimension. Lower, physical spiritual dimension, even Brahma came and begged the Buddha, the enlightened Master to teach, to enlighten him and all his heavenly beings, not just the humans, not just this physical level. Because Brahma also one day kaput; when his time’s gone, his world also will be dissolved just like our planet one time, or not. You see? So, he came and begged the Buddha.

Buddhist Stories: The Merit of Charity and Keeping The Five Precepts & Brahma Asks for Dharma, Part 5 of 10, Aug. 03, 2015

One day the king sat on his throne and was thinking thus: “Concerning physical comfort and material satisfaction, one day it will disappear. Any material things will disappear or kaput. It’s not a lasting happiness. So, I would like for myself and all beings to have lasting bliss and happiness. Then I really have to go and find an enlightened master to teach me the Truth. Otherwise, it won’t work.”And the Brahmin said, “If you want to hear the teaching, the true teaching, then you have to bore 1,000 holes on your body.”And the Brahmin said, “If you want to hear the teaching, the true teaching, then you have to bore 1,000 holes on your body.”

"If being born, then will die." What a truth for 1,000 holes in the body. And then after the king heard already, he told them to copy and then give to people and he asked his subordinate to light the lamp on his body. When the flames came up very high all over his body, his face was still very pacified. He didn’t complain. He just was as normal. He didn’t change his attitude or appearance. And then he vowed, he said in front of everyone, “I have suffered like this for the Truth, to request the Truth. I vow to use this merit for the Buddhahood. After I become a Buddha, I will use this bright wisdom to destroy all the darkness in this world for all beings to benefit.”

Buddhist Stories: The Merit of Charity and Keeping The Five Precepts & Brahma Asks for Dharma, Part 7 of 10, Aug. 03, 2015

So all of these lives and the body has been reborn and died, reborn and died, it was a waste, waste of time, waste of a body. It has not been offered to seek the Truth, to attain enlightenment. Therefore, all these bodies have been such a waste. So, this time I want to nail my body to offer to the master to search for Buddhahood. So at this time, I do this to offer my body in order to become Buddha. To use this merit toward Buddhahood. So do not stop me because I do this also for you, for all of you. When I become Buddha, I will liberate you first, enlighten you first. This is a very great merit. It’s a very great cause. So do not try to deter me.

Buddhist Stories: The Merit of Charity and Keeping The Five Precepts & Brahma Asks for Dharma, Part 8 of 10, Aug. 03, 2015

Because sacrificing money or wife or children is not as difficult as sacrificing your own body and suffering slowly like that, not like a quick death. So, the Brahma wanted to remind the Buddha of the reason why He wanted to become Buddha, and so much sacrifice He had done. So now He attained Buddhahood, He should not have forgotten what He wanted to do, liberate other beings, even though it’s difficult. Yes, so at least He should try. And the Brahma saw that there are some numbers of beings who are ready for this teaching, can be taught, and can be saved, so please don’t look at others, the ignorant group, but teach these who are ready to hear; so he kept repeating the sacrifice of Buddha.

“I sacrifice this body thus, because I want to have this happiness, lasting happiness and bliss for myself and for all others.” So he jumped into the fire, and then all the heavens and earth trembled again and everybody was so touched. And at the time that everyone was so sorrowful and frightened, suddenly the whole fire turned into a lotus pond. All the beautiful fragrance came and came into people’s noses, and they were happy, happy. Even the Sakra god and the Brahma god had to praise the prince. “At that time, it’s because of love for all beings that You sacrificed thus. Now You have attained the great Buddhahood, please stay and teach all beings.”

That’s why we have to protect the environment because it protects us. All the trees, they don’t say anything. But they quietly radiate their peacefulness. And the oxygen from them is helping us to calm our minds. Imagine if you don’t have enough oxygen? I don’t know, I just, scientifically speaking it’s like that. But before I knew all the scientific research, I already feel that trees are good for me. I just feel good, being under them. Even my dogs, they try to find a tree to scratch a little their neck or something or lay under the tree. It’s cooler, and it just feels peaceful.

The Surangama Sutra: The Demonic States of the Thinking Skandhas, Part 1 of 8, Dec. 28, 2018

You can see many different religious orders, people copy the Masters and do all kinds of rituals and all kinds of ways, just to entrap people in there and make them busy with just rituals; useless, all kinds of useless things, wasting their time and obstructing them from finding the real Master, to be liberated. The reason He tells all this, we also have to thank the Reverend Bodhisattva, high-soul Ananda also. Many things the Buddha taught because Ananda asked. So, he had great compassion also. If Ananda had not asked, we would not have all this. Maybe Buddha did not think about it. And if Ananda had not asked on behalf of the mother of Buddha, then we would not have any nuns, Buddhist nuns, nowadays.

Don’t worship anyone except God. Even if you don’t find any Master, if you don’t believe me, just worship God only. God Almighty only, or Buddha; I mean truly Buddha, in your heart. You just ask for the true Buddha to worship, maybe Shakyamuni Buddha, Amitabha Buddha,or God Almighty, or Jesus, in your heart. You hold on to that. If you ever doubt me, or got out of here, or got out of my circle, believe in God, believe in Buddha. Don’t go worship any lower god or even gods from heaven. They might mislead you and you’ll be in trouble.

“You should be aware of this,” in advance and not get caught up in the cycle of transmigration. It's better than pushing it. Because if you are so greedy in such a way, or so fanatically seek for union with God when you are not ready, then “demon from the heavens seizes the opportunity it has been waiting for. Its spirit possesses another person and uses him as a mouthpiece” to come to you explaining, “lf you follow me, you will get union with God,” etc. Same like if any Master would tell you. The Maya tries many ways to enchant you, to make you stray away from your noble high purpose.

If the Buddha were to use that, then He’d have subdued all, the whole world already, no need for anybody else to come behind Him. You see, that’s the difference between a Buddha and a demon. The demon, he uses power just to control people. The Buddha, He had to use reason. If He used His power at all, it was because that person needed it, maybe needed to heal at that time, needed to be awakened from some trouble, like Ananda for example, and to use it to help His disciples in time of need. Otherwise, if the Buddha had used all His power just to bless this person, control that person, then the whole India at that time would’ve knelt at His feet already.

Rotten ghost and has so much power. I feel ashamed as a human. He’s just a rotten ghost and he has so much power to sway people’s minds and cheating them into believing in him that much. And we’re so powerless. We’re supposed to be God and Buddha. How come we have no power? Imagine that? That’s the price to come into this physical body; that’s the price to pay. You have come here for some reason and you also had to make a contract before you came; you have made a contract. Maybe also intended to do good, but then, when we come down here, they make us forget everything; forget and just go with the flow.

So, precepts are the basement, are the foundation of our spiritual progress. Don’t forget. If somebody preaches to you against all the precepts, against all the moral standards, and says “everything is illusion anyway, you do what you want, there’s no sin,” then you must know it’s wrong, and that person is possessed. Stay away quick. Don’t try to convert him; you can’t. You might not be strong enough; you will fall instead. If you happen to feel like you’re possessed or maybe fell into some bad influence, call the Master to help you. Recite the Five Holy Names, recite the Gift, call the Master if you’re helpless; it’s safer that way.

It’s so difficult to discern between a ghost and a Buddha or a Saint, because the Saint, normally, They don’t even use any power, don’t predict much. Even just to want to know past lives, you’ll be in trouble too. There was one Master in Korea a long time ago, He didn’t teach much to his disciples. He said, "Whatever happens or turbulence goes into your mind, you just say, ’Don’t know.’ " He wanted to break all of the trains of thought of his disciples, which was also maybe helpful. But don’t just “don’t know” anything, all right? You know you should be good, keep the precepts, meditate, eat vegan.

I said our road sometimes has maybe a little pebble on the road, or some little tree, fallen down, but we just move it and then we continue going. Because we want to reach our Home. Same, same when we practice, a little obstruction, no problem. Continue. Everything is good. We have to keep the positive mind, and everything will be better. Always remember Buddha, God, blessing from Heavens, then everything will be OK. Heaven is touched by your sincerity even. Heaven and Earth know your purity and good heart. And I’m also very, very touched, and appreciative of your dedication to the noble goal, the best goal, the only goal that’s important in your life, practicing.

Buddhist Stories: Brahma Asks for Dharma, Part 1 of 4 Aug. 04, 2015

Because the Brahma King knew very well that Buddha really did not want to stay on this planet. The beings here were so stubborn, so covered with ignorance and wrong concepts, so very difficult to teach. So, He just looked around in the whole world and feeling that it was a waste of time so He wanted to go, truly go to Nirvana. So after the Brahma God came down and begged Him to stay already, He still said the same thing. Remember? So, the Brahma continued to persist, persist. “Remember, remember, remember You did that. Remember You did this, just for one stanza, just for one sentence of Truth. And now You’ve already attained Buddhahood, why do You want to leave? Why You don’t remember why You sacrificed?” So, he kept continuing telling similar stories.

Once you’re born, you forget. Even though if you were a god, when you’re born, you’re completely blind, deaf and dumb. You won’t remember anything at all in the past life. Therefore, you might do wrong and then the situations in the world will push you to commit some bad deeds. And then your status will be lower and lower, and then you might even go to a lower level, like bad animals. And then from then even go lower and maybe go to hell etc., etc., and never get liberation or be born in Heaven again. That’s why he was very worried. He was a god, he should know. He should know all these consequences, because once we’re born, we forget.

But the Buddha has never blamed the Sakra god or anyone who comes and ask for His suffering because He knows that will help Him to clean up whatever residue of karma and further push Him towards Buddhahood. These are helpers. The same with Devadatta; He has never blamed him, He has never hated him. His cousin who always tried to harm Him, life after life. But He has never blamed him. There are good and bad forces: good police, bad police; good guy, bad guy. And anything that tests our endurance is helping us to strengthen our spiritual endeavor, strengthen our faith in ourselves, make us more strong, more courageous.
