During a 2019 lecture in Taiwan, also known as Formosa, our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) expounded on the profound power and benefits of Quan Yin Bodhisattva’s practice, the Quan Yin Method, in English and Chinese. “The Quan Shi Yin Bodhisattva arose from His seat, bowed at the Buddha’s feet, and said to the Buddha: ‘World-Honored One, I remembered when, as many kalpas [ago] as there are (Sands.) sands in the Ganges River…’” […] “‘…there was a Buddha in the world named Contemplating the World’s Sounds.’” The Sounds of the world – Sounds, many Sounds. “‘It was under that Buddha that I brought forth the Bodhi-resolve.’” Means She decided She wanted to attain Bodhi, to attain enlightenment, attain Buddhahood, Bodhi wisdom. “‘That Buddha taught me to enter samadhi through a process of hearing and reflecting. Initially, I entered the flow through hearing and forgot objective states. Since the sense-objects and sense-organs were quiet, the two characteristics of movement and stillness crystallized and did not arise. After that, gradually advancing, the hearing and what was heard both disappeared. Once the hearing was ended, there was nothing to rely on, and awareness and the objects of awareness became empty. When the emptiness of awareness reached an ultimate perfection, emptiness and what was being emptied then also ceased to be. Since production and extinction were gone, still extinction was revealed.’” Still, tranquil. “‘Suddenly I transcended the mundane and transcendental worlds, and throughout the ten directions a perfect brightness prevailed. I obtained two supreme states. First, I was united above with the fundamental, wonderfully enlightened mind of all the Buddhas of the ten directions, and I gained a strength of compassion equal to that of all the Buddhas, the Thus Come Ones.’” Wow, incredible, through hearing only! “Contemplating the World’s Sounds” doesn’t mean the worldly sounds. Because in the Diamond Sutra, the Buddha also reminds the practitioners that if you rely on sounds or forms to reach enlightenment, then you will never see Buddha. He means the normal light, normal sound here; and the form, meaning maybe just rely on the Buddha’s form, the statues, something like that; or chanting or whatever that makes noise. You won’t be able to attain Buddhahood. […] So, that’s not the sound that we hear normally. […] Therefore, She had all the compassion, the strength of compassion equal to that of all the Buddhas. At that time, She became One, She lost Herself already, He lost Himself, lost the ego self. That was the first power that Quan Yin Bodhisattva gained through the Hearing Method. […] During a 2019 lecture in Taiwan, also known as Formosa, our Most Gracious Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) explained that Quan Yin Bodhisattva contemplates both the cries of the world and the subtle inner Heavenly Sounds. If somebody was in trouble, asking for help, then She meditates for that person. She meditates, She contemplates on the (inner Heavenly) Sound, so that She has power to help that person or whoever that being is. “I can enable living beings throughout the ten directions who are suffering and in distress to attain liberation by contemplating their sounds.” She contemplates their energy, their vibration levels. Then accordingly, She will match Her level during contemplation with that level, in order to appear in their like, so that She can help that being. So, She contemplates both the (inner) Heavenly Sound, the primordial original, and the sound of the being who needs help. In an inner vision, a member of our Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association (all vegans) received a fascinating insight about Quan Yin Bodhisattva: Once, I had an inner vision of Quan Yin Bodhisattva dressed in white attire, with a long white veil flowing gently behind. She was kind, graceful, and as beautiful as a painting – a vision I could never forget. After receiving initiation, I realized that this was a manifestation of You, Master. Later, by chance, I received a picture depicting You dressed in white with a long white veil, exactly as in my inner vision. May all hearts open to greater kindness, inspired by the selfless compassion of Quan Yin Bodhisattva, our Most Compassionate Master, Whose wish is for all beings to attain enlightenment and liberation.
