American man Daniel Berdichevsky shares his near-death experience in which he saw Earth’s protective shield and learned the truth about time.
When he was 19, Daniel suffered from mysterious health issues— high blood pressure, a racing heartbeat, and constant fatigue. Despite extensive testing, no doctor could find a cause. Medications helped briefly, then stopped working. His mother, a devout Russian Orthodox Christian, decided to take him to a monastery on the California-Oregon [US] state border, hoping prayer would heal him.
On the second or third day, Daniel felt especially weak and went to lie down in a small room. Still fully awake and staring at the ceiling, he suddenly felt himself crawling out of his chest. He heard his heartbeat slow, then stop. At that moment, he found himself on the ceiling, looking down at his own body.
Everything felt more real than ordinary life—solid, lucid, and calm. At first, Daniel didn’t even recognize the body on the bed as his own. He had a body made of light; he could move his arms and legs, yet they weren’t physical. He saw in every direction at once—360 degrees— and could see through walls.
Through the wall, he noticed monks praying in the church next door. He heard their prayers and felt their deep emotions— their genuine efforts to connect with God, with pure hearts and intentions. He felt appreciative of their sincerity. Then, as Daniel looked again at his body below, realization struck— that’s me. The instant that awareness came, he was pulled upward at incredible speed, as if vacuumed through the roof and into the sky.
He rose high above Northern California, viewing forests and distant wildfires. His attention shifted to a city he recognized as San Francisco. He projected his awareness like tendrils or neurons, attaching to one person then splitting to hundreds. He knew their every feeling— what they sensed, their anxiety, pain, joy, and more. It felt cohesive and beautiful, like an organism where each person was an individual cell in a collective unit. He did this for what seemed a long time.
Then Daniel rose further, high above Earth. From space, the planet shimmered. He thought it was beautiful and alive—a living, sentient being, not a mere rock. But its breathing was labored, as if the Earth were in pain. A web-like, crystalline mesh surrounded it—both good and not good, necessary yet troubling. He felt concern for the planet’s suffering.
Moving farther into space, Daniel saw the Milky Way glowing with vivid colors, resembling Hubble telescope images but more radiant and alive. Farther out, the entire Universe unfolded before him. Then came a shift— a golden Light appeared, brilliant and alive, humming like Music. Golden sparkles surrounded him, and he was enveloped in a mist of glowing energy that felt like home.
Daniel’s sense of having a body dissolved. He became a dark blue orb of conscious energy— vibrant, pure, electric, and free. Earthly life suddenly seemed minuscule, like dipping a toe in water briefly, not swimming for days. The love from the golden Light was overwhelming— total, unconditional, eternal. Daniel knew with absolute certainty that nothing he had done or would ever do could change that love.
Within this golden realm, another blue orb appeared— a being he instantly recognized, as though they had known each other forever. Around them floated many other souls of various colors—yellow, white, pink, velvet red— radiant and joyful, childlike and free. The atmosphere was one of perfect playfulness and bliss.
Then Daniel observed a gigantic Wheel of Time. It was the Earth itself, but also a multidimensional reel showing all events— past, present, and future— happening simultaneously. Time wasn’t linear; every moment coexisted in one eternal present. He could distinguish what seemed to be ancient history— the Roman Empire, chariots, the British Isles under kings and kingdoms— and felt amused at how seriously people took their fleeting importance. He realized how tiny human glory really is.
He also glimpsed future events, but those memories vanished after his return. Still, he knew that time, as he saw it, was eternal and cyclical— everything that ever was or will be already exists in one unified whole.
Returning to the golden Light, he sensed it communicating with him, by both voice and thought combined. He was told he could not stay. Heartbroken, Daniel resisted, but the Light gently sent him back.
Daniel moved backward through everything he had seen— the galaxies, Earth, city, and monastery— and slammed back into his body, gasping heavily for air as if he had not breathed for 10 minutes. His chest felt agonizing pain. Dizzy, he stood up, walked around, and looked in a mirror. His face was pale as a ghost, with dark circles under his eyes.
Days later, Daniel was healed: his blood pressure was normal, the mysterious heart problems were gone, and the vivid memories of the other side and the overwhelming love he experienced stayed with him (The Other Side NDE)
