The SHEICO Group has donated 150 tablet computers to children affected by the La Soufrière volcanic eruption, which caused school closures for an extended period. The Vincentian Education Ministry has organized online classes, but participation has been low due to a lack of digital devices. The tablets will allow more children to continue learning online. The La Soufrière volcano has erupted 32 times since April 2021, disrupting the lives of over 20,000 people. In a hand-over ceremony, the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Ambassador to Taiwan, Her Excellency Andrea Bowman, and SHEICO Group President Min Shiue reaffirmed the 40 years of friendship between the Taiwanese (Formosans) and Vincentians. Scientists complete comprehensive scan of Uranus to understand its auroras.
Researchers from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom have succeeded in creating the first-ever complete infrared map of Uranus. Using the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)’s Infrared Telescope in Hawaii, United States, the team observed Uranus for three days to understand its beautiful auroras or polar lights caused by the sun’s solar winds. Uranus’ auroras behave very differently from the auroras on Earth, because the geographical and magnetic poles of the two planets are very contrasting. This significant mapping accomplishment will assist scientists in comprehending the solar wind’s interaction with the magnetosphere of the planet and understanding the orientation of Uranus’ magnetic lines as well as how its auroras function. New mineral discovered deep inside Earth.
Mineralogist Dr. Oliver Tschauner of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in the United States and research team have discovered a new mineral inside a diamond mined in Botswana that originated from about 660 kilometers below the Earth’s surface in the mantle. The material has been named davemaoite, as a tribute to renowned experimental geophysicist Dr. Ho-Kwang (Dave) Mao, and is the first time a high-pressure calcium silicate perovskite has been found on Earth. It is also suspected that davemaoite contains trace amounts of uranium and thorium that release radioactive heat and help to warm the mantle. Way to go, Dr. Oliver Tschauner and fellow researchers, on your discovery of a new mineral coming from deep in the Earth. Serbian national football team presents monetary reward to children in need.
The Serbian President, His Excellency Aleksandar Vučić, entered the airplane that was preparing to fly the Serbian team to their match with Portugal and promised them a €1 million bonus if they qualified for the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) World Cup competition. With a 2-1 victory over Portugal, Serbia received automatic qualification for the FIFA World Cup Qatar2022. Upon returning home, the players decided to use this bonus money for the treatment of sick children. Player Aleksandar Mitrovic, who scored the winning goal, expressed the team’s happiness in their victory, saying, “We are overjoyed, for our country and the people first and foremost.” Kudos on your World Cup qualification, Serbian national football team. Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India’s civic body releases directives to remove non-vegetarian food from main roads.
In November 2021, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)’s Estate Department issued an oral order banning stalls and food carts selling non-vegetarian food from public roads as well as those operating within a 100-meter radius of schools, marriage halls, community halls, and religious places. The AMC’s town-planning committee chairman, Devang Dani, said, “…action should be taken considering the impact it has on people’s health.” Earlier, the municipal corporations of Vadodara, Rajkot, Junagadh, and Bhavnagar in Gujarat had ordered shopkeepers and hawkers to cover non-vegetarian food, including eggs, as they injure religious sentiments of Hindus. Dog-person in United States saves neighbor’s life.
Beagle-person Milo recently turned rescuer and helped save the life of his neighbor. Makayla Swift, Milo’s human companion, was getting ready to take him for their morning walk when he immediately ran across the street to the neighbor’s house and started scratching on the front and side doors. Ms. Swift realized there was a problem when she heard faint cries for help from the resident, 85-year-young Sherry Starr. Emergency services were called and thankfully, Ms. Starr is OK now after falling and not being able to get up. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), a Shining World Compassion Award recipient, rewarded Milo with an award and vegan treats. Ms. Swift shared, “He’s [Milo’s] been a huge blessing in my life...” We are so happy you are OK, Sherry Starr. Thank you, hero Milo, for your life-saving alert.
