To address serious public health risks, an interim guidance to global governments requests an immediate cease of the trade and slaughter of live mammals, especially wild ones, in food markets. The critical warning was issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Alarmingly, animals are reported to be the origin of over 70% of all novel infectious and deadly diseases that affect humans, including the Lassa fever, Nipah viral infection, Marburg hemorrhagic fever, MERS and SARS. Furthermore, it is probable that the virus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic came from wild mammals, as it is part of a group of bat-borne coronaviruses.
Many thanks, WHO, OIE and UNEP. As we pray for the health and safety of all, may humanity urgently transition to a life-supporting vegan world, in God’s light.
