Telling "We Animals" Stories: Interview with Jo-Anne McArthur (vegan), Part 3 of 4

Telling "We Animals" Stories: Interview with Jo-Anne McArthur (vegan), Part 3 of 4

“One of my main bits of advice for people who are photographing animals who want to show them or bring out the individual is to get down. Usually often, animals are smaller than us, so to get down and to get close and just to be patient and stay still and let them come to you and let them express their curiosity about you, and then you will be able to photograph something of that animal that is more about them and less about us looking down at them. What I really want to show is ‘we animals’ and how we are treating those animals. And so, it’s important to me to show the constructs that we have created in which we keep these animals. And so sometimes, the animal is not even really the subject of the photo – it’s everything that’s happening around that animal that we have done, that we have constructed.” “And I’ve also spent some time photographing at slaughterhouses recently. I’m just witnessing, I’m focusing on the individuals who are being slaughtered, and this is literally hell on Earth. I just can’t believe that we have created systems that work this way and that, not only do we slaughter beautiful living beings, but we do it in front of them, in front of all the others. It’s absolutely horrific, and it’s worldwide. It’s a complete lack of respect for all others, and it really is shocking. And that’s why, unfortunately, I have to keep getting up close to the slaughter so that we can all see that this is really how we’re doing it.”

Telling "We Animals" Stories: Interview with Jo-Anne McArthur (vegan), Part 2 of 4

“Then, there is a whole other category: the invisible animals, who we have a very close relationship with, and yet we fail to see them in our lives. We think of them as ‘our ribs’ or ‘wings,’ instead of the animal that they are. Or we think of them as a ‘fur trim’ instead of a fox or mink. These animals are completely invisible, and we use and abuse them worldwide every single day. And they aren’t represented anywhere; they’re invisible, we don’t see them in the media. And so, that became my mission: To illuminate the lives of these animals.” In 2013, Jo-Anne McArthur published her first book, “We Animals,” which was followed in 2017 by her second book entitled “Captive.” She has been awarded a range of commendations for her photography and activism, including the 2018 Wildlife Photographer of the Year, People’s Choice award. “For me, it was important to make a book specifically of this animal work to give it historical weight and significance, and not just to put the work out on social media.” “So, what we do with the images – and it’s not just me now, it’s several of us photographers and filmmakers – we put everything on the We Animals Archive. I think it’s the best thing we’ve ever done. There are about 12,000 video clips and photos of all sorts of industries in almost over 60 countries now, of our use and abuse, and sharing of space with animals. And the images are searchable by key word. And you get the high-res images for free. And again: it’s free.”

Remix the Future with Grizz Leon (vegan), Part 2 of 2

In today’s program, we get a little more insight about what led Mr. Leon to the vegan diet. “I haven’t been a vegan or vegetarian for long, but I have been really working on throughout years to know and study. For me as a rapper and as a singer, I feel like, me going full vegan, and really showing my body that I care and I respect my body and respect Mother Earth more.”Mr. Leon is an independent thinker. “I would love to remix the future by changing anything and everything that’s harmful to your body, to your mind, and to your soul. I need to remix the future and I need help. And I want people around me, people that I know; people that know other people that are in the same like mind, to want to remix this future and do something different. Change the future.” We salute Mr. Leon for choosing to live a compassionate vegan lifestyle, and leading the way to a brighter future through positive and uplifting music. His music and songs always consist of very positive lyrics with inspiring messages. Now, let's listen to a song called “Humanity” by Grizz Leon and Frank C.

With the ability to effortlessly blend different genres of music, such as reggae, rock, hip-hop, and R&B (rhythm and blues), he has made many rhythmical and upbeat musical pieces, including “Seize the Moment,” “Nibiru Possibilities,” “Remix The Future,” and “Keep The World Turning,” all of which he often shares through social media. Although he has been visually impaired since the age of 16, Mr. Leon brings happiness, light, inspiration, and positive messages through his songs and lyrics. Supreme Master Television had the honor of interviewing Mr. Leon at the 2018 SoCal VegFest in Los Angeles. “Because I knew where I came from. I knew where I got started, and all those motivations, pushed me forward. When you are doing music that will heal people, you want it to heal people. Then a spiritual aspect comes out of it, doesn’t even matter what religion you are from.” Let's watch an amazing vocal performance by Mr. Leon at the SoCal VegFest in 2018.

Telling "We Animals" Stories: Interview with Jo-Anne McArthur (vegan), Part 1 of 4

Jo-Anne McArthur, a Shining World Compassion Award Recipient, is a Canadian award-winning photojournalist, humane educator, animal rights activist, and author. “My name is Jo-Anne McArthur and I’m a photojournalist. I’m also the founder of the We Animals project, and that started over 15 years ago. It was me with a camera, going around the world, documenting our relationship with animals. But now, what it is, is We Animals Media. We are a small group of filmmakers, photographers, journalists telling the stories of animals worldwide.” “I thought it would be a really big deal to give up meat-eating. I thought it would be a big sacrifice, but what I learned is that it’s the opposite – it’s very freeing to live in line with my ideology, which is to not cause harm to anyone. And so eventually, when I became vegan, I felt quite freed. I think being vegan is a liberating way to live.” “What I find exciting about the camera is that it’s a tool for change. It shines light on all of these industries that are functioning behind walls, windowless walls. These are places that, for the most part around the world, we’re not allowed to see. Because if we were to see, people would not support that kind of cruelty.”

Songs for the Earth

00:12:04

Songs for the Earth

As our world is facing imminent danger from the climate crisis, mainly caused by the livestock industry, and pandemic diseases from meat consumption, it's time for us to examine our behaviors, and encourage each other to turn from our destructive ways of living, and embrace a compassionate lifestyle. Our survival depends on this. Musicians around the world have been inspired to touch our hearts with this message. Today, we will present three of these compositions in multiple languages. The first song is entitled, "Under the Sky." Written by Yi Zi and Yu Zhuo-Er, and released after the breakout of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China. The song asks hard questions, such as how heavy a burden can the Earth bear? How much loss can we suffer in a lifetime? It also reminds people that all life deserves respect, including that of the animals. The next song, "I Feel Alive," is a Hindi song, expressing the joy of being one with the Universe. "Unfolding myself Into this universe By being a part of it, I love listening to the Awesome stories that dwell within it. My heart is always happy happy Sometimes it jumps and sometimes dives. 24/7 all the time." Our last song is entitled, "Save Our Planet Now" by Sahi. "Save our Planet. Save it now. Save the forests on this Earth. Save them now. We need the forests on this Earth. Save the oceans on this Earth. Save them now. We need the oceans on this Earth."

Celebrating the Sacred Motherhood, Part 5 of 5

00:15:25

Celebrating the Sacred Motherhood, Part 5 of 5

Mother's Day is a very joyous occasion for those who still have a mother. In Japan, if you still have a mother, they have a tradition to come out and give you a pink carnation or a pink rose. And if you don't have a mother anymore, they give you a white one. The one who receives the pink carnation like this one, feels very happy and appreciative of their fortune that they still have their best friend in the world. Well, apart from the father as well. And the one who receives the white carnation feels sad and praying and remembering the mother and pray for her wellness in Heavens, and thinking of all the beautiful times that they spent with the mother and thinking of all the sacrifices that she made to bring them up, to nurture them, to teach them right from wrong, to protect them from all the unfortunate things that might happen to them in this world. There's no end to what a mother can do, would do, or has done for their children. Any living beings have parents. Let's pray that very, very soon all of them can celebrate Mother's Day in peace, safety, and happiness, just like we do today. Let's pray that our world will be awakened soon to realize that motherhood doesn't belong only to the human race, but belongs to all beings. So, let's pray that one day all of us, all of the world people and the universal beings realize that as we love our mothers, all other beings also love theirs. And let's hope, let's pray that one day very soon, all beings will try to protect this sacred motherhood, respect, sacred motherhood everywhere in all the universes, then we will surely, truly be happy in our heart and we will truly celebrate motherhood and truly celebrate and appreciate Mother's Day. Let's pray to all the mothers, whether they are here or in Heavens or elsewhere in all the universes, will have peace, will have love, will have protection, will have safety and happiness wherever they are, in God's mercy.

Next is a Chinese classical dance. The dance shows the virtues, elegance, warmth, and beauty of the Chinese women. This song of moon gazing with the meaningful, beautiful lyrics, expresses the earnest yearning to go back home, and the disciple’s longing to see the Master. Please give a warm welcome to the demonstration of Chinese formal dresses from Mainland China. “Gazing at the moon, I think of You. Gazing at You, I thank of the moon. The moon rises high but never higher than the sky. You go far away but never beyond my thoughts.” In such a short time, we’ve come to the last performance, a folk song and dance presented by our Aulacese (Vietnamese) Association members. Celebrating the Sacred Motherhood, Part 3 of 5

Now, let's continue watching part 3. "Missing Mother on Mother's Day" is a song praising a mother's love. It shows a kind and diligent nomadic mother standing in the wind missing her son far away. The second performance is a melodious song which carries the nostalgia of the vast grassland, blended harmoniously with the introspective and open-minded Mongolian dance. Thereby, it expresses the nostalgic feeling of a traveler who has been away from his homeland for a long time. "Birds are chirping and dawn has come, Red sun is rising on the horizon, Longing of all these years have not brought back my beloved mother. Through the sprouting desire in a dreaming heart, for the universe to make my mom immortal?" Next, let's welcome our Iranian initiate, who lives in Australia now. She will recite Rumi's poem "Come, the Beloved is Here," and perform a Kurdish festival dance. The poem by Rumi tells the internal quest for God. The dance is a group dance generally, to elevate the spirit through adversity. "You have gone hundred times this long journey to reach that House (Kaaba). Try once to come to the roof of this House. Once enter the state of Ihram, your journey in desert has finished. But you should totally get rid of this physical body."

Celebrating the Sacred Motherhood, Part 1 of 5

On May 12, 2019, our Association members from around the globe gathered at the New Land Ashram in Taiwan, also known as Formosa, to celebrate Mother's Day in honor of all mothers in our world. The colorful entertainment program included singing, instrumental and dance performances, as well as uplifting poetry recitals. Our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai graciously took precious time from Her meditation retreat to attend the occasion and delivered a moving speech on the sacred motherhood at the conclusion of the event. We are proud to present to you this joyous occasion in our 5-part series program. Let's begin with part 1. To start the program, our Association members from Ãu Lạc will perform a lotus flower and lantern dance. The lotus flower and lantern dance is one of the unique arts of Huế Royal Court. It symbolizes the glorious and splendid golden time of the old in the Royal Court. Next is an initiate performing a guzheng solo: "Overwhelming Heroic Spirit." This piece of music conveys a very distinct image. The fast-paced passages are vibrant and exciting, while the slow tempo passages are soothing and beautiful. It signifies the fearless spirit. It represents a mother's struggle with circumstance and life for her children and shows the normally unseen side of a mother - tenacity.

The band has released two albums, and won the grand prize at the 2014 international Jewish Music Festival of Amsterdam. They were selected as the best composition, and best Israeli talent. Most of the times, meeting in nature, and creating in nature, and it’s connecting us and our music, and gives us this silence to create for. An inspiration.” Not only do the band members play in nature, studios, and concerts, but they also reach out to people in need and use music to lift them up. “They’re learning, they can beat the drum the right way. And they can speak through the drum. They can play rhythms. And its wonderful and after a while, maybe after two, three, four months, they have so much knowledge, and they can play very good. And it makes them calm, it makes them calm, it makes them also to believe in themselves that they can do things. And that’s for these special kids. I hope we brought them some comfort, hope.”

Happy United Korea Peace Celebrations, Part 5 of 8

As you can see from the two heart-breaking performances, but beautiful, that war is no good. War is no, no. Peace is the only answer. I don’t like war. Please no more war. Just too much suffering, not just bodily, but emotional, psychological. Even people who escaped already from war, or from the imminent war, they still bear the scars all over their mind, their psyche, their emotion. They will never forget; they are traumatized forever. Please, no more. No more for the children’s sake. Please no more. We don’t need it. Just peace, peace everywhere. Not just for Korea, but everywhere in every little corner on our planet and everywhere else in the universe. Only peace, we can be human. Only in peace, we can love and develop and contribute. They came from North Korea many years ago, but they’re still so afraid, so scared. They don’t live their life completely. Something is missing because their family members are missing. Something in their heart is not right. They will never recover unless complete peace in Korea happens and then they can visit, stay with their family members. Visit their old friends, and old village, and feel like whole again. We all pray for peace. And so that these people and others they can find their own happiness. Complete again as a human, as they deserve it.

The modern dance “Unforgettable Memories.” We will continue the North Korean pop song, “Arirang.” “I am going over the Arirang hill. Over there on the mountain, a sparrow in the rain is wandering to welcome you.” “From Mt.Baekdu to Mt.Halla, From Mt.Halla to Mt.Baekdu, We are one nation and one people who have been living together for thousands of years. I wish 2.3 million people in North Korea and our mothers and fathers in Pyongyang could be together at this beautiful gathering. That day of the reunification, the day of reunification will certainly come.” Today’s warm gathering and your enthusiastic applause will remain forever in both of our hearts.
