Selection from Theosophy’s Sacred Teachings: “The Voice of the Silence,” Fragment I & II, Part 1 of 2

“The Voice of the Silence” presents excerpts of a sacred Tibetan Buddhist text that Madame Blavatsky encountered in the East, titled “The Book of the Golden Precepts.” Translating these fragments herself from Tibetan to English, she encourages readers to practice spiritually for selfless goals, in accordance with the Buddha’s teachings. Kill thy desires. Silence thy thoughts. And of these modes of Truth: Have thou not passed through passed through knowledge of all misery – Truth the first? Have thou not conquered the Maras’ King at T si, the portal of assembling – Truth the second? Have thou not sin at the third gate destroyed and Truth the third attained? Have not thou entered [Tao], “the Path” that leads to knowledge – the fourth Truth? Thou Have become the (inner Heavenly) Light, thou Have become the (inner Heavenly) Sound, thou are thy Master and thy God.

From Sufism’s Sacred Fihi ma Fihi: Discourses of Rumi, Discourse 10, Part 2 of 2

Today we invite you to listen to an excerpt of Rumi’s teachings from the “Fihi Ma Fihi,” Discourse 10. “When the Prophet was transported out of Himself and spoke, He used to say, ‘God says.’ Now, from the standpoint of embodiment, it was His tongue that spoke; but He wasn’t there at all. That speaker was greater than He was. God is wholly free of form and words. Its speech is beyond letters and vo

A Master’s Only Obligation is to Liberate People: Questions and Answers, Part 4 of 4 #22, Dec.2, 1988

The realm of the Avatamsaka, the realm of the Amitabha Buddha, can still be described. Some other realms are indescribable. This is the true Dharma eye. Just don’t be attached to it. We don’t have to change our situation, we just need to change from within.“Blessing power” is when an enlightened spiritual practitioner has unlimited merit, then when He looks at anyone, that person will receive unlimited blessings. Whoever He touches is guaranteed to be liberated. Whoever is initiated by Him is sure to become enlightened.

When the Buddha was alive, He had many disciples, and even His disciples could work miracles. And Jesus promised His disciples that whatever He did, they could do the same. Therefore, we owe it to mankind to practice the way Christ did, the way Buddha did. And because I owe it to mankind to attain what I have attained today, I have to share it with you. I am happy to share it with you. Whoever likes to share it, I’m happy to devote my time, my attention, my energy, even my health, my finances to you, without any request in return, except that you work for it for the benefit of yourself and for the world that we live in.

We have to be grateful not only to the living, but also the deceased. Spiritual practitioners, such as Quan Yin practitioners, are the most grateful and righteous. Because if we practice, our 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 generations would be elevated. If we practice well, if we have faith and practice diligently, of course all our ancestors would be elevated. We are the most grateful, not just benevolent; we are truly filial to our ancestors. We are grateful to benefactors and we repay them all. We also have enough power to repay them.

As parents, many of you for years have been telling your children: “Don’t drink. But if you’re going to drink, then at least don’t drink and drive.” While you do not want your child to drink in the first place, if your child’s not going to follow your ideal rules, then you might likely put some next-level boundaries forth. “That is like the rules of kashrut. The Torah gives us rules for slaughtering animals, not because we are ever being told to slaughter animals, but because we are being told how to slaughter them in case we actually decide to do that.” Being vegan, is authentically the ideal.

And now, O Teacher of Compassion, point thou the way to other men. Behold, all those who knocking for admission, await in ignorance and darkness, to see the gate of the Sweet Law flung open! The voice of the Candidates: Shall not thou, Master of thine own Mercy, reveal the Doctrine of the Heart? Shall thou refuse to lead thy Servant unto the Path of Liberation? Quoth the Teacher: The Paths are two; the great Perfections three; six are the Virtues that transform the body into Tree of Knowledge. Who shall approach them? Who shall first enter them? Who shall first hear the doctrine of two Paths in one, the truth unveiled about the Secret Heart? The Law which, shunning learning, teaches Wisdom, reveals a tale of woe.

Showing courtesy to people is always good for us. People would respect us. So it’s also a kind of charity to treat people nicely and politely. Sharing a happy atmosphere is also benevolence. Treat people nicely to cheer them up. Let them laugh joyously amid this suffocating life and become more cheerful. This is also a kind of benevolence. No wonder Confucius was so enlightened. He put benevolence as number one. If we have no benevolence, the other qualities will not develop. In fact, benevolence alone is sufficient.

Mission of Compassion: An Interview with Zen Buddhist Head Priest Souken Danjo, Part 2 of 2

Of course, in a large sense, a vibration or a sound means a lot, I think. But, here is a word called “a spiritual sound.” It is not music, and not to enjoy a sound. It is a spiritual sound. When I intend to cherish a spiritual sound, I think it is profoundly meaningful. I think there are lots of sounds which relax your mind, or make you peaceful, or make you approach being a so-called compassionate person. There are sounds which give you the opposite reactions, too. But if the music makes us or our minds peaceful as much as possible, I think such music gives a tremendous power.

Selection from the Holy Kitab-I-Aqdas of the Baha’i Faith: Paragraphs 112-150, Part 2 of 2

Let none, in this Day, hold fast to anything save that which hath been manifested in this Revelation. Such is the admonition of the Lord, before and hereafter—an admonition. Naught shall avail you in this Day but God, nor is there any refuge to flee to save Him. Wish not for others what ye wish not for yourselves. “Lay not upon your souls that which will weary them and weigh them down, but rather what will lighten and uplift them, so that they may soar on the wings on the Divine verses towards the Dawning-place of His manifest signs; this will draw you nearer to God, did ye but comprehend.”

So, the dead person is the one who wears a kind of transparent clothes. Transparent means, because it’s invisible to our physical eyes. That doesn’t mean they don’t have a figure, a being. So,the Quan Yin Bodhisattva will help both. Because, to the Buddha or the Bodhisattva, there is no discrimination between the dead or the living. It depends whether they have affinity with Quan Yin Bodhisattva. But to have the living, is better than to have the dead being. Because in the physical body, we can change the future better. We have the instrument like the brain. For the person outside the car, it’s difficult. Understand?

Selections from “Four Doctrines,” “Athanasian Creed” and “Earths in the Universe” by Emanuel Swedenborg, Part 2 of 2

The style of the Word (Holy Bible) is the Divine style itself, with which no other style, however sublime and excellent it may seem, is at all to be compared; for every other style is as darkness is to light. The style of the Word is such that there is holiness in every sentence, and in every word, and in some places in even the very letters. This is why the Word conjoins man with the Lord, and opens Heaven. From the Lord proceed two things: Divine love, and Divine wisdom (or, what is the same, Divine good, and Divine truth, for Divine good is of His Divine love, and Divine truth is of His Divine wisdom).

From the Holy Bible: The First Epistle of Saint John, Part 2 of 2

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in His presence: If your hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything. Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from Him anything we ask, because we keep His commands and do what pleases Him.

From Judaism’s Holy Tanakh: Book of Mishlei (Proverbs) – Selection from Chapters 20-23, 28 and 29, Part 1 of 2

Judaism’s history begins around 2000 BCE with the Covenant between God (Elohim) and Abraham. Over a thousand years later, as the Jewish faithful Believe, God’s (Elohim’s) laws and commandments were revealed to Prophet Moses on Mount Sinai, forming the Torah, which is the first part of the Hebrew Bible. The Hebrew Bible, or Tanakh, and the ancient writings of the Talmud, embody the beliefs and practices of Judaism. Present in every aspect of the religion is a single, omniscient, and compassionate God (Elohim). The Holy Tanakh’s Book of Mishlei (Proverbs) is the second book in Ketuvim (Writings), the third section of the holy Tanakh.

Always Keep Pure and Positive. We have to be very careful how we live our lives because everything we think generates something. Every time you think negatively about someone, is that comfortable for you? No. Already it's no good. But it's very easy to keep ourselves in control. Just look straight inside, recite the Holy Names and pray every time that the Master will help you and will help give you loving thoughts right away or replace the bad ones with loving ones.

From “Philosophy of the Masters (Gurmat Sidhant)” by Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj - Love (Prem), Part 2 of 2

There are many valuable gifts of God in this world, such as wealth, beauty, strength, power, good health, knowledge, fluency of speech and worship. Man is naturally fond of these things, but they are all lacking in something. Wealth makes a man proud. Beauty makes him blind. Power and good health are the cause of cruelty and arrogance. Knowledge brings in selfish ideas. Intellect is a delusion, and to indulge in clever speeches leads one to falsehood and to garrulous talk. External religious observances and worship are the cause of narrow-mindedness and bigotry. Better than all these gifts of God is the gift of love.

From the Book of Chuang Tzu: Chapter 18, Perfect Happiness, Part 1 of 2

I make true pleasure to consist in inaction, which the world regards as great pain. Thus it has been said, “Perfect happiness is the absence of happiness; perfect renown is the absence of renown.” Now in this sublunary world of ours it is impossible to assign positive and negative absolutely. Nevertheless, in inaction they can be so assigned. Perfect happiness and preservation of life are to be sought for only in inaction. Let us consider. Heaven does nothing; yet it is clear. Earth does nothing; yet it enjoys repose. From the inaction of these two proceed all the modifications of things. How vast, how infinite is inaction, yet without source! How infinite, how vast, yet without form! The endless varieties of things around us all spring from inaction.

He said, “Have you considered what you worship. You and your ancient ancestors? They are enemies to me, but not so the Lord of the Worlds. He who created me, and guides me. He who feeds me, and waters me. And when I get sick, He heals me. He who makes me die, and then revives me. He who, I hope, will forgive my sins on the Day of the Reckoning.” “My Lord!
