Earth Store Bodhisattva Sutra: Benefiting the Living and the Dead, Part 5 of 5, Aug. 11, 2015

They believe that being a monk is the way to liberation. Because they think that the nature of life is ephemeral anyway. So, give them place and respect, give way when they walk. Do anything in your respectful way. And they meditate a lot more. They truly keep the precepts. They truly understand why they became monks and nuns, why they practice. I just respect them because of the ideal they hold, the renunciation they make, the self-denial that they try. They try hard to be a good person, to be a good monk.

Earth Store Bodhisattva Sutra: Benefiting the Living and the Dead, Part 4 of 5, Aug. 11, 2015

“‘When men or women, laden with offenses, who failed to plant good causes die, even they can receive one-seventh of any merit dedicated to them by relatives who do good deeds on their behalf. The other six-sevenths of the merit will return to the living relatives who did the good deeds. It follows that men or women of the present and future who cultivate while they are strong and healthy will receive all portions of the benefit derived.’” So, when you die as a good person like that and you relatives still - just in case you didn’t, or through love - do all these good deeds and on your behalf, then you receive all the merit.

Earth Store Bodhisattva Sutra: Benefiting the Living and the Dead, Part 3 of 5, Aug. 11, 2015

Spread the name of the Buddhas in all directions. That’s why Buddhism is great. It tells you the way to do it. But other religions also tell you, “Pray to God, pray to Jesus.” But you have to do it constantly so that when you die, you remember. So continue, so when they die, they don’t forget. Their subconscious doesn’t forget. That’s important. Not just mind. Continue until it’s ingrained in your subconscious, that even when you wake up, immediately you remember the Buddha’s name. And even when you die, you’re unconscious, your subconscious will remember.

Earth Store Bodhisattva Sutra: Benefiting the Living and the Dead, Part 2 of 5, Aug. 11, 2015

They can leave the evil destiny forever if relatives pray for them and give offerings to the Buddha’s image and all that and continue to do good deeds on their behalf. He will be born as humans or gods, and receive supremely wonderful bliss. The surviving relatives will also receive limitless benefits. All these killing, harming of sacrifice are the least helpful for the deceased. Such acts only bind up the conditions of offenses, so that they grow even more deep and heavy. I see that beings of Jambudvipa will themselves receive the benefit of any good deeds they are able to do within the Buddha’s teaching. That holds true even when the deeds are as small as a strand of hair.

Earth Store Bodhisattva Sutra: Benefiting the Living and the Dead, Part 1 of 5 Aug. 11, 2015

This is for the people who are ignorant, who have no refuge in anyone, who have nowhere to go, no one to believe in, no one to rely on. So, you are the ones who probably have to help these kinds of people so that they don't fall to hell. Because if nobody prays for them at the time of death, nobody tries to do good things and forward this merit to that soul, then he goes to hell, or goes to a bad reincarnation. That's why you see all the churches and all the religions, all the Buddhist monks and nuns always busy praying for the dead.

The Surangama Sutra: The Four Clear and Unalterable Instructions on Purity (Conclusion) & Establishing a Place for Awakening, Part 8 of 8 Dec. 24, 2018

The Surangama Sutra: The Four Clear and Unalterable Instructions on Purity (Conclusion) & Establishing a Place for Awakening, Part 8 of 8 Dec. 24, 2018

“Ananda, if any one of the monk’s precept transmitting masters or any one of the other monks practicing with him is not pure, then the Bodhimanda as described will not be successful.” Even if you don’t sleep for three months, even if you’re pure, who knows if the bhiksu giving you the precepts is pure or not pure? Therefore, even if you have all that from one of the monks, all the precepts, you can never be sure. This is the problem. You should always choose your birth whenever a living Master is born, so that when you grow up, your time, your age, you come of age, then you can go and grab that Master and quick. Not doing all this.

The pyramid is, people built it for meditation. Nobody even knew up until now, what it was for; for meditation purposes. Number one, it’s very good concentration inside. Energy. Also, the cosmic energy can help you. It’s one pointed like that. And then number two is that in the desert, it’s so hot. The pyramid is very thick, the wall diameter, very thick, and it’s so cool inside. After the Master dies, 300 or 500 years maximum, (the lineage) no more. That’s why every Sutra emphasizes a living Master.

The Surangama Sutra: The Four Clear and Unalterable Instructions on Purity (Conclusion) & Establishing a Place for Awakening, Part 6 of 8, Dec. 24, 2018

All this is because you don’t find a living Master. You study with His disciples or some lay later-generation disciples, if they still have the instructions in their heart to tell you. Then, because the living Master, meaning the Buddha’s not there anymore, you have to do thus such and such and such and such. Then you can also become enlightened and the Buddha will appear to you and bless you to be enlightened; that is that. So the living Master is the easier way for you, if you can find one. There’s some more. So many Buddha images and Bodhisattvas and heavenly beings already; some more coming, in case you want to try.

After initiation, make sure you remember, so that every day you continue to practice, so that your mind will be ingrained into this spiritual power already. “In the countries within them, they should seek for the unsurpassed Thus Come Ones throughout the ten directions, to emit a light of great compassion and anoint the crowns of their heads.” Don’t let the mind trouble you and rob you of your enlightenment and faith. Faith is the mother of all virtues; that’s what I said. Buddha said that, the same. A country, rich or not, materially, it doesn’t matter too much, but spiritually rich, it matters.

The Surangama Sutra: The Four Clear and Unalterable Instructions on Purity (Conclusion) & Establishing a Place for Awakening, Part 4 of 8 Dec. 24, 2018

The teachings and the lineage of the spiritual power of any Master, it’s like a river. Sometimes, it’s hidden under the earth somewhere, and you think this is the end of the river. No, no, it will seep out somewhere and then appear again; so it is like that. Any of the religious people should look where the river reappears, and do not be attached to a location of the original river, because in all ages, all religious branches, there will always be a Master somewhere. It may not be in the same lineage, not be in the same religious order, but there will be a Master for the world, for our world.

Sometimes, the comfortable place doesn’t mean a good place. You might not have peace at the end; not peace within yourself only, but peace with other coordinating people. “Whatever is good for the world, and good for other people, then I would do it, no matter what.” And now, Buddha’s talking about Ananda’s private life, “Your past lives with Matangi’s daughter created accumulated kalpas of causes and conditions. Yet, as soon as I proclaimed it (the spiritual mantra), she was freed forever from the affection in her heart and accomplished Arhatship…

So, watch all the time, your mind, because your mind is tricking you all the time, due to habit, due to the company you keep, due to the job that you are doing, due to your surroundings, due to your family tradition or kind of lineage or just habit. So, watch it all the time. This is the most difficult to watch, because we always make excuses when we want to do something, we say, “Oh, I do that because of that, because of this.” Whether or not it’s true, you don’t care, and that is also lying; should not. Always watch our mind. The Buddha said that “If monks’ minds are as straight as the lute strings, true and real in everything they do, then they can enter Samadhi and never be involved in the deeds of demons. I certify that such people will accomplish the Bodhisattvas’ Unsurpassed Knowledge and Enlightenment.”

The precepts are very important, not only for nuns and monks, but for you as well, if you want to be liberated while you are taking care of your duties in the world according to your karma. Not everyone can be nuns and monks, of course. It's a very difficult undertaking. It's very difficult. It needs a lot of discipline, a lot of training yourself, a lot of self-introspecting, a lot of sacrifice of personal taste, personal freedom. Everything! Many things, many things.

Entering the New Universal Platform, Part 4 of 4, Feb. 23-24, 2005

Just be honest, sincere, genuine. Be natural. Selfishness always makes you lose points. Everything that concentrates to try to get things for yourself alone, you lose everything! Whereas if you try to serve other people with love and with unconditional devotion, you gain. Because whenever you offer yourself to other people, even one person, you expand. Your energy, your aura, expands at least into that person’s area. The more you serve, the more you expand! You’re bigger!

We were talking about sincere people, eh? But it doesn’t mean you come here and prostrate full length to me, that is sincerity - that’s just theater. You are sincere, I know it. All right? Don’t need theater, OK? Don’t make trouble. Don’t draw attention to yourself. Don’t be greedy like that. Don’t play theater to me. I don’t need all that. I need you to meditate and to do good things, and to be good for the sake of everybody and yourself. I don’t need you to make theater around here, like “I’m the most sincere person in the whole universe.” All that stuff! Appearance really does cheat people, does fool people, but doesn’t fool me.

The best is that you are with me all the time, 24 hours. That means you meditate, you be good, you treat others well, you remember God. And that’s it! That’s how we are together – we look into the same direction. Remember they say love is not looking into each other’s eyes, but looking into the same direction. That is very correct. So long as we do the same thing, we think the same thing, we are always together. And later, we are all together all the time, forever. And anything you have to do, do it fast! One second is your life, half a second is your life. You meditate well.

Everything’s changed – the world’s changed, I’ve changed, you’ve changed. Everybody must change. We catch up, OK? I look the same, but I am not the same anymore. Everything has changed, the inner concept has changed, and my way has changed. My way has changed, you must change. Change the way you think, change the way you treat life, change the way you treat yourself, change the way you treat the meditation. You must make it the most important thing in your life! Even though I told you before, this time it’s not the same. I really mean business.

Keep Replenishing Our Protection Power and Be Unconditional, Part 2 of 2, July 5, 2018

You work here; you have a lot of merits. Understand? The best merit you can have for yourself, and for your ancestors, and your parents. So, you are the most filial sons or daughters of your family. Even though you don’t earn money or give them material comfort, you do the best. Like the Buddha, like His monks. Understand? Even one of His monks rescued his mother from hell. You remember that story? Just because he was a monk, he had enough spiritual power. Also with the help of other monks. Even the Buddha said He cannot. Remember that?

Keep Replenishing Our Protection Power and Be Unconditional, Part 1 of 2 July 5, 2018

Here is the best for you. Outside maybe you earn a lot of money but then you will spend a lot also, sweating around just for something; not as good as here. Here you are working to spread the good teaching. That’s the best merit. If you don’t believe me, you ask the Buddha. You can ask the Sutra. The Sutra is what the Buddha pronounced. He said, “Donating Dharma,” meaning the True Teaching. It’s the best donation, the best offering. You get the best merit. Without any bad karma or good karma attached to it; means pure, pure spiritual merit. And then you can go up higher.

Equanimity Of The Buddha: The Story of Ni Đề, Part 4 of 4, Aug. 11, 2015

“Everyone, every person in the world, doesn’t matter if he’s noble or lowly, rich or poor, all of that is because of their karma in the past. You sow the good karma or wicked karma. The person who are very humane and moral, humble, respect the superior, and tolerant to the lower subordinate, these are noble.” He means all this nobility lineage, richness and all that is not really a noble lineage. The person who is such and such is really from noble lineage, really can be called noble person, aristocrat. “Anyone who is wicked and violent, or stubborn, rude, impolite, or very arrogant, doesn’t know which is right, which is wrong, that is the lowly person, stupid, idiot.”
