This special day commenced on October 2, 1983. It is also the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi Ji, a committed vegetarian. He understood that non-violence is a virtue that must be extended to both human beings and animal-people. On this day, many people take the opportunity to remind others that animal-people such as myself are the friends and helpers of human beings. They advocate for our safety and wellbeing, and remind others that a kind and compassionate vegan diet is the best way to end the ongoing suffering of animal-people for meat and dairy products all around the world.

On this important day of reflection, I implore you to consider the plight of the billions of animal-people who are caged, scared, malnourished, sick, sad, and forgotten. I would like to dedicate some poems to these beautiful souls. Let’s start with the beautiful chicken-people.

Fortunately, more people around the world are discovering the beauty of the chicken-people. One such person is Andrea Davis. She is the Founder of Broken Shovels Farm Sanctuary in Colorado, USA, and her sanctuary was awarded a Shining World Compassion award by Supreme Master Ching Hai.

Now I would love to tell you about some of my other friends, the peaceful cow-people. They are such big and strong beings, yet they are so gentle and full of love. Many doctors say that dairy milk is not healthy for humans. So humans don’t need to take milk away from baby calves.

More and more people are awakening to the beautiful nature of the cow-people. Sanctuaries for animal-people from livestock factories are essential for this. Take, for example, the Rowdy Girl Sanctuary, operated by the kind-hearted couple, Renee King-Sonnen and Tommy Sonnen.

In 2009, during a climate change conference in Washington, D.C., USA, Supreme Master Ching Hai has also shared the same sentiment that animal-people really enjoy love and respect. “Speaking of the quality, the unconditional love, I must say something about honoring this love from the animal-people. For all the generosity of spirit and blessings that they bring into our lives, how do we have the heart to kill them, and eat them, to enjoy their suffering?”
