The Animalist Party with the Environment (PACMA) – Advocating for Animal-people Welfare in the Political Arena, Part 2 of 2

Since 2003 PACMA’s advocacy has taken place in the political milieu as the Party works tirelessly to inform of the plight of the animal-people, defend their right to a peaceful existence, and pursue votes that will result in regulations ending ill-practices. There is also a very particular species that the Party is devoted to protecting. “In small octopus-people farms, there is a 15% mortality rate. Imagine in such dire conditions, the animals are going to live their whole life in hell, only to end up dying in a way that is just as bad, as they are to be plunged into water at -3ºC, where they will gradually become paralyzed and they will die asphyxiated, very slowly, and very painfully.” From 1950 to 2014, the demand for octopus-persons as “exotic food items” skyrocketed; fishing them in the wild with catches that would amount to 400,000 tons.

With plans underway for an extensive facility in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, PACMA reacted with an urgent call for action in its campaign titled: “Save The Octopuses: We call for a new international action against the octopus farm in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.” “These protests, which are really international events, began in the year 2022 in 32 cities around the world, and this year (2023) in 30 other cities, cities on other continents, such as Mexico City, Quito, Jalisco, Berlin, London, Copenhagen, and Sydney, and all of this is encompassed by the macro-project, the macro-farm that he wants to do in Nueva Pescanova in Gran Canaria. 3,000 tonnes of octopus are to be produced, which would involve breeding and killing a million octopuses a year.”

Another major concern is the environmental impact. Diseases could also spread from the farm into open waters and negatively affect the ocean environment. Some activists say the solution is much simpler: don’t eat octopus-people. “There’re so many wonderful vegan alternatives out there now,” says Dr. Carys Bennett of animal-people rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). “We’re urging everyone to protest against this farm.”
