Thousands of our wildlife co-inhabitants are facing a similar fate. Their populations have declined rapidly and many species are in imminent danger of extinction. According to a new report from the conservation group the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a Shining World Compassion Award recipient, human activity has caused the planet to lose two-thirds of its wildlife since 1970. In just over four decades, the global wildlife populations have dropped by an average of 68%. This rapidly decreasing rate is a warning that many wild animals will be extinct by the end of the 21st century. Some of them will disappear from the Earth before scientists even discover them.
How can humans help assist with wildlife conservation and rehabilitation and steer us towards a pandemic-free world? I have some suggestions. Please help raise the awareness of how important animals are to the ecosystems through education. Work with local wildlife conservation programs and rehabilitation projects to learn more about endangered species, and how to protect them. Please use recycled and sustainable products, and support eco-friendly and green technologies that guard nature and the Earth. Please buy recycled and tree-free paper, which helps to reduce the felling of woodlands. Also, choose palm oil-free products to avoid forests from being bulldozed to create palm oil plantations, thus permanently displacing native species. Government and nature-focused non-governmental organizations worldwide should become involved in safeguarding all species by monitoring populations, restoring habitats, building more rehabilitation centers, and improving natural ecosystems. Another idea is to enact more pro-animal laws to shield wildlife, such as banning their trading, hunting, and poaching as well as prohibiting their use for amusement or consumption. Please refrain from purchasing souvenirs, shoes, clothing, or any other products made from animals such as ivory, bone, feathers, fur, turtle shell, leather, dried coral, and seashells. Avoid patronizing any events that profit from the use of wildlife, such as animal circuses and captive animal performances.
In conclusion, the root solution for the immense, ongoing global destruction of wildlife is that humanity should change its diet to a compassionate plant-based one. A vegan food system not only benefits the health of humans and our planet but also can save our impressive planetary assortment of fauna from extinction. We should work hand in hand to protect our shared biosphere.
