American pastor Reverend Bishop Reed shares a life-saving message after he died and entered hell.
Before becoming a minister, Bishop Reed worked at a candy company and became addicted to cocaine. After a three-day binge, he returned home, lay down, and experienced a massive heart attack from the drug overdose. Lying on his stomach, he grabbed his chest in agony and suddenly left his body.
Floating above, Bishop Reed looked down at himself and peered into the living room, where his girlfriend (now wife) sat. He tried to get her attention but couldn’t speak. Instantly, he was transported to a place he wouldn’t wish on his worst enemy: a dark, lonely void, utterly divorced from love. He felt others’ presence but saw nothing. A smell of sulfur filled the air; folded over, Bishop Reed panted for breath. But the more he tried breathing the poisoned air, the more he suffocated, in an endless, excruciating cycle. In the darkness, the loneliness penetrated all through and around him— an eternal absence of God’s Love, Light, and caring. All physical pains from his life— broken finger, broken leg, busted head, diseases— converged at once, multiplied and cycled perpetually through him and everyone else there, nonstop for eternity. He had sensory perception: awareness, feeling, but no memory of family or earthly life; only magnified pain. He existed in a folded-over yet standing position, with no firm footing beneath—no sense of standing on anything. The existence was insane, unbearable.
Desperate to escape, Bishop Reed suddenly remembered childhood prayers with his grandfather, and he cried out, “Lord Jesus.” Instantly, he left the darkness and was in a place full of light, tranquility, and indescribable colors. He accelerated through a brilliant lightning tunnel at tremendous speed, with a warm, loving Presence by his side. At the tunnel’s end, he saw radiant Light and asked, “Lord God, if this is Heaven, let me see it.” The Lord replied, “No.” Time froze. Bishop Reed heard, “Go back, for I am not ready for you yet.” Despite his protests, the Bishop was sent back through the tunnel, through the ceiling, saw his body, and reentered it with a sound like an electric jolt. He jumped up crying, went to the living room and asked his girlfriend, “Why didn’t you answer me when I called to you?” She replied she did not hear anything and thought he was asleep. He said, “No, I died and just came back.”
Despite his hell-experience, Bishop Reed fell back into drugs. He eventually turned back to God during another cocaine episode. High and near collapse, he heard, “Remove thyself from this table.” He told his friends to leave, spent his last US$12 on a bus to his mother’s house, begged to be saved, and went to church still high and sick. The sermon pierced him; he ran down the aisle and was baptized, accepting Lord Jesus Christ (vegetarian) as his Savior. Bishop Reed says something “fell off” him in the water, and his life changed forever.
He became deeply involved in deliverance ministry. He regularly confronts demons that possess people or manifest physically, moving tables, appearing hideous, foul-smelling, or distorted. The Bishop had his first demonic encounters as a child. Around four or five years old, he was repeatedly harassed by a small demon about two and a half feet [0.75 meters] tall, with clawed nails, four fingers, slanted eyes with a dot for a pupil, that would climb the stairs and torment him at the foot of his bed. He often woke up with scratches on his chest.
As he grew older, these manifestations intensified. One night, while lying in bed beside his wife, the door opened, the room temperature dropped below freezing, and a presence hovered at the foot of the bed. Bishop Reed held her so she wouldn’t look, but she broke free, screamed, and described seeing her uncle hovering in a black suit with no hands or feet, and empty eye sockets with fire in them. The door slammed and the temperature returned to normal.
In another incident, Bishop Reed was confronted by a violent, belligerent young lady in front of a mirror. As she attacked and he grabbed her hands, the demon possessing her revealed itself in the mirror: a grotesque, huge entity with a head about four feet [1.2 meters] wide, covered in horns and warts—the most hideous thing the Bishop had ever seen.
Once in church, while Bishop Reed was praying for people, demons manifested dramatically: speaking in other languages, refusing to leave individuals. Another time, his daughter called him in terror after experiencing sexual assault from a demonic entity. As the Bishop prayed over the phone, her voice shifted between three voices, one repeatedly hissing “you die, you die.” During her exorcism, the local pastor said the demon’s stench was so unbearable they had to cover their faces.
Bishop Reed’s near-death experience and demonic encounters have heightened his spiritual sensitivity, fueling his sermons. Of Heaven, he says: The Light supersedes any light in this world. The colors are so vivid they cannot be described. The peace permeates through you. The love there is unconditional, surpassing all understanding. We speak of unconditional love here, but in God’s presence, it is pure love you cannot experience on Earth
Of hell, he warns: It is an eternal place. The absence of God’s Love. No one is there with you. It’s just pain, cycling forever. This world is not worth holding onto. Jesus is the only way out (Randy Kay)
