The fig tree is one of the most important trees to our forests, sustaining over 1200 species of birds and mammals in the wild. It is known as a keystone plant-if taken away from the jungle, the whole ecosystem would collapse. The Enlightened Prophet Muhammad once said:” If I had to mention a fruit that descended from paradise, I would say this is the fig…” Thus, the fig tree’s fruit is also know as the “Fruit of Paradise.” The revered spiritual master Gautama Buddha once attained full enlightenment after meditating for seven days under a large fig tree, which became know as the Bodhi Tree.
