The EU has further donated €450,000 to an EU-funded consortium, to reduce human life loss from measles in the most affected districts across south-central Somalia. This contribution will be used for measures including mass vaccination for youngsters under 15 years old, vitamin A supplementation for children under five years old, medical management and screening for malnutrition with proper treatment. The effort is assisted by the World Health Organization (WHO), which provides needed materials to support lab and surveillance capacities. The polio virus was recently detected in two different wastewater samples from Orange County in the state of New York, USA, indicating that the dangerous virus is spreading throughout the community. This follows a recent infection in the neighboring Rockland County, New York, where a man became paralyzed. The origin of his infection was likely overseas, and the same strain has also been found in the United Kingdom and Israel. It is the first time that a polio case has been reported in this state since 1990. Mayor of New York, the Honorable Eric Adams, a Shining World Leadership Award for Compassion recipient, commented, “We are dealing with a trifecta. Jarmo Moilanen from the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute and Dr. Maria Gritsevich from the University of Helsinki in Finland have cataloged all the atmospheric halos that have been observed from Earth for the last 4,000-5,000 years. The brilliant halos, that can be seen while looking at the Sun, Moon or other planets, are the result of light bending and scattering as it passes through hexagonal ice crystals in the sky. However, the cause of some of these phenomena is still not yet understood. There are 119 various ice crystal halo forms known today, grouped into commonly observed, which are visible at least once a year, and rarely seen. Currently, more than 13,000 Starlink terminals contributed by Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) are being used to facilitate internet access throughout Ukraine. SpaceX’s Starlink project, which engages a network of satellites to provide broadband internet access, will ensure uninterrupted communications for crucial infrastructure such as medical and educational facilities. The State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine also plans to extend Starlink internet access to trains by the end of this year. London Boucher of Calgary, Alberta, has donated all the proceeds from his sidewalk lemonade stand to the Calgary Humane Society’s efforts to provide more space for animal-persons in need. The nine-year-old set up his beverage stall for the second consecutive year; last year he sold enough lemonade to contribute over US$290 to support children with cancer. His mother commented that London has always been keen to help others. According to his customers, the 77 cents glass of the refreshing drink has just the right amount of sweetness and lemon, with sales being boosted with a little help from Jasper, his four-year-old brother who does his best to attract people to the stall. Recently, about 100 animal-persons, who had been captured to be sold, were released back into their natural habitats in the Hương Sơn forest in Âu Lạc (Vietnam). The species included people from the wildcat, king cobra and bird kingdoms, including 30 black-throated laughing thrush-beauties, with all of them being endangered and part of the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species. The Hanoi Wildlife Rescue Center organized their release, and took special care to ensure each animal-person was placed in a suitable habitat.
