“The police are the assets, the good, good assets of any country. They have been trained to do many things – even midwife, they can even deliver a baby. I mean, if they have to, emergency-wise. And they can do CPR to help the unconscious people, or babies or children even. Or even help in many ways that I probably forget to mention.”

Sometimes the help that a police officer gives may seem like a small gesture, but it touches many people. This wonderful officer in China saw an elderly man having difficulty getting across the street, and the light had already changed for traffic to move again. The officer had a solution – carry the man across! What a generous, kind, and considerate heart! Many people have seen this video clip on the news and YouTube, touching their hearts and inspiring them to find ways to help others.

Supreme Master Ching Hai has talked about how challenging it is to be a police officer. She has praised them for their courage and bravery in dealing with dangerous situations. She has also been so touched by officers who were kind to Her, offered Her assistance, and promised to protect Her and watch out for Her safety. She wrote a poem in tribute to these beautiful souls. Poem by Supreme Master Ching Hai: “ ‘The Quiet Hero’” (To all the good policemen) In the freezing wintry gust You stand tall like a colossal Greek statue The ocean storm seems to veer away from you Awed by that indomitable courage! In the sweltering haze of summer-noon Your dignified smile diffuses complaints The high sun would take flight, shy of your endurance. In the chaos of traffic hour Your assuring arms restore order Never expecting a thanks.”

Nearly all police work is unseen by the public, so we are grateful to hear the beautiful news of police in action - protecting and helping the community. God bless all the officers that they may be kept safe and feel the love and respect of the people they serve.
