Healing through Playing with Art: Art Therapist Joan Stanford (vegan), Part 1 of 3

Healing through Playing with Art: Art Therapist Joan Stanford (vegan), Part 1 of 3

According to the British Association of Art Therapists, art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its primary mode of expression and communication. Art is not used as a diagnostic tool but as a medium to address emotional issues, which may be confusing and distressing. We are honored to feature and interview with Joan Stanford, a vegan board-certified art therapist, who will graciously introduce us to the practical uses and positive effects of art therapy. “The directive that I was taught in my training was to hold it in your hands as though it was your heart or you. Something, so you’re very gentle with it. Like you spent five minutes just holding clay in your hands and manipulating it in some fashion. How did that make you feel? And often, people cry because it’s a tactile medium, so it’s a very early stage in our development, pre-verbal and all of that, and it just opens up things.” “A dramatic example I remember was with a young boy that had night terrors. He had a really horrific thing happen in his life. And I asked him to, on this piece of paper, put something symbolic of the fear, so he put… and then I said, ‘Well, now fold that up, hide it.’ So, he folded it up… but over the next few weeks, he stopped having the night terrors.”

Remember Your True Nature, Live Like a Saint, Part 1 of 5, Sep. 01, 2019

"Quan Yin Method, including the (inner Heavenly) Light and Sound, is the best for you — best for anyone because it is our Self Nature." Quan Yin and Quan Guang mean listening to your Self Nature inside in two forms: the inside Heavenly Light, which is your Buddha Nature or God Nature; and another condensed, more concentrated form of (inner Heavenly) Light is the (inner Heavenly) Sound, which is also your Original Nature or Buddha Nature or God Nature. Thus, we are one with the Buddhas in all directions. So, because we are one with the Buddhas, one with God, so we will be blessed. The more we know our Self, True Self, the more we'll be at peace with all beings and be loving to all beings. Of course! Because they also have the same Nature. "God made man in Hiers own image." The Bible said that. And the Buddha said that, "All beings have the same Buddha Nature." So that means Christianity, Buddhism, or any other good religion says the same thing, because the Masters, the founders of these religions knew the same things, realized the same things. But we should practice well, even if you've reached the Fifth Level already, please remember to keep the Five Precepts. Because the Five Precepts not only protect you, but protect other beings as well.

Ameliarose - A Vegan Music Star, Part 2 of 2

Ameliarose also told us about writing her first song at age 6, and how her compassion for the animals and the Earth is the driving force behind her music. She supports the vegan movement in many ways, including playing her music at vegan vestivals and being a representative for Vegan Teen.net. Ameliarose, do you also promote veganism as a way to save our planet?“Yean, Well, I think we only have one planet and we’ve been destroying it very, very badly. And I think that if there’s any way we can combat the effects of that we should try.” “I think it just felt really natural to be vegan. And so, it was really easy to just kinda keep it going. And obviously I’m passionate about the environment and the animals and stuff like that. So, that was definitely a motivation for me too.” That was fabulous! We also hope Ameliarose's message of - to be who you are and be proud of the challenges that you have overcome, will benefit you. Her compassionate example will inspire more people to adopt the compassionate vegan diet.

From the White Buffalo Teachings by Chief Arvol Looking Horse, Part 1 of 2

Chief Arvol Looking Horse is the 19th generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe Bundle for the Great Sioux Nation. This, coupled with his sacred duty as spiritual leader for the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota Nations, inspired him to work for a profound change in the world toward peace and increased recognition of the Indigenous peoples' beautiful way of life. Among his many harmonizing efforts are the establishment in 1996 of the annual World Peace and Prayer Day on June 21, and his important book "White Buffalo Teaching." Chief Arvol Looking Horse's book "White Buffalo Teaching" shares ancient Indigenous wisdom, prophecies and warnings about this crucial time on our planet, a time that requires our clear and unwavering choice for a positive world change. Let us now read an excerpt from the eye-opening insights by the honorable Chief Arvol Looking Horse. "OUR RELATIVES, THE ANIMAL NATIONS, REFLECT OUR OWN WELL-BEING. The buffalo, wolf, salmon, bear, caribou, eagle, whale, dolphin and many other sacred relatives in this fragile ecosystem are all in danger and are suffering. We, the Indigenous Nations, see what our brother Animal Nations are going through, since we are all connected, we are all One. WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM, HAPPENS TO US!" "EACH OF US IS PUT HERE IN THIS TIME AND THIS PLACE TO PERSONALLY DECIDE THE FUTURE OF HUMANKIND."

Telling "We Animals" Stories: Interview with Jo-Anne McArthur (vegan), Part 1 of 4

Jo-Anne McArthur, a Shining World Compassion Award Recipient, is a Canadian award-winning photojournalist, humane educator, animal rights activist, and author. “My name is Jo-Anne McArthur and I’m a photojournalist. I’m also the founder of the We Animals project, and that started over 15 years ago. It was me with a camera, going around the world, documenting our relationship with animals. But now, what it is, is We Animals Media. We are a small group of filmmakers, photographers, journalists telling the stories of animals worldwide.” “I thought it would be a really big deal to give up meat-eating. I thought it would be a big sacrifice, but what I learned is that it’s the opposite – it’s very freeing to live in line with my ideology, which is to not cause harm to anyone. And so eventually, when I became vegan, I felt quite freed. I think being vegan is a liberating way to live.” “What I find exciting about the camera is that it’s a tool for change. It shines light on all of these industries that are functioning behind walls, windowless walls. These are places that, for the most part around the world, we’re not allowed to see. Because if we were to see, people would not support that kind of cruelty.”

The Wonderful World of Whales

00:17:52

The Wonderful World of Whales

We whales are mysterious beings and one of the oldest aquatic mammals in our world. Although we live in the oceans, 50 million years ago, our ancestors lived on land. Today, we are living almost everywhere in the world’s oceans, from the North to the South Pole. We have a lot of human-like features - we breathe air, have a little hair, are warm-blooded, and feed our babies with milk. There are two main families: baleen and toothed whales. Baleen whales are generally huge, especially the great blue whale, considered the biggest animal in the world. The biggest of the toothed whale family are my cousins, the sperm whales. They are known for having the largest brain in the world. Beluga whales, the only white-colored whales, thus also known as white whales, live in the Arctic Ocean. They live and migrate in pods. Another talent they have is being able to swim backward. More and more studies prove that whales are essential to the marine ecosphere and help maintain our earth’s health. We are some of the most intelligent and compassionate inhabitants of the ocean. We help to mitigate climate change by boosting the production of phytoplankton that absorb 40% of the CO2 in the air and release 50% of the oxygen found in our atmosphere.

Selections from Saints Alive by Hilda Charlton (vegetarian): Chapter One – The Garden of Master Jesus, Part 2 of 2

“Jesus appeared outside a bus one day when I was grumbling about the heat of the Orient and the dirt and the dust on the bus. Flying along outside the window was my Jesus, and what He said is for all of us. He said, ‘No, no, not Crucifixion for you. A life more abundant I come to bring.’ He spoke of many things that were abundant. He means everything - your physical world abundant, your emotional world cleaned up, your mental world clear. Everything abundant. Not Crucifixion for us! He did that job and left. He said it very clearly that day. He said, ‘When I say abundant, I mean all planes.’ And so He does, if you know how to believe and call and trust.” “A Hindu girl says that no matter what a person does to her or who judges her or says mean things to her or how many mistakes she makes, there is One ever near, forgiving. ‘Forgiving, loving, compassionate,’ she says, ‘Jesus is always near.’ I just know that He forgives and He’s there to help, putting out His hand. He’s just so compassionate. I feel like He’s always watching over all of us to guide us and to help us and that with Jesus you can never go wrong because He’ll never forsake you.’”

Songs for the Earth

00:12:04

Songs for the Earth

As our world is facing imminent danger from the climate crisis, mainly caused by the livestock industry, and pandemic diseases from meat consumption, it's time for us to examine our behaviors, and encourage each other to turn from our destructive ways of living, and embrace a compassionate lifestyle. Our survival depends on this. Musicians around the world have been inspired to touch our hearts with this message. Today, we will present three of these compositions in multiple languages. The first song is entitled, "Under the Sky." Written by Yi Zi and Yu Zhuo-Er, and released after the breakout of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China. The song asks hard questions, such as how heavy a burden can the Earth bear? How much loss can we suffer in a lifetime? It also reminds people that all life deserves respect, including that of the animals. The next song, "I Feel Alive," is a Hindi song, expressing the joy of being one with the Universe. "Unfolding myself Into this universe By being a part of it, I love listening to the Awesome stories that dwell within it. My heart is always happy happy Sometimes it jumps and sometimes dives. 24/7 all the time." Our last song is entitled, "Save Our Planet Now" by Sahi. "Save our Planet. Save it now. Save the forests on this Earth. Save them now. We need the forests on this Earth. Save the oceans on this Earth. Save them now. We need the oceans on this Earth."

Saving the Gran Chaco Forest with Fiorella Migliore

00:17:10

Saving the Gran Chaco Forest with Fiorella Migliore

In today’s program, we will introduce Fiorella Migliore, a Paraguayan model, beauty queen, actress, television presenter and vegan activist. Fiorella, or Fio, won the 2008 Miss Italia Paraguay and the 2012 Miss World Paraguay. Learning about the direct impact of our food choice on the environment and health first-hand, Fio felt obliged to raise awareness about it to her fellow Paraguayans, so she partnered with Kip Anderson to produce a documentary, From Paraguay With Love. Paraguay With Love focuses on the environmental and humanitarian crisis happening in Paraguay due to “The Green Revolution,” Which is the rapid expansion of soy agri-faming in the Gran Chaco Forest, the second largest forest in South America next to the Amazon. Fio hopes to educate the public on their food choices, which has caused the deforestation of Paraguay, and has forced more than 585,000 people to leave their land in the last ten years. Also, the health-hazards of pesticides have caused many serious diseases, and even deaths. We are hopeful that Fio’s message will be heard and that it will create a ripple effect on farming, as more farmers are switching from livestock raising to organic vegetable farming, not only in Paraguay but all around the world.

Selections from Saints Alive by Hilda Charlton (vegetarian): Chapter One – The Garden of Master Jesus, Part 1 of 2

Hilda Charlton was an extraordinary being. She taught classes for more than 23 years in New York City, giving practical lessons to thousands of seekers, about living a life of truth, courage and love. Hilda’s teachings stressed the importance of self-mastery, giving and forgiving, unconditional love, and remembrance of God. Hilda Charlton’s book “Saints Alive” is a collection of extraordinary classes she gave at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City. She spoke with love, wisdom and humor of the Saints and holy people who were a living part of her life. The book also includes practical lessons on how to live a life of truth, courage, and love. We now share with you an excerpt from Chapter One - The Garden of Master Jesus from “Saints Alive.” “The Planetary Beings and all of those teachers I mentioned, all work in harmony for the One God. Only down here do we separate into little groups and call ourselves names and make separations. And if there’s any separation in any of your hearts tonight, put there by some stupidity, let’s wipe it out tonight and go away free souls that can look at the sky and know that we are free in the Infinite Absolute God Almighty, that we’re not bound by anything or anyone.”

Hula Dance, the Spirit of Hawaii, Part 2 of 2

Hula Dance, the Spirit of Hawaii, Part 2 of 2

As mentioned in the previous episode, Hawaiian mythologies, history, genealogies, and traditions were passed down from generation to generation through chant, or “oli,” and accompanying dance called “hula.” Today we are honored to have on our show Kumu Hula (master hula teacher) and choreographer, Ms. Nawahine Kuraoka. Ms. Kuraoka is here to share with us her knowledge of the beautiful hula dance. “We all got to love hula as much as we love our family, as hula is part of our life. And hula is not just hula. Hula is life for us. Everything is Hula.” “We talk about the ancient ways of hula Kahiko with ipu, ipu heke and the pahu drum. And we use these instruments to dance ancient hula.” “Everything is alive, living plants, living hula, that’s what we do. Living hula each and every day, from morning to sunset. We thank God each and every day with ‘pule’ or pray to give thanks for all that we have. That's why I tell a lot of people, ‘Don't take for granted where you live, that we are so lucky, so lucky!’”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipienst: Chilis on Wheels - Michelle and Ollie Carrera

Michelle Carrera is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the non-profit organization, Chilis on Wheels. Her son, Ollie Carrera, is the Co-Founder and Director of Kids Outreach. Together, they run a free vegan food delivery service for the homeless, Chilis on Wheels, which has quickly blossomed into a substantial charitable organization, with thirteen chapters around the United States, from New York City to San Diego, all the way to Honolulu and Puerto Rico. They estimate that over thirty-eight thousand vegan meals have already been served, and that number continues to grow. Michelle believes each meal builds relationships that will sustain and support people in the future. They also give out free personal care items that are not tested on animals. They also organize clothing drives to offer free clothing, blankets, personal items, etc. These events bring the community together with a message of compassion for animals and kindness for all species. Upon learning about Michelle and Ollie’s noble efforts, our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai stated “gratefully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Michelle Carrera and Ollie with love and a humble US$15,000 contribution towards their noble work, in God’s blessing. May you inspire more people to show their love in action for each other.”

From Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations: Book 2, Part 2 of 2

Today, we continue with “Book 2” from Marcus Aurelius’ “Meditations.” While emphasizing the ephemeral nature of all things, the wise emperor highlights the importance of focusing on one’s power within, and respecting the Divine reality of the present. “You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think. If the gods exist, then to abandon human beings is not frightening; the gods would never subject you to harm.” “And how man grasps God, with what part of himself he does so, and how that part is conditioned when he does. Nothing is more pathetic than people who run around in circles, ‘delving into the things that lie beneath’ and conducting investigations into the souls of the people around them, never realizing that all you have to do is to be attentive to the power inside you and worship it sincerely.” “To worship it is to keep it from being muddied with turmoil and becoming aimless and dissatisfied with nature - divine and human. What is divine deserves our respect because it is good; what is human deserves our affection because it is like us. And our pity too, sometimes, for its inability to tell good from bad - as terrible a blindness as the kind that can’t tell white from black.”

Beautiful Babylon: Magnificent Jewel of the Ancient World

00:15:06

Beautiful Babylon: Magnificent Jewel of the Ancient World

Four thousand years ago, a small port town was founded on the Euphrates River. The humble Babylon grew into one of the largest cities of its time, eventually serving as the capital of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, a beautiful, mighty center of art, architecture, and science. Home to the Hanging Gardens, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, as well as an important reflection of ancient Mesopotamian civilizations, Babylon was designated as a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site. The Babylonian cities were centers of great learning and produced writings on medicine, astrology, and mathematics. The ancient Babylonians had a mathematical system based on 60. Our current time division of the minute and the hour into sixtieth parts is an inheritance of this principle. Zodiac signs and zodiac figures were also passed down from ancient Babylon. The Lion of Babylon, a 2,600-year-old black basalt statue of a lion, remains in place. The statue symbolizes the strength of Babylonians and appears as an official emblem and in seals for both government agencies and private companies. Certainly, the extensive history and legends of magnificent, creative Babylon continue to inspire artistic, popular, and philosophical culture around the globe.

Munchies: Loving Vegan Fast Food, Part 2 of 2

Today we are bringing you back to Munchies to meet with Ms. Evita Ramparte, the Development Advisor of Munchies. “And years ago, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I was much, much bigger then, and sick, pimpled, in pain, unattractive and so on. And once I fasted and went on a vegan path of life, I healed pretty fast. In 4 months, I lost 83 pounds, and I became a model a few months later, and I became a vegan activist, promoting health and alternative healing for the world. So, Munchies is meeting people where they are with compassion, with understanding. We need to create food for children. And get that generation back into a plant-based lifestyle.” Mr. Raul Paiste elaborated more about his plant-based journey and what it has brought him in terms of spirituality. “I basically started meditating and I realized at some point that we are all, actually not just connected, but we are actually one. So, if I harm you, I harm myself, and I harm everyone else by that.” Not only does veganism bring about a spiritual awakening, but it can also stop the global climate crisis, thus saving our planet and humanity.
