Selections from the Writings of Chatral Sangye Dorje Rinpoche (vegetarian), Part 2 of 2 – Words of Advice

Today, we present to you an excerpt from the writings of Chatral Sangye Dorje Rinpoche, “Words of Advice.” “Listen well, my dear disciples who are gathered here, For all those whose hearts have not been spoiled, consider this: The chances of finding a human existence are one in a hundred. Now that you have found one, if you fail to practice the sublime Dharma, How could you possibly expect to find such an opportunity again? This is why it is crucial that you take advantage of your situation. Conceiving of your body as a servant or a thing to ferry you about, Do not allow it to rest in idleness for even a single moment; Use it well, spurring on your entire body, speech and mind to virtue. You might spend your whole life pursuing only food and clothing, With great effort and without regard for suffering or harmful deeds, But when you die you cannot take even a single thing with you – consider this well. The clothing and alms needed to keep you alive are all you need. You might dine on the finest meal of delicious meat and alcohol, But it all turns into something impure the very next morning, And there is nothing more to it all than that. So be content with life-sustaining provisions and simple clothes, And be a loser when it comes to food, clothing and conversation. If you do not reflect on death and impermanence, There will be no way to practice Dharma purely, Practice will remain an aspiration, one that is constantly postponed, And you may feel regret the day that death comes, but by then it will be too late!”

The Amazon Rainforest: A Jewel That Must Be Treasured, Part 1 of 2

00:19:09

The Amazon Rainforest: A Jewel That Must Be Treasured, Part 1 of 2

The Amazon rainforest is believed to have been formed during the Eocene Era some 55 million years ago. The rainforest encompasses 40 percent of the South American continent, extending across eight countries. The Amazon includes the drainage basin of the Amazon River, the world’s largest river by volume, with over 1,100 tributaries. The biodiversity of plants in the Amazon is considered the greatest on Earth, with as many as 80,000 plant species. Seventy five percent are endemic and can only be found in the Amazon. Many plant species in the rainforest serve as traditional medicine for the indigenous people. At least 41 different plant species in the Amazon in Brazil treat varying degrees of malaria, one of the tropics’ most fatal diseases. The native people also use the plants and trees as an important source of food and raw material for non-timber forest products. Did you know that the Amazon rainforest is known as the “lungs of the Earth?” Studies have shown that there is a direct correlation between the health of the Amazon and the health of our planet. An estimated 16,000 tree species and 390 billion individual trees exist in this amazing jungle. Moreover, 40,000 of the plant species found in the Amazon rainforest are known to play a critical role in regulating the global climate. However, this crucial life-sustaining rainforest is threatened by deforestation and global warming. “All the evidence points to that direction: ‘that if we stop animal raising our planet will cool down.’”

Remember Your True Nature, Live Like a Saint, Part 4 of 5, Sep. 01, 2019

“I said this is a place we come for group meditation, so we should try to keep the atmosphere, the energy pure for everyone to benefit. I really thank you for all your love. I feel it and I love it and I thank you. And this love makes people feel comfortable. Not this kind of attached love or binding love or small love. This is a universal love, unconditional love, and it’s very comfortable to feel that. At home, try also to be unconditional. Try to love each other unconditionally.” “Try to live like a Buddha. Even though you have not yet realized your own Buddha Nature, try to live like one. Try, at least try. Just think what the Buddha would do in this situation, what Jesus Christ would do in this situation, what other Masters would do in my situation. Try. And then slowly, you can get it. And if you don’t get it, at least you know you tried and you do not feel bad about yourself. ‘I am trying. I’m just human. I’m trying my best and pray the Masters help me, all the Masters help me.’ At least like that. At least you’re reminded of something noble, unconditional as the way you would want to live your life. That’s what you want. But you’re born in this world it’s very imperfect and it makes trouble for you. But you wanted that because it’s yourself you wanted to be noble, to be perfect. Try, at least. Try. It will make you feel comfortable, feel happier, and more contented.”

Selections from the Writings of Chatral Sangye Dorje Rinpoche (vegetarian), Part 1 of 2 – The Benefits of Saving the Lives of Other Beings

Tibetan Buddhism is a religion with a rich cultural heritage that emerged from a wide range of spiritual practices. Born in Tibet in 1913, Chatral Sangye Dorje Rinpoche left home as a young teen, traveling on foot to study and practice with several highly respected spiritual Masters of the time. As a strict vegetarian himself, Chatral Rinpoche also rescued millions of fish that had been destined for slaughter by purchasing them and then releasing them into a protected area of the Indian Ocean. During his life and since his passing at age 102, Chatral Sangye Dorje Rinpoche is considered among the most highly realized Tibetan Buddhist Masters. Today, we present to you an excerpt from the writings of Chatral Sangye Dorje Rinpoche, “The Benefits of Saving the Lives of Other Beings.” “And countless learned and accomplished masters of India and Tibet Have emphasized the value and importance of benefitting beings. The reasoning behind this is as follows: in this world, Nothing is as dear to someone as his or her own life, So there is no greater crime than taking life away, And no conditioned virtue bring greater merit Than the act of saving beings and restoring their lives. Lamas, officials, monks, nuns, men and women, In all the places over which you have control, Exert every influence and do all within your power To release animals and restore their lives, While encouraging others to do the same.”

Pandemics: The Key to Prevention, Part 1 of 3

Pandemics: The Key to Prevention, Part 1 of 3

In late December 2019, news of a strange new virus emerging in Southern China began to surface. The virus, it was reported, was highly contagious. The World Health Organization named it “coronavirus disease,” or “COVID-19.” COVID-19 proved to be extremely contagious and spread like wildfire through China’s massive population. On March 11,2020, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director General of the World Health Organization, declared the Virus to be a global pandemic, stating, “We are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and the severity. We have therefore made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a (global) pandemic.” The pandemic put much of the world on pause. Billions of people were “self-quarantined” for an indefinite period. Borders were closed, flights cancelled. With billions of hearts was an underlying sense of fear. According to medical research, COVID-19 is a zoonotic disease, an infectious disease transmitted from animals to humans. It is suspected that the COVID-19 virus originated in bats, was then transferred to pangolins or scaly anteaters, and finally to humans. Scientists have demonstrated that every pandemic the world has experienced over the past 100 years has originated from animals.

Honorable Governments, Honorable Citizens: Costa Rica, the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, and Croatia

Costa Ricans are friendly, easygoing and happy people. Costa Rica has opened its borders with loving arms to neighboring refugees in need. In addition, many far-sighted environmental policies have been put in place, coupled with expanded agriculture and the modernization of the nation. It has long been recognized as the greenest and happiest country in the world. Animal welfare in Costa Rica has also seen a great leap! The benevolent law symbolizes the loving kindness of Costa Ricans toward animals. One of the essential improvements undertaken by Côte d'Ivoire was its Emergency Infrastructure Renewal Project. Launched in 2012, this development has brought water and electricity to many homes. There have been many other positive changes in Côte d'Ivoirer in recent years, such as education and teacher training for women. A special focus is being placed on science and technology for women. Plant-based farming has become a staple for farmers in Côte d'Ivoire. Apart from its diverse and natural splendor, Croatia has been a beacon of light in both humanitarian and animal rights. As a European Union transit country for traveling refugees, Croatia has insisted on keeping its borders open for free passage as well as providing shelter and assistance for those with health issues. Croatia further extends its compassion toward animals. In early 2017, Croatia joined the Fur Free Alliance and implemented a full ban on fur farming. With a growing awareness of animal rights across the country, Croatia is also becoming more vegan-friendly.

Remember Your True Nature, Live Like a Saint, Part 3 of 5, Sep. 01, 2019

“So powerful, that it could even create a life. Because it’s so difficult to handle, to tame, or to use it for enlightenment practice. So, it is rarely used by true practitioners, as the negative side-effect is too great a risk to take. The Buddha knew that almost for certain, that all men will fail this method. Such a powerful force lies within our fragile and vulnerable physical, it’s just too much to handle, especially since we have been stripped of all knowledge of our divine Self Nature. We are stripped of all knowledge of our divine origin and our divine wisdom. Left alone to face all obstacles and troubles that are heaped on us by the negative power of maya.” “If lacking real protection, most beings succumb to this powerful force from within, the creative power, which is supposed to be used for a more noble purpose, for enlightenment and liberation.” So we rely on the inner Master Power, the physical inner Master Power, and the past and future Masters, all the time. If there was no Buddha in the world, no Saints, no enlightened person to help us with Their blessing, with Their compassion, we are doomed forever. If we can be reborn again as human, or even as animal, it’s already too good. Just worry we might be pushed too hard that we do the wrong thing, then we’ll be condemned to hell, maybe forever. But God is good, because Hes gives us so many methods to choose. But Quan Yin Method is the best.

Prophecy of the Golden Age Part 90 - Lord Kalki Avatar (vegetarian) and the New Satya Yuga

Prophecy of the Golden Age Part 90 - Lord Kalki Avatar (vegetarian) and the New Satya Yuga

According to the Hindu scriptures, Lord Kalki is to appear at the end of the Kali Yuga to defeat the evil demon Kali, thus opening the new Satya Yuga, the Golden Age. As we explore the Sri Kalki Purana and other Hindu texts, we'll find out more about Lord Kalki's deeds and some compelling resemblances with Supreme Master Ching Hai's mission today concerning the elimination of evil from our Earth. In the Sri Kalki Purana, Lord Shiva presents Lord Kalki with a horse, a parrot, and a sword, to equip Him on His mission. Let's explore the symbolic meaning of this part. In our times, a “horse” that can go anywhere and assume many forms might be an automobile on land, an airplane in the sky, a UFO in space, or perhaps an ethereal vehicle to traverse spiritual worlds. Supreme Master Ching Hai has travelled all over the globe, mostly by airplanes, for Her spiritual mission. “My birds have to remind me that something will happen. Or even the wilds, they tell me. So the animals are tremendous help to mankind. I just hope that one day the humans truly understand this and make use of their valuable resource that God has sent onto this planet for us.” “The sword that could drive away malevolent spirits - that means the wisdom. At the time of initiation, when you are imparted with this power, it's similar to the sword that cuts asunder all the things that have been ailing you, that have been troubling you, that have been attached to you and giving you trouble and obstructions in your life and making you separated from the Tao. That is the sword, the ‘sword of Manjushri,’ the ‘sword of wisdom.’ That doesn't mean a physical cutting knife.”

Climate Crisis: Our Oceans are Rising, Part 2 of 2

In today’s program, we will learn about the effects that Sea Level Rise (SLR) is having on our coastal communities, how it will affect the world in years to come, and what we can still do about it before it’s too late. A research paper entitled “World Scientists’ Warning of a Climate Emergency” was published in the January 2020 issue of BioScience. The Paper, written in collaboration with the American Institute of Biological Sciences, was ratified by 11,258 scientists from 153 countries. It identified six major solutions put forward as the last opportunity we have to reverse the climate change crisis. This includes: replacing fossil fuels with renewables, reducing climate pollutants such as methane and carbon, protecting and restoring our ecosystems – this means stopping land clearing, reducing meat consumption, moving away from an interest in improving GDP and loking at human health and well-being instead, and also slowing down and stabilizing human population growth. What this tells us, and what we can no longer ignore with over 11,000 scientists in agreement, is that the biggest cause of global warming is raising livestock animals. And therefore the single most important step this world needs to take is to stop eating animals and to adopt a plant-based lifestyle.

Wondrous Nature’s Gift: Holy Lotus, Part 3 of 3 – A Homely Meal with Lotus Leaf Rice Wrap, Ginseng Lotus Seed Soup, and Lotus Rhizome Starch Cake

The lotus symbolizes the purity of heart and mind, and its flower represents long life, health, honor and good luck. Many chefs have been inspired to create countless delicious recipes using the different parts of the lotus plant. Today, we will bring you to Taiwan, also known as Formosa, to see how grandma makes a delicious lotus meal for her grandchildren, who have been vegan since birth. The large and non-toxic lotus leaves are natural food wrappers. The leaves of some lotus varieties are fragrant, which provide additional flavor to the food. “The first dish is the Lotus Leaf Rice Wrap.” Since ancient times, the lotus seeds have been cherished as a precious food. Even to this day, it is a highly sought-after source of nourishment. “The second dish I will made is Ginseng Lotus Seed Soup. The Ginseng Lotus Seed Soup has been simmering for 20 minutes. While my grandchildren are not yet home, I will make a dessert. This dessert is called Lotus Rhizome Starch Cake. It is made from lotus rhizome starch.” The lotus not only enriches our life with its beauty and purity, it also inspires artists all over the world to render it in their works, such as poetry, paintings, and photography.

Remember Your True Nature, Live Like a Saint, Part 2 of 5, Sep. 01, 2019

So, if sex is also one of the 84,000 methods to practice, why didn't the Buddha ever mention it? He even told people, try not to follow the lustful temptation. Because He knew it is very dangerous. I've also written here. "It's a dangerous way because you could be entangled in its powerful pleasure and can't reach your goal, or even forget it altogether. In this physical world, sex is the most common, yet the most powerful force to reach enlightenment." It even can create human beings! Imagine how more powerful can any other power be! Create maybe not just one human, but many humans; create the whole world as you see it. Keep yourself busy if you are bothered by that powerful force of nature that was imparted within your being as one of the enlightening methods. Just be busy. Help others instead of thinking of yourself too much. If any desirous thoughts creep up in your mind, you cut, cut, cut. Think of something else, recite the Five (Holy) Names. Try as best as you can. Because this physical pleasure not only entangles you in a lower type of energy, but also expends your energy too much. Therefore, I mentioned all the Saints, they practice abstinence.

From the White Buffalo Teachings by Chief Arvol Looking Horse, Part 2 of 2

Today, we continue with reading a selection from Chief Arvol Looking Horse’s book “White Buffalo Teachings.” He emphasizes more on the importance and urgency of a global healing, so that we can secure a brighter future for the generations yet to come. “Our Instructions from Wakan Tankan (the Great Spirit, the Great Mystery) tell us to promote global healing, to teach peace and harmony to the many Nations of Mother Earth and to begin both a Great Healing and a Great Forgiving. We must teach all Peoples that Mother Earth is not a resource, but the very Source of Life itself. Unless we do this, the powers of destruction will overwhelm us. So our generation has been put here to save all future generations. That’s why we hold this World Peace & Prayer Day each year since 1996 (June 21), because two years before that the White Buffalo Calf was born among us as a Sign both of Warning and of Deliverance. In a Prophecy, we were told we would be the key people to re-educate our relatives, teaching the medicines of balance and harmony that our Mother Earth needs to survive. That’s why I say that we are at a Crossroads, each of us and all of us – a Crossroads predicted in our Prophecies.” “White Buffalo Calf Woman’s spirit has announced her message of support in this time of great danger, and she continues to announce the message in the birth of each White Buffalo – each one of them a Sign, each one a fulfillment of ancient Prophecy as well as a new Prophecy for our times.”
