Buddhism's Sacred Scripture: The Sutra of the Lotus of the Wonderful Dharma, Chapter 4, Part 4 of 6

Buddhism's Sacred Scripture: The Sutra of the Lotus of the Wonderful Dharma, Chapter 4, Part 4 of 6

Today, we would like to present an excerpt from Chapter 4 of this sutra – Belief and Understanding. “World-Honored One, this old man with his great riches is none other than the Tathagata, and we are all like the Buddha’s sons. The Tathagata constantly tells us that we are His sons. In addition, though we expounded and set forth the Buddha wisdom for the sake of the Bodhisattvas, we ourselves did not aspire to attain it. Why do I say this? Because the Buddha, knowing that our minds delight in lesser doctrines, employed the power of expedient means to preach in a way that was appropriate for us. So, we did not know that we were in truth the sons of the Buddha. But now, at least we know it. ‘With regard to the Buddha wisdom, the World-Honored One is never begrudging. Why do I say this? From times past, we have in truth been the sons of the Buddha, but we delighted in nothing but lesser doctrines. If we had the kind of mind that delighted in great ones, then the Buddha would have preached the Dharma of the Great Vehicle for us.’”

Friends of Eternity - A Special Gathering with Supreme Master Ching Hai and Cherished Artists, Part 24

Let's hear more from Ms. Williams-Crosby in her talk titled: “Making an Act of Conviction - With God[All] These Are Possible.” “Supreme Master Ching Hai. I want to thank You so much for allowing my family to be part of Your family. It’s a great blessing. And to be able to feel so much love and respect is a great gift. I stand here today because of an act of conviction that I made to God on September 19th, 1977. Well, I never looked back after that act of contrition. I’ve been a vegan for 40 years. I also now produce faith-based film shorts. And that’s my way of giving back by spreading God’s messages. So for me, I can’t get through a day unless I know I have connected. And Supreme Master Ching Hai, through all Your teachings, You have shown a great Light, inner pathway for people that have faith. Because then we get stronger and stronger.” “It's just like you want a strong body, you got to put a little resistance on those muscles to build. Our spirit needs a little resistance, a little trouble, so we can work through that. Because in times of great trouble, miracles do happen. Thank you.” “Wow! Very interesting.”

Traditional Musical Instrutment: The Ukrainian Bandura

The Bandura was believed to be a companion of humanity, producing heavenly reverberations to comfort our souls in this material world. This exceptional instrument originates from the spiritual culture of the ancient Sumero-Akkadian civilization. The Akkadians played early versions of the Bandura in their religious events as well as in festivities and for entertainment. Later, the charming instrument was introduced into eastern European countries. The beautiful bandura where several distinctly recognizable styles are used in performances. Many Ukrainian people considered these singing bandurists to be “God’s messengers,” or “vessels of God’s word.” Like their musical predecessors, modern-day folk bandurists assimilate melodies from a wide range of inspirations. Let’s now enjoy a delightful solo by a famous bandurist, Victor Mishalow, as he performs for the National Library of Australia Collection.

Buddhist Stories: The Story of Ananda, the Names of Hells, and the Praise of the Buddha, Part 5 of 11 Aug. 10, 2015

“Therefore, Universally Expansive, if you see people reading and reciting this sutra or even having a single thought of praise for it, or if you meet someone who reveres it, you should employ hundreds of thousands of expedient means to exhort such people to be diligent and not retreat.” “The relatives of those who recite, both old and young, now and in the future, will be apart from the Evil Paths.” “Universally Expansive, You should know of the beneficial deeds done by Earth Store Bodhisattva as He makes use of His indescribably many billions of great awesome spiritual powers. The beings of Jambudvipa have strong affinities with this Buddha.” They have to believe in it, to worship it, respect it, then they have benefit, because this sutra is not only the merit of the Earth Store Bodhisattva; it’s also this embodiment, blessed by the words of Shakyamuni Buddha as well. You see, double blessing. The Buddha did a good job, and all His friends, His sangha in collecting all this, because not everybody says all these things. Other sages, of course they teach Quan Yin Method is sufficient also. But this is for people who have no Mater, and no Quan Yin Method, and they’ll be reborn again and again. At least they will be reborn well, happy, protected.

Buddhism's Sacred Scripture: The Sutra of the Lotus of the Wonderful Dharma, Chapter 4, Part 3 of 6

“Later, he spoke to his son again, saying, ‘You must keep on at this work and not leave me anymore.’ By the end of this time, the son felt that he was understood and trusted, and he could come and go at ease. At that time, the rich man fell ill and knew he would die before long. He spoke to his impoverished son, saying, ‘I now have great quantities of gold, silver, and rare treasures, you are to take complete charge of the amounts I have. This is what I have in mind, and I want you to carry out my wishes. Because from now on, you and I will not behave as two different persons.’ After some time had passed, the father perceived that his son was bit by bit, becoming more self-assured, and despised his former low opinion of himself. Realizing that his own end was approaching, he proceeded to make this announcement: ‘This is my son, who was born to me. He abandoned me and run away, and for over fifty years he wandered about suffering hardship. This is in truth my son, and I in truth, am his father. Now everything that belongs to me, all my wealth and possessions, shall belong entirely to this son of mine.’ When the impoverished son heard these words of his father, he was filled with great joy, having gained what he never had before.”

Learning to Communicate with Plants: Interview with Mr. Alexandre Ferran, Part 3 of 3

Through his research, Mr. Ferran has discovered that plants learn, remember, feel, give, receive and share. He has also observed that they are highly sensitive to their environment, and that they perceive the world much differently than we do. Mr. Ferran believes that plants respond to us in different ways. If we treat them with kindness and respect, they respect, they respond accordingly. He believes that, as our level of consciousness rises, humans will become more and more sensitive to everything around us. Mr. Ferran hopes that, one day, humans will be able to communicate with plants without the need of electrical devices. “It’s important to try to work on that. Because human time is counted.” We already know that plants, by their very presence, contribute to our physical, mental and emotional well-being. Supreme Master Ching Hai has reminded us many times that plants, especially trees, have healing powers, as well as other gifts.

Prison Animal Programs: Transforming Lives through Love

Some correctional facilities offer animal-assisted therapy as a form of treatment to selected inmates who demonstrate good behavior. Today, we find out about the benefits of these programs, how they work, and why they have been proven effective. In Australia, the Queensland Corrective Services runs the minimum-security Palen Creek Correctional Centre. The Centre works with a program that finds homes for greyhounds. Liam the greyhound was fostered by an inmate so he would become accustomed to life as an animal companion. Let’s now hear from Liam’s foster father at the Centre regarding his experiences as a program participant. “He’s also never judgmental; he’s happy no matter what your mood is and what you’re doing. So he’s happy to cruise around and smile and be with you. I think also having an animal involved in this program helps with the communication between officers and inmates.” Animals love us for who we are. Some animals even can touch individuals who do not show emotion, including the inmates sometimes referred to as the “tough guys” in incarceration facilities. Dogs and cats can help to teach prisoners about care and gentleness. Correctional facility-based animal programs save the lives of animals and aid inmates in growing in humanity and expanding their personal development.

Buddhist Stories: The Story of Ananda, the Names of Hells, and the Praise of the Buddha, Part 4 of 11 Aug. 10, 2015

“His strong voice reached to all the Bodhisattvas, Mahasattvas in those Buddha Lands. ‘Listen today as I praise Earth Store Bodhisattva Mahasattva, who displays an inconceivable awesome spiritual strength and compassionate power throughout the Ten Directions as He rescues and protects beings when things happen to them as they suffer for offenses they have committed. After I pass into Transquility, all of you Bodhisattvas, Mahasattvas and all of you gods, dragons, ghosts, spirits and others should use vast numbers of expedient devices to protect this Sutra and to cause all beings to testify to the bliss of Nirvana.’” “‘if in the future, good men or good women who, upon hearing Earth Store Bodhisattva Mahasattva’s name, place their palms together - praise Him, bow to Him, or gaze in worship, they will overcome thirty eon's worth of offenses.’” “‘Universally Expansive, if good men or good women gaze upon and bow but once to painted or drawn images of the Bodhisattva or ones made of clay or stone or lacquer or gold or silver or bronze; they will be reborn one hundred times in the Heaven of the Thirty-Three and will eternally avoid falling into the Evil Realms.’” This is all for the women or for the men who have no other method like Quan Yin Method or anything like that for liberation.

Prophecy of the Golden Age Part 75 - Zoroastrian Prophecies about Saoshyant, Earth's Final Savior (Zoroastrianism)

00:27:29

Prophecy of the Golden Age Part 75 - Zoroastrian Prophecies about Saoshyant, Earth's Final Savior (Zoroastrianism)

Supreme Master Ching Hai also fits the Avesta’s definition of World-renovator, as She did “establish the physical living existence indestructible” when She saved our planet from annihilation for an indefinite amount of time. Could Supreme Master Ching Hai be the Saoshyant, the Final Savior of the Earth? “Rest assured that the planet will stay much longer, hundreds of millions of years and I have made an arrangement with Heaven that the planet Earth stays as long as she wants. And as long as forever, as long as forever if she likes. That was today, that was today, the covenant, yes, covenant.” Interestingly, the Holy Avesta actually refers to the “renovation of the universe,” not just our planet. “It’s not just the world anymore, OK? Not just this world, but many worlds and the universe.” “He brings the land of hell back for the enlargement of the world; the renovation arises in the universe by [Ahura Mazda’s] will…” “You can move Heaven and Earth as well, not just move mountains.”

His Holiness Marpa Lotsawa (vegetarian): Remarkable Tibetan Buddhist Master, Part 4 of 4

Around when Marpa Lotsawa was in his 50s, He departed on a third and final voyage to India. Marpa received the final teachings and instructions which were the innermost essence in Pullahari Monastery. Marpa completed a further three years of training and Naropa formally declared Marpa to be His Dharma successor. Upon His return to Tibet, He gave Milarepa every initiation that He had received. Marpa worked very hard to establish the Kagyu lineage in Tibet. He spent many years translating Buddhist scriptures and established a Buddhist Monastery in Zanskar. He gave teachings and transmissions of the complete Buddhadharma to many students in Tibet, including Milarepa. Not only did Marpa translate Sanskrit to Tibetan, but He brought Buddhism to Tibet. Marpa studied, practiced, and translated for over 40 years to make His experiences available to others. Marpa Lotsawa passed away in 1097 at the age of 84. Master Marpa’s incredible selflessness, devotion, and wisdom continue to elevate Buddhists and Truth seekers.

Buddhist Stories: The Story of Ananda, the Names of Hells, and the Praise of the Buddha, Part 3 of 11 Aug. 10, 2015

And now we come to “The Names of Hells.” “In Eastern Jambudvipa, is a mountain range called Iron Ring. The mountain is pitch black because the light of the sun and moon do not shine on it. A great hell is located there named Ultimately Uninterrupted. …Within the Iron Ring are endless hells like that. There is also the hell of Crying Out, the hell of Pulling Tongues, ….” “Each of those hells contains lesser hells numbering from one or two or three or four to hundreds of thousands. Each of those lesser hells has its own name. Such are the karmic responses of beings in Jambudvipa who commit evil deeds. The power of karma is extremely great. It rivals Mount Sumeru in its heights. It surpasses the great oceans in its depth. It obstructs the path leading to sagehood. For that reason, beings should never think that minor bad deeds are unimportant or assume that they do not count as offenses. After death, there will be retributions to undergo that cover all those details.” “To inflict these retributions in each hell, hundreds of thousands of instruments made of copper, iron, stone, or fire arise from karmic forces. Those four materials come into being in response to the kinds of karma offenders created. How much more would that be the case for the sufferings in all the many hells? If I were to speak in detail, it would take eons.”

From the Sacred Text of the Universal White Brotherhood: Peace Be with You, Part 2 of 2

Today, we continue with excerpts from Master Beinsa Douno’s lecture titled, “Peace Be with You.” We’ll explore, through a beautiful example from the Master, how one could join the Heavenly Concert Hall of the Lord by tuning in one’s own soul, heart, and mind to the Divine harmony of the Universe. “Resurrection is a process which the Spirit of God performs in our life, a grand process, through which God restores that primordial Harmony. One day, when your ears open and you begin to listen a little more and further away than you listen now, you will notice that throughout the whole universe there is a movement of certain tones which the objects – the springs, the trees, the leaves – emit, and you will hear majestic (inner Heavenly) Music which spreads from one end of the world to the other, and then you will understand the inner meaning of life. And Christ, through His resurrection, wishes to introduce you into this Concert Hall. He will pay for you, He will give you each a ticket, but will you have an ear to understand this Divine music when you enter that Hall and see that concert, that playing?”

Friends of Eternity - A Special Gathering with Supreme Master Ching Hai and Cherished Artists, Part 23

“Supreme Master, thank You so much for having us here. It’s a really wonderful experience. And before we play the next piece, I just wanted to recount an experience that I had a couple of days ago. I was looking at some of Your artwork that You’ve made over the years and some of the photographs that You’ve taken, and I was having a conversation with two of Your disciples. And they were explaining to me in great detail, Your creative process and how You went about taking these photographs and making these paintings. And the energy that they exuded when they were having this conversation with me, impacted me in a way that was, I would say transcendent. I felt after speaking with them and experiencing, like the competence and the kindness and the compassion with which they spoke, I became like almost physically kind of elated. …So, I just want to say that the inspiration that You share with Your disciples and the people here is truly magical. And thank You so much for all that You do.” “And now ‘I Will Forever Love You’ and these words are very important and very comforting." Wow! Enchanting! Let’s all show our warm appreciation for Kerry and Michan Walsh.

The Adorable American Pika

00:14:16

The Adorable American Pika

Hallo, My name is Lucas, and I’m a vegan American pika from Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. There aren’t many other mammals in Canada or the US who can survive in mountains above the timberline the way we do. We are related to rabbits and hares, but we’re smaller. Our extraordinary hearing and eyesight allow us to be constantly aware of our surroundings and ready for unexpected events. Though maintaining separate homes, pikas like to live together as a group, so we can help protect each other. We are not picky eaters and enjoy a variety of plants, including different kinds of grass, sedge, bayberry, clover, thistle, and weeds. Some humans have begun to use our activity as an indicator of global warming in western North America. Other species that live in mountains can move up higher if the climate gets warmer. Pikas are already so close to the top that we would have nowhere to go. Please awaken your loving kindness, not only for American pikas, but for all of Earth’s inhabitants.

Buddhist Stories: The Story of Ananda, the Names of Hells, and the Praise of the Buddha, Part 2 of 11 Aug. 10, 2015

“There was a bhiksu who had adopted a sami (sramanera). Every day, he made him learn the sutras by heart, very diligently on time, and never failed.” “Next day, the sami (sramanera) was going out begging again. He was walking and crying at the same time. Then one of the rich persons in that region came and asked him, ‘Why are you crying, monk?’ ‘My Master is too strict to me. If I recite it on time and fulfill the schedule, then He is very happy. If not, then he is very cranky, scolding me. Going out for alms is not always precise. Some days they don’t give or give very little, then I have to go farther. And then when I come home, it’s late. I have no time to fulfill the schedule. So I am very sad. That’s why I’m crying.’ ‘So from today then, you just come to my house.’” “So since then, he always goes there and has everything he needs, and Master and disciple, very, very happy, happy, happy!” So the Buddha said, “The sami (sramanera) at that time is the past reincarnation of myself. The noble gentleman who offered food every day to the Master and disciple, that was Ananda.” In a Chinese idiom, they say, “Strict masters produce the best disciples, excellent disciples.” So maybe because the Master was so strict, so Ananda, life after life has such a good memory, and good point!
