Buddhism's Sacred Scripture: The Sutra of the Lotus of the Wonderful Dharma, Chapter 4, Part 3 of 6

Buddhism's Sacred Scripture: The Sutra of the Lotus of the Wonderful Dharma, Chapter 4, Part 3 of 6

“Later, he spoke to his son again, saying, ‘You must keep on at this work and not leave me anymore.’ By the end of this time, the son felt that he was understood and trusted, and he could come and go at ease. At that time, the rich man fell ill and knew he would die before long. He spoke to his impoverished son, saying, ‘I now have great quantities of gold, silver, and rare treasures, you are to take complete charge of the amounts I have. This is what I have in mind, and I want you to carry out my wishes. Because from now on, you and I will not behave as two different persons.’ After some time had passed, the father perceived that his son was bit by bit, becoming more self-assured, and despised his former low opinion of himself. Realizing that his own end was approaching, he proceeded to make this announcement: ‘This is my son, who was born to me. He abandoned me and run away, and for over fifty years he wandered about suffering hardship. This is in truth my son, and I in truth, am his father. Now everything that belongs to me, all my wealth and possessions, shall belong entirely to this son of mine.’ When the impoverished son heard these words of his father, he was filled with great joy, having gained what he never had before.”

From the Sacred Text of the Universal White Brotherhood: Peace Be with You, Part 2 of 2

Today, we continue with excerpts from Master Beinsa Douno’s lecture titled, “Peace Be with You.” We’ll explore, through a beautiful example from the Master, how one could join the Heavenly Concert Hall of the Lord by tuning in one’s own soul, heart, and mind to the Divine harmony of the Universe. “Resurrection is a process which the Spirit of God performs in our life, a grand process, through which God restores that primordial Harmony. One day, when your ears open and you begin to listen a little more and further away than you listen now, you will notice that throughout the whole universe there is a movement of certain tones which the objects – the springs, the trees, the leaves – emit, and you will hear majestic (inner Heavenly) Music which spreads from one end of the world to the other, and then you will understand the inner meaning of life. And Christ, through His resurrection, wishes to introduce you into this Concert Hall. He will pay for you, He will give you each a ticket, but will you have an ear to understand this Divine music when you enter that Hall and see that concert, that playing?”

From the Sacred Text of the Universal White Brotherhood: Peace Be with You, Part 1 of 2

The spiritual lineage of the Universal White Brotherhood was founded by Master Beinsa Douno, also known as Peter Konstantinov Deunov, of Bulgaria, in 1897. Master Beinsa Douno taught that the qualities of humility, obedience, honesty, goodness, intelligence and nobility are foremost in spiritual practice. He explained that one should walk the path of Love, Wisdom, and Truth. The Universal White Brotherhood believes that God is in everything: in the stones, the plants, the water, the air, the animals, and the light. Master Beinsa Douno practiced and preached a vegetarian diet. Today, we present to you the sacred teachings of the Universal White Brotherhood from one of Master Beinsa Douno’s lectures titled, “Peace Be with You.” We will understand more about how we can make “music” out of the difficulties in life by tuning the soul to a higher Divine order. “In human nature there are, we said, four temperaments – choleric, phlegmatic, sanguine and nervous – these are four states within man. They correspond to the human soul, mind, heart and life. There are four main strings which we should know how to tighten and relax. …through the Spirit of the Conductor Who will raise His baton, we will create the most pleasant Music in our life.”

How Suffering Can Lead Us to Happiness, Part 1 of 3 Sydney, Australia – March 16, 1993

“Now, in this world, we have found a lot of suffering as well as happiness, and most of the people would like to know why there is suffering and how to find happiness. The question to me is not to eliminate so much of the suffering and not to gain more happiness but to gain the Supreme Power, through which we see happiness and suffering as just a stage play, and then we will see things in life just as we see the movies. We may have a little emotion through the characters in the movies, but we will not be overwhelmed by this emotion, and get drowned in this emotion. So, therefore, the difference between a so-called enlightened person and a so-called non-enlightened person is the strength, is the outlook for the different phenomena in this world as well as the world beyond.” “After enlightenment, you will be just the same as before, but there is only one difference: it’s that you accept everything that comes to you, and everything that’s given to you is holy, and everyone else is holy…. So long as we still want to seek peace and happiness within ourselves, and to grant this happiness to other people, we need enlightenment.”

Born in India in 1882, Pir-O-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan had a brilliant talent for singing and music that was recognized since he was a child and earned him a professorship before he turned 20. After destiny led him to a brief but happy period with his Sufi teacher, the young Hazrat Inayat Khan was entrusted to spread the wisdom of Sufism in the West. If you will go forward to find Us, We will come forward to receive you. Give Us all you have, and We shall give you all We possess. In man We have designed Our image; in woman We have finished it. In man We have shown Our nature benign; in woman We have expressed Our art divine. God is the answer to every question. Make God a reality, and God will make you the truth.”

Christ Consciousness: Excerpts from the Edgar Cayce Readings, Part 2 of 2

“In the soul’s expression and its purposes for entering in this particular experience, in the sojourn through experience or time, we find those influences that have made for that awareness within the mental, the soul-being, of that oneness of purpose through which Creative Energy has prepared that channel, that way in which the soul – as the companion with the Creative Forces – may become more and more aware of its at-oneness with the Christ Consciousness in materiality. In the preparation, as we have given, each must so examine self that there be that in the heart, the soul of each, that each would present as a manifestation of that each would have Him present in the relationships with self. For, as each seeks in its own way, there is given that which will enable each to gain a better concept of the Christ Conscioueness in activity.” “Know first, in the spiritual attitude, as ye attempt to analyze self and self’s abilities, self’s faults, self’s virtues, that the nearer ye may build thy mind to the Christ Consciousness the better may be the mental being, and a great deal of strength may be gained in the physical being also….”

Christ Consciousness: Excerpts from the Edgar Cayce Readings, Part 1 of 2

Internationally known clairvoyant Edgar Cayce was called “The Sleeping Prophet”due to the seemingly “deep sleep” he entered before he started a prophecy. Born in Kentucky, USA in 1877, Edgar’s psychic abilities first appeared as a child. Today we’ll explore some of Edgar Cayce’s insightful readings about the Worshipped Lord Jesus and the Christ Consciousness which awaits to be awakened in everyone by the sacred, all-creating Word of God. “Ye are made strong, – in body, in mind, in soul and purpose, – by that power in Christ. The POWER, then, is in the Christ. The PATTERN is in Jesus.” “In the Christ Consciousness, then, there is the oneness of self, self’s desires, self’s abilities, made in at-onement with the forces that may bring to pass that which is sought by an individual entity or soul....” “Not that this is not attainable, but one grows to that consciousness in the application of the faith in and the consciousness of being at-one with the Divine that is within....”

“Prayers and Meditations” by Bahá'u'lláh (vegetarian): Sections 16 to 23, Part 2 of 2

The Arabic word Bahá means “glory” or “splendor.” The Bahá’i Faith rests on three main concepts, also known as the “three onenesses”: unity of God, unity of religion, and unity of humankind. These concepts emphasize that while the names for God as well as religions, and cultures may differ, all are equal and ultimately united as one. “Praised be Thou, O Lord my God! I am Thy servant and the son of Thy servant. I have set my face towards Thy Cause, believing in Thy oneness, acknowledging Thy unity, recognizing Thy sovereignty and the power of Thy might, and confessing the greatness of Thy majesty and glory. I ask Thee, by Thy name through which the Heaven was cleft asunder, and the Earth was split in two, and the mountains were crushed, not to withhold from me the breezes of Thy mercy which have been wafted in Thy days, nor to suffer me to be far removed from the shores of Thy nearness and bounty. I am he who is sore athirst, O my Lord! Give me to drink of the living waters of Thy grace.”

“Prayers and Meditations” by Bahá'u'lláh (vegetarian): Sections 16 to 23, Part 1 of 2

Born in 1817 in Tehran, Persia, or present-day Iran, Bahá’u’lláh was the enlightened Prophet and founder of the Bahá’I Faith. He and His teachings are believed to be prophesied in Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and other religions. Today, we present to you a selection from “Prayers and Meditations” by Bahá’u’lláh. “Praise be to Thee, O Lord my God! Thou see my tears and lamentations, and hear my sighing, my cries and bitter wailing. Shield us, then, O my God, from the mischief of Thine enemies, and assist us to help Thy Faith, and to protect Thy Cause, and to celebrate Thy glory. Thou art, truly, He Who from everlasting hath inhabited the inaccessible heights of His unity, and will continue to remain the same for ever and ever. Nothing whatsoever escapes Thy knowledge, nor is there anything that can frustrate Thee. No God is there beside Thee, the Almighty, the Ever-Faithful, the Most Exalted, the All-Glorious, the Best-Beloved. Lauded and glorified art Thou, in Whose hand is the empire of all things!”

Selections from My Religion by Leo Tolstoy (vegetarian): Chapter II, Part 2 of 2

Selections from My Religion by Leo Tolstoy (vegetarian): Chapter II, Part 2 of 2

Tolstoy illuminated the principle that true Christian doctrine is against violent retaliation and that we should instead do good in return for evil. Forgive not once, but endlessly. Love your enemies and be good to those who dislike you. Tolstoy also highlighted that Jesus’ primary message was to be truly human, to rise to a higher level and be born into the new life of the spirit. By embracing the higher law of love, we will be able to break the cycle of violence. We should like to share an insightful excerpt from Chapter Ⅱ of “My Religion.” “The command, ‘Resist not evil,’ is the central point of Jesus’ doctrine. It is not a mere verbal affirmation; it is a rule whose practice is obligatory. When we regard it as a command impossible of performance, the value of the entire doctrine is lost. When we declare that one may be a Christian without observing the commandment, ‘Resist not evil,’ we simply leave out the connecting link which transmits the force of the doctrine of Jesus into action.”

Selections from My Religion by Leo Tolstoy (vegetarian): Chapter II, Part 1 of 2

“Everyone thinks of changing the world but no one thinks of changing himself.” This insightful saying by Leo Tolstoy is a good reminder for all of us to reflect inward. The renowned 19th-century Russian author suggested that we ask ourselves what God really wants us to do. Yearning for more than success, fame, and wealth, Leo Tolstoy eventually established himself as a moral philosopher and spiritual leader during the last 30 years of his life. In addition to adopting and promoting the vegetarian diet, he became a fervent Christian pacifist through an interpretation of the ethical teachings of Christ. My Religion is a book by Count Leo Tolstoy, completed in 1884. It is the follow up to his book, A Confession. These two volumes show his transition from existential questions about life to a firm belief in God and the spiritual principle of nonviolent resistance as described in the Gospels of the Holy Bible. “When I apprehended clearly the words ‘Resist not evil,’ my conception of the doctrine of Jesus was entirely changed; and I was astounded, not that I had failed to understand it before, but that I had misunderstood it so strangely. I knew, as we all know, that the true significance of the doctrine of Jesus was comprised in the injunction to love one’s neighbor. When we say, ‘Turn the other cheek,’ ‘Love your enemies,’ we express the very essence of Christianity.”

The Songs of Kabir (vegetarian): Selections from 1 to 26, Part 2 of 2

The Songs of Kabir (vegetarian): Selections from 1 to 26, Part 2 of 2

Music is all around it, and there the heart partakes of the joy of the Infinite Sea. Kabir says: “Dive thou into that Ocean of sweetness: thus let all errors of life and of death flee away.” Behold how the thirst of the five senses is quenched there! And the three forms of misery are no more! Kabir says: “It is the sport of the Unattainable One: look within, and behold how the moon-beams of that Hidden One shine in you.” There falls the rhythmic beat of life and death: Rapture wells forth, and all space is radiant with light. There the Unstruck Music is sounded; it is the music of the love of the three worlds. There millions of lamps of sun and of moon are burning; There the drum beats; and the lover swings in play. There love-songs resound, and light rains in showers; and the worshipper is entranced in the taste of the heavenly nectar. Look upon life and death; there is no separation between them, The right hand and the left hand are one and the same.

The Songs of Kabir (vegetarian): Selections from 1 to 26, Part 1 of 2

Kabir was a great Indian poet who was fully devoted to the Creator. He was a Saint who not only endeavored to live the Truth, He wrote about it through His divine gift of verse. A weaver by profession, Kabir is considered as one of the world’s greatest poets and one of the most quoted authors. Kabir’s message is universal. Perhaps that is why many still revere Kabir as a Saint, whether they are a Sikh, Hindu, Muslim or modern spiritual seekers. We would now like to invite you to be sublime in the beautiful spiritual poetry selected from “The Songs of Kabir.” “Bathe in the truth, know the true Guru, have faith in the true Name!” “The moon shines in my body, but my blind eyes cannot see it: The moon is within me, and so is the sun. The unstruck drum of Eternity is sounded within me; but my deaf ears cannot hear it. So long as man clamours for the I and the Mine, his works are as nothing: When all love of the I and the Mine is dead, then the work of the Lord is done.”

Selections from “Thus Spake the Holy Mother (vegetarian),” Part 2 of 2

Selections from “Thus Spake the Holy Mother (vegetarian),” Part 2 of 2

The Holy Mother is considered an uplifter of souls who maintained communion with God at all times, even while engaging in various daily activities. To her disciples, she was a teacher who removed their doubts, a mother whose loving kindness brought comfort, and a Divine presence that assured them of spiritual liberation. We now would like to share with you the uplifting sayings of Sri Sarada Devi, through an excerpt from “Thus Spake The Holy Mother.” “Spiritual practice means to keep the mind steady at His lotus feet and to be absorbed in His thoughts. When the desire arises in the mind to know anything, then pray to Him alone in a lonely place with tears in your eyes. He will remove all dirt and sorrow from your mind and will make you understand everything. Always discriminate. Try to realize that the outside object which is attracting your mind is impermanent, and turn your attention to God. Always try to do the Lord’s work and at the same time try to practice Japa (repeating holy mantras or God’s name) and meditation.”

Selections from “Thus Spake the Holy Mother (vegetarian),” Part 1 of 2

Sri Sarada Devi, the Holy Mother, was the Divine consort and first disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa. She conveyed a motherly simplicity, grace, quiet dignity, purity, selflessness, and all-embracing compassion, all of which provided comfort to her disciples and devotees. The Holy Mother is revered by Hindus as much as the mystic Sri Ramakrishna. She is thus worshipped and admired as one of the most important Saint mothers of all times. “Thus Spake The Holy Mother” is a compilation of the sayings of Sri Sarada Devi. This collection offers illumination and guidance for the soul yearning to re-connect with the Divine. “When will the grace of God descend on me? There is no such rule that grace of God will fall on one simply because one is practicing austerities. How does one get the vision of God? It is only through His grace. But one must practice meditation and Japa. That removes impurities from the mind. One must practice spiritual disciplines such as worship and so forth.”

Rebuilding the Foundation of Sustainability Through Compassion: An Interview with Dr. Sailesh Krishna Rao (vegan), Part 3 of 3

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” These words from Mahatma Gandhi are frequently quoted by Dr. Sailesh Rao, who puts much emphasis on the transformation needed to realize his goal of World Vegan by 2026. “So we do that and then every week in Phoenix, we have an interfaith vegan church service that happens, where we draw from different faiths. We draw from Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, you name it. And we are showing how our scriptures’ foundation is compassion for all life.” “I see a beautiful world in front of us, where we are all working together to regenerate the forest, to bring back the animals, to clean up the ocean, to clean up all the water. And then we look back at what has happened and we feel proud to be a species that does belong on Earth. We feel proud to have done our job.”

The Call of Cosmic Evolution: Excerpts from “Leaves of Morya's Garden” by Spiritual Messengers Nicholas and Helena Roerich (vegetarians), Part 2 of 2

“I bestow My Wisdom upon you. I am not a bridge built of promises, but verily the Light that calls to you. I teach love. My disciples must realize happiness in the love of Christ. Love can create universes. Love and Wisdom are equal.” “I expound happiness. I shall designate the path for the battle against the bazaar that is the present world. People have reached a dead end, but lightning will reveal the way out, And thunder will arouse the slumberers. Mountains have crashed to earth. Lakes have been drained of their waters. Cities have been engulfed by floods. Hunger shows its face. Yet has the spirit of humanity remained unmoved. Go, teach, stretch out the hand of aid! Seek happiness and exalt the spirit. Faith in self and the search for Truth create harmony.” “By Us and by you, together, is the spiritual culture built. The Truth of the world will stand firm. The Light will penetrate the darkness—I attest. The Gates of the Spiritual World are thrown open.” “I love being your Teacher in quests of the Spirit. The other world, where My days are, must kindle joy in yours.”

The Call of Cosmic Evolution: Excerpts from “Leaves of Morya's Garden” by Spiritual Messengers Nicholas and Helena Roerich (vegetarians), Part 1 of 2

The esteemed mystical and philosophical writers Nicholas Roerich and his wife Helena Roerich are two of the most influential spiritual thought leaders from Russia. They are recognized for founding a doctrine called Agni Yoga, also known as Living Ethics. Traveling extensively throughout Asia to deepen their spiritual studies, the Roerichs eventually met their Master in Darjeeling, India. Morya revealed messages of higher wisdom to Nicholas and Helena Roerich, which they recorded on paper and later gathered into a series of texts. One of these is the two-volume book titled “Leaves of Morya’s Garden.” “By holiness in life, guard the precious Gem of Gems. Aum Tat Sat Aum! (‘The Supreme Absolute Truth’ or ‘All that is’) I am thou, thou art I—parts of the Divine Self. I invoke blessings unto you. Salvation will be yours! Life nourishes the soul. Strive for the life glorified, and for the realization of purity. Put aside all prejudices—think freely.”

Selections from The Zen Poetry of Dōgen (vegetarian) – Verses from the Mountain of Eternal Peace: Part II, Chapter 3

Zen Buddhist Master Dōgen Zenji was the founder of the Sōtō school of Zen Buddhism in Japan, which promotes sitting meditation as the way to enlightenment. The Buddhist Master was one of the most remarkable Zen Masters in history and was also an outstanding poet. The book, "The Zen Poetry of Dōgen - Verses from the Mountain of Eternal Peace," is by Dōgen scholar Steven Heine. It is a complete translation of Dōgen’s collection of thirty-one-syllable Japanese poetry, or waka, plus a translation of a selection of the Master's Chinese verse, or kanshi. It offers a distinct and revealing insight into Master Dōgen’s unique style of Zen naturalist and aesthetic philosophy. "My companions Trekking The six realms - I recognize my father! There is my mother! Contemplating the clear moon Reflecting a mind as the open sky - Drawn by its beauty, I lose myself In the shadows it casts. Traveling the six realms, Seeking the primordial words Of the seven Buddhas of Nara, Which are ceaselessly Pervading all paths."

Rebuilding the Foundation of Sustainability Through Compassion: An Interview with Dr. Sailesh Krishna Rao (vegan), Part 2 of 3

Today, we are going to continue our discussion with Dr. Rao who introduces his two books and analyzes the environmental issues from a religious and spiritual aspect. Dr. Sailesh Rao also wrote books to raise people’s awareness: “Carbon Dharma: The Occupation of Butterflies” and “Carbon Yoga: The Vegan Metamorphosis” are two of his most important works. “I wrote the first book, “Carbon Dharma,” in 2011, because dharma is what is the right thing to do. And it’s very easy to understand that. The right thing to do is to stop killing. When our killing is causing the planet to die, we should just stop the killing. So that was easy for us to do. And then, yoga is about, how do you do it? So, it’s a process of how do you get to balance in nature? How do you get in alignment with who you really are?” “And it is actually compassion for all life that is at the foundation of all religions.”
