Selection from Mr. Ralph Waldo Emerson's Essays, First Series: The Over-Soul, Part 1 of 2 s

The Supreme Critic on the errors of the past and the present, and the only prophet of that which must be, is that great nature in which we rest as the earth lies in the soft arms of the atmosphere; that Unity, that Over-soul, within which each person's particular being is contained and made one with all other; that common heart of which all sincere conversation is the worship, to which all right action is submission; and which evermore tends to pass into our thought and hand and become wisdom, virtue and beauty.

I-Kuan Tao: Excerpts of The Heart Scripture of Clarity and Stillness, as Spoken by the Highest Lord Lao Tzu

I-Kuan Tao: Excerpts of The Heart Scripture of Clarity and Stillness, as Spoken by the Highest Lord Lao Tzu

I-Kuan Tao is one of the most significant spiritual movements in Taiwan. It has been considered as one of the spiritual heritages from Taoism, a religion that believes in “The Tao that unifies all with the one.” Tao is the ultimate principle beyond all principles and the ultimate power beyond all powers. Tao existed before the formation of all, yet it was not anterior, which means the creation was embedded in it. Tao merges into the creation, yet it is not posterior, which means that it is not thereafter limited. It is only Tao that can not be measured of its immensity nor detected of its existence. All people can be of one spirit, all nations can be in peace like a family, and the Great Harmony will come true. If people can always be in the state of purity and calmness, all of Heaven and Earth will become one with them. The truly noble person does not fight; the lesser noble person loves to fight. The highest Virtue is free from the Virtue; the lesser Virtue clings to the Virtue. We also benefit from the following for our lifetime: Being closer to the true joy, Transcending life and death, Achieving ascension.

From the Sacred Confucian Analects, Chapters 9, 11 & 14, Part 1 of 2

Must thee superior man have such variety of ability? He does not need variety of ability. If a superior man dwelt among them, what rudeness would there be? Praise songs all found their proper places. Abroad, to serve the high ministers and nobles; at home, to serve one’s father and elder brothers; in all duties to the dead, not to dare not to exert one’s self; and to be overcome of wine: which one of these things do I attain to? It passes on just lide this, not ceasing day or night! There are cases in which the blade springs, but the plant does not go on to flower! There are cases where it flowers but fruit is not subsequently produced! A youth is to be regarded with respect. How do we know that his future will not be equal to our present? When you have faults, do not fear to abandon them. The commander of the forces of a large state may be carried off, but the will of even a common man cannot be taken from him. Those things are by no means sufficient to constitute perfect excellence. When the year becomes cold, then we know how the pine and the cypress are the last to lose their leaves. The wise are free from perplexities; the virtuous from anxiety; and the bold from fear. While you do not know life, how can you know about death? To go beyond is as wrong as to fall short.

Selection from Sikhism's Holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Part 2 of 2

Selection from Sikhism's Holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Part 2 of 2

Those who joyfully meet with True Guru are perfectly fulfilled and wise. Meet with Guru, they cross over the terrifying world-ocean. In the Court of the Lord, they are honored and approved. O Nanak, their faces are radiant; the Music of the Shabad, the World of God, wells up within them. Chant the Lord’s Name, and focus your consciousness on Him. Take the Merchandise of the Lord’s Praises with you. Your Lord shall see this and approve. Make good deeds the soil, and let the Word of the Shabad(Essence of God) be the seed; irrigate it continually with the water of Truth. Become such a farmer, and faith will sprout. As is their awareness, so is their way. Let the reading of your prayer book be the oil, and let the Fear of God be the wick for the lamp of this body. Light this lamp with the understanding of Truth. Use this oil to light this lamp. Light it, and meet your Lord and Master. This body is softened with the Word of the Guru’s Bani; you shall find peace, doing seva(selfless service).

Selection from Sikhism's Holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Part 1 of 2

00:15:05

Selection from Sikhism's Holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Part 1 of 2

From the True Lord came the air, and from the air came water. He created the three worlds; in each and every heart He has infused His Light. The body of the five elements is dyed in the Fear of the True One; the mind is filled with the True Light. We shall merge into the One from whom we came. The more the Lord and Master dwells within the mind, the more the Gurmukh(one who follows the Guru’s teachings) drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar. Know the state of your inner being. When one’s light merges into the Light, and one’s intuitive consciousness is joined with the Intitive Consciousness, then one’s cruel and violent instincts and egotism depart, and skepticism and sorrow are taken away. The Lord abides within the mind of the Gurmukh(one who follows the Guru’s teachings), who merges in the Lord’s Union, through the Guru. The True Merchandise, Wealth and Capital are obeained through the Radiant Light of the Guru.

Selection from Baba Sawan Singh Scripture: Discourses on Sant Mat (as delivered in Satsang), Chapter 1, Part 2 of 2

The first step that leads us towards our Home is detachment from the world. The transitory carnal enjoyments must be gradually discarded, for so long as they persist, the soul finds it impossible to attach itself to Nam (The Word of God). Spiritual wealth may be accumulated in two ways. First: by toiling hard at meditation; second: by a complete and unconditional surrender to the Master. The first is the easier way. The second method is however, hard to practice, though it is much more efficacious. The mind is a great hurdle in the way; it does not permit you to annihilate your ego.

Philosophy of Plotinus - The Second Ennead of The Six Enneads: The Heavenly System, Part 2 of 2

We must distinguish between a center in reference to the two different natures, body and Soul. In body, center is a point of place; in Soul it is a source, the source of some other nature. That around which the object, Soul or material mass, revolves. While in the higher realm everything flows on its course. There is a lowest power of the Soul, a nearest to Earth, and this is interwoven throughout the entire universe: another phase possesses sensation, while yet another includes the Reason which is concerned with the objects of sensation.

From Buddhism's Sacred Scripture: The Sutra of the Lotus of the Wonderful Dharma, Chapter 1, Part 2 of 3

At that time the Bodhisattva Maitreya questioned Manjushri: Now the World-Honored One has manifested these miraculous signs. But what is the cause of these auspicious portents? At that time Manjushri said to the Bodhisattva and Mahasattva Maitreya and the other great men:“Good men, I suppose that the Buddha, the World-Honored One, wishes now to expound the great Dharma, to rain down the rain of the great Dharma, to blow the conch of the great Dharma, to beat the drum of the great Dharma, to elucidate the meaning of the great Dharma. Good men, in the past I have seen this auspicious portent among the Buddhas. They emitted a beam of light like this, and after that they expounded the great Dharma. Therefore we should know that now, when the present Buddha manifests the light, we will do likewise. He wishes to cause all living beings to hear and understand the Dharma, Which is difficult for all the world to believe. Therefore He has manifested this auspicious portent.”
