The Fatal Obstacle, Part 1 of 3, Mar. 2, 2005

The Fatal Obstacle, Part 1 of 3, Mar. 2, 2005

It’s just showing you this life is really funny. People value more a piece of paper than looking into others’ eyes and seeing what’s in there, or sincerity, everything. They are trained just to count money, and even ignore the other side of humans, which is more valuable. But that’s life. You have to prove that you have money, otherwise, you are nothing. It’s incredible how people value a few pieces of paper more than the human spirit, and looking down upon people, and then put people down and things like that. So, they choose the wrong personnel all the time. Sometimes you get to a high position because you know the owner or you know the other highly positioned persons, or a big shot or something. It’s not necessarily that you’re qualified. A couple of the banks that I have dealt with the managers used to be bakers or cooks or whatever, but they happen to speak Spanish or German or English. You know, at least two languages, and you’re fine. Because the bank said it is easier for them to train him in financial than to train him in languages. Can you imagine?

The World Is Nothing but an Illusion, Part 4 of 4, June 15, 2019

The World Is Nothing but an Illusion, Part 4 of 4, June 15, 2019

“It's said that Kong Ming also had a very ugly wife. I remember it was written in the book. However, he loved his wife very much. He was a very clever and handsome man, but he loved his wife. When he came home every day, he listened to his wife talking about simple things and stories and it made him very happy. Very few people can be like Zhuge Liang. So, we humans are not only bound by society and brainwashed by customs, but also distressed by situations. We bind ourselves to many things. We are very fastidious even in eating. We are also fastidious in picking a person. We forget about his inner virtues. Only virtues are permanent. Beautiful looks could vanish with traffic accidents or illnesses.” “We are all monks. It’s being ‘one with God.’ [pun of ‘monk’]Being a monk is to be one with God. Then you’ll understand everything. Otherwise, you don’t understand ever if you’ve shaved.”

The World Is Nothing but an Illusion, Part 3 of 4, June 15, 2019

There are two kinds of things that I talk to you about. One is for worldly things; I advise you to be filial, loyal and patriotic, etc. However, if I don't talk about worldly matters, there's really nothing to talk about. The Dharma needs virtually no spoken words. Or should I just sit here and tell you, "It's OK, suit yourself. It's OK to do anything. Never mind the ethical conduct, because there is nothing." You know what I mean? But I can't do that, because you have yet to reach this level. Sometimes, I observe that the world is in great misery, but people can't escape. They are bound very tightly by their minds. Do you understand what I am saying? (Understand.) Really? (Really.) Because these things are... (Abstract.) Abstract. OK, that's right. Therefore, preconceptions sometimes hurt us a lot, and make us lose a lot of good things. I am talking about worldly aspects; not spiritual aspects. Not yet; too many preconceptions. Our eyes, ears, smell and tongue, all deceive us; they are really deceptive.

The World Is Nothing but an Illusion, Part 2 of 4, June 15, 2019

There are two sides in this life. One side is the material world, the other side is the spiritual world. It's not enough if we only busy ourselves in the material world. We will come back later and it will be the same suffering and happiness. We keep coming and going, trapped inside the prison. There is nothing truly meaningful. Sometimes, we have to suffer a lot before we realize this, realize the most important point, realize that we are really bound by these rules, or by our mind. These things are really useless. People who haven't suffered are less likely to understand. Those who have suffered will understand, because they will cherish the human body, which is too precious and too fleeting. When I talk to you, I have to laugh. But if I'm trapped in a situation, it's also quite agonizing. While suffering, I also realize that it is actually nothing. The world is nothing but an illusion. So, when we are in deep samadhi, the whole world vanishes, even our own person vanishes. The numerous illusions of sentient beings life after life, have manifested into this or that. As the Diamond Sutra stated, "Be free of all attachments, so that your mind will be free."

The World Is Nothing but an Illusion, Part 1 of 4, June 15, 2019

There are no emotions up above; no worries, no ego, no mind, no such important things that humans yearn for. For example, if you come down from the Fifth World, you have to pass by the Third World. You will be equipped with some tools and outfits over there. Then you will want to create things. You will want to use your talent and create things in the world, and help to beautify the world. And when you come down to the Second World, you will be given the mind. When we have the mind, we have ego. "Ah, I can do this." "I am like this." "I'm like that." It also brings problems. Some people cannot do much, so they develop an inferiority complex and blame themselves. It all comes from the mind. That's not what we are. And then, when we get to the Astral World, it will give us those emotions - happiness, anger, grief and joy. It doesn't help us to be liberated. So, we will be free only when we shed all those bodies. The three bodies bind us to the worlds of formation, existence, destruction and emptiness.

The Golden Age Is the Elevation of Souls, Part 3 of 3, May 4, 2019

The Golden Age Is the Elevation of Souls, Part 3 of 3, May 4, 2019

“If humankind has enough merit and the whole world enters into a Golden Era, what will this world look like? I want to have an expectation.” “You will know when the time comes.” “Because our inside is different than outside. For example, during retreat, some people saw that Master had elevated Thailand to a level higher than this planet. But if you ask the Thai people, will they understand? It’s a matter of the soul. Even useless things regarding the body, our mind cannot know too much. We can only learn some science or medicine, how to use computers, etc. But we cannot know much about the things inside. Sentient beings are ignorant. They are blocked because of the body. It’s so pitiful. That’s why all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas take pity on all beings. They know that the beings have been blocked and obstructed too much. Otherwise, why do Masters have to come and go? One Master would be enough to elevate the whole world. It’s not that easy.” “Our mind is in this world and deals with things here. Our soul is beyond and does his or her own things.”

“Master, That is, whether there are different levels in the New Land, just like the Western Paradise, where there are higher levels and lower levels.” “It’s different over there, OK? Everyone is equal, living together. There is no problem. No need to separate or differentiate. We are all one. We don’t feel separated or different in status such as up or down, higher or lower. No such feeling over there. It’s just free and easy. It’s different. There’s no need to meditate diligently anymore, or to make progress, or to ask for anything or ask any questions. Everybody lives freely and is free to do whatever they want. It’s different, OK? Very free.” “The Golden Age is not in the physical sense, OK? It’s inside. It’s the soul inside that will be elevated. Our mind cannot grasp it. It’s beyond our thinking.”

Some younger people told me before, “I’m still young. I’ll take my time. I want to enjoy the world for a while, and then come for initiation. I still can’t keep a vegan diet.” And then, those older people would say, “I’m old now. But I still don’t want to practice. I’m very busy with children and grandchildren. No time for spiritual practice.” All kinds of excuses. That’s what happens. It’s not my fault. Life is short in this world. Why don’t they want to practice spiritually? What a pity! The Quan Yin Method is the best and the simplest, yet they don’t practice. What could they want to practice? Making pilgrimages is complicated and very tiring. Their bones and muscles will complain. Worshipping all kinds of things. We can stay calm and peaceful at home, worshipping in our heart. Very simple, yes? And we can communicate with the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. It’s really difficult, very difficult to deliver sentient beings. They don’t listen to you.

She was very grateful to Master. She talked about the accidents that had happened to her. They were very serious accidents, but she was unharmed. A car crashed into the back of her car. It was a very bad crash, but she was not injured at all. “I promise to You I’ll practice diligently, to repay Your grace. I’d like to tell initiates that in this life if we didn’t have Master, our world would have been very dark. Have you ever seen passengers in an airplane and still survived after that kind of accident? Now if you, brothers and sisters, don’t believe me, you can search online, ‘March 22-23 Bacolod Philippines/Airline accident.’ It’ll show you a wrecked airplane from the accident and you’ll know. So the joy of being saved by Master, I have been keeping in my heart dearly all these years. You are very, very good children. I thank you for your love. Go back to bless your country. Go back home, bless your country for me. When (until) we have time to see each other again.

I like Hsihu. I like it very much. I built it. I built all the caves and I built a little stream. And planted all the trees together with the monks at that time. We put up an umbrella, sunbrella, a big one, everyone sits under there or they go to the coffee shop or browse around the jewelry shop, the book shop and things like that, it's OK. I hope that all the monks change into a vegetarian diet, vegan diet, to make an example of love and compassion, example. If you eat all the beings, then who is there for you to ferry across? Who's left for you to liberate? They're all beings also. Can you stand up? Have a look? Thank you for your love. Special monks, huh? Most monks, they think they know everything, they should be teacher. They would not be so humble, come and ask to learn from someone else, especially the high-heeled lady like me. That's why I respect them a lot.

When you know if it’s your ego raising its head up, then you ignore it; you say, “No, that’s not right.” Then you change to what you think is right. And swallow your pride; if you know you’re wrong, just apologize. If you know it’s not the correct way, then try to do the correct one again. Always try, be vigilant. That’s all we can do. Because the ego is born with us so that we make trouble, so that we go into the wrong way so that we mess up our life. That’s the purposeㅡdelusion, delusion ego. You just don’t have ego and mistakes. You have also good things with you. You have the Five Precepts, you eat vegetarian (vegan), you meditate. Maybe ego is just one little part. Try to subdue it or ignore it. It’s a difficult question, difficult to do this. Even the Fifth Level Saint, if you reach the Fifth Level of spiritual consciousness, you still have 1% ego. It’s just a driving motion, a driving force so that we continue to live in this life. After you reach it, you can do with ego or not ego, can keep it or not.

Buddhist Stories: The Story of Ananda, the Names of Hells, and the Praise of the Buddha, Part 8 of 11 Aug. 10, 2015

“Master, how do You create that burning resolve for liberation? that iron determination for enlightenment, how do You create that within Yourself?” “Oh, I don't know. It's just there, I didn't create it. I love God, I want to find God, I want to share God's secret with everybody. So, I just went. I had no second thoughts on why and how come. Just do it. Then I just wanted to find God and Buddha in order to have some power to help myself and others. Just like that. If you really think God or realization of God is all that you want, then that's what you will find.” “We have many beings on this planet, and below and invisible as well. They are to be respected and treated as thus. Like we have animals, we respect them, love them. We have black skin, white skin, red skin, yellow skin, we respect them all, just different species. It doesn't mean that he's not enlightened.”

Buddhist Stories: The Story of Ananda, the Names of Hells, and the Praise of the Buddha, Part 7 of 11 Aug. 10, 2015

The thing is, if people are kind to a Master or an elderly person, then they gain more merit. Nowadays, the humans are very contaminated by all kinds of views, all kinds of things, material influence as well as poisoned by the air around, the air we breathe, the water we drink also influences people. And where they were born, where they live also influence people a lot. What kind of business their family did behind. I just show you the way, you just have to walk. That’s why the more positive, the more meditation, the more your life changes! So you have to thank also yourself, because you have it in you. I just remind you that you have it, you have it! Don’t go that way, go this way then you’ll meet it, you will see it. So just do it. Positive, positive! Yeah, we cannot change anything that happens in life, but with a positive outlook, at least we’re happier. Sometimes we are trampled upon, and then God will lift us up so high that we never imagined. So just accept everything that happens to us. That would be the best solution in life. Of course, we do what we can to avoid or to better the situation, but if we cannot, then accept it with love and gratitude! You never know, God closes one door, open the others, many others!

Buddhist Stories: The Story of Ananda, the Names of Hells, and the Praise of the Buddha, Part 6 of 11 Aug. 10, 2015

This world is full of unfairness. That’s why you should get out, and then we talk in a better place, where we can talk in all fairness and no judgment, no unfair judgment. That’s why all the Masters, the Buddhas encourage people to get out, liberate, aim for liberation. Don’t aim for the merit in Heaven. Don’t aim for the merit on Earth. Don’t wish to be king or gods or devas, nothing. Just aim for Bodhi, enlightenment, Buddhahood at the end, see? Buddha is not here, they don’t find any Master, they don’t know any other things, so these past sutras are good for them to some extent. But the merit is just for Heaven and Earth merit, you see? When your merit runs out, you’ll be born like a human, or even animals, and suffering, ignorance, and then get worse if you don’t have anyone to guide you, any Master to teach you. Then you forget also, and you do bad things, too. The path of liberation is with the Quan Yin Method – gone forever! So you know, you know. Only to be in the Buddha’s path, means the enlightenment path and you cultivate compassion, love as well as wisdom. To have wisdom alone, to have merit alone is nothing – one day it will be gone.

“Therefore, Universally Expansive, if you see people reading and reciting this sutra or even having a single thought of praise for it, or if you meet someone who reveres it, you should employ hundreds of thousands of expedient means to exhort such people to be diligent and not retreat.” “The relatives of those who recite, both old and young, now and in the future, will be apart from the Evil Paths.” “Universally Expansive, You should know of the beneficial deeds done by Earth Store Bodhisattva as He makes use of His indescribably many billions of great awesome spiritual powers. The beings of Jambudvipa have strong affinities with this Buddha.” They have to believe in it, to worship it, respect it, then they have benefit, because this sutra is not only the merit of the Earth Store Bodhisattva; it’s also this embodiment, blessed by the words of Shakyamuni Buddha as well. You see, double blessing. The Buddha did a good job, and all His friends, His sangha in collecting all this, because not everybody says all these things. Other sages, of course they teach Quan Yin Method is sufficient also. But this is for people who have no Mater, and no Quan Yin Method, and they’ll be reborn again and again. At least they will be reborn well, happy, protected.

After I pass into Transquility, all of you Bodhisattvas, Mahasattvas and all of you gods, dragons, ghosts, spirits and others should use vast numbers of expedient devices to protect this Sutra and to cause all beings to testify to the bliss of Nirvana.’” “‘if in the future, good men or good women who, upon hearing Earth Store Bodhisattva Mahasattva’s name, place their palms together - praise Him, bow to Him, or gaze in worship, they will overcome thirty eon's worth of offenses.’” “‘Universally Expansive, if good men or good women gaze upon and bow but once to painted or drawn images of the Bodhisattva or ones made of clay or stone or lacquer or gold or silver or bronze; they will be reborn one hundred times in the Heaven of the Thirty-Three and will eternally avoid falling into the Evil Realms.’” This is all for the women or for the men who have no other method like Quan Yin Method or anything like that for liberation.

Buddhist Stories: The Story of Ananda, the Names of Hells, and the Praise of the Buddha, Part 3 of 11 Aug. 10, 2015

And now we come to “The Names of Hells.” “In Eastern Jambudvipa, is a mountain range called Iron Ring. The mountain is pitch black because the light of the sun and moon do not shine on it. A great hell is located there named Ultimately Uninterrupted. …Within the Iron Ring are endless hells like that. There is also the hell of Crying Out, the hell of Pulling Tongues, ….” “Each of those hells contains lesser hells numbering from one or two or three or four to hundreds of thousands. Each of those lesser hells has its own name. Such are the karmic responses of beings in Jambudvipa who commit evil deeds. The power of karma is extremely great. It rivals Mount Sumeru in its heights. It surpasses the great oceans in its depth. It obstructs the path leading to sagehood. For that reason, beings should never think that minor bad deeds are unimportant or assume that they do not count as offenses. After death, there will be retributions to undergo that cover all those details.” “To inflict these retributions in each hell, hundreds of thousands of instruments made of copper, iron, stone, or fire arise from karmic forces. Those four materials come into being in response to the kinds of karma offenders created. How much more would that be the case for the sufferings in all the many hells? If I were to speak in detail, it would take eons.”

“There was a bhiksu who had adopted a sami (sramanera). Every day, he made him learn the sutras by heart, very diligently on time, and never failed.” “Next day, the sami (sramanera) was going out begging again. He was walking and crying at the same time. Then one of the rich persons in that region came and asked him, ‘Why are you crying, monk?’ ‘My Master is too strict to me. If I recite it on time and fulfill the schedule, then He is very happy. If not, then he is very cranky, scolding me. Going out for alms is not always precise. Some days they don’t give or give very little, then I have to go farther. And then when I come home, it’s late. I have no time to fulfill the schedule. So I am very sad. That’s why I’m crying.’ ‘So from today then, you just come to my house.’” “So since then, he always goes there and has everything he needs, and Master and disciple, very, very happy, happy, happy!” So the Buddha said, “The sami (sramanera) at that time is the past reincarnation of myself. The noble gentleman who offered food every day to the Master and disciple, that was Ananda.” In a Chinese idiom, they say, “Strict masters produce the best disciples, excellent disciples.” So maybe because the Master was so strict, so Ananda, life after life has such a good memory, and good point!

“My life is not my life anymore. My life belongs to all of you. Whatever affects you, affects me. Whatever I have to do, I have to do. All because of you. I don’t have a life. I don’t have any freedom. I don’t have even freedom to choose my clothes or to wear what color my hair is. But I don’t mind too much. It’s just that it’s not like I choose to. It doesn’t matter; it’s a small thing.” “The value of a person or a Master doesn’t lie in the house, bigger house or bigger temple for Her or for Him, or a lot of stuff. It’s not like that. The value is inside. And if I know my own value, it doesn’t matter what I have or don’t have, it’s the same.” “This is about Ananda, the one who told us all of these stories. We are in debt to him. If he wasn’t there, there was no video, no digital camera, nothing. He’s the one who brought all of these to us. And he was even the one who pleaded with the Buddha to let the nuns come into the sangha, because of His mother, His step mother, of course.”

Overcome the Many Influences in Life Through Diligent Meditation, Part 3 of 3 May 5, Jun 30 & Sep 1, 2019

“It’s not easy to have always smooth sailing in your life because many things influence you. Because you practice, so you feel your life is much better; a lot of miracles happen. Big things become small; big trouble becomes small, small trouble becomes none, and this is OK, very good.” “Just try to meditate more, to counter all these obstructions and trouble in your life.” “Just recite the Five (Holy) Names, thank all involved, visible and invisible, for your beautiful food. Let it nourish your body and your spiritual body. Say like that, ‘thank you’ and eat, in all love and faith.” “Some of the food is also poisonous. Every time you feel not easy, meditate not well, or something bad happens, then maybe next time don’t eat. So, this is a problem with our world. It’s not because you eat vegan and then you’re guaranteed a smooth sailing all your life, 24/7. So, we eat vegan because we are compassionate. We try to minimize suffering wherever we can.” “So, even if you eat vegan, you try to eat just enough. Try to eat just enough, 80%, and then another 10% water; the rest is for the Light.”
