Iranian People’s Sincerity and Passion in Spiritual Practice, Part 4 of 4 May 12, 2019

“I have something to ask You. I always shake a lot when I meditate. How do I overcome that?” We have physical energy, we have emotional energy, we have this kind of life force energy, all kinds of energies. And before that, do some physical exercises to release some of the pent-up kind of maybe negative thinking or negative influence from others or from yourself - karma. And then sit and meditate. And do the breathing exercise that I have told you. “One other quick thing, Master. Does it become more of just energy and not so much seeing, once you get past the Astral?” It depends on the person. Some people see visions; some people feel the vibration; some people feel different sensations or happiness or pleasure. But it's always, you have to concentrate on the third eye, whether or not you have visions or no visions. And always remember the Master, (Yes.) Five (Holy) Names, and the Gift, if you have.

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 1 of 6 July 14, 2019

So, I think the governments of these countries who advocate animal laws and protections are very, very good already. Maybe one day, they will ban all together any form of torture or killing of any kind, then it would be perfect. I would give that country hundreds of Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, for Love, for Wisdom, for Hero, for whatever, the best. Hallo. Hey, everybody OK? (Yes.) It’s very comfortable to be a monk. Right? So free. It’s difficult to be a half-monk like me. I’m OK. Is it good? (Yes.) I gave her some (vegan) cakes that the kitchen gave to me because I don’t eat a lot of cakes. I don’t really like sweets. Also, it makes me fat. I said I eat too much already, and she said she eats even more. I said no problem, she doesn’t have to be a model. I do many jobs. Model, modeling is one of my jobs. I can’t eat a lot. For her, no problem. If she gets fat, just buy new clothes. Yeah, for me, OK also. Maybe if I get fat, I can design new clothes, but I don’t have too much time to keep measuring. So, it’s better to stay a little slim; more convenient. Brother from Hong Kong, is your sister here? No? Take turns this time? It’s your turn? Last time, I forgot one story. This story is supposed to follow the story called “The Afflictions by Shulpani” in the temple. But I probably over flipped the page, so I’ll read it for you today. This story has a better title, a more positive title. All the guards have translation? One ear for translation, one ear for order. Otherwise, just standing there, understand nothing, feel very boring. So, you can do three jobs now. So, join my club. Listening, taking orders, and watching. Wow! You only have three jobs; don’t complain. I have many jobs; I cannot list them all: Dog caretaker, house cleaner, helper for the dogs, model, designer for jewelry, wearing jewelry… Oh, I don’t have time to wear jewelry but… Designer for clothes, modeling for clothes. What else? A lecturer, initiation Master, a meditator; yogi, yogi sounds better. What else do I have to do? Sometimes a psychological counselor. What else? Wow! And the list goes on. I don’t want to scare you, in case you want to be a Master, so OK, the list, we’ll just stop here, and you imagine more. Now let’s go. Today, I have a fan matching my clothes. Very good. Leaving Asathikgram. Remember that? That was the village where they call by this name Asathikgram, meaning the village of bones. Remember last time? There was a demon who lived there and eating people up, whoever went there, so they called it Asathikgram. And the Master Mahavira already subdued this demon, and he became a good boy, and not eating people anymore. In the old times, even humans in some places were eating humans. In the old times, it was very bad but people were still eating people. And now we, the civilized society look upon it as barbarous. We don’t do this anymore. Even in remote areas of the world they don’t have that anymore. Well, not that we know of. Because we are more civilized now, we look upon such a practice as barbarous. Soon, in the future, we will look upon eating animal flesh also as barbarous. And pray God that it will be very, very soon. Terrible. Our world is getting better and better. And many animal laws are being proposed or being implemented, and maybe being practiced, a little bit somewhere. But that’s already a very good step. I said they should practice it. Some governments, some nations already advocated and put it into laws, to protect animals. But just one more step, then it’s banned all together any killing of animals or torturing of animals; in animal factories, for example. And I hope other countries also follow suit, to make more laws to protect the weak and innocent, as well as to implement it, to practice it. Otherwise, it would be hypocritical. Sorry. Sorry if I offend anyone, any of the governments or people, but it’s the way it is. You say you protect the animals and all the while, just keep quietly condoning the practice of harassing, torturing, killing, maiming animals. So, what is that then? I really was very reluctant to say such things, but I don’t know, sometimes the truth just keeps coming out. I’m in trouble all the time because of that. Even Heaven just warned me two days ago. They told me to be safe because I told Them I don’t care. They said, “Yeah, You don’t care, but You have to be safe for the world because You still have work to do.” That makes sense. But still, I cannot help it sometimes to speak the truth because that’s what it’s all about. No? Democracy, freedom of speech. Truth practicing, stuff like that. Forget it then, for now. I guess the people who bring this regulation into law, they really want the nation to practice it. It’s just a government body is a complex system. So, maybe some pro, some against. I have been tolerating everything for many decades. And because of tolerance, I have almost died many times. I have been sick, gravely ill many times, and have been blackened my name many times, and also obstructed to give you a better teaching, a smoother, more inspired, and deeper teaching because of tolerance. So, I think from now on, I have been, since we have this Ashram, I have been practicing less tolerance for the sake of everyone else who are sincere, who truly take their time and have courage to come, to leave behind everything, either to work for the world or to come here to better themselves. And in our group, we have 60… I don’t know. I don’t have my diary here. I wrote it down. Sixty-plus percent are good, truly, sincerely want to go Home and to practice goodness and to hear the Truth and try to implement the Truth in their lives. Sixty-some percent. I am very, very lucky and very grateful indeed. And the other thirty-plus percent are not so. Either they just join for fun, or just have nothing else to do, or just shop around, or just coming to make trouble, or just to like to be with the crowd. Also, maybe just to profit from, like good energy, but not doing anything to contribute to it. On the contrary, damaging it somehow. So, for the sake of the majority, I was, since a few months and from now on also, I will screen out as much as I can to protect the majority of people who are really worthy of Heaven’s grace and blessing, and my time. I consider my time very, very precious. Every minute when I remember my age, I feel my time is running so fast and so precious that I can’t afford to waste it just to entertain some anybody, some busybody, or boring body, or bored body, or obstructive body. In order to protect you, and my time, and my practice, and my work, my inside work. For these people, I do not reject them outright. Just they should practice at home or in some smaller Centers where they don’t affect too much the outcome of your practice and my sincere dedication to offer you what I know. So, anyway, they have gotten initiation. They are free to do what they want to do with it, but they are not free to come to the big assembly and make trouble, and ruin our atmosphere and damage your practice result. You agree with that? (Yes.) OK. So, do not keep telling me that this sister is good and that brother is the best, and he’s working diligently, and he always goes to group meditation. That means nothing to me if the inside has not changed for the better or not sincere. Outside is difficult to judge whether or not a person is good or not. Truly like that. Even I was fooled many times because I was also looking outside. And only until maybe I talk to that person or something happened that I have to check it out, then I know it only outwardly looks good, seems good, but the inside is still nowhere. Number one, because not sincere. Join in maybe because of a beautiful girl or a handsome boy, or just have nothing better to do, or just like to be in the crowd. Some people like to be in the crowd and make themselves more famous for doing something, looking good, looks like good for some other purposes, but not sincerely here for real things. And there are also… just like other Masters, when They came to our planet, They generously gave initiation and offered it to the public at large without discriminating who is what and who did what, and just giving everyone a chance to know this method and then to be able to practice. But not everyone took it seriously. The same with Shakyamuni Buddha. Even His cousin always tried to harm Him, did nothing good, always jealous with the Buddha because the Buddha had many admirers, many followers, many disciples who worshipped Him and who practiced with Him with all hundred-percent faith or over hundred-percent faith and vigor. And he looked like nobody followed him, maybe only his servants. Maybe nobody loved him; maybe his mother did; if he had a girlfriend, perhaps. We never heard that he had any family or romantic relationship. Maybe that’s why he was cranky; nobody loved him. The best place to put him is just somewhere so he will not harm anybody, least of all harming the Buddha, the saintly Master who has nothing in His heart except to uplift the faithful, the worthy, and the good people, and help all the beings as well. Because life after life, we will have enemies. The Master also, no exception. So, you see, like Devadatta, he followed the Buddha life after life like a shadow. He never, ever left the Master alone; never. Even after He became a Buddha already, officially, the whole world knew, and he still continued making trouble. Similarly, I also have enemies. There are two kinds of people in our group. I am not talking about you. Of course, you also have enemies and friends and you know that. In the Feng Shui school, they teach you to recognize enemies. Like anyone next to you who always makes you angry, sometimes for a reason or for no reason, they call them evil persons, and they advise you to avoid them, if you can. But if they are your family members, then good luck. There are three kinds of people who will be around you. Four kinds. The first one, luckily if you have, friends. “Friends” doesn’t mean the social circle that you are in only; it could be your family members. Oh my God, should I read the story or keep going on with my calendar? (Calendar.) Calendar? Story won’t run away. My calendar might, because if somebody makes trouble, then I might stop my inspiration somewhere and then the story will get short or nothing. It happened many times. Well, not many times, several times. Either that or the continued story is bumpy, bumpy. Four types of people, four types of beings. It could be also people; it could be also invisible beings; it could be also animals, pets. So now, I classify it all in four types of beings. Because we are all beings: human beings, animal beings, ghost beings, whatever beings. Now, four types. What are four types? The first type is very lucky for us if we have; they’re called “Friends.” It could be your family members: your son, your husband, your wife, your sister, your brother, and your cousin. Devadatta is not classified as “friend,” even though he’s a family, so-called clan member of the Buddha. So, friend is good for you. You will notice that they are very helpful to you, very coordinated with you. When you’re with them, it’s smooth sailing. Of course, they are not perfect. Don’t look at only at their mistakes or their faults. You have to look at the big picture, because you might be very easily mistaken with their personality.

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 2 of 6 July 14, 2019

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 2 of 6 July 14, 2019

All the Bodhisattvas and the Buddhas warning us that the Bodhisattvas have always been there to help us all the time, even lifting us away from hell, if we were repentant and sincere, and given another chance to redeem our mistakes. Some still do it again because habits die hard, even habits from former lives, still coming back, haunting our subconsciousness. So, try to resist mightily, whatever we think is not good. You have to watch more closely what they do for you, how you feel when you’re with them. How they tell you the truth for your own good but not arguing over petty things. How every time you’re in trouble and they’re around, the trouble seems to be solved or lessened. And of course, “Enemy” is the opposite. But it’s very difficult to discern the enemies. But there are some tricks, I can tell you afterwards. We’ll talk about friends first. And friends, sometimes, also are very protective of you. If someone else harms you, or slanders you, or talks bad about you, or does bad things to you, they’re always on your side. Enemy, of course, is the opposite. Not only they don’t sympathize with your troubles, they even talk to you like you are the guilty one, make you feel even worse. Like it’s all your fault. Even if it’s your fault, it always takes two to tango. That’s what people say. Friends, they are always there when you’re in trouble. And their energy will always lend you some help, even though you don’t know it; they also don’t know about it. But you just feel comforted when you’re around them. And you two seem to get on well in many subjects. Not all subjects, not all things, of course; nothing is perfect in this world. Even in architecture, when they build a house, they deliberately make something wrong in some corner of your house; not dangerously wrong; it’s just something not perfect, so that the house will be safe and stay long. I guess to make it less perfect, so that the house will stay safe longer and make people happy inside. That’s what they believe. But of course, the house alone, the Feng Shui alone, is not 100% safety-proof or happy-proof for you. You must have also the worth to live in there, and to live a perfect and a good human life according to your merit and your goodness in your heart. Some people, even if they live in a bad house but they’re so pure, so good, everything even bad becomes good. Actually, in our group, we should also experience that. Many years ago, when I first came to Taiwan (Formosa), being blind, deaf, and dumb to the world, I also didn’t know much about Taiwan (Formosa). Used to also being kings and queens and all that. I used to do what I wanted and my order would be law. So, when they said, “Oh, it’s raining a lot, it’s wet for disciples; it’s sunny, too hot; rainy, too wet; winter too cold; autumn is too nothing. So, we should build a little roof for everyone.” OK, we built a roof. And later they said, “But the wind and the rain are still flying in.” And they said, “Master, we have to make some walls.” But we didn’t really make walls; maybe it was just like plastic sheets and cover, etc. But then, I don’t know, somebody went and reported it or something, and then somebody else came and demolished it, the so-called meditation hall. So, we had nowhere to go. We just planted more trees hoping that, like the Buddha, we’d sit under the Bodhi tree, and we might become Buddha. We planted a lot of trees, and because of many trees, it’s like a forest. You know in Hsihu, right? It’s like a mini forest; trees are everywhere. If you’re not careful, you’ll bump into trees all the time. When you’re in samadhi and walking around, you be careful. And we always have to trim the trees so that it doesn’t overgrow. Otherwise, we will have no more land because Hsihu is small already. Similarly, here we also have to trim. Trim some people who are not really useful. For the majority and for the practice of everyone else, so we trim them. Just like trees, sometimes you have to trim some, because the tree might grow too far into your house and obstruct your door or your windows or take up your space; you trim some. So, at that time, we planted many trees overnight even, me and the monks and nuns at that time, the residents, long-term residents. And we planted also at night, because sometimes we could not wait until the next day, because it might be too hot and the trees would wither and it was very difficult. So, we had to plant a lot because we were in a rush of time also. If we didn’t plant it well on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, then on Sunday people could not come, because of the heaps of dirt everywhere and trees were laying down everywhere or topside everywhere. It was also dangerous for the children. And the holes everywhere in the ground, it was not safe. So, we hurried, hurried. We planted sometimes all night through. And because of the many trees, we call it “Holy Forest Big Hall.” Holy Forest Big Hall. Word by word translated like that. Actually, the big hall, it means the place where you gather to meditate, to listen to Master’s lecture, so they call it “big hall.” Even in the temple, they call it the big hall. Means where the Buddha statues are placed, and people come to worship or meditate, if they do, or listen to the abbot speaking if he does. So, we call it the big hall also. Actually, there’s no hall. “Da dian” means “big hall.” The hall normally has a roof and the walls around it; meditation hall or any hall like that; just, we had no hall at all. They’re still nostalgic for the old times, when they still had the little meditation hall before. It was made of simple stuff like sheets of metal. At that time, I didn’t have a lot of money, because I did not do any designing or modeling yet. I didn’t think about that. And then we just used very inexpensive material just to cover from the sun and the rain. But later, it was demolished, so we planted trees instead. We were just a group of practitioners, didn’t know much about the building regulations and stuff like that. We thought, “Oh, it’s necessary to build, so we build.” And I thought the Taiwanese (Formosan) people knew what to do and the Taiwanese (Formosan) people thought Master knew everything. “Master knows what to do, so, OK, we build!” Later, we knew better. Have to apply first for permission. Nevertheless, we already planted trees. It’s very difficult to dig them out. They are growing, growing everywhere already. So, we call them “Holy Forest Meditation Hall.” And just now, they dug out one of the ancient predictions, and one of the seers, he mentioned about our Holy Forest and I said, “Wow, that’s pretty cool.” So, that means anything that happens has a good reason. And I had to wait 30-some years to see it. We all did. We all had to wait for 30-some years to see the reason why somebody came and demolished our so-called meditation hall before. And then we have a Holy Forest Meditation Hall, which fits perfectly in the big plan of the universe. We shouldn’t have built that hall in any case. But I remember now, I don’t know if they still have these tapes, that I was talking to the residents at that time, because they were so upset that somebody was going to demolish their house. They were not really attached. They thought it was a place, the holy place where people came and meditated, for the disciples, and why do people even come and do that? And they were thinking of coming out and lying on the street to stop the bulldozer from coming to demolish the hall. So, I was laughing. I talked to them laughingly, saying, “Oh, somebody really wants to use human skin to protect the metal skin.” Because the metal sheets… In Chinese, I said, “You are using human skin to protect the iron sheets.” I remember saying that, but more I don’t remember. I just comforted them and then made them laugh so much, that we all laughed, and then, we didn’t care anymore, whether or not it was going to be demolished or not. So, it was like that. These tapes probably were never published because it was just for the residents, and we just talked about this incident only; nothing, I mean, nothing much. Well, maybe there could be some lessons in it. But we didn’t think. I didn’t let them publish. I didn’t think it was something to publish. Maybe one day, they will dig it out. Because these Supreme Master TV people, Supreme Master Television staff they are so good, they dig out everything. They dig out many of the photos that I never thought I had. They dig out some of the talks that I never thought I even had spoken. And they dig out so many ancient predictions, that I never heard of; even many other lifetimes. They keep digging and digging. Wow, my God! And I’m also, for the first time, seeing this. I told you the only predictions I knew a little bit, not the whole thing, because it’s very famous in France. I was in France and I was studying French, so I knew some, because people told me, but I wasn’t anything wiser, because I wasn’t practicing anything. So, I didn’t know anything anyway. So, they read it and I heard it and then it went from here out the other ear. That’s it. That’s the only person I knew about predictions in my whole life. And now, they’re digging out so many. Whoa! From Europe to America, and then now South America and then to Âu Lạc (Vietnam) and Korea and whatnot, I don’t know. I’m also like you, very excited, waiting to see what else they can dig out from the treasure of the world. So, now, when I see these predictions, I think, “Wow, so it fits perfectly. Maybe that’s what it’s meant to be.” Luckily, I didn’t let the residents come out and lay on the street to do the protest. Because the bulldozer, maybe it doesn’t know anything about ahimsa. It could cause some problems. Humans might know, but the bulldozer is just a machine. It knows nothing about the Five Precepts. And you don’t provoke that big, strong, powerful, mindless guy. Besides, whatever happens, happens. That’s my philosophy. Whatever happens, happens. You just accept it and maybe something good comes out of it at the end. Maybe you have to wait forever, but who cares? Who cares? That’s the way it has to be, then it has to be. So, we learn a lot also from Lord Mahavira here, that He accepted everything, because maybe His soul knew that this is good for humanity, for all beings. Or His soul also remembered maybe in the past lives, when He was sojourning on this planet, maybe He also did something not appropriate and now it’s His turn to reap these consequences. Even Shakyamuni Buddha said that He was kicking the head of a dead fish, and then He had headaches for some time, even after He became Buddha already. We are born in this human body and we are not allowed to know many things. Therefore, a lot of times we do wrong without realizing it, especially without anyone teaching us in advance, without a wise teacher to tell us what’s right from wrong. And even then, if somebody taught us, sometimes we still can do wrong because the mind and the maya pushing it; and our karmic background from (past) lives coming back also leading us astray, making us do things wrong; or the situation forces us to do something that we don’t like to do, but we just have to. Therefore, all beings are really, really pitiful, very, very pitiful indeed. But in the Ksitigarbha Sutra, Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha Sutra, remember, all the Bodhisattvas and the Buddhas warning us that the Bodhisattvas have always been there to help us all the time, even lifting us away from hell, if we were repentant and sincere, and given another chance to redeem our mistakes. Some still do it again because habits die hard, even habits from former lives, still coming back, haunting our subconsciousness. So, try to resist mightily, whatever we think is not good. Because the Buddhas and the Bodhisattvas warned us that, if after we have been redeemed and given another chance, and if we do bad again, if it’s too grievously bad, then we’ll be in hell forever. No one can help us anymore. Remember that? (Yes.) Well, they said no one, meaning mostly, mostly. Maybe there are one or two mighty Saints who could help us, but that takes long, long, long eons, kalpas, until this Person or this Being comes down to this planet and helps us in that situation. I mean, help once and for all, for good. But then, we still have to suffer a long time already, like forever. In the old saying, they say one day in prison is like three years outside in freedom. In hell, imagine all the suffering and the punishment and the pain and sorrow, no end. No end. Imagine how long will that seem, even though it’s already like kalpas or eons passed already. Understand? (Yes.)

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 3 of 6 July 14, 2019

Now we go back to Lord Mahavira, our good and compassionate Lord. But this is too extreme for me. I don’t wish any Master to ever have to undergo this kind of ascetic life, which is so filled with suffering like this. It’s not necessary at all. I wasn’t born to be looking like an ascetic monk this lifetime. I’m born for you. I was born for this type of people who look through the clothes and the s

And we have also invisible friends, like the angels who protect you. If you’re good, more angels protect you. If you’re not, even if angels are around, they cannot do anything, or they just disappear. They’re not allowed to help you when you’re not worthy. If you keep the Five Precepts alone clearly, then OK, at least you have five angels. So, you see, our world is like that. They don’t believe in happiness. They don’t believe in good luck, redemption. They believe in hell and evil and bad luck and all this kind of stuff. So, when the Master comes with all positive energy, and says, “You will be saved! Don’t worry! I’ll take all your karma. And your other five, six, and nine generations, I will also take care. Don’t worry!” And they look at the Master like, “What? Are you joking? You must be kidding, right?” But if other people say, “Oh, you’re a sinner. You’d better be repentant, be more ascetic. Avoid more pleasure, then you might be able to be liberated.” Then they believe that. They go home and kneel on end, or maybe prostrate in the snow, in the dirt, in the rough stony road for hundreds of miles on end, to redeem themselves. Even though their whole life they did nothing wrong, just reciting Buddha’s names, for example. Then they believe that will be the redeeming kind of path. The Master is too easy, “Come to me only. Yeah! And I will help you.” Like Jesus said, “Come to me, those weary and laden, I will quicken you. I will lift you up.” How many people followed Him? Not too many. And they even killed Him in such a cruel, gruesome way, inhumane way. He did nothing wrong. He never said anything wrong, even against governments or anybody. So, you can see, this world is not fit for us to live in. We don’t like all this kind of sadistic kind of mentality and the trend of society would believe only in suffering and sorrow and pain. So, any poor Master who wears tattered clothes or eats once a day or barely eats once a week or maybe not eat at all, then OK, “Maybe I will follow you or maybe not even.” It’s not like, OK, the whole world follows, then it’s not too bad, not too bad. There were many Saints who ate nothing, in our history. In Taiwan (Formosa), there’s also one; She was a nun. Her name was Abbess Fu Hui, and She lived also in Miaoli, near our old Ashram, and She ate nothing for a long, long time. She drank only a little water; and She didn’t even preach. She used hands to teach you, like tell you to recite the name of the Buddha. Her teaching was very simple, but it was good enough. If you followed Her, She would have the blessing for your Buddha’s name. Not just like anybody telling you to recite the Amitabha Buddha’s name, but it’s Her who told you because She was powerful, She was pure, She was devoted to the Buddha and the Buddhas’ teachings and She lived up to it. She was powerful. She was a liberated soul. She was a Saint in a human form. So, if She told you, even with Her hands only, to recite Amitabha Buddha, then that Amitabha Buddha’s name would have no end of blessing. Then, if you recited it, you would really be blessed and be liberated. That’s the difference. But how many people in Taiwan (Formosa) followed Her? Every Sunday, maybe one bus full or two buses full went there and just bowed to Her and saw Her hands and then ate some of Her food and then went home. She already had nothing anymore, so people could not suspect that She would benefit something if you followed Her. Nothing, I mean, ascetic to the maximum already. She wore old clothes, tattered clothes, always patching here and there. She didn’t have any new clothes ever since She became a nun, I guess, because Her clothes had always been patched again and again and again. And She didn’t have that many. I saw that. I went to see Her also. So, you see what I’m saying? There’s no end to demands of human’s requirements. “You have to do this in order for me to follow you. You have to do that in order for me to follow you. But maybe I don’t even follow you because I don’t want to, because I still like to eat meat, I still like to drink alcohol, and I still like to do this and that. The thing that you did not allow, or you encourage me to quit, I don’t want to.” That is the problem. You see? Humans, they ruin themselves, they spoil themselves. They do what they want, even though they know that it’s bad. Some don’t know, that’s OK, excusable. Nobody taught them. OK, we understand. But some know for sure, still don’t do it. So, Heaven is limitless, immense, but almost empty. Hell is so tight, small, but a lot of squeezing in there. And Bodhisattvas, Saints, Buddhas are all over, in the ten directions, life after life. They are helping to rescue humans and to lift them up. But still, life after life, we still have full of humans on this planet. I just hope this time, sooner, we will be only Saints. Or at least harmless beings. Oh my God! I talked about four beings, right? We’re only at one yet. (Yes.) Only first one, right? (Yes.) You better stay until next week because… OK, never mind. So, we talked about friends. Of course, friends include Bodhisattvas and Buddhas and saintly beings. Good friends. Admirable friends. Good, intelligent, wise friends. If you have friends by your side, it’s good for you. But mind you, friends, it doesn’t always mean they always agree with you, even though it’s right. If it’s something they did not know before, maybe they don’t take, but that doesn’t mean they are enemies. OK? Now, that’s called friend. Oh sorry, I think I have no time for You today. We’ll just let You take a rest. Now, the second type, maybe friend has more than just that. Friends sometimes, they are not around you. Sometimes, they just happen to be with you for a short while, but then they introduce you to some good teachings or a name of a Master, and it awakens something in you, and then you will go and find more of that teaching or that Master. These are also friends. And you have also not just angels but protectors. If you are more worthy, you have protectors. When you’re in retreat, you have more protectors. When I am in retreat, I have more protectors. But now they use only OU (Original Universe) protectors, not the ordinary ones. Ordinary ones also hang around, but the OU (Original Universe) Ihôs Kư Godses, They come, every time, just two days; every group, two days only. It depends on my retreat. If it’s less troublesome, then they give me maybe 26. Normally, 26 are around, but 28 or 30 plus. It depends on how rough the subject of my retreat is at that time. Then I have more or less protectors. The protectors, They know everything. They can tell me many things; just sometimes, I don’t have enough time to listen; too busy with outside things. And sometimes, I know too late, but it doesn’t matter. I am OK. It should be OK. Now, there is another group of people; they are “Neutral.” They are no harm to you, no good to you. Sometimes, they could help you a little bit with small things, but they don’t harm you in any case. So, sometimes, you work with them, you feel like less effective. But these people, at least they don’t harm you. So, we don’t have much to talk about these people. They can hang around you or not hang around you, but they’re just maybe decoration or just harmless, just to have company or something, but nothing much going on, but nothing bad. Of course, if they are around and sometimes, you need something, they can also lend a hand. And slowly, life after life, they do that, they become your friends in the end, sometime in your journey, if you are still here. If you’re liberated, then of course not. And these people who help you, we will also help to be uplifted to some degree. So, not much to talk about these neutral people. We call them “Neutral.” And now we talk about “Enemies.” Enemy has two types: outside your circle enemy and inside your circle enemy; we call “secret enemies.” Because these enemies you can’t suspect. The enemy outside, of course, they do things very obviously against you, or bad for you, or you don’t get on well with them. You often have trouble understanding each other or working with each other. They could destroy some of your projects, or your enthusiasm, your ideas and all that. That’s very obvious. And they’re not friendly to you; this is easier to deal with. You can escape, if you know, if you can. Or when the time comes, they leave you. Secret enemy is more difficult. They are with you all the time, either family members or workers together in your company, or your workmates, or your friends, so-called friends. They seem to be with you in a lot of things, harmless things, small things, which don’t destroy you, which don’t ruin you. But when it comes to some big thing, boom! Then they turn against you very quickly, and you have no time, to even counteract. They may join your group, or your company, or your volunteer group even, and just looking like they’re very, very diligent and very supportive. But no! They do things to harm you. They split the togetherness in your group by some words, some actions, leading people to go against you, but no one notices. Slowly, slowly, or big, or quickly, it depends on the situation. And they also ruin your reputation, your name, your company, your business, your ideals, your faith. They make you even not want to practice anymore. These are the worst enemies. They could be your girlfriend, your wife, your husband, your boyfriend. Understand? Maybe they follow you in the same faith, looks like. But in some ways, visibly or invisibly, they slowly wear you out of your faith as well, by their own example, their own actions, or their own arguments. They make you lose your way. These are the worst enemies. They make you lose your faith. These are the worst enemies. Mostly, they are secret enemies because they are with you, you trust them. That is the problem. If they are outsiders or they just come and go, then OK, you’re here, there, and you forget tomorrow. But if they are with you every day or often, then their influence is not to be overlooked. You must use your wisdom, your intelligence to discriminate between friends and enemies. Otherwise, your life will be in trouble. We have only one life here, now, that we know. Next life, we don’t know. We don’t know if we’ll still be human, if we’ll see a Master or not, if we can practice or not; or if we’ll have more family members obstructing us, more bad enemies obstructing us, or we will become animals, or some gods or some fairies in heaven, enjoying too much and not wanting to practice anything. Some heavens are just too low and just give you enjoyment; you have no motivation, no push to go higher. In every group, there’s prone to be one enemy like that. Mostly, in most groups, there will be one, and you have to be really vigilant. In our group, we also have, so I have to keep trimming it, for your sake as well. I will not abandon them, if they don’t do anything bad for others, outside in the society. If they still are vegetarian (vegan), meditating off and on, OK, fine. But they should not be near you, because they will give bad influence, by their action, by their talk, by their invisible influence, by energy. Therefore, I’m trimming, trimming, trimming. Please don’t criticize me. It’s getting smoother now. I often talk now without any bad interruptions, recently, and I’m very grateful for that, and I’m also glad for you. The enemy, the outspoken one, the one that lives as your neighbor next door, or the one in your company, they talk sour about you or sarcastic about you – all that stuff is not much. You go home, you forget them. Maybe you’re still angry or upset a little bit, but they don’t harm you as much as the secret enemy, because the secret enemy, they can destroy you without you even knowing, and then they make you ill also. And the worst thing is that they make you lose your belief in the right path to follow, right Master to believe in. That’s the worst thing you could encounter. Or just like Devadatta, he always tried to obstruct the Buddha from teaching others. He didn’t want anybody to follow the Buddha for liberation. Not only was he jealous with the Buddha’s fame… Not that the Buddha even cared about any fame. Just His job, His mission, He’s destined to be an open Buddha like that, to teach others according to His vows and His power. Not that He cared to be famous. If He’d cared to be famous, He would have gone back to be a king having so many servants, many concubines, beautiful, most beautiful women around Him. They select, you know? If you’re a king, they select all the best-looking women in the country, young maidens to be at your side for your pleasure, to lessen your stress, to bear many children, to enlarge the royal household, so that you can use these children to solidify your power, or to solidify friendships, support from neighboring countries. It is like a job also. Having many women is also like a job. The king might not even like it. Not every man likes many women. Most men are very faithful. One woman is good enough for him. And then they build up their relationship together and they have not just like desire for each other, but they have obligation for each other. They have respect for each other. They have things in common and go together on the life journey as best friends. So, most men, if they found a good woman, trustworthy and nice to him, faithful to him, then he’s happy all his life. He doesn’t even look at anybody else. In America, they made a survey that 90-plus percent of American – USA – American men are very respectful and loving to their wives, really love their wives and respect their wives. I think everywhere else is almost the same. They just didn’t do the survey in Taiwan (Formosa). The myth about men loving many women, it’s not really true. Some, maybe. Some, maybe. But not all men are like that. I saw it around me all the time. I don’t know, maybe I told you this story already, but I could tell you again and you pretend you didn’t listen before. I was in Spain, and I went to a restaurant to eat because they have a vegan taco. Taco is a special Mexican food. They wrap it in a crispy corn chapati-like (flatbread), and it’s very delicious. They make it vegan. I love Mexican food. Whenever I’m in Mexico, I really have to go out and find some real Mexican food, vegan, to eat. And sometimes, I made it at home. Now I don’t have time to even eat, not to talk about making it myself. I prefer to cook. I like to cook. It’s like an artistic expression also. You put a lot of colorful things, you’re arranging stuff, and then you put enough spice and condiment, and it suits your palate. And after you’re done, you enjoy it. It’s like a gift from Heaven and Earth. From your talent and your love and the love of all the food that offer it to you. You feel grateful and it’s also your own creation, so you feel very satisfied even if you don’t eat a lot of that. And sometimes you go out, eat a lot, but you don’t feel satisfied. That’s the problem. Because it’s not love that’s put in there. I keep telling the kitchen to put love, like in Hsihu, to put love in the food, so it will taste good.

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 5 of 6 July 14, 2019

In Heaven, you don’t need to want anything. Or even whatever you want, it’s already there for you. And even if you want anything extra just for creativity’s sake, you just think about it, it’s right there. But here, you are not allowed to use this. I’m not allowed to use so many things. I like Taiwan (Formosa), but I really love Europe. Everything’s clean and tidy everywhere, every country. Even a ruin, for example, if you go to Spain… Don’t let me forget the restaurant. I might go on forever. Spain is big, very big. So, if I go around Spain, that’s enough for another month. If you go to Spain, you will notice people there are very tidy; everywhere is so tidy. Even if a ruin... Ruin means a house that has been built a long time ago and nobody lives there anymore, and the roof is gone, the wall is half broken, still, you don’t see any mess there. Even if I look at the ruin in Spain, I love it so much. It feels so clean and somehow very endearing. Or Italy also. But Spain gives a deeper impression on me. Really, every ruin is like a piece of special art for me. Sometimes I take pictures, go home, have a look, and I imagine how it was before. And I thought, if I had the time and chance and talent, I would maybe buy that piece of ruin and the land around it, and rebuild it again to make it beautiful. And my cave in Spain, it was just a cave, a lot of rock and rough and it was not accessible. But afterwards, I hired people to come in, move all the unnecessary rocks and trim all the trees, because it’s a cave only; there’s nothing. After we removed everything, I still put some artistic pieces of assembly things, assembling some rocks around it. And then I built some columns or something, half high or two-third high, and made it beautiful, and half of the wall. Oh, I should have taken photos, but I never thought I would go out again. I didn’t have anything there. I didn’t have a camera, nothing. I had a canvas and some painting stuff. I thought I was going to paint it, and then I never had a chance. I had to leave. The cave is still there. Maybe one day, if I go there, I’ll go there and take photos. It’s far away from any human’s quarter. It takes maybe 40 minutes driving on a mountain road to reach the first house that you can see. I loved that place. No water, no electricity, but I can have [water from] a little stream somewhere or we can buy water, bring it in. You don’t need much there; water, you also need less. My dogs don’t care if I smell. And if you don’t do much, you meditate a lot, you don’t really smell. And you need only a wet towel to make yourself clean every day. And I don’t need electricity. I buy a lot of these sun lamps, solar lamps, and just stick in the ground everywhere, big ones, small ones, depends. And then I use it as a flashlight, as a light for the night when I have to go out somewhere. That was one of the best times in my life, just like in India when I had nothing. I love having nothing. You just feel so free. You don’t believe me, try it. I don’t mean absolutely nothing. You have some simple food that you can take with you. I eat just canned food. I bring only canned food in my cave, but I have a couple of assistants because of the dogs, and sometimes, they bring me good food, sometimes not. And you don’t need a lot. You bring a lot of canned food there, and something that can last long. You can bring oil to cook, because I have an oven, a heater that uses oil. And then on top of it, it’s very hot, you could cook things with it. So, in winter, it’s the best. You can warm yourself and then you can cook at the same time. In winter, also you don’t need a lot. I was there in winter. I don’t know what the summer’s like. In summer, probably you have more water. Summer and other rainy season, more water from the waterfall. When it rains, it’s like a waterfall coming down. In winter, you have ice because I just put a bucket of water outside, and then when the rain comes, it fills it. I bring some plastic, like a swimming pool for kids, blow it up, and then the water can be contained in it. Because I cannot carry heavy things, so this kind of… like balloon, you blow it up, and it becomes like a container. It’s flat though, but you can have water in it. And if it’s winter, the water is still there, it becomes ice. You can also refresh yourself. If you don’t want to sleep, you chop a piece of ice, put it on your face, and then you wake up. In summer or rainy season, you stay under the waterfall, it wakes you up in no time. You don’t need electricity. But outside where I have some mobile unit for the workers, for the attendants, and for the dogs, we have solar panels, so we can charge the phone if we need. Very civilized indeed. You don’t know that. And if you have more solar panels, you can watch TV. I had a Spanish mountain, also no electricity, no water, but I had a TV. I could wash my clothes with a small washing machine. I can have even a dish washer. And I collect all the rainwater whenever I can, but that’s the workers, they do it. They bring a big tank inside; we cannot do that. And I have many solar panels. In winter, I can even have a heater. I live in a small hut, one meter seventy long and one meter fifty wide. I couldn’t find any better, that’s why. It was Christmas time, and that’s the only shop that was opened, and that was the only thing available, so I had to take it. And I was very happy in it. I had a small television inside. I had a heater inside. You have to use the eco-heater, not the normal heater, but very flat, ceramic. I love that cave. If I have a chance and it’s easy, I would stay in that cave again. I love it. It’s a natural cave. The water runs in and then some soft earth just loosens up and then all the stones come down to the floor. So, when we came in, we had to move all the stones, but then it became flat. And I put some gravel in it, and then built some little, like, half ruin Roman columns, some stuff like that, with my hands, with the rocks that I found around it. So beautiful! I found it beautiful. For me, it was beautiful, after I decorated like that. And I had a tent put inside, but the road is flat in some areas, but not flat enough for one tent. So sometimes I slept here, and then in the morning, I was down there somewhere else, almost. If there was no tent, I’d run into the ravine under there. It was not very deep, but it could hurt you. So, a tent is also useful. Even though just a zip, but it stops you, and then you wake up. You say, “Hey, it’s not where I want to be.” So, around is all trees and bushes, birds and squirrels and rabbits, and stuff like that. Oh, beautiful place! There’s nothing, really, just that. But, for me, it’s beautiful, because it’s so quiet. But in that cave, I had the biggest ever realization. And the Gift that I gave some of you, also from that time. All right then. Oh, let’s go to the restaurant. I went to a restaurant after I left the cave. Nobody would believe that such a petite Asian woman, going to such a wilderness cave – where there’s no water even, no electricity – sits there alone with a tent, doing nothing! What business! And you were young even, not so old like now. Maybe they’d accept that you’re old and fed up with society, get retirement money, and go there just to quiet down for a while. There is not even a picture of Jesus or Buddha there, so that you could say you go there worshiping or praying what. Difficult to explain to the society what I was doing in there. Must be something that is not suitable for the normal life. And then I fenced around it even. We explained that it was for the dogs not to go out and eat the wild hogs, but they didn’t believe that. So, the Chinese said, “Of all of the Thirty-Six Strategies, the best is to run.” The best is? To leave. To run, not just to leave. To run and run quickly. Of all of the Thirty-Six Strategies of Chinese, the best is to run, in that case. So, I did. I listened to the Chinese wisdom. Master doesn’t always know everything. You always have to learn because you live in this world. You have to learn to deal with this world in this world’s way. You cannot use heavenly worlds to deal here. It doesn’t apply. When you go to a different country, you don’t expect to have a “hot dog” or “cold dog” or whatever, everywhere like in America. You eat what the natives have for you, and you respect the law. Whatever law you know in that country, you abide by that law. In Heaven, you don’t need to want anything. Or even whatever you want, it’s already there for you. And even if you want anything extra just for creativity’s sake, you just think about it, it’s right there. But here, you are not allowed to use this. I’m not allowed to use so many things. I am so frustrated sometimes; so frustrated. Because the thing is, the king of this world worries if you come down with all your splendor and magical power, then everyone on this planet will just follow you, go back to Heaven, and he has no subjects to rule. What’s the use of a king without any subjects? So, you have to sign a contract: you can’t walk in the air, you can’t walk on the water, you can’t fly, you can’t go through walls, you can’t open doors without any keys from afar, you can’t do this, you can’t do that, you can’t heal the sick, I mean, openly. So many things you cannot. The Master can manage everything, but here cannot. These people have sadistic tendencies. They want the Master to suffer, or to be in poor condition, or pain and sorrow of any kind, or short of all comfort that they want to have, that they themselves want to have. But they don’t want Master to have anything like that. No wife, no kids, no family, no friend, no possession, no clothes, no food even. Eat food, has to be very poor food. Walk bare feet, no shoes. No clothes would be best. That kind of Master, that people want. The Master has all Heaven and Earth. And they expect the Master to be poor, suffer, pain, sorrow, all kinds. Meanwhile, they themselves ask for Master’s blessing, so that they are rich, healthy, happy, famous, marry well to a good family, pass exam so have good job…But the Master’s not allowed any of that. That’s why I told you this world is miserable and sadistic. You see or not? Am I right? (Yes.) So, what did I say about restaurant? Now, I went there because of Mexican food. Oh sorry, no, no, that’s not the one. I went to the Thai restaurant next to the Mexican food. I don’t always go but sometimes at home food was no good. I hadn’t had time to buy any vegetables yet, so if I passed by a restaurant, I ate first before I collapsed in the supermarket. And then there was a Thai restaurant. I forgot. And then I sat at one table and a couple sat next to me. And they were talking. The man sat next to me. The lady sat in front almost opposite to me, because the two tables were next to each other. I sat here, she sat there. And she was kind of making conversation, she said, “Where do You come from?” This is a very famous sentence. I wish I never had to hear it. Story of my life. Because if you tell them where you come from, then they start to ask another. “How long have You been there? Were You born there? You married there? Etc., etc. Did You study there? Your parents are still there? Do You have sisters and brothers still there?” And no end. I don’t know why everybody asks me the same stuff. Sometimes, I pretend the phone rang or something, and then I just put the phone next to my ear, then they stop. I didn’t say anything. I just put the phone next to my ear and then they stopped. I used to have a phone, a very simple phone. You know, one of those dumb-dumb phones, you call it. Nowadays, if you look at the iPhone, you don’t remember in what dynasty my phone is made. So, anyways, that time, I still had that kind of phone. Until I went to Kaohsiung, because in Kaohsiung these kinds of dumb-dumb phones don’t work at all. So, they began to educate me into a new civilization. They bought me an iPhone but a different company. And later I asked them to help me to set up everything, so that I just push this button, that button, and everything functions, then they could not do it. They could not set it up because they said, “Master, this phone, You better buy an Apple phone.” I said, “Why? You like apples? I like all kinds of fruit.” He said, “No, Apple is more user-friendly.” I’m not trying to advertise. This is one of your brothers who told me that. I said, “OK, then buy me an Apple phone.” Because he and she, both of them, have Apple phones. And they both told me that Apple phones are easier to use. They didn’t want to say for a phone-unacquainted like me, or for a dumb-dumb phone, dumb-dumb like me. So, they say, “It’s easier for the user, Master.” I said, “OK, then buy me one and set it up.” So, it’s easier for them to set up. But before this civilization dawned on me, I had those simple phones. But it’s very convenient, because if I just pushed a button on the side, then it’d ring, like a phone ringing. So, every time I want to terminate the friendly inquisition, I just put my hand in my pocket or wherever the phone is, I push that button quietly, and it rings. Wow! And I put that phone up to my ear, then everything stops. Time stands still and then I can just go on with my eating or whatever. Otherwise, they won’t even let me eat. I don’t know what is in me that they keep asking me no end. What’s it got to do with them, whether I’m married or not, or I married in Âu Lạc (Vietnam) or I married in America, or wherever? And then what car I have, how did I get here? Do I have a long-term visa? Short-term visa? Do I have a house here? How big is the house? How many rooms? It has a swimming pool or not? And how big is the garden? What kind of trees? Do you plant fruit trees and flowers? OK, the couple. She asked me again, these kinds of big questions, “Where are You from?” Then I have to be obliged to tell her. And then, “How long have You been here?” Then I’m obliged again to tell her. And she asked me then about Spain, because I lived there at that time. I said, “I live here.” So, she asked me about the weather, the people, how comfortable it is, because she came from maybe Scotland or England. I forget. And she wanted to buy an apartment or a house here and live here. I said then, “Why don’t you? It’s good weather all year round and you see where we live here, is next to the sea and healthy and you have many restaurants and a lot of foreigners. You will not feel like a stranger in a foreign land here. Everybody speaks English here.” I told her that. I told her what I knew. I said, “We have Italian, Spanish, Mexican, Thai, Chinese, all the restaurants. Pakistan restaurant even. All kinds of restaurants. Indian, Thai; all kinds of restaurants. And you’ll be spoiled with choice and you will enjoy it here.” I enjoyed it there too, of course. I have to tell you the truth. Not that like good things, I don’t care. I’m not that ascetic. I’m not Lord Mahavira at that time. Sorry for Him but... And then, so we got talking, and then she said she wanted to buy a house here, but her husband doesn’t want to. He likes where he is and she just feels very frustrated. So, I said, “He’s very loyal, that’s why.” She said, “What? He’s so stubborn and wants to stay in such a rainy and old town and you say he is loyal?” I said, “Yeah. He likes what he has, and he doesn’t ask for more, and he’s happy with what he has, and he’s loyal to his place.” Then she was what kind of agreeing with me, said, “Oh, I didn’t think of it that way.” I said, “Yeah. You should, because that’s why he’s loyal to you. You’re married how long already?” She said, “Thirty-something years.” I said, “You see what I mean? And he’s still interested in you. He keeps talking to you. He doesn’t look left or right, nothing. He doesn’t even look at the pretty girl like I am, next to him. Such a beautiful young chick. He doesn’t even care.” So, I pointed this out to her. So, she’s less upset about him. She said, “Wow! I never thought about it this way. I thought he’s very stubborn and very close-minded. But now You tell me he’s loyal. Yeah. I think You’re right. Where did You get all this wisdom?” Because we got talking more and more, and she asked me many other questions and I answered her. And she said, “Where? You look so young. Why You’re so wise? Where did You get all this wisdom?” I said, “Well, you know, you travel around, and people teach you things.” Just like that. And that’s it.

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 6 of 6 July 14, 2019

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 6 of 6 July 14, 2019

Because mostly, you love your enemy. That’s the way it’s arranged in this world, so that you will equalize the hatred that you had with each other formerly. That’s how it goes. Life has to be about love. I wanted to tell you that because not only American husbands, but other people, other countries’ husbands, they’re also very loyal to their wives. And I’m very, very happy about that. In Spain, for example… That is from Scotland or England. In Spain also, whenever I talk to some men for anything… I normally don’t go anywhere, meet any man. It’s just when maybe in the restaurant, to the waiter, or the taxi, or the shop, or some people who worked in my house to repair things, they always talked very highly about their wives. Always my wife this, my wife that, my wife here, my wife there – seemed very respectful and endearing. And I was very happy. So, if any of you women complain about your husband, I think you should also introspect your style, your lifestyle; whether or not you cook too casually, and you do not put enough love in there, or not enough care to please your husband’s palate; whether or not you listen to his complaints or his requirements for some small things; or you are too bossy. You take care of all the small things, like who should be the next president, and you give him big things, like where do we go shopping next morning. And whether or not you take care about his feelings; just by the way. Whether or not you still respect and love him, or trying at least. Whatever it is, I think you’ve got the upper hand at home, because you put all the men at home to take care of the children and household, and you are here, all of you, the women. And these are the brave and rare escapists that could be in front of my face every Sunday, and they take turns even. I don’t see the same men every weekend, but I see the same women all the time. Please be merciful. We’re Quan Yin practitioners. We have also compassion and fairness. Let him also have a chance to see his Master. I don’t want to talk about that again. I know what you do at home. Don’t have to tell me. I know everything. Master knows everything. It’s good. Women mostly have more common sense, that I understand. But common sense does not always mean intelligence or wisdom. You must have love and wisdom as well. To be right all the time is not good for you, for your love relationship. You have to be also sometimes feminine, sometimes very cooperative. And let your husband also be right sometimes, in some small matter. Let him feel like a man. And don’t use all those excuses to say, “You don’t know anything anyway. You stay home. I go listen to Master.” Don’t use all his shortcomings to make advantage for you to do anything you want, or go anywhere you want and neglecting his feelings and his privileges and his rights; especially spiritual. Got that? (Yes!) You say “yes,” but behind me, you do “no.” I don’t know. Let other people practice, also is meritorious for you. That man really, he was just focused on talking to his wife. Even his wife talked to me and then because it concerned both, so he turned around a second and said, “Yeah, yeah,” like that. And then he turned back to her again. You imagine? Such a beautiful chick like me, young and beautiful and he didn’t care. And his wife was already older, just like you, maybe like me now, but that was ten years ago. I was still pretty; just joking with you. What I mean is, in the restaurant, there were also many other people, but he just focused on his wife, talking to her about what. I didn’t really listen, but I mean, things that were not really important, just only both of them interested in. So maybe after that, she’ll look at him with different eyes. She will have more respect and love for him, which is good for both of them. If you love your husband and respect your husband, also good for you, because he’s happy. And he’s happy, he will make you happy too, and happy atmosphere. What for you always have to be right? If not necessary, there’re many ways to be right. It doesn’t have to always be so rough. There was a story about a couple. Their neighbor, the two neighbors were going together on a pilgrim somewhere and they talked about their neighbors, a couple, behind their backs, of course. One of the pilgrims, one of the men said to the other man, he said, “You know what? My neighbors, they never argue. Never! The husband and wife are always very harmonious together, peaceful. My God! I wish my marriage life was also like that.” And he asked, “How about you?” You know, how about the other guy. He said, “Oh, you know, marriage is always like that. I don’t believe what you told me about the neighbors couple who never argue. I don’t believe that. I don’t believe you.” He said, “OK. After this, we come back to my village. I’ll invite you to my house and then you stay there a while longer, and then we’ll go visit the neighbors, and then you will believe me, that such a couple in perfect unison and harmony exists.” OK. Fine. After the pilgrimage, they came back and then, of course, they went to visit the neighbor’s house. And then the neighbor asked the husband about their marriage, the neighbor’s husband, the good couple’s husband about their marriage, how they managed to stay all these years without even one harsh word or one disagreement. He said, “Very easy. We are just like that.” So, the friend, the visitor said, “What do you mean like that? Can you tell us an example?” He said, “Well, not really. I don’t really have an example, because we just live on every day, and we don’t even think about anything, and we just live like that.” So, he said, “OK, OK.” And the neighbor who introduced, was not happy because the visitor did not believe him. So, he said, “You stay here longer with me and then we will find out. Maybe this couple, they’re just too natural or too shy or they don’t even think that they are in harmony, because they are always like that. So, you stay longer.” And after a while, they saw the husband going out to do something. They have a little hen “cuckookoo,” the chicken, but who doesn’t coo in the morning. So, they think maybe they need a new pot in the house. They could do with an extra pot. So, they talked to each other. The wife said they should go and sell this hen and then buy a pot. The husband OK’ed immediately, no argument. So, he took the hen, went outside… But then, on the road, there’s somebody else who wanted to sell him something in exchange for the hen, so the husband bought that. Maybe bought a little dog or something and brought it home. And the wife also said, “Ah! This is very good! Good idea! You bought a dog. Now we have a little company. I didn’t really need that extra pot anyway. I don’t know why I talked about that.” OK, good. And then later, later on, the dog made a lot of noise. Puppy, peed and pooed all over the house, made noise, so the wife said, “Oh, maybe we should exchange it for something else. You take him out and see who wants something else.” I made up the story along, but it’s based on the original story. I forgot what it was that he exchanged the chicken for. So, the husband took the dog. Of course, these two, the neighbor and the visitor followed them, just spied, quietly to spy, to see what he’s doing, and then followed him back home to see what the wife’s reaction was. So, then the husband took the dog out, and then somebody wanted that dog, it’s so cute, so exchanged it for maybe a pig or a smaller pig. It’s all right. So, the husband did not buy the pot anymore, and still took a pig instead, brought the pig home, and the wife said, “Oh, wonderful! How did you know? How do you know to do things? A pig is good for us. It brings luck. Very good, very good!” And so, the pig stayed. And then later, the pig also went all over the house, because they didn’t have a room, didn’t have a place for the pig, and they made a place, but the pig escaped and all that, so too much trouble. And the wife didn’t know how to feed the pig; never fed a pig before. So, she said, “Never mind, I think we still need to buy a pot instead of a pig. The pot we can use, and we don’t have to take care, and don’t need extra food for the pot. You know, the pig eats a lot.” So, OK. The husband took the pig outside, and went all over, and then exchanged for this and that, always the wife said, “OK! Good, good, good!” And later had to change. Finally, the husband took the last item, whatever that was. You imagine, whatever you say, it’s fine with me. Outside, and then on the road, he saw a man who was carrying a hen. That was his hen before! All the while, it’s still here. He said, “Oh, what are you doing with the hen?” He said, “Well, I bought it for my kid, but he didn’t like it, so I went out to see if anybody wants to exchange it for something.” He said, “Oh, good, good! OK. I have this. Do you want to exchange?” And he said, “Yeah! This is just what I wanted.” I don’t know what then? What else can we have? Maybe a little rabbit or something. “Yeah, I like. My kid would like that. OK. How about we swap it?” So then, the husband took the hen back home, and the other guy took the rabbit. When the husband came home, the wife exclaimed, “Wow! Nice to see the hen again! My God, I missed you! You’re really a good husband. You know what your wife wanted really, so thank you so much!” So, everything ended happily. So now, the neighbor and the visitor came back home and discussed it. He said, “You lose ten dollars.” They bet. “Now, give it to me. You see they never argue. See that?” This is the kind of relationship, it’s like best friends, best buddies, but hard to find. Even my so-called disciples argue with me all the time, many times. Not all of them, and not one person all the time, but they don’t argue maybe, but they do opposite things and all that. It causes some chaos and some confusion and trouble, and delays and timing lost and all that stuff. So, very difficult to find such a relationship in our world. But still, you try your best, because if your house is not peaceful, it’s difficult to find peace of mind. Because you face it; when you sit in meditation, you’re always thinking, “What did he say? Why did he say that to me? He should have apologized! I will make him apologize after I meditate, after I finish this session. God. One and a half more hours, I will let him know who is right.” For example. They’re always in your mind and you go nowhere. Peaceful solution is always the best. Even if you lose face or something, who cares? So, even if it’s your enemy, you just bear with it, because mostly, you love your enemy. That’s the way it’s arranged in this world, so that you will equalize the hatred that you had with each other formerly. That’s how it goes. Life has to be about love. So, if your husband, wife, kids happen to be your enemy and you know it for sure, well, just too bad. Just try to live on with it, until maybe next life, if you come back. I don’t wish you to come back but maybe you have to. If you don’t long enough to go Home, then this is where you stay. All right then. Time to go. OK, comrades. I’m leaving to have some food. If I invite someone else, you just take it as if I invited you, OK? (OK.) Just be happy. (OK.) Thank you. I said if I invite someone else, you just be happy as if it’s you. Then you’ll also have the same feeling, without food. Girls are too smart. Your husband can’t win argument with you, right? They can’t win argument with you. "Master is so beautiful." Thank you. You’re beautiful. I’m old, where is the beauty? I make up a little bit just for the videos, to be shown on TV. I am also a model to sell the clothes. Wearing loose clothes is better for meditation. Isn’t it? (Yes.) You can also wear it at home. It’s more comfortable to wear loose clothes when you meditate. It’s better for blood circulation, and it looks nice too, in case you have a fat bottom, or stout legs. Are you all Taiwanese (Formosan)? (Yes.) The locals. Well, you see me very often, so no need to envy them, OK? (OK.) I’m going to eat now. I haven’t even eaten yet. Nevertheless, you girls come a lot; it’s also a kind of compliment and glory to me, because usually girls are jealous with each other. Isn’t it? If a girl becomes famous, we won’t like it very much. Girls are more intuitive. So, you understand better what I say, maybe a little more than boys. So, since many girls follow me, it means I am great. Nobody praises me, so I praise myself. What to do? Before, in the time of enlightened Master Krishna, many girls followed Him at that time. He was surrounded mostly by girls. His attendants were girls, His companions were also girls. It was said that Krishna was very good-looking and attractive. You could tell from His photos. So, every time, when there was a chance to see Him, the news was spread by word of mouth, because there was no telephone at the time. So, they passed the words to one another. As it was too rushed, sometimes, the lipstick ended up here. The eyebrows or eyeliners were all messed up. Maybe at that time, not everyone could have a mirror. So, they did their makeup in a messy way. And Krishna would laugh whenever He saw that. Maybe they did that on purpose to make their Master laugh. It’s good that you all look neat. Wow! Everyone has an electric fan. That’s great. You take good care of yourselves. That’s good. I won’t need to worry then. I’m sorry. Because it’s hot and there are so many people here. Can’t afford to squeeze, but still squeeze in. No. I’m glad to see you, too. I’m glad you live so long. "Yes. Master, I love You very much. Please take care of Yourself." I love you too. You also take care. (OK.) Wow, how come your skin is still so shiny? No wrinkles, I can lend you some. You’re still here? I saw many old brothers and sisters who have followed me for thirty years, are still here. OK. Good appetite. (OK.) Bon appétit.

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 1 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

Now, I just want to tell you, just want to remind you. Because all of these stories and the merit that you acquire when you take care of the Buddha’s stupas, or you offer to the living Buddhas or the past Buddhas or the sangha - all of this is for the ordinary people - the people who want to be reborn again as gods in Heaven - maybe small gods, big gods, depends on their merit - or people who like to become humans again, with richness and power. But always being chased by the (bad) karma…. So mind you, all the merit that we dedicate to be a god, or angels or divas or humans with position, power, and money, brings us nothing, protects us from nothing. (Bad) karma is still there chasing after us, life after life, until somehow it’s dissolved. So it’s no safety. No safety at all for us to stay in the Heavens or stay on Earth with all power, merit, whatever it is. It’s all impermanent. So it’s better we practice, like immediate enlightenment, and then from then on you will never worry about anything else.

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 2 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

So that's why we should never, never ask to be born again, or even in this lifetime, to become a king or anything. You have enough food to eat, you have enough clothes to wear; that is the best thing already. And whatever's left, maybe you can spare it, then you give it to the poorer people. Whatever you can. Even just a little bit of something, some food. The food that we've wasted on our planet in every rich country, we could use that to nourish the whole planet three times over. We must organize together. The food organizations, the food ministries of all the countries have to sit together and tackle this intelligently, compassionately, or else. Or else we all have consequences. This story's about somebody named Đại Thí. He's the one who tried to empty the ocean. “Thus I have heard.” At one time, the Buddha was in the country called La-duyệt-kỳ (Rajagariha) in the mountain Linh Thứu (Ghridhrakuta). “Kiều-trần-như (Kaundinya), and then Mahakasyapa, and then Sariputra, and then Maudgalyayana, and another 500 big monks came out one by one, one by one, wanting to be His attendant. But He refused them all.” It's not easy. Everybody wants to be the Buddha's attendant. But you have to be able also.

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 3 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

At that time, one of the monks, he somehow intuitively knew that the Buddha wanted Ananda. And other people also understood that. And then Sariputra and Maudgalyayana came up to me and said, “Annada, I think the Buddha wants you to be His attendant. Come, get up quickly and then ask the Buddha to allow you to be His attendant.” “I don't know what to do. So I said, ‘If the two great elderly Reverends think thus, then please come and ask the Buddha for me. But in order to be the Buddha's attendant, I request three privileges.’” What do you think he asked? “Number one, if the Buddha had old clothes, he will not want to accept it.” “Number two, whatever the Buddha ate that's left over, do not give it to me.” “Number three, it's meaning that, depending on the season and time, only he himself will take care for the Buddha.” So the two great disciple monks came up and told all that to the Buddha. Then the Buddha explained like this: “But you should know it's not just this day. It's not just in this lifetime that he asked for this.” “A long time ago, past life, he also serve me and also did this.” Maybe that's why he knew everything. He knew about what Buddha wanted and what time he should give what. He was very pure and good. He was unconditional.

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 4 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

“Obeisance to the World Honored One. In the past life how did Ananda serve You? How did he know when to do what and when to give You what?” So the Buddha said, “A long, long time ago, limitless time past, at that time there was a king who ruled a very big country. In that capital city, there was a Brahmin man, Brahmin. And the king respected him like a teacher.” “So his first wife got pregnant. She gave birth to a son… I give him the name Great Charity.” “And this boy was very, very diligent and he loved to study. And he was also very intelligent already, so he learned everything by heart so quickly.” “One day, he said to his father, ‘Respected father, I’ve stayed in this palace a long, long time already. Please can I go out and have a look outside to see what the other people are doing?’” “A bunch of beggars…a group of people killing and preparing animals…farmers…hunters…the fishermen….” “Since then, since he saw all that, he saw that everyone was so ignorant and doing such terrible karma, he became very sad. And then he was thinking how to help all beings so that they had everything, not just physical contentment but also spiritually and mentally and everything.”

Then he came up to his father and said, "Respected Father, just now I went out into the suburban areas, into the rural areas, and I saw that our citizens, because for survival, are doing many things that are karmically heavy. After they die definitely they will fall into the Three Evil Paths." "Please, can you give me one of our stores of food so that I can go and give it to them." After a while of charity, many of the stores in his house had gone down. And then Great Charity thought to himself, "So, what can I do now so that I can continue to give to the citizens so that they are happy and contented?" "OK, maybe I'll go deep into the sea to find precious stones. That should be the best." And then 500 people liked to come with him. They were just walking and then the robbers came and took everything. They came to a citadel, a city, called Supara city. In this city, there was a noble person, a rich person. His name was Kapali. He had one daughter, very, very beautiful. Now, the Great Charity man came in front of the city wall, in front of the house, and knocked at the door and wanted to borrow some money. She came in and told her father, "Ba! Outside, there's a person knocking at the door. He's my husband!" And, of course, the noble rich man was so happy. Everything that he lost, he replenished them all.

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 6 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

After he brought the gold and everything back, he told everybody to buy a good boat and everything had to be very thick. And then after everybody arranged to go home, he said, "I'll stay here. I want to go down to the King of the Ocean and ask for the Wish-Fulfilling Gem. Then I can give to all the world's people. And it's never, never finished." "I do not fear the long distance and the dangerous journey going to the sea to take out the treasures, to help other citizens, so that they will not be hungry and thirsty anymore. This merit I dedicate to all the Buddhas in the ten directions. I want to forward it only to my Buddhahood in the future." And then he went down to sea now. Then he saw the King of the Ocean, sitting there on his jeweled throne, a seven-jeweled throne. And he saw Great Charity come in; he was so surprised. He was thinking, "How can he come here? He must be full of merit." And then the King of the Ocean felt very respectful. "But you stay here for one month first so that I can make some offerings to you. And then you preach to me." And then the King of the Ocean took the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel from his tuft of hair, and give it to him, and then he said, "Great Charity, Sir, your merciful heart is so great, so big. Your willpower is so incredible. In the future, you definitely will be a Buddha. After you become Buddha, please accept me then as a disciple with wisdom."

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 7 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

Walking for a while, he saw another citadel with walls all like green diamonds. And this, another Ocean King, sat on his seven-jeweled throne. So he asked, "Bodhisattva, is there something necessary that you have to come here?" So he said, "Your Majesty, I come here requesting of you the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel to help my people." So the King of the Ocean said, "Sir, this one can rain down food for all beings within 4,000 square miles. If you want to have it, please stay here two months. Every day, give me a lecture." After a while, he saw another citadel. And then the king, another King of the Ocean, sitting on his seven-jeweled throne. So he said, "This jewel can rain down seven kinds of jewels in the vicinity of 8,000 square miles. If you want it, you stay four months, preach to me, so that I know some of the Buddha's true Dharma." There were some dragons around there, knowing that Great Charity had come to the Ocean King, and had gotten the best Wish-Fulfilling Jewel, so they became greedy. And he thought to himself, "So it can only be the dragons that stole my jewels. I spent so much time and went through so much hardship to get them so that I can rescue other beings, to fulfill my wish of charity to give it to others. Even if I die, I will not go back home empty-handed. I will scoop all the water from the ocean until I see you down there."

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 8 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

“And then at that time, there was a person in the peaceful heaven. He looked down and saw that Great Charity was so determined to do good works to help all beings in the world. So he asked many of his friends in heaven, heaven friends to come down and quietly help. After the dragons saw that the water level kept lowering, they were so scared. …They returned the three jewels.” “So when Great Charity came back, he came and prostrated in front of the parents. Both of them were so touched, so in awe.” “And then, from then on, the whole planet, everyone had everything they needed, including jewelry and precious substances. And then he asked someone else to come in, announcing something again, ‘Now, I would like all of the citizens to try to practice the Ten Wholesome Deeds, and keep your speech, action and thinking pure and merciful, compassionate, loving and kind, filial and protective of each other….’” “At that time, on the planet here, everyone relying on his blessing had everything they needed, and also diligently practiced the Ten Wholesome Deeds. Because of that, after they died, all of them went to Heaven.” “Now the Buddha reminded everybody, ‘The Great Charity person was my former incarnation. And the Ocean King, who stayed in the golden citadel now is Ananda, who treated me generously and respectfully.’”
