My name is Nora, and I am a polar bear from Spirited Alaska, USA. In honor of the brand new year, the animals of our world would like to share some good news, warm wishes, and blessings with you. “We dogs are praying every day that there will soon be a vegan world! And we are doing our part to make it happen!” “Every day, we whales bless the ocean and fulfill our role in sustaining our planet.” My little cubs asked me to say “hi” and let you know that they are counting on you to do you part to save their polar habitat! “I know that 2020 is going to be a terrific year because I hear so much great news as I fly overhead!” “I live quietly in my burrow, and I didn’t know that so much was happening! This is certainly a Golden Era, and our world will soon be filled with abundance and peace. The future generations, both human and animal, will be living in a true paradise.”

Winter is the coldest time of the year, when the days are shorter and the nights are longer. It is a season of rest, and a period to conserve, rather than expend, energy. So, what is hibernation? It is like a long, deep sleep for animals and a time. Animals prepare to enter this state by eating a lot during the summer and autumn seasons to store fat to last them throughout the winter. Did you know that a pregnant American black bear could give birth during hibernation? She does not even need to wake herself to take care of her cubs. Instead, she can nurse her babies for months from the stored fat she has on reserve. Did you know that some animals in hot climates also undergo a form of hibernation? This is called estivation. Supreme Master Ching Hai spoke about the spiritual purpose of hibernation for animals during an August 23, 2009 lecture given in France. “There are some spiritual reasons. You see, because every day, animals, they’re also busy looking for food and taking care of their family, and so during wintertime, they take advantage of the natural cycle and they go into hibernation; they sleep in winter to recover their spiritual strength, apart from other things.”

Today we would like to share with you some amazing stories of animals who turned their selfless concern into loving action for the benefit of others. Let’s start with a cat named Kuu. Cat Assists Dog with Dementia. Cat Saves Baby from Danger. Dog Keeps Lost Child Safe and Warm. Cat Saves Caregiver from Fire. Dog Saves Family from Fire. Let’s now meet a bull calf named Oliver. Bull Calf gives Love to Blind Bison. Just like humans, we animals are beings that have feelings. There are times when each of us needs some support, and these are the opportunities for those close to us to let their nobility shine and give selflessly. I trust you have enjoyed today’s stories and are perhaps even inspired to lend a softer heart and a more generous hand to all of Earth’s inhabitants.

Some correctional facilities offer animal-assisted therapy as a form of treatment to selected inmates who demonstrate good behavior. Today, we find out about the benefits of these programs, how they work, and why they have been proven effective. In Australia, the Queensland Corrective Services runs the minimum-security Palen Creek Correctional Centre. The Centre works with a program that finds homes for greyhounds. Liam the greyhound was fostered by an inmate so he would become accustomed to life as an animal companion. Let’s now hear from Liam’s foster father at the Centre regarding his experiences as a program participant. “He’s also never judgmental; he’s happy no matter what your mood is and what you’re doing. So he’s happy to cruise around and smile and be with you. I think also having an animal involved in this program helps with the communication between officers and inmates.” Animals love us for who we are. Some animals even can touch individuals who do not show emotion, including the inmates sometimes referred to as the “tough guys” in incarceration facilities. Dogs and cats can help to teach prisoners about care and gentleness. Correctional facility-based animal programs save the lives of animals and aid inmates in growing in humanity and expanding their personal development.

Starting from Butte County in November 2018, the wildfire rapidly spread into an area of 240 square miles in a few hours. North Valley Animal Disaster Group, a volunteer-based NGO, immediately sprang into action to assist animals displaced by the fire. “During the Camp Fire, we served over 10,000 animals here in Butte County.” Founded in 2002, the North Valley Animal Disaster Group (NVADG) work with public and private agencies to evacuate and shelter animal friends in emergency situations. They also educate communities in ways to protect animal companions during emergencies. Its members have demonstrated tremendous love in times of crisis. Despite all the losses and hardships, members of the organization managed to supply the shelters with food and much needed supplies for all the rescued animals. You are a marvelous example of courage and love, North Valley Animal Disaster Group! May the legend of your quick actions and selfless kindness spread far and wide to encourage more acts of compassion around the world.

I’m Aina, a vegan miniature horse from magnificent Germany. People are more relaxed when they spend time with animals because we give unconditional love and do not judge them in any way. Research has shown that caring for animals increases overall human well-being in many respects. Dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, pigs and other species serve as therapy animals. Many agree that simply being around their dog companion fills their heart with a sense of happiness, contentment, and peace. Those with cat companions also express how much fun, peace, and happiness these amazing beings bring into their lives. Daniel is an Indian Runner duck and a registered emotional support animal. We beautiful and intelligent miniature horses also serve as therapy animals. We have aided many, including survivors of tragedies and disasters. Animals give tremendous love and can help meet people’s physical, behavioral, and emotional needs.

We are honored to speak to one of their board members, Ms. Debbie Mueller. “All of our shelters and agencies have been greatly supported from all over the United States and other countries. And we served a lot of animals and for most people, our animals are part of our family and it’s just another important life that needs to be saved.” Debbie has graciously shared with us what we should do for our animal friends to prepare animal friends to prepare for unprecedented situations. “You should have a go plan for yourself and your animal and a go bag. So a plan being, ‘OK, where am I going to go if there is a disaster? Whose home can I go to? Do I have friends or family elsewhere? Are my pets or animals welcome?’ If you have large animals, you need to look at, are there surrounding stables or ranch land where you could take your animals?” We would like to give you the Shining World Compassion Award from Supreme Master Ching Hai for North Valley Animal Disaster Group in recognition of courageous selfless advocacy for voiceless animals, protecting, defending, and sheltering during adversity. With compliments and gratitude for your compassionate and benevolent commitment to save precious animal live.

Gold-colored animals are relatively rarer, so they are admired by humans, just like the precious metal! Regarded by some as the world’s most beautiful equine, our breed is famed for our toughness, resilience, and endurance, in addition to our legendary speed and intelligence. Some of our breed looks as if they had been dipped in gold! Another animal with a radiant, golden coat is the Golden Retriever, which is one of America’s most popular dog breeds. A domestic cat known for having a golden coat is the ginger cat or tabby. The golden jewel scarab beetle of Central America is one of the world’s most brightly colored insects. The goldenrod crab spiders, native to North America, make flowers such as goldenrod and daisies their home. The Panamanian golden frog is a type of toad. This species is cherished by Panamanians and is the national animal. Banana slugs are often bright golden yellow and sometimes spotted with brown blotches, thus resembling a ripe banana.

Pet Medical Crisis Fund (PMCF) is a unique charity located at Melbourne, Australia. Raising money to cover the veterinary costs so senior citizens and disadvantaged groups are able to afford otherwise unaffordable vital treatment for their treasured animal friends. PMCF founder, Ms. Jennifer Hunt, created it in 2010 after realizing how fortunate she was to be able to afford the surgery costs for her family’s beloved canine companion, Jed. In the past ten years, PMCF has distributed over $470,000 Australian dollars to pay veterinary care for 520 animal friends. PMCF sees as its mission to sustain the nourishing connection between animal companions and the people. Animal companions are particularly important for people of special needs. “We help all sorts of animals. Any type of pet that we can save and save the life of the pet and the heart of the owner is really important to us.” Supreme Master Ching Hai “thankfully present Jennifer Hunt the Shining World Compassion Award and contribute US$15,000 toward her noble fund with love and gratitude in God’s mercy.”

The Honorable Emma Hurst is a member of the Australian state of New South Wales’ Legislative Council where she uses this platform to tirelessly campaign for animal protection reform and animal rights. Ms. Hurst is also a long time vegan, plant-based bodybuilder and a registered psychologist. “I didn’t want to kill animals. I had no idea that even eating organic or free-range eggs, meant that all day-old male chicks in the egg industry would be macerated. And that in the dairy industry, that calves will be torn away from their mothers and taken to slaughterhouses. When I read all this information, it was just like the lights switched on, and I just went vegan overnight. I worked for Animal Liberation for over a decade. I’ve also worked for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). And I decided that it was really people that needed to change, not animals.” Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Joyfully present The Honorable Emma Hurst the Shining World Leadership Award for Compassion, with all love, a big hug and best wishes, in Heaven’s grace. May you and all your supporters forever be in God’s favor.”

Once elected to Parliament, the Honorable Emma Hurst presented a powerful inaugural speech that has been applauded by people around the world. “My promise to the animals is this: You have all of me. The lioness in the circus, I see you. The pig in the sow stall, I see you. The mouse in the medical experimentation facility, I see you. The fish crushed at the bottom of a trawler net, I see you. I know you’re suffering, and I will never be silent. I will push forward, no matter what life throws my way, because the cruelties inflicted on you must end, and I will do all I can to see that happen.” Ms. Hurst’s inaugural speech has touched many people’s hearts and has inspired audiences worldwide to be courageous and motivated to march on the path of compassion and veganism. We, as a society, are ultimately responsible for the ways in which we treat all cohabitants. To that end, Emma is a proponent of transparency within the animal industries. And the more Ms. Hurst speaks candidly about the plight of animals everywhere, the more people are sitting up and taking notice, even those who seem unlikely to do so.

With our round cheeks and wide smiles, we quokkas have been dubbed one of the cutest animals on our planet. We are covered with short, very course and thick, grizzled brown fur with lighter parts underneath. Our relatively short tail has very little hair, but our feet are very hairy! On our cute and lovely face are a big, black nose, a pleasing mouth, and a pair of charming black eyes. In 2013, quokkas were given the title of “The Happiest Animal in the World” by American news website HuffPost.Com, because to humans, we always seem to be smiling. Our cutest chubby-cheeked smile can range from a tiny beam to a toothy grin. It is not that the structure of our mouth or jaw makes us have to smile. It is our cheerful nature. Our biggest threat is deforestation, which reduces our habitat ranges and food sources. Climate change, which affects the vegetation and rainfall, is also a threat to us. We urgently call for global action to stop the destruction of natural habitats and the adoption by humans of the sustainable vegan lifestyle.

This two-part series focuses on certain epidemics and pandemics from the past two decades that have killed many, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS), Ebola, swine flu, avian flu, and coronavirus and their roots in meat consumption or animal livestock raising, or both. We also cover how a plant-based diet is the best way to minimize zoonotic diseases or infectious diseases caused by the transmission of germs between animals and humans. “Scientists estimate that more than 6 out of every 10 known infectious diseases in people can be spread from animals, and 3 out of every 4 new or emerging infectious diseases in people come from animals.” This is known as zoonotic disease transmission. The CDC defines an epidemic as the number of cases of a transmittable disease arising suddenly above the expected level in a given population within a short period of time. A pandemic is “an epidemic that has spread over several countries or continents, usually affecting a large number of people.” It turns out that Mother Nature has already warned humanity about the meat-eating habit. The simple solution of adopting a vegan lifestyle to prevent zoonotic epidemics has been known for a long time. However, this obvious answer has been ignored….

In this two-part program, we will showcase some of the species that live the longest. They are blessed with what is called “biological immortality.” We lobsters are one of those species! Researchers believe that the secret our longevity is an enzyme called telomerase. It protects the ends of chromosomes from shortening and losing some Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) when cells divide. Another species that exhibits “biological immortality” is the naked mole rat. Aside from their defenses against cancer, naked mole rats have two ways to keep their bodies young. Number one, they can withstand high amounts of oxidative stress. Number two, they have high levels of chaperone proteins that stabilize the correct folding of other proteins. As far as we know, Greenland sharks have the longest lifespan of any vertebrate species on the planet. One possible explanation is their extremely slow metabolic rate. Giant tortoises are world-renowned for their long lives. The scientists noted that compared to the mammals, the tortoises had more immune system-protecting gene copies - 12 to be exact, while the mammals only had one. These genes assist the body in neutralizing infections.
