Study concludes animal livestock raising major fatal air pollution source

Anew study found that air pollution from meat, dairy and egg production causesapproximately 12,700 premature deaths in the United States annually. Of theestimated mortality, 5,800 or 46% is attributable to the production of beef anddairy, while the pork, chicken and egg industries caused an estimated 3,300,1,300 and 600 deaths, respectively. The study, led by Nina Domingo, a PhDgraduate student at the University of Minnesota in the United States, highlighted that harmful fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) pollution could comefrom tillage, animal livestock dust, field burning, or tractors’ exhaust, aswell as fertilizer and animal waste. The study states that a significant 83% ofair-quality-related deaths could be prevented by adopting a vegan diet. Ourgratitude for this important study, Nina Domingo and all scientists involved. For the well-being of all, may humanity urgently embrace the life-sustainingplant-based diet, in God’s brilliance.

US city endeavors to phaseout all animal product purchases to address climate change. The City Council ofBerkeley in California, USA, recently passed a resolution setting a goal toreduce the quantity of animal-based products the city purchases by half by2024. Thus, Berkeley will begin serving vegan food at locations and eventsmanaged by the city, such as summer camps, senior centers, and the BerkeleyCity Jail. The measure further states the city “adopts an eventual goal of a100% shift” to serving “plant-based food products.” The resolution, authored byBerkeley City Mayor, the Honorable Jesse Arreguín and Councilmember, theHonorable Sophie Hahn, comes from the efforts of a coalition of animal rightsand human advocacy groups.Mayor Arreguín commented on the resolution, saying:“This is a very important step for the city to take as part of our broaderclimate efforts, as well as…promoting the humane treatment of animals…”Berkeley is the first city council in the US to move towards a completely plant-basedfood purchasing program. Our tremendous appreciation, city of Berkeley and allorganizations involved, for this momentous decision. May your courageousexample be followed by all cities and countries around the world to soonrealize a vegan world for everyone, in Heaven’s delight.
