City council in California, United States, sets goal to end animal product purchases

US city endeavors to phaseout all animal product purchases to address climate change. The City Council ofBerkeley in California, USA, recently passed a resolution setting a goal toreduce the quantity of animal-based products the city purchases by half by2024. Thus, Berkeley will begin serving vegan food at locations and eventsmanaged by the city, such as summer camps, senior centers, and the BerkeleyCity Jail. The measure further states the city “adopts an eventual goal of a100% shift” to serving “plant-based food products.” The resolution, authored byBerkeley City Mayor, the Honorable Jesse Arreguín and Councilmember, theHonorable Sophie Hahn, comes from the efforts of a coalition of animal rightsand human advocacy groups.Mayor Arreguín commented on the resolution, saying:“This is a very important step for the city to take as part of our broaderclimate efforts, as well as…promoting the humane treatment of animals…”Berkeley is the first city council in the US to move towards a completely plant-basedfood purchasing program. Our tremendous appreciation, city of Berkeley and allorganizations involved, for this momentous decision. May your courageousexample be followed by all cities and countries around the world to soonrealize a vegan world for everyone, in Heaven’s delight.

Investigation of animal factories in United Kingdom reveals widespread inhumane treatment of chickens

Chickens endure dreadfulcircumstances in United Kingdom animal factories. Undercover investigationsconducted by Viva!, a vegan animal rights charity, exposed the utterly inhumaneconditions at three chicken factories, which supply major UK grocery outletsAldi, Co-Op, Lidl, Sainsbury’s and Tesco, as well as the fast-food chain KFC.Being left to die of dehydration, allowing feather-pecking between birds, andleaving their deceased bodies to rot are common occurances. In addition, havinglung issues, weakened hearts and broken bones are widespread resulting from thesheer excess weight these birds are forced to carry as they are made to growlarge in a short time.Lex Rigby, head of investigations at Viva!, said: “Ourinsatiable desire for cheap chicken has led to an alarming rise in US-stylemega-farms that prioritize profit over welfare.”Our deep appreciation, Viva!and Lex Rigby, for your vital work. May we all turn towards our inherent loveto guide us on the path of benevolence and quickly end animal killing, inHeaven's kindness.Vegan: cuz like attracts like. If we condone brutality, it will return 2 us manyfold.

European Parliament votes to ban cage use in animal factories

The European Parliamentrecently overwhelmingly voted to prohibit the caging of animals by the animallivestock industry and forbid the horrific practice of force-feeding geese andducks to make foie gras by 2027.The vote was in response to a petition thatwas signed by over 1.4 million citizens. Currently, around 300 million animalsare confined to cages in the European Union (EU) every year. Next, thelegislation’s text will be proposed by 2023, and the 27 EU countries, alongwith the European Parliament, must agree to the law as drafted. The EuropeanUnion is a recipient of four Shining World Leadership Awards forHumanitarianism, two Shining World Leadership Awards for Peace, and a ShiningWorld Leadership Award for Earth Protection; as well as a laureate of twoShining World Leadership Awards for Humanitarianism and Shining WorldLeadership Awards for Compassion, Unconditional World Care and True Caring.Thank you, European Parliament, for supporting the reduction of suffering ofanimals exploited for food and other reasons. We pray that an all-out ban onmeat will soon be implemented worldwide as we urgently respond to the cries forhelp from our animal friends, in the protection of the Providence.

Research shows emissions of animal-based foods twice that of plant-based foods

Anew study concludes that of the 17.3 billion metric tonnes of annual greenhousegases emitted from global food production, 57% is attributed to the meat, eggand dairy industries, which is nearly double compared to the 29% contributionof plant-based food cultivation.According to the analysis, the high emissionsfrom animal livestock raising are mainly due to land use for feed productionand grazing, methane pollution from enteric fermentation of ruminant animals, manure management and deforestation. In particular, the beef and cow milksectors contribute the most to the total animal-based food emissions.Thepaper’s lead author, Dr. Atul Jain, an atmospheric sciences professor at theUnited States-based University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, said, “I’m astrict vegetarian… if people are concerned about climate change, they shouldseriously consider changing their dietary habits.”Our gratitude for the valuablestudy, Dr. Atul Jain and all scientists involved. To save our planet from theclimate crisis, may humanity quickly embrace the low-emission vegan lifestyle,in Heaven’s wisdom.
