Through the Internet, we connect, work, undertake training, learn, recreate, reflect, mobilize, purchase items, do research, etc. We benefit from many conveniences such as taking classes, doing research, and shopping from wherever we are. In fact, we have come to rely so greatly on accomplishing tasks requiring Internet connectivity that a heavy dependence could unfold and result in Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD). Internet addiction could jeopardize mental and physical health, causing a variety of symptoms such as: depression, anxiety, biological clock disruptions, dietary imbalance, insomnia or sleep disturbance, deteriorating eyesight, headaches, neck pain, backaches, or carpal tunnel syndrome.

Various therapies may be suitable for treating Internet addiction; Cognitive behavioral Therapy (CBT) is commonly used to guide the patient to handle life routines, emotional stress, negative thought patterns and compulsive behavior through different approaches. Positive changes are thus enabled one small step at a time.

In addition to professional treatment, the caring support of family and friends plays an important part in the healing process. Internet addicts are encouraged to partake in social activities in order to improve their social skills. Daily exercise, yoga, reading, painting, or meditating can help regain balance, manage stress levels, improve mood and the overall outlook on life. The prevalence of and widespread access to the Internet make adolescents the demographic group with the highest rates of Internet addiction, especially game addiction. Early intervention remains the best and most important course of action to prevent children and teenagers from becoming addicted to Internet gaming.
