“So this is love… Jesus is Love. He didn’t have to say ‘I love you,’ because I knew it. His whole persona was Love at that point. And he lifted me up, and He said, ‘Trust Me, trust Me.’ American minister Reverend Randy Kay died from massive blood clots and describes meeting Lord Jesus (vegetarian), Heaven, angels, and returning with a new mission for life.
Randy, a former science-driven clinician who dismissed near-death experiences, one day cried out to God in frustration, asking Him to reveal Himself. Soon after, he developed extreme calf pain from deep vein thrombosis. The blood clots multiplied, traveled into his lungs, and triggered a deadly blockage. As Randy’s blood solidified, his body convulsed, his heart stopped, and he flatlined. With minimal medical response nearby, he remained clinically dead for 30 minutes.
Randy immediately entered darkness, then sensed rising upward. Light poured down from above. In the distance he saw strange, warring figures, and fear struck him. He cried out the name of Jesus. Instantly, peace came. He felt an arm around him. He was standing, no longer in pain, and knew it was Lord Jesus without words being spoken. “So this is love… Jesus is Love. He didn’t have to say ‘I love you,’ because I knew it… And I just came down to my knees, and He lifted me up, and He said, ‘Trust Me, trust Me.’ And I could feel the whiskers— they were soft— of His beard, His face. Brown hair, longer brown hair… very Middle Eastern. I saw His eyes—they were a brown-olive color. And He looked through me, and He tunneled into everything dark about me and illuminated me with a peace and a comfort that I had never in my whole life, before and after, experienced. To say it was ‘spectacular’ or ‘amazing’ would be a gross understatement.”
Randy saw Heaven as a vast, living Paradise— color more vivid than on Earth, fragrances layered into countless distinctions, nature perpetually alive. The “river of life” flowed literally through the land, radiating from Christ’s Love, nourishing everything. There was no decay, death, or seasonal dying. Lord Jesus walked beside Randy like a close companion, arm around him. Around them were angels— massive, seven feet [2.1 meters] tall, copper-toned with fiery eyes and resonant voices like many speaking at once. They were “otherworldly,” unlike Lord Jesus, who looked deeply familiar and humanlike. Randy saw villages instead of isolated mansions— communities unified in love. There was no prejudice, hierarchy, or division. He saw humans in renewed bodies, including his grandmother, youthful and radiant, whom he instantly recognized.
Randy also witnessed Heavenly activity— people building and creating according to God’s Direction, others praying in intercession for people on Earth. Three individuals, hand-in-hand, prayed for someone still living, asking for their forgiveness and salvation. He understood that Heaven’s actions unfolded through God’s Presence guiding every moment. Randy perceived Lord Jesus’ deep sorrow for humanity’s rejection of Him— the only sadness present in Heaven. “The only sadness I really realized in Jesus was His sadness in looking at those who do not know Him in this world. I don’t think we grasp fully how much God desires to be with His creation— with His beloved. And those who are lost, rejecting Him and wanting to stray away from Him, that is something that He will go to the ends of the Earth—and He has— and delay, if He has to, what His intent is, to save that one lost soul.”
Time did not exist, only awareness. A funnel of contrasting darkness appeared. Lord Jesus explained it was the passage between Earth and Heaven where Randy had entered from. A butterfly landed on Randy’s shoulder— velvet wings of impossible color. Lord Jesus told him it symbolized wisdom that would guide his life, and then said he was being sent back. Randy resisted. Heaven’s joy made returning painful.
“I can say very confidently that none of your loved ones who have gone to Heaven want to come back. I didn’t want to come back. So I challenged Jesus at that point.” Randy asked his purpose. Lord Jesus refused, saying: “I will not give you your purpose in full, otherwise you would rely upon yourself and not upon me.” Lord Jesus instructed him instead to still himself— to live moment by moment focused on God, relying upon that wisdom to guide him through life.
Randy returned to Earth with a transformed understanding of purpose— not achievement, status, or certainty, but intimacy and dependence on God. “My overarching purpose is to love God more. My purpose is to grow closer to the Lord. Because I know the closer I grow to God— the closer I get to Him— the more that what He wants me to do will just spill out of me. And the closer I become to who Christ/God wants me to be, the more I can live almost effortlessly. We’re not [here] to just hang out. We are [here] to be intentional in what we do in every moment of every day to grow closer to God, to hear the voice of God’s Spirit to direct our steps.” (Abundant Life)
Uplifting quote of the day: “Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality.” — Emily Dickinson (vegetarian) American Poet
