Burkhan Khaldun Mountain was inscribed as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) IN 2015. When the Burkhan Khaldun Mountain was registered as a World Heritage Site, it did not only register the mountain. All of the flora and fauna, the whole ecosystem that covered 415,012 square kilometers, was registered together for the World Heritage List. As for the ecosystem of this area, it is uniquely considered as a two-ocean basin. The Kherlen and Onon rivers are Pacific Ocean basins, and the Zakhar, Ninjin and Tuul rivers are basins of the Arctic Ocean.
