As we begin today’s show, we are pleased to welcome an expert whose work has significantly advanced our understanding of early human development. Dr. Verny is a psychiatrist, academic, and author. He has written eight books and co-authored “The Secret Life of the Unborn Child,” which shares eye-opening scientific insights into the development of the baby within the womb. The book empowers parents with the knowledge to help their unborn children, support their development, and create emotional security. In his book, “The Secret Life of the Unborn Child,” he shares that some researchers believe that consciousness exists from the first moments of conception. Indeed, Dr. Verny was surprised to learn that some people have very early memories dating back to childhood and even within the womb. An early patient of his recalled memories of lying in his crib as a young baby. The patient was able to verify specific details with his mother that supported his memory. “At that time, nobody thought of the unborn child as a conscious, remembering, cognitively quite competent little human being. It was assumed that children really before they were born, we were just little blobs of protoplasm and nothing more. And so, it was very important to me to let the world know that there is much more to the unborn child, which also means, of course, that we have to treat that unborn child differently.”“When children are born, the way they cry is already accented by the mother's speech. Like, whatever language, if the mother speaks Chinese, they will have a different kind of cry than if the child was exposed to English or German or whatever, doesn't matter. So they are picking up already in utero, the language from mothers. So it's very, very important for people who are listening to this to talk to their children even before they are born, so that they can start developing language skills and also developing their brain. It's very important to talk to the child, also, to expose them to good music.”“One of the important things that I discovered (is that) newborn children were thought not to have any pain sensations. I mean, how doctors would believe in that is beyond me. And it was only later on, that the chief anesthesiologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Anand, published an article which showed very clearly the newborn and even children during the last trimester could feel pain, and that they had to be treated just like adults.”Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) has spoken about the painful experience of abortion and encouraged people to honor and protect the lives of unborn children. “If you are a baby in the mother’s womb, what would you like? Being torn from limb to limb, to pluck you out, or do you want to wait until your time comes, come out, say ‘hallo’ to the world and contribute, and live the life that God gives you? (I would want to live.) Yes. All beings on this planet want to live. And that’s why God created life.”
