Extraordinary African Ostriches

Today, you will see what makes us ostriches such a unique and exquisite bird, and one to be treasured here on our loving planet. Our incredible eyesight is a great advantage for detecting anything suspicious. Although we can’t fly, we can sustain a running speed of over 50 kilometers or 30 miles per hour for more than an hour. We are the fastest bird on land and the speediest animal on two feet. We use our wings like a rudder, adjusting them to help us turn at high speeds, giving us a dainty running style that any ballerina would envy. Oregon State University, USA, has also seen the potential of our superior leg design and developed a stable, all-terrain bipedal robot. We lay the largest eggs in the world! In the Guinness Book of Records, the biggest recorded egg weighed 5 pounds and 11.36 ounces, or 2.6 kilograms. We can live for over 40 years, and are very adaptable, eating many types of seeds and plants, with the ability to travel long distances to forage for food.

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 4 of 6 July 14, 2019

And Bodhisattvas, Saints, Buddhas are all over, in the ten directions, life after life. They are helping to rescue humans and to lift them up. Of course, friends include Bodhisattvas and Buddhas and Saintly beings. Now, the second type, maybe friend has more than just that. Sometimes, they just happen to be with you for a short while, but then they introduce you to some good teachings or a name of a Master, and it awakens something in you, and then you will go and find more of that teaching or that Master. These are also friends. And we have also invisible friends, like the angels who protect you. Now, there is another group of people; they are "Neutral." They are no harm to you, no good to you. Enemy has two types: outside your circle enemy and inside your circle enemy; we call "secret enemies." The enemy outside, of course, they do things very obviously against you, this is easier to deal with. You can escape, if you know, if you can. Secret enemy is more difficult. They make you even not want to practice anymore. And the worst thing is that they make you lose your belief in the right path to follow, right Master to believe in. These are the worst enemies.

Rebuilding the Foundation of Sustainability Through Compassion: An Interview with Dr. Sailesh Krishna Rao (vegan), Part 2 of 3

Rebuilding the Foundation of Sustainability Through Compassion: An Interview with Dr. Sailesh Krishna Rao (vegan), Part 2 of 3

Today, we are going to continue our discussion with Dr. Rao who introduces his two books and analyzes the environmental issues from a religious and spiritual aspect. Dr. Sailesh Rao also wrote books to raise people’s awareness: “Carbon Dharma: The Occupation of Butterflies” and “Carbon Yoga: The Vegan Metamorphosis” are two of his most important works. “I wrote the first book, “Carbon Dharma,” in 2011, because dharma is what is the right thing to do. And it’s very easy to understand that. The right thing to do is to stop killing. When our killing is causing the planet to die, we should just stop the killing. So that was easy for us to do. And then, yoga is about, how do you do it? So, it’s a process of how do you get to balance in nature? How do you get in alignment with who you really are?” “And it is actually compassion for all life that is at the foundation of all religions.”

Friends of Eternity - A Special Gathering with Supreme Master Ching Hai and Cherished Artists, Part 16

Next up, Mark Janicello, the multi-talented artist and acclaimed actor, singer, author, director, poet, painter and lyricist. We all recognize him as representing Italy in “Loving the Silent Tears.” Please welcome Mark Janicello. This is my song from “Loving the Silent Tears.” “Initiation,” please. “Your Light is reflected in everyone here. It grows, it magnifies, it touches all of us and unites all of us. What You have done for me, I will bring to the rest of the world. I have never met You before. But I feel I have known You forever.” And this last song before I say goodbye to you is the love theme from “The Finellis.” It’s called “Love Will Never Die.” “I will take your hand. You'll be in my heart. Love will never die. Because you're the one for me.”

Dr. William Grant on Bolstering Health Through Sunlight and Vitamin D, Part 2 of 3

Dr. William Grant on Bolstering Health Through Sunlight and Vitamin D, Part 2 of 3

“There are many benefits of sunlight and being in nature. People can have reduced risk of Seasonal Affective Disorder with more UV exposure from (sun) lamps or from taking more vitamin D. Vitamin D has been found to reduce the risk of depression. There has also been studies showing that vitamin D during pregnancy helps increase serotonin levels during pregnancy and that the offspring then have better serotonin production and that serotonin is linked to the risk of autism. Sunlight and Vitamin D can reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s and other dementia.” Animal products are also a risk factor for developing dementia. Dr. Grant explains. “The countries with the highest meat or other animal product consumption had the highest rates of Alzheimer’s and that was about 6% or 7% of the senior population, age-adjusted. Whereas the countries that had very little meat and (ate) mainly grains, and so on, had about 1 or 2%.”

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 5 of 6 July 14, 2019

And my cave in Spain, it was just a cave, a lot of rock and rough and it was not accessible. It's far away from any human's quarter. So, around is all trees and bushes, birds and squirrels and rabbits, and stuff like that. Oh, beautiful place! There's nothing, really, just that. But, for me, it's beautiful, because it's so quiet. But in that cave, I had the biggest ever realization. And the Gift that I gave some of you, also from that time. That was one of the best times in my life, just like in India when I had nothing. I love having nothing. You just feel so free. In heaven, you don't need to want anything. Or even whatever you want, it's already there for you. And even if you want anything extra just for creativity's sake, you just think about it, it's right there. But here, you are not allowed to use this. I'm not allowed to use so many things.

Gentleness is Strength

00:16:48

Gentleness is Strength

Today, I’m going to share with you a story titled “The North Wind and the sun.” “Sun, do you see that traveler wearing a cloak? I propose a contest to resolve our dispute once and for all! The first one to remove the cloak off of his back is the strongest of all!” Despite the strong force of the Wind, the man didn’t take off his cloak, but held on to it even tighter. In the end, the Sun, by offering warmth and comfort, made the man willingly and happily take off his cloak. It’s just like in our lives, sometimes we try to force things to happen and it doesn’t always end well, often distancing us from other people. On the contrary, when we show love and acceptance, people open themselves up to him. Such is the law of “love expands, fear contracts.” With the power of love and understanding, the Korean leaders eventually signed a peace treaty in April, 2018. This proves that the gentle way is actually a form of strength that can produce positive results. Since our story today involves the wind, let’s make a toy that harnesses the wind! How about a pinwheel?

His Holiness Marpa Lotsawa (vegetarian): Remarkable Tibetan Buddhist Master, Part 1 of 4

Marpa the Translator, or Marpa Lotsawa in Tibetan, is one of the most renowned Saints in Tibetan Buddhist history. A great Master and scholar, Marpa Lotsawa was a founding father of the kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. He was a disciple of the great Indian Buddhist yogi, mystic, and Master, Mahasiddha Sri Naropa. Marpa Lotsawa brought many Vajrayana and Mahamudra teachings from India to Tibet and translated them into Tibetan. Born Tarma Wangchuk in Lhodrak Chukhyer, southern Tibet, to wealthy landowners and farmers, Master Marpa was the youngest of four children. He was a very energetic child. To obtain the Dharma, He had to make long and dangerous trips to India against the wishes of His parents and relatives. Therefore, Naropa immediately welcomed Marpa to assume the role of His future lineage holder. Marpa was given abhisekas.

Four Types of Beings in Our Life, Part 6 of 6 July 14, 2019

I wanted to tell you that because not only American husbands, but other people, other countries' husbands, they're also very loyal to their wives. And I'm very, very happy about that. So, if any of you women complain about your husband, I think you should also introspect your style, your lifestyle. You must have love and wisdom as well. You have to be also sometimes feminine, sometimes very cooperative. Because if your house is not peaceful, it's difficult to find peace of mind. They're always in your mind and you go nowhere. Peaceful solution is always the best. So, even if it's your enemy, you just bear with it, because mostly, you love your enemy. That's the way it's arranged in this world, so that you will equalize the hatred that you had with each other formerly. That's how it goes. Life has to be about love. I don't wish you to come back but maybe you have to. If you don't long enough to go Home, then this is where you stay.

Selections from The Zen Poetry of Dōgen (vegetarian) – Verses from the Mountain of Eternal Peace: Part II, Chapter 3

Zen Buddhist Master Dōgen Zenji was the founder of the Sōtō school of Zen Buddhism in Japan, which promotes sitting meditation as the way to enlightenment. The Buddhist Master was one of the most remarkable Zen Masters in history and was also an outstanding poet. The book, "The Zen Poetry of Dōgen - Verses from the Mountain of Eternal Peace," is by Dōgen scholar Steven Heine. It is a complete translation of Dōgen’s collection of thirty-one-syllable Japanese poetry, or waka, plus a translation of a selection of the Master's Chinese verse, or kanshi. It offers a distinct and revealing insight into Master Dōgen’s unique style of Zen naturalist and aesthetic philosophy. "My companions Trekking The six realms - I recognize my father! There is my mother! Contemplating the clear moon Reflecting a mind as the open sky - Drawn by its beauty, I lose myself In the shadows it casts. Traveling the six realms, Seeking the primordial words Of the seven Buddhas of Nara, Which are ceaselessly Pervading all paths."

Angels in the Operating Room: Tricia Barker's Near Death Experience, Part 4 of 4

Angels in the Operating Room: Tricia Barker's Near Death Experience, Part 4 of 4

On today’s program, we’ll learn more about Ms. Tricia Barker’s lessons from Heaven. Ms. Barker believes that overcoming fear is one of life’s greatest challenges. In the classroom, she teaches students one technique for doing so. “And it’s generally fear that prevents us from being in that flow of God. And I just began to show them, ‘You have other options.’ So, I could teach them how to be different, how to look at this world differently.” Through her near-death experience, Ms. Barker came to understand the inter-connectedness of all beings on Earth. She shares how, in each moment, we can help make the world a better place. “And I think that’s maybe one of the most important things we can do is to spread that love and that light across this planet. You can help in more situations than you think you're capable of helping.” “I think near-death experiences help people have greater faith in god. But I wish everybody could every day feel the love of God, feel the energetic experience of God, because there's nothing better.”

Planting Benevolent Seeds in Children’s Hearts – Nepal’s Shree Lho Basic School, Part 2 of 2

Today, we continue to discover additional attributes of this institution and the great works of the teachers who look after youngsters. The Reverend Sonam Chhiling Lama shared with us the importance of daily prayers in student life. “We always do our morning prayers and worship. The main purpose of morning prayers and rites is to make our students wiser and to pay attention to the righteous teachings that guide us.” One joyful result of the school’s establishment is that it has brought local villages closer together. “We sometimes organize community service events. During these events, some people come from the upper hills, while some from the lower villages and they gather together and peacefully socialize during these programs, and cooperate with each other. This is how this school has contributed to our community.” Currently, the Shree Lho Basic School teaches through the 7th grade. However, it will soon expand and eventually serve students through the 10th grade.

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 1 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

00:32:36

Buddhist Stories: Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Part 1 of 10 Aug. 13, 2015

Now, I just want to tell you, just want to remind you. Because all of these stories and the merit that you acquire when you take care of the Buddha’s stupas, or you offer to the living Buddhas or the past Buddhas or the sangha - all of this is for the ordinary people - the people who want to be reborn again as gods in Heaven - maybe small gods, big gods, depends on their merit - or people who like to become humans again, with richness and power. But always being chased by the (bad) karma…. So mind you, all the merit that we dedicate to be a god, or angels or divas or humans with position, power, and money, brings us nothing, protects us from nothing. (Bad) karma is still there chasing after us, life after life, until somehow it’s dissolved. So it’s no safety. No safety at all for us to stay in the Heavens or stay on Earth with all power, merit, whatever it is. It’s all impermanent. So it’s better we practice, like immediate enlightenment, and then from then on you will never worry about anything else.

The Call of Cosmic Evolution: Excerpts from “Leaves of Morya’s Garden” by Spiritual Messengers Nicholas and Helena Roerich (vegetarians), Part 1 of 2

The Call of Cosmic Evolution: Excerpts from “Leaves of Morya’s Garden” by Spiritual Messengers Nicholas and Helena Roerich (vegetarians), Part 1 of 2

The esteemed mystical and philosophical writers Nicholas Roerich and his wife Helena Roerich are two of the most influential spiritual thought leaders from Russia. They are recognized for founding a doctrine called Agni Yoga, also known as Living Ethics. Traveling extensively throughout Asia to deepen their spiritual studies, the Roerichs eventually met their Master in Darjeeling, India. Morya revealed messages of higher wisdom to Nicholas and Helena Roerich, which they recorded on paper and later gathered into a series of texts. One of these is the two-volume book titled “Leaves of Morya’s Garden.” “By holiness in life, guard the precious Gem of Gems. Aum Tat Sat Aum! (‘The Supreme Absolute Truth’ or ‘All that is’) I am thou, thou art I—parts of the Divine Self. I invoke blessings unto you. Salvation will be yours! Life nourishes the soul. Strive for the life glorified, and for the realization of purity. Put aside all prejudices—think freely.”
