Selections from the Holy Text of Tibetan Buddhism: Sixty Songs of Milarepa (vegetarian) – Songs 2-4, 6, 14-15, 51-52, Part 1 of 2

Selections from the Holy Text of Tibetan Buddhism: Sixty Songs of Milarepa (vegetarian) – Songs 2-4, 6, 14-15, 51-52, Part 1 of 2

One of the renowned Masters of this religion is Jetsun Milarepa, meaning Milarepa the Revered One. A former magician who became a yogi, poet, and hermit, this spiritual hero of Tibet lived from 1052 to 1135, and His story of personal redemption has inspired lives across many generations. Through songs called dohas, Jetsun Milarepa imparted Divine teachings on spiritual devotion and wisdom. Supreme Master Ching Hai has spoken about the venerated Milarepa on several occasions, as during this lecture given in 1992 at the Hsihu Ashram in Taiwan, also known as Formosa. “Milarepa, His faith in seeking the Truth was very firm. He was terrified of hell and knew that His karma was unimaginable. So no matter how much His Master scolded Him, He endured it. His faith was from inside. He wasn't taught to do so. No one taught Him to do so and no one forced Him. From the hardships that He underwent, we can see why He was able to attain the Truth.” Today, we present to you an excerpt from the holy text of Tibetan Buddhism titled, “Sixty Songs of Milarepa (vegetarian).” “On His way to Shri Ri to meditate, Milarepa lodged at an inn where a merchant, Dhawa Norbu (the Moon jewel), was also staying with a great retinue. Milarepa begged alms from him, upon which the merchant remarked that it would be better for him to work to support himself. Milarepa pointed out that enjoying pleasures now is the source for more suffering in the future. Then He said: ‘Now listen to my song.’ ‘Castles and crowded cities are the places Where now you love to stay; But remember that they will fall to ruins After you have departed from this Earth! Pride and vain glory are the lure Which now you love to follow; But remember, when you are about to die, They offer you no shelter and no refuge! Kinsmen and relatives are the people now With whom you love to live; But remember that you must leave them all behind, When from this world you pass away! Servants, wealth and children Are things you love to hold; But remember, at the time of your death, Your empty hands can take nothing with you! Vigor and health Are dearest to you now; But remember, at the moment of your death, Your corpse will be bundled up and borne away! Now your organs are clear, Your flesh and blood are strong and vigorous; But remember, at the moment of your death, They will no longer be at your disposal! Sweet and delicious foods are things That now you love to eat; But remember, at the moment of your death, Your mouth will let the spittle flow! When of all this I think, I cannot help but seek the Buddha’s Teachings! The enjoyments and the pleasures of this world, For me, have no attraction. I, Milarepa, sing of the Eight Reminders, At the Guest House in Garakhache of Tsang. With these clear words I give this helpful warning; I urge you to observe and practise them!’”

Selections from “The World’s Advance Thought” – a Periodical by Lucy A. Mallory (vegetarian): The New Dispensation, Part 2 of 2

“Whatever distracts the attention of men from respect and kindness to any form of life; whatever causes them to ignorantly maltreat and despise any form of life; what causes them to praise and glorify a God of Mystery, while ignoring the actual, living, breathing God of Life in all and through all that is and lives, is a detriment to the progress and unfoldment of humanity in the realization of Infinite Intelligence, Infinite Love, Infinite Wisdom and Infinite Harmony.” “Conscious life should be the fragrance of Love and the beauty of Wisdom. Life thus realized begems the pathway of man with the never-dying blossoms of Peace, Happiness, Health, Joy and Prosperity.” “Not with sound of many thunders, Not with miracles and wonders, Would I herald forth my coming from the peaceful Spirit-Shore; But in God’s own Love descending, With your aspirations blending, I would teach you of the future, that you watch and weep no more. God is God from the creation; Truth alone is man’s salvation: But the God that now you worship soon shall be your God no more; For the soul in its unfolding Evermore its thought remoulding, Learns more truly, in its progress how to love and to adore. Evil is of Good twin brother, Born of God, and of none other: And though Truth seems slain of error, through the ills that men deplore, Yet still nearer to Perfection, She shall know a Resurrection, Passing on from ceaseless Glory, unto Glory evermore!” “Ask, and you shall receive. Heaven and hell are both home-made. Heaven is materialized Happiness— What is Love? Yourself is the eternal problem you are solving. Be diligent in Good-Doing, Be absent when ill manifests. The worst mixed problem will work itself out right in time. If you think the Good, some Good will always be in waiting for you. The one who makes the best of all difficulties, gets the best time. Peace of mind keeps us in touch with the Holy Angels of the Lord. All the Good and evil in the world is summed up in the words, Love and hate.” “Make your life a constant benediction to all, for if you don’t— this is the reason why life to you is a curse, instead of blessings. Listen for the Voice from the Silence and you will need no other adviser, and your way will be through pleasant places; the Lord will bless you!”

Perek Shira - Singing Praises to the Creator: From “In Front of the Blind” by the Reverend Rabbi Asa Keisar (vegan), Part 1 of 2

Perek Shira - Singing Praises to the Creator: From “In Front of the Blind” by the Reverend Rabbi Asa Keisar (vegan), Part 1 of 2

The Reverend Rabbi Asa Keisar, a Shining World Hero Award Recipient, is an Israeli religious scholar who’s on a mission to spread veganism all across Israel and the world. Strong in his dedication and compassion for all God’s creatures, the Reverend Rabbi Asa Keisar is a frequent lecturer at universities, elementary and high schools, and yeshivot (Jewish educational religious institutions) throughout Israel. His speeches feature statements from the Holy Torah about the incorrectness of consuming animal products, especially in our modern world. The Reverend Rabbi Keisar is also the author of an important Jewish guide, “In Front of the Blind,” or “Velifnei Iver Hashalem.” The book is a collection of excerpts from the Torah, the prophets, the Mishneh Torah, the Talmud, as well as from the Gaonim, Rishonim, and Achronim, which include Jewish spiritual leaders and religious legal scholars from the past and present. Through straightforward holy laws, the selection clearly shows how humans must treat all animals, namely with care and mercy. There is a widespread ancient Jewish text entitled, “Perek Shira” (Chapter of Song), a compilation of praises to God, sung by the Heavens and by His creatures, as the animals, from which the Jewish scholar is sharing some worth-mentioning lines. We will now read from the Reverend Rabbi Keisar’s book, “In Front of the Blind,” the chapter called “The Purpose of Animals.” “The Rooster says: ‘When the Holy One, blessed be He, comes to the righteous in the Garden of Eden, all the trees of the Garden of Eden exude their fragrance, and they rejoice and praise, and then He arouses and praises.’” “The Hen says: ‘He gives bread to all flesh, for His loving kindness endures forever.’” “The Pigeon says before The Holy One, blessed be He: ‘Master of the World, may my sustenance be as bitter as an olive in Your hands, rather than being sweet as honey in the hands of flesh and blood.’” “The Crane says: ‘Give thanks to Hashem with the lyre; play for Him with the ten-stringed harp.’” “The Bird says: ‘A Bird has also found her home and the sparrow a nest for herself where she placed her young; Your altars, Hashem of Hosts – my King and my God.’” “The Swallow says: ‘So that my soul shall sing Your honor and shall not be silent, Hashem my God – I shall forever thank you.’” “The Swift says: ‘My help is from Hashem, Maker of Heaven and Earth.’” “The Petrel says: ‘Light is sown for the righteous, joy for the straight-of-heart.’” “The Bat says: ‘Be comforted, My people, be comforted,’ says your God.”

True Monk: Selections from Jainism's Holy Sutrakritanga Sutra, Book II, Lecture 1 – The Lotus, Part 2 of 2

“A monk who does not act, nor kill, who is free from wrath, pride, deceit, and greed, who is calm and happy, should not entertain the following wish: May I, after my departure from this world, by dint of my intellect, knowledge, memory, learning, or of the performance of austerities, religious duties, chastity, or of this habit to eat no more than is necessary to sustain life, become a god at whose command are all objects of pleasure, or a perfected saint who is exempt from pain and misery. (Through his austerities) he may obtain his object, or he may not obtain it. A monk should not be infatuated with sounds, colors, smells, tastes, and feelings of touch; he should abstain from wrath, pride, deceit, and greed, from love, hate, quarrel, calumny, reviling of others, aversion to control and delight in sensual things, deceit and untruth, and the sin of wrong belief. In this way a monk ceases to acquire gross karma, controls himself, and abstains from sins. He does not kill movable or immovable beings, nor has them killed by another person, nor does he consent to another’s killing them. In this way a monk ceases to acquire gross karma, controls himself, and abstains from sins. He does not acquire sentient or senseless objects of pleasure, nor has them acquired by another person, nor does he consent to another’s acquiring them.” “A monk who knows the proper measure in all things travelling in one direction or other, should teach, explain, and praise the Law (spiritual precepts), preach it unto those who exert themselves well, and to those who do not, to all who come to listen. He should preach to them indifference for the peace of mind, cessation of passion, Nirvana, purity, simplicity, humility, freedom from bonds. He should preach the Law which prohibits to kill any living being, after having well considered it. When a monk preaches the Law (spiritual precepts), he should preach it not for the sake of food, drink, clothes, resting-place, or lodging, nor for any objects of pleasure; but he should preach the Law indefatigably, for no other motive than the annihilation of karma. Those heroes of faith who are instructed in the Law (spiritual precepts), by such a monk and exert themselves well, are possessed of all virtues, abstain from all sins, cease from all passions, conduct themselves well in every way, and reach final beatitude.”

“The Spiritual and Karmic Aspects of the Vegetarian Diet” by Sant Kirpal Singh and Baba Sawan Singh (vegetarians), Part 2 of 2

00:16:57

“The Spiritual and Karmic Aspects of the Vegetarian Diet” by Sant Kirpal Singh and Baba Sawan Singh (vegetarians), Part 2 of 2

We will now continue with the reading from Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj and His beloved Master Baba Sawan Singh Ji’s book entitled, “The Spiritual and Karmic Aspects of the Vegetarian Diet.” “We have all been created by God. All of us are embodied souls. Soul is of the same essence as that of God, and God is in all of us; and we should, therefore, love one another. That is what Saint Paul taught all his life.” “If one is keen for God-realization, then one must not hurt anyone’s feelings, for heart is the seat of God. Have you ever realized that a mango seed, when embedded, gathers all the sweetness from the soil, while a pepper seed attracts all the bitterness in it? As a man thinketh, so he becomes. Nothing is good or bad in the world, but our thinking makes it so. We, like the one or the other of the seeds, draw upon impulses from the atmosphere, as suits our own mental make-up.”“A Godly person is possessed with a right mind and a right heart. He has both within and without a perfect spring of peace. His dealings are fair, open, and unquestionable. Truth springs from the very bottom of his heart. The audience is spellbound and gets a feeling of comfort by hearing him, as his utterances are drenched from the cooling effect of the loving and chaste thoughts within him, and everyone feels satisfied.”“All other Saints have said this thing in the same strain: 1. Love thy neighbor as thyself. 2. Do unto others as you would wish them to do unto you.” “The whole of the religious philosophy hangs by these two cardinal principles. If one puts before him these two golden rules, his life will surely be transformed. The person who has no element of sympathy in his heart and a human touch, is not fit to be called even a man, and he cannot know God. He who treats his enemies lovingly will disarm them in no time. Insofar as you can, try to do no injury to anyone. Be good to all and you will be at peace with yourself and be a radiating center of loving grace around you. The prayers of others, to whom you may have done good, will help you. The good thoughts of others will swarm around you with a benediction. The very idea of doing good will first affect you and will draw all good vibrations from the surrounding atmosphere.”

True Monk: Selections from Jainism's Holy Sutrakritanga Sutra, Book II, Lecture 1 – The Lotus, Part 1 of 2

One of the oldest religions in the world is Jainism, traditionally known as Jain Dharma. Originating from ancient India, this philosophy centers around concepts such as right perception, right knowledge, and right conduct in the attainment of moksha, or realization of the soul’s true nature. Lord Mahavira, who is considered to be the last Tirthankara, was born around the 5-6th century BC,

Distributing God’s Wisdom: From the Book of the Secrets of Enoch (vegetarian), Part 1 of 2

00:16:03

Distributing God’s Wisdom: From the Book of the Secrets of Enoch (vegetarian), Part 1 of 2

The Book of the Secrets of Enoch, also known as the Second Book of Enoch, or Old Bulgarian Enoch, is an ancient religious text, which describes the intensity of the Antediluvian (pre-Flood) time period. Enoch was a venerated patriarch and great-grandfather of Noah. After his son, Methuselah, was born, Enoch began to “walk with God” – that is, he began to seek, to know, to serve, and to pray to God, and he continued this for the next 300 years! Throughout his life, he visited Heaven in his visions and dreams. At the age of 365, Enoch disappeared, “because God took him away” straight to Heaven, for he was pleasing to God. The Book of Enoch contains unique material on why the Great Flood was morally necessary, why some angels fell from Heaven, and prophetic revelations of the thousand-year reign of the Messiah. But the main message is one of hope, that God will be the guiding Light for those who are righteous. Today, as we go through chapters 31 to 39 from “The Book of the Secrets of Enoch,” we will read about God appointing Enoch to go down to Earth and share his handwritten books on everything he has witnessed and learned while on his journey in Heaven. “And now, Enoch, all that I have told you, all that you have understood, all that you have seen of Heavenly things, all that you have seen on Earth, and all that I have written in books by my great wisdom, all these things I have devised and created from the uppermost foundation to the lower and to the end, and there is no counsellor nor inheritor to my creations. I am self-eternal, not made with hands, and without change.” “They have rejected my commandments and my yoke, worthless seed has come up, not fearing God, and they would not bow down to me, but have begun to bow down to vain gods, and denied my unity, and have laden the whole Earth with untruths, offences, abominable lustfulness, namely one with another, and all manner of other unclean wickedness, which are disgusting to relate. And therefore, I will bring down a deluge upon the Earth and will destroy all men, and the whole Earth will crumble together into great darkness.”

Distributing God’s Wisdom: From the Book of the Secrets of Enoch (vegetarian), Part 2 of 2

We now continue with chapters 40 to 48 in “The Book of the Secrets of Enoch,” depicting Enoch being sent by God back to Earth, in order to distribute his knowledge-rich handwritings through his children, teaching them of the immeasurable greatness of the one and only Father. “The Lord with His hands having created man, in the likeness of His own face, the Lord made Him small and great. Whoever reviles the Ruler’s face, and abhors the Lord’s face, has despised the Lord’s face, and he who vents anger on any man without injury, the Lord’s great anger will cut him down, he who spits on the face of man reproachfully, will be cut down at the Lord’s great judgment. Blessed is the man who does not direct his heart with malice against any man, and helps the injured and condemned, and raises the broken down, and shall do charity to the needy, because on the day of the great judgment, every weight, every measure and every makeweight (will be) as in the market, that is to say (they are) hung on scales and stand in the market, (and every one) shall learn his own measure, and according to his measure shall take his reward.” “The Lord has placed the foundations in the unknown, and has spread forth Heavens visible (physical) and invisible (spiritual); He fixed the Earth on the waters, and created countless creatures, and who has counted the water and the foundation of the unfixed, or the dust of the earth, or the sand of the sea, or the drops of the rain, or the morning dew, or the wind’s breathings? Who has filled earth and sea, and the indissoluble winter? I cut the stars out of fire, and decorated Heaven, and put it in their midst.” “From the invisible (spiritual) He made all things visible (physical), Himself being invisible (spiritual). Thus I make known to you, my children, and distribute the books to your children, into all your generations, and amongst the nations who shall have the sense to fear God, let them receive them, and may they come to love them more than any food or Earthly sweets, and read them and apply themselves to them. And those who understand not the Lord, who fear not God, who accept not, but reject, who do not receive the (books), a terrible judgment awaits these. Blessed is the man who shall bear their yoke and shall drag them along, for he shall be released on the day of the Great Judgment.”

The Soul and the Substance of Existence: Selections from “The Perfect Way or The Finding of Christ” by Dr. Anna Kingsford (vegetarian), Part 2 of 3

00:10:26

The Soul and the Substance of Existence: Selections from “The Perfect Way or The Finding of Christ” by Dr. Anna Kingsford (vegetarian), Part 2 of 3

“The soul is not astral fluid, but is manifest by astral fluid. For the soul itself is, like the idea, invisible and intangible. This may be best seen by following out the genesis of any particular action. For instance, the stroke of the pen on paper is the phenomenon, that is, the outer body. The action which produces the stroke, is the astral body; and, though physical, it is not a thing, but a transition or medium between the result and its cause, — between, that is, the stroke and the idea. The idea, manifested in the act, is not physical, but mental, and is the soul of the act. But even this is not the first cause. For the idea is put forth by the will, and this is the spirit. Thus, we will an idea, as God wills the Macrocosm. The potential body, its immediate result, is the astral body; and the phenomenal body, or ultimate form, is the effect of motion and heat. If we could arrest motion, we should have as the result, fire. But fire itself also is material, since, like the earth or body, it is visible to the outer sense. It has, however, many degrees of subtlety. The astral, or odic, substance, therefore, is not the soul itself, but is the medium or manifestor of the soul, as the act is of the idea.”“Material body, astral fluid or sidereal body, soul, and spirit, all these are one in their essence. And the first three are differentialities of polarisation. The fourth is God's Self. When the Gods, — the Elohim or Powers of the Hebrews, — put forth the world, they put forth substance with its three potentialities, but all in the condition of ‘odic’ light. This substantial light is called sometimes the sidereal or astral body, sometimes the perisoul, and this because it is both. It is that which makes, and that which becomes. It is fire, or the anima bruta (as distinguished from the Divine), out of and by means of which body and soul are generated. It is the fiery manifestation of the soul, the magnetic factor of the body. It is space, it is substance, it is foundation; so that from it proceed the gases and the minerals, which are un-individualised, and from it also the organic world which is individualised. But man it could not make; for man is fourfold, and of the divine ether, the province assigned by the Greeks to Zeus, the father of Gods and men.”

Today, we will continue our reading of the Reverend Rabbi Keisar’s book “In Front of the Blind,” an excerpt from chapter “The Purpose of Animals.” “The Whale says: ‘Give thanks to Hashem (God) for He is good, His kindness endures forever.’ The Fish say: ‘The voice of Hashem is upon the waters, The God of glory thunders; Hashem is upon a multitude of waters.’” “The Sheep and Goats say: ‘Who is like You among the mighty ones, Hashem, who is like You, adorned in holiness, awesome in praise, worker of wonders!’” “The Cattle say: ‘Rejoice unto God, our strength, applaud the God of Jacob!’ The Swine say: ‘Hashem is good to the upright and the straight of heart.’” “The Camel says: ‘Hashem roars from upon high and sounds His voice from His holy Abode, and roars His agony about His Temple.’” “The Horse says: ‘Behold, as the eyes of the servants to their master’s hand, as the eyes of a maid to her mistress’s hand, so are our eyes to Hashem our God until He will favor us.’” “The Donkey says: ‘To You, Hashem, is the greatness and the might and the triumph and the glory for everything in Heaven and Earth is Yours; To You, Hashem, is the monarchy and the sovereignty over every leader.’” “In the book of Kings 2 it tells how the army of Sennacherib surrounded Jerusalem in the days of King Hezekiah. 180,000 of Sennacherib’s soldiers died when they came to fight against the nation of Israel and that which caused their death was the song of animals. As it is said, Rabbi Yitzchak Nafcha says: ‘He revealed ears for them and they hear the songs from the mouths of the creatures and they died.’” “Radak: ‘This refers to Isaiah’s prophecy ‘And a wolf shall live with a lamb,’ and that is discussed there.’” “‘And a wolf shall live with a lamb, and a leopard shall lie with a kid; and a calf and a lion cub and a fatling [shall lie] together, and a small child shall lead them. And a cow and a bear shall graze together, their children shall lie; and a lion, like cattle, shall eat straw. And an infant shall play over the hole of an old snake and over the eyeball of an adder, a weaned child shall stretch forth his hand. They shall neither harm nor destroy on all My holy mount, for the land shall be full of knowledge of the Lord as water covers the seabed.’”
