Let’s now enjoy their cooking demonstration. The finale of the jackfruit and taco. Here we go. We’re going to turn it on. We’re going to start by taking a can of jackfruit. And then we’re going to throw in 32 ounces (950 milliliters) of vegetable broth. Turn your pot on high. And then we’re going to add in two tomatoes, chopped, and also one jalapeño, one serrano pepper. And then a pinch of salt. And then we have two tablespoons of paprika. And then we’re going to add three tablespoons of Bragg’s Coconut Aminos, organic, of course. This is a South African smoke blend. And then a chili-lime seasoning blend. You guys can season together. Double time! You’re going to fill your taco with your jackfruit mixture. May we have some slaw? And then you're going to drizzle your (vegan) cheese sauce. Like that. There’s your taco.

I introduced myself to veganism, and have been completely vegan about six years. The plant-rich diet is the best way to counteract the damaging effects of training. Costa Rican Vegan Power Athlete member, Sebastián Fernandez Mora shares his experience with us. “The diet has definitely helped me a lot with recovery, it has been wonderful.” Vegan Power Athlete member and personal trainer, José Ricardo has also experienced the same incredible recovery and mental charity on a 100% plant-based diet.

Welcoming us today with a broad smile is Loving Hut Ram Intra’s friendly owner, Theansin Jintana, who opened the outlet in 2012 in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. “A vegan restaurant not only helps people to enjoy delicious food, but there is no killing of animals.” Aulacese (Vietnamese) dishes are a treat for both the eyes and the palate! So, be ready for a moveable feast - Aulacese (Vietnamese) style - at one of the eleven loving Huts in Âu Lạc (Vietnam). We are at the internationally acclaimed loving Hut Hoa Dang, in Âu Lạc’s largest city. The owner opened the vegan outlet in 2006. Judging from the “Best Vegan Restaurant in the World” award that Loving Hut Hoa Dang received from PETA in 2014. On that note, I’m excited because we are heading northeast to the “City of Gastronomy,” Hong kong! In Indonesia home to one of the most diverse, vibrant, and colorful cuisines in the world. At Loving Hut Jatinegara, Jakarta, such culinary fusion is evident in its dishes. In 2016, another attractive Loving Hut with a large menu, Loving Hut Wajir, opened in Indonesia in Medan, North Sumatra. If you happen to be in Indonesia looking for some wholesome, guilt-free food, you’ll be happy to know that there are 13 other Loving Huts dotting this thousand-island nation! There are four Loving Huts in Malaysia. Loving Hut Puchong opened its doors in 2009, under the leadership of Aaron and Tracy Wong, a dynamic husband-and-wife team. “We run a training program. And we share with our participants the benefits of eating vegan food. Because of compassionate reason. And also, for the environment. And on top of that, by taking the healthy vegan food during the training, they feel energetic.”

And nowadays, the switch to a vegan diet is very easy. There are more and more (vegan) products, in restaurants, everywhere you go. It is possible to eat vegan. The second tip I can give, is that you can look up recipes on the internet, so you can convert your family’s favorite recipes into vegan dishes.”

Celebrating Japan’s Veg Heroes : Vegetarian Awards - Japan

The Japan Vegetarian Awards (JVA) began in 2016, with the aim to praise individuals as well as groups and companies who have been actively working for promoting, developing, and innovating vegetarianism in Japan. In 2016, Mr. Atsuto Ono, CEO of Somenoya Tofu Company received the award for his efforts to bring Meat Free Monday into the Japanese society, including numerous government offices. At the third JVA in 2018, Loving Hut Japan in Tokyo received one of the awards for the Café Restaurant category. Mr. Keiji Kidokoro, recipient of JVA Artist Award 2017, is a world champion chainsaw wood sculptor. The Vegetarian Awards are also levering the power of social media to more deeply impact a wide range of sectors of society. The 2019 winner of the Public Figure Award is an exemplar of such social influence. The recipients of The Vegetarian Awards who will be honored are not limited to only Japanese people living in Japan. 2019 saw a couple of foreigners receiving the awards.

I am very happy today to bring you a number of highlights from 2019! 2019 has been another great year, marked by headlines trumpeting the vegan lifestyle. We have seen amazing movements in the vegan food industry, with Beyond Meat and Impossible Burger both reaching sales beyond expectations through the big fast-food chains like McDonalds, and Burger King who are rolling out vegan burgers in every one of the 7,300 outlets in the USA. It’s been an amazing year so far, with so many exciting, positive things and kind actions and awareness happening around the world! Greta Thunberg is a dedicated young environmentalist, who is petitioning the politicians around the globe to immediately address climate change through her “Skolstrejk for Klimatet,” (School Strike for Climate) a movement that has gained worldwide momentum on this urgent matter. So I hope you take heart. Remember to be vegan, and help all your friends and family do the same.

That is why for the first target during its two-week-long October Rebellion event in October 2019, Animal Rebellion chose UK’s oldest and largest meat market, London’s Smithfield Meat Market. The second place it demonstrated at was the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). It asked the government to end subsidies for the livestock and fish industries, to encourage farmers to switch to growing crops, and to help them with the transition. “Please, we ask you, consider the world you want to leave behind for your children. We hope you’ll join us in this fight for peace, freedom, and a better, brighter future.”

I became vegan because I didn’t want to live at the expense of any animals. I was so happy when Loving Hut Songchon opened in the nearby area. 'Bean Sprouts Bibimbap' is my favorite here. It’s full of vegetables, so deliciously cooked." Bibimbap is a traditional Korean dish, a rice bowl topped with various vegetables and chili paste. Loving Hut Well-being Songchon makes bibimbap with organic brown rice topped with vegetables and served with a side dish - Korean-style vegan BBQ beef, also known as Soy Bulgogi. Animal Rebellion was established in June 2019 by eighteen leading social justice groups in the UK, broadly known as the Rebellion Alliance. Both groups, Animal Rebellion and Extinction Rebellion, plead with the government to declare climate change as an emergency, to act with urgency to slash emissions to “net-zero” by 2025, and to set up a citizens’ assembly with legislative power. "Animal Rebellion’s goal is a world where all animals, all beings are free from exploitation and oppression.… We all need a stable climate to survive. And Animal agriculture is the leading cause. …So, the only way we can address the climate emergency is by first addressing the animal emergency, and the strategy that we’ll be using will be non-violent direct-action civil disobedience. When we do these actions, we really force the public to listen, and to hear this narrative that we are telling."

Korean Specialties from Loving Hut Songchon, Part 1 of 2 – Perilla Seed Noodle Soup and Cold Bean Soup with Rice Noodles (INT)

Today, we are going to visit Loving Hut Well-being Songchon located in Songchon-dong, north of Daejeon. This cozy and neat Loving Hut was opened ten years ago by Chef Shon Sang-young. As the name “Well-being” suggests, the restaurant seeks to provide customers with a healthy menu using carefully selected ingredients. Every dish in the Loving Hut uses purified clean water. We use Andean salt that is free from heavy metals and fine plastics, and specially-made bamboo salt. And raw sugar instead of refined sugar is used. I make my own sunflower seed oil, such as sesame oil and perilla oil. I also make soybean paste, soy sauce, and red pepper paste twice a year with carefully selected beans and salt. Now, Chef Shon will demonstrate two popular dishes served at Loving Hut Well-being Songchon, Perilla Seed Noodle Soup, and Cold Bean Soup with Rice Noodles.
