Nations Declare Climate Change as a Global Emergency Part 1 of 3: Interview with Dr. Peter Carter

On today’s program, we’ll hear from Dr. Peter Carter, a physician and highly respected climate change expert and speaker. I call climate change “the crime of all time.” It’s hurting everything. It’s hurting people everywhere. Climate change is not a thing in the future anymore, It’s here right now. it’s harming and killing and dispossessing people all over the world. The best one to improve their health and the health of the planet and allow the planet to survive and future generations have a future, the most rapidly acting one would be to change your diet and go on to a vegan diet.

Climate Crisis: Our Oceans are Rising, Part 1 of 2

Climate Crisis: Our Oceans are Rising, Part 1 of 2

In this series we will learn about the effects of the climate change crisis on our oceans, how this affects our world today and what we can do to reverse the damaging impacts. For the past 50 years, the ocean has been absorbing 90% of all the heat generated by global warming. Unfortunately, with the ever-increasing concentration of greenhouse gases, global temperatures have continued to rise, and much of the excess heat is being trapped in the upper levels of the ocean. This is causing the water to become warmer, and to expand, therefore leading to a consistent rise in sea levels. However, the sea level doesn’t only rise due to the expansion of sea water. It also rises as a result of water runoff from the melting of ice sheets and glaciers at both the North and South Poles. The melting of Antarctica’s ice sheet is currently responsible for almost 25% of global sea level rise. If it were to melt completely, it could raise sea levels by as much as 58.3 meters! This is what makes Antarctica the most critical indicator of how quickly our oceans will rise over the coming decades and centuries. However, the effect of this less-than-one-cm increase each year has had a disastrous effect on our world’s low-lying coastal habitats. The esteemed climate scientist, Professor Andrew Shepherd, from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom stated, “As a rule of thumb, for every centimeter rise in global sea level, another 6 million people are exposed to coastal flooding around the planet.”

Heavenly Messenger: How One Small Siberian Crane Transformed Taiwan (Formosa), Part 4 of 4

Due to global warming and climate change, the water level gets too high or too low in the habitat, so the White Cranes can’t find enough eelgrass to eat. Then they move out of their habitat center to look for food, causing conflict between humans and the cranes. This might be the reason their appearance has been newly recorded in the last two years in Japan, Taiwan (Formosa), and Hong Kong. In Spring, the cranes start to fly to the north, leaving Poyang Lake as their winter habitat and flying for 2,000 km towards the northeast to Momege Nature Reserve in Jilin Province of Northeast China.

Fires Around the World and the Key to their Prevention, Part 1 of 3

Fires Around the World and the Key to their Prevention, Part 1 of 3

In January 2020, hundreds of deadly wildfires raged throughout Australia. The most heartbreaking tragedy resulting from the fires in Australia was the loss of wildlife. One of the most heartbreaking cases of devastation occurred on Kangaroo Island. In addition to wildlife, livestock animals were also affected. Another result of the fires was air pollution. The damage in Australia affected the entire world. In addition to the smoke, the fires produced massive amounts of carbon emissions which, in turn, accelerate climate change. Research shows that the primary cause of climate change is the raising of livestock animals, which contributes more to global warming than all forms of transportation combined. Scientists report that the livestock animals raising industry causes as much as 51% of all global greenhouse gas emissions. Thus, many recommend that the most effective way to stop global warming is through widespread adoption of the vegan lifestyle. Supreme Master Ching Hai has frequently spoken about this as the quickest way to stop future climate-related disasters.

IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land – Heralding a Plant-Powered Global Food System, Part 2 of 2

IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Land – Heralding a Plant-Powered Global Food System, Part 2 of 2

In view of such daunting challenges, the IPCC Climate Change and Land Special Report could represent our last hope for a sustainable future. It is also a solution that can be carried out on both the individual and the governing front. The first of these themes involves the preservation of our world’s forests, as well as other land-based carbon-absorbing “sinks,” such as wetlands and grasslands. The second theme focuses on putting an end to our grossly inefficient food system. The Report concludes that transitioning to a plant-strong diet can free up hundreds of millions of acres of land, which will help to curb deforestation and climate change. Upon hearing of the IPCC Special Report’s suggestion for the world to transition to a plant-strong diet, our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai was overcome with joy. “We had good news: the United Nations and all the countries in the world signed the less meat protocol. So it’s becoming official now. I hope they just go forward. Become meatless. Not less meat, but meatless. No meat at all. That’s why I came to celebrate with you.”

Singapore’s Earth Fest: An Eco message for a Sustainable Planet

Singapore’s EarthFest is an annual festival whose mission is to encourage people to chose more sustainable daily living habits, including a plant-based lifestyle, zero waste living, minimalism, and a greater connection with nature. The festival has been organized by the founder Mr. Micheal Broadhead and a group of volunteers. Mr. Broadhead believes the adoption of a plant-based lifestyle is the most powerful way for “going green” and protecting our environment, every major environmental problem we have now is very deeply connected to how people are eating and very deeply connected to animal agriculture because of its inefficiencies.

Nations Declare Climate Change as a Global Emergency Part 3 of 3: Interview with Ms. Polly Higgins

On today’s program, Ms. Higgins explains why additional laws need to be enacted to address the urgent issue of climate change. Ms. Higgins has a special message for governments and corporations. We each carry a duty of care for ourselves, for our families, for our communities, but also, we do actually have a duty of care, a moral duty of care that extends to our Earth. Our Earth is ultimately our universal home. And that moral duty of care can be translated into law. Scientists have concluded that raising livestock is one of the most significant contributors to global warming.

Melati and Isabel Wijsen: Making Bali Plastic Bag Free

In 2013 the sisters Melati and Isabel Wijsen, aged 12 and 10, started the Bye Bye Plastic Bags movement to minimize plastic waste on Bali and around the world. After gathering volunteer teams from schools all over the island, they started signature petitions, offered educational presentations at schools, met with people at markets and festivals, and organized beach clean-ups to raise awareness, and distributed reusable bags. This is our vision. We want Bali to be a free-of-plastic-bags island. We can do it, definitely. Yes!

There are a lot of people who say, “I’d love to try that, too.” It’s not as difficult as it looks. You have to start the whole thing slowly and with a sense of what is appropriate. We also do small courses here. That is, everyone who is interested is invited at any time and can learn how to grow vegetables efficiently here. To extend the season for growing vegetables, Mr. Butolen has constructed a homemade greenhouse.

Heavenly Messenger: How One Small Siberian Crane Transformed Taiwan (Formosa), Part 3 of 4

When I look back at this story again today, I realize it's not just about the little crane's amazing journey, but about mine as well. It was a turning point in my life. Because of this little crane, I had the chance to see through his eyes. I went to his habitat, the place to spend the winter, and the place where he was born. I visited Siberia, Poyang Lake, and Momoge. I learned about the harsh environment of his habitat. It's very difficult.

Extreme Weather Events: Droughts Around the World, Part 3 of 3

Extreme Weather Events: Droughts Around the World, Part 3 of 3

Today we’ll explore more about drought-induced conditions, this time in Asia and Australia. More than 66 million Southeast Asians have had their lives disrupted by drought in the past three decades. Severe drought and the construction of dams have driven the Mekong River to its lowest level in 100 years, endangering food supplies for tens of millions of people. In East Asia, a severe drought is plaguing east China's Anhui Province, leaving crops damaged and drinking water supplies disrupted in some of the hardest-hit regions, according to local authorities. A total of 45 cities and counties have been ravaged, with regions in three cities along the Yangtze River suffering from the worst drought in up to 50 years. In the past three decades, Mongolia has also been experiencing extreme droughts and water shortages due to the increased numbers of livestock animals being raised, and approximately 72% of the land has become severely degraded and overgrazed. In South Asia, a report by India’s government found that 600 million Indians -- nearly half the country’s population - are facing acute water shortages. Worst hit is the semi-arid region of Marathwada, infamous for the exceedingly high number of farmer suicides in Maharashtra. Large parts of Australia are currently experiencing the most severe drought on record. Farmers in Australia are already struggling with the drought, which has left entire towns without water, and the effects are now spreading to major population centers such as Sydney, where its five million residents were recently subjected to level-two water restrictions, which regulate garden watering, hosing of hard surfaces, and car washing. Supreme Master Ching Hai kindly shared the best way to stop global warming, the cause of extreme drought conditions around the globe, and thus save our planet, our Loving Home. “We still can rescue our home, planet home. Number one solution is vegan, organic vegan. Veganism will save our world. One of the most effective and fastest ways to reduce the heat in the atmosphere is to eliminate methane production. Methane not only traps up to 72 times more heat than carbon, it also goes away from the atmosphere much faster than CO2. So, if we stop producing methane, the atmosphere will cool more quickly than if we stop producing carbon dioxide. See what I mean? Organic vegan will produce beneficial cooling effect as it will cut down methane and other greenhouse gases which are fatal to our survival.”

Save Our Amazon Rainforest: Be Vegan

00:16:04

Save Our Amazon Rainforest: Be Vegan

Where we’ll learn about why areas of the Amazon basin in Brazil have been burning at an unprecedented rate, and how we can help stop it on an individual level. Earth’s largest tropical rainforest, the Amazon plays an important role in stabilizing the planet’s climate by slowing down the pace of global warming. Unfortunately, however, severe wildfires are currently spreading across this precious region due to the clearing of land for cattle ranching. According to the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, cattle ranching is the single greatest driver of Amazon deforestation, accounting for approximately 80% of the total. The way to solve the deforestation crisis and save the planet is simple: end meat consumption. Stopping meat consumption is a crucial action to take in order to save planet Earth.

Conservation Agriculture - Growing into a Brighter Future: Interview with Dr. Amir Kassam, Part 1 of 2 (INT)

No soil erosion should be taking place. And now we can achieve that with conservation agriculture, the new paradigm of agriculture about which farmers are beginning to learn and are adopting more and more, which is a no-till agriculture. It is farming which basically emulates as closely as possible what happens in the natural world, how nature takes care of the land. In nature there is no plowing. In nature soil health is being looked after through biomass, a return of biomass. And also, the third aspect of conservation agriculture is diversification.

Ocean Warming: A Call to End the Climate Crisis, Part 3 of 3

On today’s program we’ll explore how ocean warming is also contributing to extreme weather events. Warmer waters in both the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean have spawned some of the strongest storms on the planet. The warmer the water, the more chaotic and extreme the weather event will be. Supreme Master Ching Hai also told this in the conference, which took place in Orizaba on November 16, 200

00:16:01

Fires Around the World and the Key to their Prevention, Part 2 of 3

On today’s episode we’ll travel to California, USA and Europe. In 2017 and 2018, Californians suffered through the deadliest and most destructive wildfires in recorded history. The smoke they produced caused high levels of pollution and extremely unhealthy air for millions of citizens. Countless wild animals lost their forest homes. The recent California wildfires also had a disastrous side effect: mudslides. Many experts agree that rising global temperatures have the most dangerous impact on forests. And now, the magnificent forests, once a great asset to the EU countries, are seriously threatened, as the tinder-dry woodlands are extremely susceptible to fire. Not only are fires occurring more frequently in Europe, but they are also burning much larger areas than in the past. Many world-renowned climate change experts and scientists report that the primary cause of global warming is the raising of livestock animals, and so the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recommends a widespread shift to a plant-based diet.

Consequences of Global Warming, Part 1 of 2

Our home, the beautiful planet earth, functions like a giant living organism made of many interrelated components. These components are constantly interacting to bring a harmonious balance to earth’s ecosystem, atmosphere, and weather-they function in unison to support all life on the planet. Sadly, planet earth is undergoing drastic changes and rapidly heating up. Greenhouse gas emissions are altering the climate drastically, threatening all life on earth. These emissions, namely carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, trap heat in the atmosphere and cause our planet to get warmer.
