Appreciate What You Have

We are excited to have you join us today on Kids' Wonderland, a new addition to our Supreme Master Television programs this year. It's a place for kids and adults with young hearts to go on adventures, learn new things and have fun together! Now let's jump on a magic carpet and travel to India for story time. Today, we present one of those stories, called "The Monkey and the Peas." "O mighty King, the monkey just showed us what greed can bring us. Instead of appreciating what he already had, he became greedy for a little gain and ended up with nothing." Hearing the wise words of the counsellor, the king vowed to always remember the lesson from the monkey and the peas, and be grateful for everything God has given him. Do you know where oxygen comes from? We all know greenery is important, but in the past 20 years, we’ve lost lots of trees. Do you know why? There are many reasons. If we do not eat animals, we can save lots of trees! Another reason is that we have been using trees to make paper. If we reduce paper use, we can also save trees! To save paper, we can do the 3 Rs: reduce, recycle and reuse.

Ami, Child of the Stars

00:14:39

Ami, Child of the Stars

The book starts off with Peter, a young boy who meets an extraterrestrial, named Ami, on the beach after he sees a spaceship crash into the sea. Ami’s first challenge is to overcome Peter’s belief that aliens are coming to invade Earth. “Other than those already on Earth, impossible. Because crazy people destroy their own civilization before reaching the necessary scientific level to leave their own planet and invade other worlds. And you should definitely make a note of that. Real intelligence goes along with goodness, or it isn’t real intelligence.” “You love whom?” “We love it all; people, nature, animals, life, everything. Those who love can’t harm what they love.” Ami and Peter walk around the town together, while Ami explains many things about the human race, along with life on other planets. He also shares some wisdom with Peter along the way. “Life is here for us to enjoy, Peter. Try to pay attention to all that life brings you. There is magic in every moment, but we hardly notice all these simple things. Try to feel, to perceive, instead of thinking. The most profound meaning of life lies beyond thought.” When Peter checks in at home and sees his dinner, Ami tells him that he doesn’t eat meat, as it is actually eating a dead body. Peter immediately understands and decides to be vegan.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

00:15:11

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Today, we are delighted to introduce to you an outstanding American TV series, Avatar: The Last Airbender. It’s an award-winning animated children’s show which aired on the US TV channel Nickelodeon beginning in February 2005 and lasted three seasons until July 2008. Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, a writer for Forbes magazine called it one of the best shows of all time. It has been released in more than 105 countries, and translated into many languages. The setting of the story occurs in an imagined land where people are divided into four nations based on their affinity with the four natural elements: Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. The central figure is a special 12-year-old boy named Aang, who is a spiritual monk and vegetarian. Born in the Air Nation and being the last survivor of his kind, Aang is the reincarnation of the “Avatar,” the only person who has the ability to control or “bend” all four elements. He is destined to restore peace and balance to the world. Accompanied by his friends and the loyal bison Appa, Aang travelled to many lands with different cultures to fulfill his destiny. Along the way, he studied with many teachers, encounters many trials and tribulations, and grows to understand what it means to be an Avatar. What makes Aang special is that he always tries to seek peaceful solutions to conflicts. Being a vegetarian, he extends love and compassion to all beings, even to the so-called enemies. That is what eventually brings peace to the world. Being an Avatar, he needed to first become master of himself, maintain peace among the four nations and serve as a mediator between the humans and spirits. Combining spiritual teachings with all the cool bending elements and martial arts, Avatar: The Last Airbender is a show you don’t want to miss!

Lesson of the Bell of Atri

00:15:21

Lesson of the Bell of Atri

Hundreds of years ago, the town of Atri was ruled by a good king. Often though, he didn’t feel at ease. ‘I want my people to live happily in peace, and anyone who is treated unfairly should get justice. What can I do?’ Looking for a solution, he ordered his minister to acquire a great bell, and hung it in tower in the middle of the town square. It’s called “The Bell of Justice.” “Whenever any one of you requires it, you can ring it and then one of our judges will hear your case, and provide justice.” Later, the people of Atri suddenly heard the bell sounding loudly. They were very surprised as it had not happened for a long time. When everyone reached the square, they were surprised to find it was an old horse that was pulling the grapevine! The horse rang “The Bell of Justice” on purpose. Look! He is extremely skinny and famished. It’s obvious that he was not well-taken care of. It is very possible that he has rung the bell to complain against his human companion. He belongs to an old knight living on the hill. The judges asked for the old knight to appear before them. Your horse has asked for justice and he shall have it. When the king heard this, he was very pleased that even animals in his kingdom received justice. The horse lived comfortably and happily thereafter.

The Kind-hearted Young Spirit - Eshiana Coleman (Vegan), Part 1 of 2

Today, we have the good fortune of meeting the bright young lady, Eshiana Coleman, who is a vegan, an animal activist, and holds the title of an Elite Gymnast in the United States. And on multiple occasions, she has spoken strongly on behalf of animal welfare. Do you want to know why she decided to become an animal activist? “Yes, we do.” “I’m here to wake people up because animals have a brain, they have feelings, they want to be loved and they want to play, and it’s not good for the climate or your health at all. And I want to let people know that, so that they can live a really fulfilling life.” What does Eshiana eat at school? How does she keep the vegan diet there? “So sometimes if in the morning I don’t” feel like making my lunch or my parents don’t, I will go to school and just get the salad bar options. But if I want a homemade lunch, I usually just pack a sandwich with veggies, tomatoes, and mustard, and maybe some vegan meat slices. There are a lot of vegan recipes that you find online.” As a high academic achiever in school, Eshiana has maintained an A+ grade point average throughout the school year. She is also into acrobatic gymnastics, where she spends about 15 hours each week in training with USA gymnastics.

"Bee" Caring and Sharing

00:16:24

"Bee" Caring and Sharing

In our bee family, we share what we are good at with one another, because it feels great when we give and receive. We may be tiny compared to the rest of the animal kingdom, but we surely have a big job to do: pollination. We pollinate the flowers of crops and fruit trees so they can bear fruit. Without us, there wouldn’t be any fruits and seeds, the plants wouldn’t be able to reproduce, animals wouldn’t have any food, and many people would go hungry. Because of this decline, harvests have been smaller in recent years, meaning less food for both animals and humans. The good news is that there are ways to help bolster the population of bees. For example, you can grow a garden that’s bee-friendly, right in your own backyard. Plant-based foods are the healthiest for the human body. Best of all, fruit and vegetables have seeds, and each seed can grow into a whole new plant if given the chance. You can share or swap extra seeds with friends and neighbors and enjoy the fruit of one another’s labor later on.

Gentleness is Strength

00:16:48

Gentleness is Strength

Today, I’m going to share with you a story titled “The North Wind and the sun.” “Sun, do you see that traveler wearing a cloak? I propose a contest to resolve our dispute once and for all! The first one to remove the cloak off of his back is the strongest of all!” Despite the strong force of the Wind, the man didn’t take off his cloak, but held on to it even tighter. In the end, the Sun, by offering warmth and comfort, made the man willingly and happily take off his cloak. It’s just like in our lives, sometimes we try to force things to happen and it doesn’t always end well, often distancing us from other people. On the contrary, when we show love and acceptance, people open themselves up to him. Such is the law of “love expands, fear contracts.” With the power of love and understanding, the Korean leaders eventually signed a peace treaty in April, 2018. This proves that the gentle way is actually a form of strength that can produce positive results. Since our story today involves the wind, let’s make a toy that harnesses the wind! How about a pinwheel?

Our Fabulous Solar System, Part 1 of 2

00:14:04

Our Fabulous Solar System, Part 1 of 2

“Did you know our great solar system was formed 4.6 billion years ago from a very large cloud of dust and gas called a nebula?” There are eight planets orbiting the Sun, including Earth. We will introduce them one by one, in the order of their distance to the Sun. Mercury. The first planet from the Sun, is also the smallest planet in the solar system. “Orbiting the Sun in just 88 days, I also have the most elliptical orbit of any planet.” “You would think I’m the hottest planet because I’m closest to the Sun, right? Not quite. Do you know who is?” “Planet Venus is my name, for being the brightest is my fame! I'm also known as the Earth's twin sis. To the Earth, as I am close, you can see me without a telescope! My orbit is most circular.” The next is Venus’s twin sister, Earth. “I am the third rock from the Sun. My atmosphere is totally suitable for life, made of mostly nitrogen and oxygen. It takes me 365 days to make it around the Sun.” Thank you, Earth, for sustaining all life here. You are indeed special. “Hey guys. I am Mars. I am considered the last of the ‘terrestrial planets,’ or those made entirely of rock. My iconic red color comes from rusty rocks and dust. I have two ice caps of frozen water. I even have seasons similar to Earth, because my axis is tilted 25 degrees. It takes me 687 Earth days to make it around the Sun. I have two small moon friends hanging around me, named Phobos and Deimos. What many of you don’t know is that a long time ago, there were humanoids living on my surface, and had developed civilizations. You would call them Martians. In fact, even today some Martians are still living underground here.” Supreme Master Ching Hai once revealed this secret in a conference in Thailand in 2009. “Long ago, Mars and Venus were once a lot like our planet – they had water, life, and people similar to us. But the inhabitants of Mars and Venus destroyed their respective planetary homes because they raised too much livestock, and the gases released triggered an irreversible greenhouse gas effect. Scientists thus called it ‘runaway global warming,’ and say this is what the future of Earth might be like. So let’s not end up like either Mars or Venus, our neighboring planets. Also, once we stop the killing, then we will generate a more loving, kind, and inviting atmosphere for other noble beings in the galaxy to perhaps join us or be in contact with us. That’s right.”

Music - Gift of Heaven

Not only can music change the way we feel, studies have also shown it can improve memory, sleep, verbal intelligence, and keep a healthy brain. Something happens in our brain when we listen to good music. Guess what? Yes, our animal friends respond to music too. Where did music come from? Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai is well known for Her Heaven inspired creations in art, music, and poetry, to name a few. Let’s hear what Master has to share with us about the origin of music and musical instruments. “These sounds are not ordinary sound. Just because, originally there’s no such instruments in this world. After the people who practiced well, they come to Heaven, they listened to the harp and the flute, and all that. The direct teaching from God, which is so melodious. Then they came back here, they tried to make the instrument, which became the musical instruments of our time.” Do you play an instrument? How fun it would be to make musical instruments of our own! “We made shakers. Let us show you how to make one, so you can play too.”

Vegan Actor, Musician and Environmental Activist - Aidan Gallagher

00:12:19

Vegan Actor, Musician and Environmental Activist - Aidan Gallagher

There are so many troubling issues currently plaguing our planet today, such as global pandemics, impacts from climate change, environmental destruction, and animal extinctions. That’s why so many of them are rising up and getting their message out to the world. We are so excited to introduce another such hero, 17-year-old Aidan Gallagher, an American actor, singer, and songwriter. On top of being a brilliant artist, Aidan is at the forefront of championing environmental protection. After researching on his own, he became aware of the environmental and ethical aspects of meat consumption. After joining in with his family on Meatless Mondays, he eventually transitioned to a healthy plant-based diet. On his dietary choice, Aidan tweeted in March 2019, “I was not always Vegan. I started 4 years ago for the environment. As the leading cause of climate change I decided I had to lead by example.” In September 2018, Aidan discussed climate change impacts during the Global Climate Summit, hosted in San Francisco, USA. “I am honored to be here representing our world’s youth, who will be affected the most by climate change. We are all here because we value life, not only human life, but the lives of millions of species with which we share this world.” For our planet and for our animal friends, we hope everyone, young and old, can join Aidan in transitioning to the vegan diet, which is the easiest and the most effective way to make a positive change.

Vegans Are Cool, Part 1

00:13:41

Vegans Are Cool, Part 1

Welcome to “Vegans Are Cool” where we proudly present some of our young Association members and friends from around the world. These multi-talented kids demonstrate what it means to follow a loving vegan lifestyle while pursuing their passions. A vegan lifestyle is one that doesn't involve eating and using animal products. These youth are compassionate, heroic, smart, and cool. They are role models of peace and love. First, we are traveling to meet two young vibrant vegans, Juanita and Angelina, in the beautiful city of Brisbane, Australia. ‟Hi, I'm Juanita and I'm 12 years old. I've been vegan since birth. Yes, her name is Lucky. And she's a dog. She surfs. I noticed when Lucky sleeps with me, I only have good dreams. I don't eat meat because I care for the animals, and they have feelings too.” One of Juanita's hobbies is poetry and she has written this beautiful poem about dolphins. Our next talented guest is from Hong Kong. ‟My name is Oliver. I'm 8 years old. Animals are our friends; we shouldn't hurt them. They are just different from us, like skin colors. For example, horses, they sleep while standing, they are living beings. But some of them won't grow up because people kill and eat them." Just like his mother, Oliver also enjoys practicing yoga and baking vegan cupcakes! Next up, we are meeting up with compassionate 11-year-old Seung-hyeon from Jeonju, Korea. ‟I thought it wasn't right to eat meat after watching a meat processing clip on Supreme Master TV. I don't think my friends know that a meat diet is crueler than we thought. When I eat a lunch box at school, my friends want to eat my lunch box rather than the school lunch, and they say the veggie meat is more delicious.”

The Noble Dog: Running for Love

In 2016 Mr. Dion Leonard entered a 155-mile (250-km), seven-day ultramarathon in the Gobi Desert of China. The race was grueling, so he was surprised on the second day when a small dog began running alongside him. “Throughout the 77 miles (124 km) that she ran of the race, she could have gone off at any stage, but she didn’t. I saw a lot of courage and resilience in her.” What an incredible story of love and devotion! Gobi wouldn’t give up on Dion during the race, and Dion wouldn’t give up on finding Gobi! Dogs really bring a lot of fun and love into our lives. They also teach us about unconditional love. Do you have any good ideas about what we can do to help our loving dog friends? You could try to adopt, not shop! There are many abandoned dogs in no-kill shelters, currently hoping for homes. These beautiful animals will always be grateful that you book them into your life.

Ameliarose - A Vegan Music Star, Part 1 of 2

Today we are meeting Ameliarose, an incredibly talented singer/songwriter who is finding success in the music world, through her soaring voice and beautiful songs. Ameliarose made it to the Top 68 of American Idol’s Hollywood Week of 2019, which is a tremendous accomplishment, especially for someone who was only 16 years old at the time! “Well, the first song I ever wrote Was called ‘Save the Orangutans'. But it was about like saving the environment. And I think that my mom was the one who kind of was like, urging me to kind of be more in the community, in the vegan community. Once I got older, once I was vegan and stuff like that.” Ameliarose, as a vegan, how are you able to use your musical talents to support the vegan movement? “I love performing, for like vegan events and stuff like that. So I’ve played ‘Hudson Valley VegFest,' ‘Kingston Animalia,’ the ‘Can I Live’ festival and I think a couple of others. But I would love to get more active in the vegan music community.” “I just did a project with a friend of mine, about trying to incorporate meatless Mondays at my school. People seem very open to the idea.” We hope you are inspired by Ameliarose’s passion for music, and her efforts to promote the compassionate vegan diet.

Anna and Her Animal Friends

00:13:51

Anna and Her Animal Friends

Today, we have a story about a 6-year-old girl named Anna and an adventure that changed her life. Anna followed the animals to a large fig tree. As everyone held hands, Gloria Rabbit clapped twice and commanded, “The Garden of Eden opens! The Garden of Eden opens!” Lo and behold, an opening appeared at the base of the fig tree. Anna could see a tunnel path beyond it. Multi-colored lights shone brightly as they trekked their way through the tunnel, and out to a beautiful garden covered with giant trees, exotic plants, and wild flowers. A huge rainbow arched across the entire garden, sending out brilliant rays of colors. “So beautiful! This is like Heaven!” As Anna was absorbing all the wonders in this magical place, a carpet flew over her, and hovered in the air. Gloria Rabbit helped Anna aboard. Together, they went for a ride through the entire garden. It was magnificent! Anna saw many things that she had never seen before, such as a bright blue tomato patch, pumpkins bigger than herself, and rainbow-colored radishes. Eventually, they stopped in front of a cozy cabin where a group of animals awaited. “I am Tom Turkey, the best chef in the Garden. Come Anna, I have prepared a nutritious vegan meal. Please join us.” “What’s vegan food?” “Vegan foods are purely plant-based. It’s food that doesn’t contain any meat from animals.” “We are all vegans here, Anna. We don’t eat our friends.” All the animals sat around a big wooden table outside, and enjoyed Tom Turkey’s delicious feast. There were vegan breads, multicolored plant-based jelly, all sorts of nuts, and an herb and fruit salad. Anna’s favorite was the blue tomato juice. “We are delighted to have you here in the Garden of Eden, Anna. Please take care. See you soon!” One moment Anna was in the Garden of Eden, and the next instant she was back sitting by the fig tree. Her mother, Hong, was looking for her. “Anna, where have you been? It’s almost lunch time. Let’s go in.” As soon as they stepped into the kitchen, Anna saw Uncle Tom Turkey tied up on the counter, struggling. “Help, help!” “Please let the turkey go! He’s my friend. His name is Tom, and he is a great vegan cook. Let him go! We don’t need to eat him or other animals.” “Anna! What is the matter with you?” “I don’t want to eat my animal friends. Please don’t ever serve me meat again.” “But if you don’t eat meat, how will you have enough nutrition to grow big and strong?” “I can still grow big and strong. Gloria Rabbit, Tom Turkey, and other animal friends have shown me just how wonderful plant-based foods are. And how can I face my animal friends in the Garden of Eden again if I eat them as food?”

Lunar New Year Fun

00:10:44

Lunar New Year Fun

Today is Lunar New Year, or the Spring Festival, according to the lunar calendar. It’s the biggest holiday for many Asian countries, such as Korea, China, and Âu Lạc, also known as Vietnam. How do people celebrate this big holiday? First of all, it’s common for people to dress in brand new clothes. They often visit family and friends, in order to exchange gifts and well-wishes. For the Chinese people, as well as the Aulacese people, performing a lion dance is an important tradition; as it’s believed that lions bring good fortune, and chases away negative spirits. Would you like to try writing the character “Fu” (good fortune) in Chinese calligraphy? … Apart from writing Spring couplets in calligraphy, you can also try to make special red lanterns for decoration. Food also plays a major role during Lunar New Year. Food brings family and friends, both young and old, together to enjoy not only eating but also enjoying one another’s company. We can make all these amazing dishes vegan, and enjoy them all! My wish is to have more people eat plant-based food, so that all the animals will be happy too.

Smart Youth – Tristan Owain Pang

Tristan Owain Pang is a young prodigy from London, England, who inspires people with his curious mind and kind heart. At age 12, Tristan enrolled in the University of Auckland, New Zealand, being the youngest undergraduate student in the university’s history. Tristan learned to meditate. He realized just how helpful and powerful mindfulness was for his learning and understanding. From that point on, he never missed a day of meditation, which became an important part of his life. This helped him stay focused, and improved his inner nature. Tristan created “Tristan’s Learning Hub” to share awesome and fun animated videos on how to do math equations, along with other interesting subjects. Another awesome program Tristan created is a monthly radio talk show called “Youth Voices with Tristan Pang. He shares inspiring talks, interviews, and stories from a youth perspective. (Supreme Master Ching Hai) “These children, they are born with many talents, including both the artistic and technological, way beyond their tender age. Their faith in the divine gives them a simple but clear sense of life’s purpose. And, not only do they share their creative talents freely with the world, but they also have a lot of inborn virtues. As their nobler selves would only allow them to be so. So, their presence is a blessing; it’s a gift for the continued development of our world, and at the same time, they are an encouraging signal that our planet is on an elevating path.”

The Kind-hearted Young Spirit - Eshiana Coleman (Vegan), Part 2 of 2

I’m curious about how she manages all of these things, and does them so well? “So, with the vegan diet, I usually have like it planned out the day. So, I normally have a schedule that I stick to every day so that it doesn’t get overwhelming. So, with the vegan diet, your recovery time from injuries or muscle soreness takes much less time than if you’re eating animal proteins and an animal-based diet. And also a vegan diet really builds up your strength.” Since gymnastics is a very intense sport, how does Eshiana keep herself calm and focused? Dose she have a secret? “A lot of the time, I can get really overwhelmed and so meditation is a great way for me to chear my head and get into a better head space. One of my favorite things to do if a have extra time is, I love to read, write and draw.” Finally, Eshiana’s dad, Mr. Monk Coleman, would like to share with us something special that Eshiana drew when she was very young. “And I looked at it and I was blown away because she was only six or seven years old when she did this. And it was like a how you should live. It was a roadmap to how you should live, to live a happy, healthy, compassionate life. But this is it right here.”
