The Life of Lord Mahavira: Always Concentrate Inside, Part 3 of 5

The Life of Lord Mahavira: Always Concentrate Inside, Part 3 of 5

Better times were in India when I had not much at all. I saw nothing but wanted to see God. I heard nothing, just wanted to hear God's voice. I was completely blind, deaf, and dumb to the world. That's why I dared to go alone into the Himalayas. Even after somewhat enlightenment, I went around, just went around. And then some people looked at my hand and said I'd become a Buddha in the future soon, soon. For my ideas at that time, you can imagine how I believed such a thing. Because I was told that after initiation into the Guan Yin Method, nobody can read your destiny anymore because you're free, free, the moment of initiation. And whatever makes trouble afterwards, it's just your mind, your mind. Your soul is free. OK, now. We have another problem coming for Lord Mahavira. It's a torture by Kalahasti, another enemy somewhere. Now the Lord Mahavira has left the Chorak village. He went to the outskirts of Kalambuka village, another nearby village. Why does He keep going from one place to another? Anybody know? “He is not supposed to cling to any situation because that environment would drag Him down.” That's right.

The Life of Lord Mahavira: Always Concentrate Inside, Part 2 of 5

Now, let’s go back to India to Lord Mahavira. “He sat under the tree and started His night meditation. Some wayfarers also stopped under this tree. They collected dry wood and started a fire to cook food. Early in the morning they broke camp and went away. The fire was left burning. The wind was blowing in the direction of meditating Mahavira. The fire slowly spread and reached the spot where Mahavira was standing. Gaushalak shouted a warning. But Mahavira had no awareness besides that for His own soul. He was unmoved by the heat of the approaching flames. He was busy quashing the ultimate fire within Himself.” Our greed, anger, and ignorance’s fire inside. He was busy destroying this kind of flame, so He did not hear. He did not hear His friend shouting about the flame outside. He did not feel the heat of the flame outside. “The flame reached Him and scorched His feet. Even this acute pain did not reach the depth of His tranquility. After some time, the fire subsided on its own.”

The Life of Lord Mahavira: Always Concentrate Inside, Part 1 of 5

Let’s read the story of Master Mahavira. And this is another one called “Quashing of the Flames.” “Once, leaving Shravasti, Shraman Vardhaman was going to Haliddug village. On the way he saw a large banyan tree.” Whenever any Master is reborn, Their destiny changes according to the period of human history. They don’t always do the same thing. Somewhere, a long time ago, I read one magazine in America. And they said, “Jesus, He had predicated, He said He will, ‘Come back as a woman and they will not recognize me.’” That’s what He said. Like Quan Yin Bodhisattva, Avalokiteshvara, She reincarnates time after time, life after life. But sometimes She was a wife, just a normal wife, and sometimes, She was somebody else. And in Buddha’s time, She was just a Bodhisattva, no wife, no husband, no children, nothing. You remember one of the stories about Quan Yin Bodhisattva? She was married to a man…

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Afflictions and Rejection of the Divine Help, Part 4 of 4

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Afflictions and Rejection of the Divine Help, Part 4 of 4

There’s another one. This one is a story about the affliction by Shulpani. “Wandering, Mahavira one day, arrived near a small forlorn village on the banks of river Vegvati. The villagers informed Him that the ferocious lance-wielding demon, named Shulpani Yaksha…” He was just standing there, meditating. “A mad elephant appeared…Next appeared a black serpent. He caused extreme pain in the seven delicate spots within Mahavira’s body. Even this extreme agony failed to pierce the serenity of His composure. Drained of all his demonic energy.” “All of a sudden, a divine spiritual Light illuminated his inner Self. Then, the demon was utterly humble and with great humility. Begged Mahavira’s pardon. ‘Shulpani! Anger supplements anger and love begets love. If you do not cause fear, you will become free of all fears always. So, destroy the poison of your anger.’ Mahavira spent His first monsoon-stay at the Asthik-gram.” I don't know if anyone could undergo such asceticism and sacrifice like Lord Mahavira did. This is not the end yet.

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Afflictions and Rejection of the Divine Help, Part 3 of 4

“The cowherd continued beating Him. And Mahavira just bore it all and did not move. ‘Stop it, you ignorant idiot! You are committing a grave crime. This person is no thief. He is the son of King Siddhartha. He is Shraman Mahavira, a great yogi and a meditating ascetic.’ The cowherd fell prostrate at the feet of Mahavira and, begged His Pardon. The divine being who had interfered was none else but the king of gods, Indra.” I think they made a mistake here, right? So, Indra is not a king of gods. Could be that he is also king of all the rain gods. “Disturbed by the inflamed marks on the body of Mahavira, he said, ‘Please allow me to be in Your attendance to provide You protection. ’Mahavira replied in all humility, ‘You should know that an ascetic on the spiritual path reaches the goal of purity with the help of his own practice, courage, and discipline. It is never with the help of the king of gods or the king of demons that a soul sheds all its karmas and becomes an Arhat or gets liberated.’ Full of reverence and praise, the king of gods…”

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Afflictions and Rejection of the Divine Help, Part 2 of 4

So, we will continue now. So, this cowherd was beating Him [Lord Mahavira] relentlessly, but the Master still continued to meditate. Can you do that? Only now, I read them for you, so that you can see some examples of past Saints. At this time, He [Lord Mahavira] wasn't a Saint yet, maybe not yet, not complete yet, but He already practiced selflessness, sacrifice, and endurance. Because I was like you, searching for enlightenment and I thought I could find it in books, in holy scriptures and sutras, or stories of Saints and Sages since time began. But I could not find it. These stories alone will not bring you enlightenment or promise you any liberation. But as already enlightened practitioners like you are, it will serve as a reminder. So that you're more encouraged, more determined to go on your spiritual path unflinchingly. I’m doing a lot more retreat nowadays whenever I can. My job is not only to teach you or entertain you, but my job is inside, for other beings. Not just this planet, other planets as well. You help me by meditating and wishing me success in my inner journey and that's the best you can do.

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Afflictions and Rejection of the Divine Help, Part 1 of 4

So now, we continue with Lord Mahavira, about His practice now. "The day after His renunciation, Mahaviraleft Jnatkhand." "…He stopped under a tree, and, standing rock-still, started His meditation." "After some time, a cowherd arrived there with his oxen." "He approached the meditating Shraman and asked Lord Mahavira, 'Ascetic! Please look after my oxen, while I go into the village to milk cows. I will return soon." "On his return, when the cowherd did not find his oxen…. He searched all around throughout the night in vain. The oxen, in the meantime, returned and lay down near Mahavira. When the exhausted cowherd returned in the morning and beheld this scene…." "Without a second thought he started hitting Mahavira with the rope he carried for tying the oxen…. Even this excruciating pain did not distract Mahavira from His meditation." See that? He just bore everything because He took a vow of equanimity and compassion. I have told you, before I read this story, I don't know if anyone in the history of spiritual practice would endure so much and sacrifice so much like Lord Mahavira. What I mean is anyone, any normal one, a mortal one, apart from the Buddhas and the Saints.

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Great Renunciation, Part 4 of 4

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Great Renunciation, Part 4 of 4

“His heart was filled with equanimity and compassion. His face beamed with a spontaneous smile.” Why does He feel compassion after He has this power? No one would be able to really function well in this world no matter how strong spiritually, if that person continued to open this faculty, psychic power, and hearing all the suffering of the world. “He walked with firm and steady steps towards the jungle without turning around or hesitating.” “And then a wiry and weak Brahman, moving briskly with the help of a stick, ‘Give me something; remove my poverty.’ So He tore it (the divine cloth) into two parts and gave half to the Brahman. After about a year, the remaining piece of the divine cloth fell one day from Mahavir’s shoulder. Som sharma picked it up, got it mended, and sold it to King Nandivardhan for a hundred thousand gold coins.” “Neglecting His body, the venerable ascetic Mahavir meditated just by Himself, in blameless lodgings and wandering.”

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Great Renunciation, Part 3 of 4

Before He renounced His royalty style of life, He went on a fast for two days. That was a ritual to cleanse yourself, purify your soul, body, and mind before you became a monk. Since He was a prince, so all the citizens knew about it, knew about this ritual ceremony. So, in front of thousands of witnesses, He took off all His luxury and ornaments and even His dress. He had only one piece of cloth that was offered to Him by Indra. And then, "the Prince Vardhaman pulled out His hair in five strong fistfuls." I guess, the ritual at that time. "Then the Prince took the vow of ascetic life. 'I take the vow of practicing equanimity all through my life and abandon all intentional sinful activities.' 'In my ascetic life, I will remain equanimous in all conditions and circumstances…. As long as I do not attain omniscience, I will continue to tread the fire paved path of purity with unflinching and firm steps.'" "A wave of reverence started and thousands of heads bowed with reverence." "After the austere vow the Mahashraman, acquired Manahparyav Jnan, which allowed Him to perceive the feelings and thoughts of all beings."

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Great Renunciation, Part 2 of 4

And the Quan Yin Method is the correct way to get enlightenment. I mean the real one, the ultimate one, and the right one. Buddha said that. Don't think I try to convince you. All the Masters said the same thing. If you have time to study, all the scriptures here and there, they mention like that. But only after you practice Quan Yin Method, then you would understand. The more we hear this teaching, inner teaching (inner Heavenly Sound) or our own True Nature, the more we understand many things. The more we will feel free. That's the only way. I don't know if anyone in the history of mankind could have done or could be doing or will be doing such asceticism, such a sacrifice, like the Load Mahavira. That's why I wanted to read it to you. Now, it is "The Great Renunciation." "Prince Vardhaman had observed a ritual fast for two days. A palanquin named Chandraprabh was prepared for His great renunciation." "…Vardhaman got down from the palanquin. Thousands of eyes were staring at the Prince. His golden body was adorned with a beautiful dress and scintillating ornaments. The next moment, He had removed all the ornaments and His dress as well." "The only cover on His body was a piece of cloth resting on His shoulders and provided by Indra." The god Indra, the rain god.

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Great Renunciation, Part 1 of 4

00:30:41

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Great Renunciation, Part 1 of 4

I'm telling you, not every Master has to be an ascetic. So, don't always have this kind of fixed prejudice. Having something and being attached to it is something different. You can have many things, but it doesn't mean you are mundanely bound. So, important is that you have to remember the inside, not the outside appearance or actions, but your inside, your heart, your motivation, your goal. Simplify your life whenever you can, wherever you can. At home, OK? At home, of course, I can simplify my life better. But since I am destined to have some kind of decorated appearance, so I just go with that. And recently, I saw some of the ancient predictions of our planet, and I saw some prediction saying that some Master will come, wearing high heels and stuff, so maybe I'm in fashion. Our body, no matter how it looks, it's just an outside garment. It's not our Real Self. When we hear something, it is our hearing nature, our inborn hearing power that hears it. And then we get used to it. We think it's the ears that are hearing it. And when we see something, it is our seeing nature that sees it. And we keep being used to it, so we think it's our eyes that are seeing things. But we are so used to the outside appearance, as well as so used to thinking, using all these faculties that we think this is "we." That's why the Quan Yin Method teaches you to return to the True Hearers and the True Seers. That is what the Buddha said. "Turn your hearing inward, turn your seeing backward, then you will see the Buddha Nature."

The Life of Lord Mahavira: The Birth of Dharma-Chakravarti , Part 5 of 5

“He begged his younger brother Vardhaman, ‘Don’t become an ascetic monk just yet. Stay with me for another two years.’ Prince Vardhaman had no heart to refuse. So, He accepted His elder brother’s request for two more years. But during this period, He lived like an ascetic. Indulging in spiritual practices with due discipline, He prepared Himself for His impending renunciation.” “Knowing about His resolve for renunciation, gods from the edge of the universe arrived and put forth the formal request. ‘O benefactor of the world! Your resolve is great. Please proceed on the path of renunciation and propagate religion for the welfare of the world.’” “So, Prince Vardhaman [Lord Mahavira]gave charity three hours every day for one year long. Rich or poor, whoever come to Vardhman was awarded whatever he desired. At the end of one year, Vardhaman was ready for renunciation.”

“According to Acharang Sutra, three names of Vardhaman became very famous:Vardhaman – His parents gave him this name; and Samane – Saman or Shraman indicates His natural unblemished intellect. The third name is Mahavir – this indicates His unique bravery, courage, and tolerance. The gods gave Him this name.” My name “Supreme Master” was not given by my parents, also the Heaven’s gave to me. “Detached from all mundane activities and desirous of becoming an ascetic in order to pursue the spiritual goal, Mahavir was keeping the matter pending due to His earlier resolution. ‘As long as my parents are alive, I shall not think of taking Diksha.’” Vows to be a monk, something like that. The parents took their last vows when Mahavir was 28 years of age, and then they died. He told His brother that He wanted to become an ascetic. Not normal monk only, but ascetic monk is harsher, more disciplined, more determined, to get to the goal.

“One day, Shakrendra, while talking in the assembly of gods, stated, ‘There is no person braver, more courageous, and stronger than Prince Varhaman.’ A skeptic god jokingly said that Shakrendra was exaggerating and he proceeded to test Prince Vardhaman.” “The god who had come to test Vardhaman also joined the group in the disguise of a boy. He transformed himself into a giant. With the Prince on his back, the god flew in the sky. But the Prince was undaunted, hit the giant with his mighty fist.” Now, Indra wanted to test Him as well. Now, in the school. “The Brahman asked some complex questions on grammar. The teacher could not reply. Little Vardhaman, without hesitating, gave correct and appropriate answers. The teacher stared dumbfounded at the little boy. The Brahman smiled and said, ‘You are not aware that sun of knowledge of this era is present before your very eyes as Prince Vardhaman. He is the future Lord Mahavir Swami, the omniscient.’” The more determined you are to help humankind or help all beings, the more tests you will have to undergo. And not everyone passes the test. That’s why we don’t have many Masters. Because some tests are very, very severe, above human endurance and intellect and capacity.

He also released her from slavery.” “King Siddhartha called his prime minister and ordered thus, ‘Tell the officer-in-charge of celebrations to organize unique and special birth celebrations. Today announce a general amnesty. Free all the prisoners; write off all the debts; distribute money to the needy; allow 50% subsidy on all purchases from all traders; open centers for distribution of food and clothes to the poor, old, and invalid; and liberate old and sick slaves as well. Thus, let the townsfolk join the celebrations free from misery, hunger and bondage.’” “King Siddhartha addressed the guests, ‘Thus, since the moment this soul has descended, there has been a continued enhancement in our glory, wealth, health, and fame. But, you see, the seer, the fortune teller, told the royalty that, "Maharaj! As such, all the signs and circumstances point at that fact that your son, the benefactor of mankind, will be a Dharma-Chakravarti." Wow! What a Being! Not born yet, and so much praise, so much position, high standard, already predicted about Him. Now it's His birth, coming. They describe His birth. "It was springtime and the nature was in full bloom. The atmosphere was clean and pure. Cool and fragrant breeze infused joy in every particle of the nature. In the soundless quietude of the midnight, the sky was fluorescent with milky moonlight." "At that auspicious moment, mother Trishla gave birth to a divine Child." "The Child was the embodiment of divine Light. As soon as He was born, the world was filled with radiant Light. It appeared as if, to behold this divine Light, even the blind were blessed with eyes." "All the three worlds (Heaven, Earth and hell) were filled with waves of happiness. With the birth of the Child, the whole atmosphere underwent a strange change for quite some time."
