Stories About the Gratitude of Our Animal Friends

Have you noticed that your animal companions express their gratitude to you? If you pay attention, you will find that they say “thank you” every moment they are with you — with wagging tails, smiling eyes, licks, kisses, or by rubbing their bodies against yours. There’s a kangaroo named Abi who was rescued when she lost her mom in the wild at the age of only 5 months. The staff took such good care of her that Abi started giving daily hugs of gratitude to her caregivers.

Vitadacani Onlus: Providing a Safe Haven for All Animals, Part 2 of 2

In 1992, Vitadacani Onlus and several other farm animal sanctuaries united to create the Network of Sanctuaries for Free Animals in Italy. The organization’s purpose is to enhance collaboration and information-sharing between the sanctuaries regarding a common goal - bettering the human-animal relationship. In the Network’s founding charter, the organization’s vision on resident rights is described as follows: *We, the sanctuaries’ residents, have to be as free as possible and allowed to live according to our own nature.

The Curious Lives of Little Blue Penguins

Many people think that penguins only live in cold places, sliding on their bellies across the snow. However, you can find us little penguins in parts of New Zealand and Australia. Our habitats include rocky coasts, dunes, islands, and forests near the sea. But you may also spot us living close to humans in coastal cities. Some shorten the name to "little penguin." In Australia, some people call us "fairy penguins," which i like a lot because it sounds magical!

Hardy Souls: The Scottish Highland Bovines

We are an ancient Celtic breed that belongs to the family bovidae. We originate from Scotland's very rugged Highlands and Outer Hebrides islands, areas with harsh climates that are subject to the very powerful North Atlantic gales. Our double coat enables us to handle extreme weather conditions that other bovines would not be able to handle. We are capable of surviving in the harshest of environments such as areas with rugged hills and moors with a climate featuring extreme cold, heavy rainfall, and poewerful winds. In Scottish Gaelic, we are known as "Bo Ghaidhealach," and in Scots, we are called "Heilan Coo."

The Majestic Swamp Wallaby

The Majestic Swamp Wallaby

My home is Minjerribah, also known as North and South Sradbroke Island, a lovely place surrounded by the clear blue ocean with many bushland areas and featuring salty, sandy soil.Being a sand island, luckliy the ground is soft enough for us to dig holes until we reach the freshwater below the surface. And with the long, lush grass the soil supports, it gives us the opportunity to make hollow nests to lay around in, safely out of sight and shielded from the hot midday sun.Oh yes, we have it pretty good at our little oasis on Minjerribah. In fact, I think they should call us "oasis wallabies," as it seems much more fitting.

World Day for Farmed Animals – All Beings Should Have Equal Rights

World Day for Farmed Animals – All Beings Should Have Equal Rights

October 2nd of every year has been designated"World Day for Farmed Animals." It is not a day to commemorate the happy life of animals on farms, but to call for their rescue. Because on those kinds of farms, animals are sadly exploited for varius purposes. At these animal agriculture sites, the residents are called "livestock" or "poultry," and do not have stringent laws to protect their well-being like dogs and cats.So what exactly does"animal protection"mean? Animals feel pain and have deep emotions. Don't all your animal friends have the right to live in peace and tranquility?

The Collective Intelligence of Animals, Part 2 of 2

When s colony of fire ants is flooded by water, in less than 2 minutes, the worker ants weave a water-repellent and life-saving raft by linking their legs and mouths together to form strong networks. A single ant can connect with up to 20 other individuals! Due to the thghtly knit weave of ants, and the fact their exoskeletons are water-repellent, water cannnot penetrate the raft. The air in their exoskeleton cavities helps them to float. The queen and larvae are positioned in the center of the raft where they stay high and dry.

The Collective Intelligence of Animals, Part 1 of 2

During migration, common starlings may fly at speeds of 60-80 km per hour. Within this densely packed group of birds, the distance between them is sometimes only a bit more than their body length.Despite this tight spacing, they make astonishingly deft turns all together that appear to be conducted entirely in unison. When birds congregate in such big crowds, their collective intelligence makes it easier to discover food, stay on track along migration routes and avoid danger as many eyes and ears are more efficient in assessing potential hazards than an individual could do alone.

Travel to the World of Giant Tortoises

As giants, our size is impressive. For instance, we can be up to 1.8m, or over 5 ft,in length and can weigh up to 400 kg or roughly 900 lbs. We don't stop growing until we're about 45 years old! Scientists believe that gaint tortoises once lived on most of the world's continents. While the Galapagos giant tortoises remain famous for their uniqueness, another species of giant tortoise lives on Aldabra Atoll, the world's second largest coral atoll, in the Indian Ocean.

Magpies: The Happy Birds!

We are a black and white bird taht can be found throughout the world, specifically Europe, Asia, western North America, and portions of northern Africa. For my friends in Australia, you may be familiar with a bird called the Australian magpie. Though we look a bit alike, we actually are not related! We magpies mate for life, and the male and female choose a mesting site together. Once they find a suitable place, they build a domed nest and share in the work.

Aniamls suffer from the same heat-related ailments as humans do and manifest the symptoms sooner than people. Unlijke humans, who diffuse their body heat through sweating, dogs and cats only sweat in the areas of their paw pads and noses which are far less effective in cooling their bodies.
