Three. “That is, collecting one’s thoughts constitutes to the precepts.” Meaning you have to keep the precepts. That’s number one. “And then because from the precepts will come samadhi.” Meaning you’ll be established in tranquility, in the non-reversible, enlightened state of being. That is samadhi. Not just when you sit cross-legged and your soul leaves your body, going to the high Heaven. You concentrate always on the Holy Names, concentration on goodness, virtues. Just remember all that, and you’re just forgetful of every other thing. That’s why the Buddha said collecting thoughts, meaning collecting all of this concentration, one-pointedness is as good as precepts. You keep the precepts, you keep yourself pure, and you continue your path one-pointedly.
