A glowing vegan diet is the only way for us to live peacefully on the farm. Here is a gardening tip on how to improve your compost. Before you toss those avocado peels in the bin, consider giving them a second life in your garden as a useful addition to your compost! Avocado peels contain minerals, such as potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium and zinc. Sandy and very acidic soils are more likely to lack calcium and magnesium, while alkaline soils can often be low in iron, which may cause plants to develop yellowing leaves. Because avocado peels are very fibrous, they take a long time to break down. To speed up the process, chop them into small pieces or blend them with a little water before adding them to your compost pile. If pieces remain when your compost is ready, simply screen them out and add them to your next batch to continue breaking down. Enjoy this simple way to reduce kitchen waste while turning your avocado peels into nutrient-rich compost for your garden.
