We now continue with Dr. Rudolf Steiner’s engaging and detailed elaboration on the path of discipleship. The admired philosopher delivers caring advice on how one can get in touch with one’s higher Self in order to live a more enlightened life of true inner freedom and completeness. “Outward circumstances can only alter the course of his outward life; they can never awaken the spiritual inner man. The student must himself give birth to the new and higher man within him. The higher man becomes the ‘inner Ruler,’ who directs the circumstances of the outer man with sure guidance. As long as the latter has the upper hand, this inner man is enslaved, and cannot therefore develop his powers. If another than myself has the power to make me angry, I am not master of myself, or, to put it better, I have not yet found ‘the Ruler within me.’ I must develop the power within, of letting the impressions of the outer world approach me only in the way in which I myself choose; then only do I really become an occult student. And only by earnestly striving after this power can a student reach the goal.”

In this series we will learn about the effects of the climate change crisis on our oceans, how this affects our world today and what we can do to reverse the damaging impacts. For the past 50 years, the ocean has been absorbing 90% of all the heat generated by global warming. Unfortunately, with the ever-increasing concentration of greenhouse gases, global temperatures have continued to rise, and much of the excess heat is being trapped in the upper levels of the ocean. This is causing the water to become warmer, and to expand, therefore leading to a consistent rise in sea levels. However, the sea level doesn’t only rise due to the expansion of sea water. It also rises as a result of water runoff from the melting of ice sheets and glaciers at both the North and South Poles. The melting of Antarctica’s ice sheet is currently responsible for almost 25% of global sea level rise. If it were to melt completely, it could raise sea levels by as much as 58.3 meters! This is what makes Antarctica the most critical indicator of how quickly our oceans will rise over the coming decades and centuries. However, the effect of this less-than-one-cm increase each year has had a disastrous effect on our world’s low-lying coastal habitats. The esteemed climate scientist, Professor Andrew Shepherd, from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom stated, “As a rule of thumb, for every centimeter rise in global sea level, another 6 million people are exposed to coastal flooding around the planet.”

No matter the species, mothers lovingly feed, zealously protect, and gently discipline their young. Nothing compares to the pure and selfless love of a mum for her babies. In today’s program, we will feature some heart-touching animal mothers’ stories, in honor of all the moms around our world. In mid-January 2020, a koala mum was found by Dr. Miller and firefighters clinging to a burned tree. She was tightly embracing her joey. The mom wouldn’t leave the spot and chose to stay there because her instincts urged her to protect her baby in this manner. The water makes the baby hesitate, and mom waits for him to move forward very understandingly. The park visitors witnessed how gentle the elephant mother was in encouraging the little one. She walked back and forth to reassure her baby, “I am here, It is safe to go.” Many times the mom crossed the stream and calmly waited for her calf to catch up. With his mother’s love and guidance, he managed to reach the other side!

Born in 1861, Dr. Rudolf Steiner was a great Austrian polymath, philosopher and scientist who made influential contributions in the fields of education, science, spirituality and medicine. His writings cover a wide range of subjects, and he published more than 25 books, including "Mysticism at the Dawn of the Modern Age," "The Way of Initiation," and "Intuitive Thinking as a Spiritual Path: The Philosophy of Freedom." He developed and taught an esoteric spiritual philosophy called anthroposophy, based on "the science of the spirit." Today, we will explore selected parts from Dr. Rudolf Steiner's book "The Way of Initiation." The author reveals how by balancing our inner and outer life, one can continue a safer and more promising path in attaining higher knowledge. Further in the chapter "The Path of Discipleship," the importance of taking enough time in tranquility to contemplate on the essence of life's experiences is emphasized. "He does not learn in order that he may accumulate wisdom as his own treasure, but in order that he may put his learning at the service of the world." "Provide for yourself moments of inward calm, and in these moments learn to distinguish between the real and the unreal." "Our aim, in moments of retirement, must be to contemplate and judge our own experiences and actions, as though it were not ourselves but some other person to whom they applied."

Today, we take you on an adventure to subtropical South America to visit one of the wonders of Argentina and Brazil in our program titled “The Astounding Falls of the Iguazu River.” The Iguazu River and its unmistakable cataract falls are the natural territorial boundary between Argentina and Brazil, making it one of the most spectacular international borders in the world. Visited by over a million tourists every year, the Iguazu Falls are ranked as the most popular natural attraction in both countries. In 1934, Iguazu was declared a national park of Argentina, and five years later, Iguaçu National Park was established on the Brazilian side. Approximately 50 years after this, both reserves were listed as World Heritage Sites by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Unfortunately, human activity is taking a toll on the Iguazu region. The Iguazu region is a place of astounding yet fragile beauty, and we sincerely thank all governments, organizations, and individuals working to safeguard the falls of the Iguazu River and the amazing life that surround them.

On today's show, we will share insights from Supreme Master Ching Hai concerning the many ways in which animals benefit our world. “The animals come to this planet with a special role. Many of them are able to bring down divine power from Heaven, or love, just through their presence because they are very connected with the Divine at all times. Some, like horses and rabbits, can protect their human caregivers from negative influences, or boost them with good health, good luck, even material fortune, joy, or spiritual upliftment. They watch out for us quietly and humbly send blessings our way. Some of them are from higher levels of consciousness; they only came down in animals form to help humankind or other beings on Earth. Of course, animals also have very noble, vital roles in the physical realm. The seals have conveyed that it is important for them to be allowed to stay on Earth - not for themselves, but so they can continue doing their job, which is to keep the Earth in balance with love. You see, the seals and the whales emanate an incredible, great power of divine love, an unconditional love that could be likened to that between a mother and her child. They anchor and distribute this wave of love across our planet. The scientists have also proved that if you love the animals, or if you have a pet at home, you would be physically healthier and mentally happier.”

Today, we continue reading from the excerpts of the Gospel of Truth, part of the Nag Hammadi Library. The scripture inspires us with the indescribable security, love and sense of belonging that one’s soul experiences being in a perfect union with one’s Creator, and resting in the Truth. “‘He [Christ] is good. He knows His plantings, because it is He who planted them in His Paradise. Now His Paradise is His place of rest.’ This is the perfection in the thought of the Father, and these are the words of His meditation. Each one of His words is the work of His one will in the revelation of His Word. While they were still depths of His thought, the Word, which was first to come forth, revealed them, along with a mind that speaks the one Word in silent grace. He was called ‘thought,’ since they were in it before being revealed. It came about, then, that He was first to come forth, at the time when the will of Him who willed desired it. And the Will is what the Father rests in, and is pleased with. Nothing happens without Him, nor does anything happen without the will of the Father, but His will is unsearchable.”

Next is a Chinese classical dance. The dance shows the virtues, elegance, warmth, and beauty of the Chinese women. This song of moon gazing with the meaningful, beautiful lyrics, expresses the earnest yearning to go back home, and the disciple’s longing to see the Master. Please give a warm welcome to the demonstration of Chinese formal dresses from Mainland China. “Gazing at the moon, I think of You. Gazing at You, I thank of the moon. Most beautiful in the world is the moon, and more beautiful than the moon is You. The moon is in the sky, I am on the earth, far apart like You and me. The moon rises high but never higher than the sky. You go far away but never beyond my thoughts.” In such a short time, we’ve come to the last performance, a folk song and dance presented by our Aulacese (Vietnamese) Association members. We would like to invite our viewers to enjoy the elegant melody of this Northern Aulacese (Vietnamese) folk song, “The Banyan Tree and the Tea Shop,” performed by our charming Aulacese (Vietnamese) Association members.

The San Francisco Veg Society, which was founded in 1968 and celebrates its 52nd anniversary in 2020. “It’s very important that we get as many people on board with plant-based eating as we possibly can.” With a vision to help make San Francisco THE vegan capital of the West Coast, Christy shares some exciting changes currently taking place in the state of California, which will have an enormous life-saving impact on animals and humans alike. “This year we have had more legislation drafted and passed that protects animals than ever before in California’s history. A huge one that I was so excited about with AB44 that was the Fur Ban. California recently became the first state in the United States of America to ban fur, to ban the sales of new fur. California also recently became the first state to ban bobcat trapping. It’s a good way to kind of get your foot in the door, and start talking about the rights for all animals. Because at the end of the day what we really want to do is make everybody understand that every single being on earth has the right to live their own life.” Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Gratefully presents The San Francisco Veg Society with the Shining World Compassion Award plus US$15,000 loving contribution toward the noble work, with God’s immense love.”
