London’s Waterloo station has become the first major train hub in Britain to use dog-folks on regular patrols with three dog-individuals deployed for a three-month trial. The dog-folks are intended to provide reassurance to passengers and act as a visible security deterrent, although officials say the trial is not linked to any increased threat. The program is part of broader safety measures at the station, including upgraded CCTV [closed-circuit television] and more visible personnel (Good News Network)
Cuba’s worsening economic crisis is putting growing pressure on stray animal-people rescue groups, which are struggling with shortages of water, electricity, food, medicines, and vaccines. Rescue centers and veterinarians say rising prices and fewer donations, partly linked to the drop in tourism, are making it increasingly difficult to feed, treat, and vaccinate animal-individuals in need (Reuters)
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres says more than 8,500 attacks targeted schools, students, and teachers worldwide over the past two years, causing deaths, abductions, and trauma. In a message for the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, observed on September 9, he urged countries and parties involved in conflicts to protect schools, uphold international law, hold perpetrators accountable, and strengthen education systems for vulnerable children (United Nations)
Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has pardoned 852 people serving prison sentences, saying they had shown sincere remorse and a commitment to rehabilitation. A small study finds that limiting eating to an eight-hour daily window may significantly improve blood sugar control in adults at risk for type 2 diabetes. Participants show improved glucose levels, more time in the normal range and fewer fluctuations, regardless of whether they eat from 8 am–4 pm or noon–8 pm. Researchers stress that larger, longer studies are needed (VegNews)
A diphtheria outbreak is overwhelming the children’s ward at Federal Teaching Hospital [Katsina, Nigeria], as suspected and confirmed cases surge. Referrals from across Katsina State cause severe overcrowding, while hospital team members struggle to treat critically ill children. Officials call for stronger coordination among health facilities, government agencies and stakeholders (Channels TV)
A powerful supercell storm battered parts of France, Italy, and Switzerland on August 27–28, bringing winds of up to 90 miles per hour [145 kilometers per hour], heavy rain, and large hailstones. In this two-part series on Adam Tapp’s near-death experience, Canadian paramedic Adam shares how he was electrocuted to death while working on a woodworking project, was dead for around 11 and a half minutes, during which he experienced becoming a single point of awareness and merging into the fabric of the Universe, and was defibrillated twice before being brought back to life. Adam had been a paramedic for many years and found woodworking to be a cathartic, emotionally releasing hobby. On February 28, 2018, he was using a Lichtenberg device — a homemade high-voltage fractal-burning device built using a microwave oven transformer — to etch coral-like patterns into a piece of wood.
I was moving the electrodes one by one, and it just arced into my hand, and it was just this snap from reality. It was almost overwhelming. It was this intense, intense level of absolute pain, like every single cell in my body was being pulled into pieces, and it was overwhelming to a point where I didn’t understand what was happening. It was almost as if everything had shut down. Everything in my vision was these vertical cylinders, sort of this iridescent green that went up and down forever. I remember trying to focus a thought amongst the energy, and I think it was, “I’m being electrocuted,” and then I think I thought, “I’m falling,” and I felt like I was falling for ages.
And then it was just like waking up from a nap someplace that I’d always been. It was this perfect inky blackness. It was almost like deep space where there were lights in the distance, like these twinkling stars to some extent, but it was just this perfect blackness. It was like I was seeing spherically from [a] single point outwards, like I had just become a single point of awareness, and I wasn’t Adam, I wasn’t dead, I wasn’t anything. I was just perfect, like absolute contentment, and I was just in this space. There was no sense of consistency with anything. It was just simply existing as awareness.
And then I felt sort of this frequency start washing over me, and it was like wo wo wo. It was like these fractal patterns, and it was like gasoline on water, this rainbow effect. It was iridescent to some extent, and it was just this juxtaposition of thoughts and feelings and emotions. And I felt myself sort of being pulled into pieces and deposited into everything. It was basically becoming [the] fabric of the Universe, and it was absolutely perfect. There was no fear. There was nothing. This was just the natural progression of what every single one of us is going to do, which is [go] back to the source, back to this infinite consciousness or infinite complexity.
And then all of a sudden, I started being electrocuted again. And at the time, I didn’t understand what was happening, but in hindsight, it was me being defibrillated. I was defibrillated twice. I was in a [ventricular] fibrillation arrhythmia, which is basically the heart spasming. And so, I was defibrillated, and the defibrillation takes 0.5 seconds, but this was like minutes, if I can even say that, of being electrocuted again. And then, all of a sudden, it stopped, and now I’m aware that I’m Adam, that I’m dead, that I’ve been electrocuted, and now I’m in this void, ##I’m just a being. A second defibrillation followed. As the experience continued, Adam began to become aware of the physical injuries he had suffered.
And I remember myself being pulled perhaps out, or some variation of that, and then I think I maybe at one point, acknowledge the smell of burnt flesh, which would have been my hands. My finger was burned off, and I had third-degree burns all over this hand. Adam spent about eight hours in a coma, while those around him feared he was brain dead. When he woke, he was stunned to learn only about eight hours had passed.
And I remember waking up in the ICU [intensive care unit] when I was intubated, [with a] tube [in] my lungs. And I had an intraosseous [directly into the bone] needle drilled into my shoulder bone. My first thought was, “How long has it been?” I remember sort of being able to write something down. My hands were all bandaged, and they said it [had been] like eight hours or something, and it blew my mind. If someone had told me it had been five years or a decade, I would have been completely on [board] with that.
In Part 2, Adam describes the unsettling experience of returning to his physical body after experiencing himself as pure awareness. And I felt so deeply that I just got downgraded from this great supercomputer to this Commodore 2000 [old computer], this pixelated screen. And that stuck with me for a long time. Join us tomorrow for Part 2 of this two-part series on Adam Tapp’s near-death experience. (The Other Side NDE)
