What truly propelled Patriarch Minh Đăng Quang’s movement to popularity, beyond the deep admiration people held for the monks and nuns who embraced such austere discipline, was His groundbreaking effort to make the Buddhist scriptures accessible. Recognizing that the traditional Sino-Aulacese (Vietnamese) translations were often obscure or unintelligible to ordinary people, He rendered the sutras into clear, memorable, and often poetic verses in the vernacular language. This innovation enabled lay followers, many of whom were uneducated, to understand the sutras and find them meaningful and comprehensible.

However, this democratization of scripture drew sharp criticism from the Mahāyāna Buddhist establishment, who viewed His reinterpretation of long-established texts as a deviation from traditional orthodoxy. Master Minh Đăng Quang dedicated Himself to guiding and nurturing two core monastic communities, one for monks and one for nuns, grounded in strong moral discipline and a solid understanding of the Buddha’s true Dharma.

In early 1948, His Holiness Master Minh Đăng Quang departed from Phú Mỹ and led His first pilgrimage with more than 20 monastics, heading toward the regions of Gia Định and Chợ Lớn. From that point on, the Venerated founder of the Aulacese Mendicant Buddhist tradition walked from village to village, and province to province, to steadily expand the reach of His teachings.

He envisioned a world of peace and virtue here on Earth, encouraging all people to build a harmonious and joyful life together, a kind of Heaven in this very world, through simple, accessible steps: “Each person must be literate Each person must remember the precepts Each person must avoid evil Each person must study the Dharma and do good”

Our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) mentioned that Master Minh Đăng Quang was a Holy person Who selflessly sacrificed for others all the time.

“Any more famous people will always be in danger. They will always be in a vulnerable and dangerous situation. There’s no doubt. You check both Master Huỳnh Phú Sổ and Master Minh Đăng Quang. Minh Đăng Quang was a monk. He just lived very simply. All He did was that people invited Him somewhere, and then He went there to talk to them. Or He went out for alms so that He had a chance to meet people and advise them to be good, to follow the Buddha’s teachings so they won’t have to go to hell. And still, there were people who were jealous of Them and murdered Them. They didn’t die just normally. No. They didn’t just die like that. They were murdered.”
