Guru Padmasambhava is known for leaving behind “termas,” or “hidden treasures,” so later generations could rediscover His Teachings and find the Truth.
In the last episode, we learned about the fascinating life and prophecies of Guru Padmasambhava (vegetarian), founder of the Nyingma School of Buddhism, the first major Buddhist school in Tibet.
Based on a study by Geshe Thubten Soepa (vegetarian), a Buddhist teacher, scholar, and writer, Guru Padmasambhava taught people to avoid eating meat and drinking alcohol when he was in Tibet.
“In the early Buddhist monasteries of the 9th century, there arrived seven new monks, their Teachers Shantarachita and Guru Padmasambhava, who taught new Buddhists not to eat meat, but the Tibetans ate meat because it was the ancient tradition – a habit, and offerings were made of flesh and blood. Then Shantarachita and Padmasambhava said that if they kept eating meat and making offerings of blood, They would not teach and would return to India. The Tibetan King Trisong Detsen apologized to Shantarachita and Padmasambhava, and promised a new law. He then made a pillar on which He wrote the law so that monks and nuns would not eat negative or black foods, such as meat or alcohol. Monks and nuns that remained in the monasteries could not eat meat.”
According to the 17th century master and scholar of Tibetan Buddhism, Tsele Natsok Rangdröl, the birth of Guru Padmasambhava was prophesied by the Worshipped Shakyamuni Buddha (vegan) before entering His Nirvana. In The Nirvana Sutra, it’s recorded that the Buddha proclaimed:
“Twelve years after I pass to nirvana, A person who is superior to everyone Will appear from the anther of a lotus flower In the immaculate Lake Kosha On the northeastern border of the country of Uddiyana.”
In the “Sutra of Inconceivable Secrets,” it’s written that Buddha mentioned:
“A manifestation of the Buddhas of the three times, With marvelous deeds in this Good Aeon, Will appear as a Vidyadhara (Knowledge-holder) In the center of a wondrous lotus flower.”
Thus, it has been speculated that Guru Padmasambhava was the reincarnation of Shakyamuni Buddha, and some call Him the “Second Buddha.”
Shakyamuni Buddha’s prophecies appear to imply that Guru Padmasambhava is connected to the lotus flower in a mysterious way. In some of Her lectures, our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) has revealed the spiritual symbolism of the lotus flower.
“According to some myths, the lotus flower was stolen from the superior realms and brought down to here; our world did not have such a flower in the beginning. Such stories may not be fabricated, for the lotus is very extraordinary. That’s why pictures of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas always show them descending to Earth on lotus flowers. It’s because the lotus represents the very pure and clean realm.
My main point is to tell you that there are many lotuses, and the lotuses are also within us. There’s also a lotus here. This lotus has eight petals, and this can only be seen with the Wisdom Eye. […]
This eight-petaled lotus contains a Mani Pearl. If it blooms, the Mani Pearl will appear, or the Buddha Eye or the Wisdom Eye will open. It’s just like a flower. Blooming is the opening of the Wisdom Eye. […]
You all know that there’s a sacred mantra in Buddhism called ‘Om Mani Padma Hum.’ Do you know what it means? What does it mean? It means the Mani Pearl is within the lotus. That’s what it means. Mani is the Mani Pearl, and Padma is the lotus. So in Tibet, we have Guru Padmasambhava, Padma Sambagwa. Padma is the lotus. Padma Sambagwa, Guru ‘Lotus-born.’ So, Om Mani Padma Hum means the Mani Pearl is within the lotus. This doesn’t mean we only receive inspiration by chanting ‘Om Mani Padma Hum.’ We should understand this sacred meaning. Ancient Zen Masters, ancient Masters, would tell Their students not to forget that the Pearl is within the Lotus. They should practice this method every day. Practice within this Pearl, practice within this Lotus.”
Many of Supreme Master Ching Hai’s artistic designs are inspired by the lotus flower.

“In the summer of 2019, I traveled around Larung Gar Buddhist Academy in Ganzi of Sichuan province, Zhurishen Mountain, and the highland glacier of Mount Gongga. During that time, I wore the S.M. Celestial Jewelry ‘The Middle Way.’ I gave ‘The Middle Way’ another name: ‘The Key to Antakala.’
While meditating in the lighthouse located on the hilltop of Larung Gar Buddhist Academy, I had an inner vision of a miraculous snow lotus mountain slowly moving toward me from afar. ‘The Key to Antakala – The Middle Way’ suddenly flew toward the center of the holy snow lotus-like mountain, which then instantly bloomed in full and emitted dazzling light of all colors along with gusts of fragrance! The Terma gate opened itself unexpectedly, and Maitreya Buddha manifested in the sky and became one with Master’s light body. Countless Buddhas and Bodhisattvas appeared to congratulate and celebrate together. […]
In the mountain beside the Linglong temple, the cave where the Venerated Lord Padmasambhava and Venerated Milarepa practiced spiritually has been preserved. There, those with affinity can still hear the sounds of music, sutras being recited, and Heavenly drums.
While we were standing in the Linglong temple facing the valley, there appeared 13 gates of different shapes and forms. The Terma gate and the Terma treasures unexpectedly showed up one by one. I watched them with full attention: ‘The Paramhansa,’ ‘Seeing with the Soul,’ ‘The House Of The Master,’ ‘United,’ ‘Tzoang Tzu’s Dream,’ ‘Ever Spring,’ ‘Awakening,’ and so on. These are all S.M. Celestial Jewelry that Master designed! These pieces of S.M. Celestial Jewelry were floating in the air and kept rotating at different angles and changing forms to show their beauty on another level. I just couldn’t take my eyes off them.
The Terma treasures allow people to directly reach the Pure Land while still in the physical body, and enable people in the fields of science, etc., to witness the mystery of Heaven in reality! […]”
At a gathering with our Association members in 2013, our Most Precious Supreme Master Ching Hai hinted that Guru Padmasambhava has indeed returned to our time.
“There is a temple called Sunshine Monastery. Over there, they know… I am reading this. ‘They worship Master Padmasambhava.’ Master Padmasambhava. You all know Him, right? He is very famous in Tibet. He was born from a lotus flower.
Someone said He was one of my past lives. It’s what I heard. It’s been a long time. I don’t remember. ‘They worship Padmasambhava. Later their temple was burned and destroyed. Now they are rebuilding it. The abbot is very young. Don’t know from where he obtained materials about Master’s lectures and teachings. Three years ago, he asked all of the 200 monks to be vegetarian.’ (Wow!) You know not all of the Tibetan monks are vegetarian.”
Just like Guru Padmasambhava, in this life, our Most Powerful Supreme Master Ching Hai also taught people to stop eating animal-people meat. She has the power to subdue demons and ghosts, so that they are unable to disturb the human world. Master shared this information with us on several occasions.
“The good news is that recently we have been winning in the battle against the demonic force, the Mara gangs, and that makes me feel better in many different ways. Thank You to God Almighty’s Grace, the One and Only, the Greatest beyond the greatest, beyond all greatest.
I have not enough words ever to praise God Almighty. And, of course, we thank all Hiers Workers in the mission of God that God has ordered Them to, whether or not They know or not know. That is the good news. And you can see that the demons, the ones who work for the demonic force, are forced off cover or/and being exposed for the world people to drive them out or at least to avoid their dark influence!
Not the zealous demons’ force, because His Majesty the King of Zealous Demons is already out with us. And His Majesty the King of the Zealous Ghosts also.”
Master also revealed that as the King of Kings of Kings of Kings, She has the Divine Authority over the rulers of different realms, defending the defenseless.
“We have so many kings in the universes, and I don’t have enough time to write it all down for you. Besides, I don’t think it’s very necessary. Most of these kings, they are benevolent, and they have absolute respect and love for me, because I am the King of Kings of Kings of Kings. And also because I am the King of Dharma Turning Wheel, thus I also have power to eliminate some of them (worlds) when they make trouble and disturb other worlds around them, especially when they disturb this world, because this world has less defenses, is more helpless, even though the people, the beings in this world have so much power, so much, so much power.”
What kind of magic power did Supreme Master Ching Hai use to defeat the King of zealous demons and the King of zealous ghosts?
“These people I helped, the patients who were helpless in their beds or just sitting on the chair, who I just helped to cover with a blanket or tuck him or her in because he/she couldn’t do it himself or herself, or helped her to find her handbag that she lost – little did I know that they are the King of zealous demons’ retinue or relatives and friends in human form.
So, of course, they reported that to the King of the zealous demons. And He was very touched. And He said that I’m really genuine and very loving and kind. And slowly, bit by bit, with all this information reported to Him, He decided that He’d just quit working in the direction that is against my wish, against my will.
So He just removed Himself with His citizens altogether and went to the African mountains where no humans will ever set foot because it’s so remote and so impossible to access. […]
It’s better now since the zealous demons’ King took up His new kingdom in the African mountains, and since the King of zealous ghosts also decided to lead a more virtuous, noble and spiritual life.”
It turns out one of the most powerful forms of magic for defeating demons and ghosts is showing genuine kindness, even for apparently small things in life.
As we move closer to the year 2030, when World War III could break out, as forewarned by Guru Padmasambhava in His prophecy “An Encouragement to Avert the Hindrances of Dark Times in the Year of the Iron Dog,” we’re advised by the Tibetan lamas to take action now in order to stop it from happening. Now each one of us can make use of this effective means to avert the hindrances – showing love to all beings in daily life, including being vegan.
We express our profound gratitude to our Most Compassionate Supreme Master Ching Hai, the return of Guru Padmasambhava, for continuing Her sacred Mission of transforming this world into a pure, serene paradise, just like the blooming lotus flower in Heaven.
